Teaching approach: The Natural Approach and the PPP method. The students are expected to
interactwith the teacher and peers in a natural way.
Integrating skills: Listeningand Speaking whilelisteningto a story and interactingwith the teacher
and partners.
Materials and resources: The book “The Old House”- Derek Strange; Oxford University Press;1998.
Poster of a town, poster of one of the pages in the book, flashcardsof places in thetown and
photocopies with a sketch of a map.
Pedagogical use of ICT in class: In this classtherewill not be use of ICT duringthe lesson. This tool
will beincluded in some of the followinglessonsas I have to ask permission for doingit. There is
only one television in all theschool.
Seating arrangements: The students seat at tables in groups. There are six tables in the room and
so there aresix students in each table and the board is in frontof them. Students are expected to
get together in groups in every activity.
3. Cooperative work: Students will work in a cooperative way while they ask and answer questions
with a partner.
Possible problems/difficulties and their solutions during the class: It is possiblethatsome of the
students feel shy to ask and answer questions with their partners. If his happens I will sitnext to
them and encourage them in order to make them feel more confident. If any student uses L1 during
the interaction I will encouragehim/her to use L2 by modellingthe question or the answer and
usingthe technique of repetition.
Potential problems students may have with the language: Students may not remember some
words connected with places in town, in this caseI will elicitthe word from their partners by
pointingto the pictures on the board. Another possibility is askingYes/No questions whilepointing
to the pictures on the board:“Is it a church or a market?”
Assessment: I will assesslearners’comprehension and understandingthrough their oral
interactions, and their participation and development duringthe activities.
Routine : 5´
Purpose: to greet students and get them into a positive mood to start the lesson.
I will come into the classroomand greet the students “Hello!” EA: “Hello!” Then I will ask for a volunteer to
write the date on the board. I will givehim/her a piece of chalk and I will ask thewhole class:
T: What day is today?
Ss: Monday/It´s Monday/ Today is Monday.
T: That´s right.Today is Monday. Is itMonday the 13th or the 14th of July?
Ss: 13th of July.
T: Well done, kids!Today is Monday the 14th of July.
As this lesson is on the second period on Monday students have already written the date in L1 with their
teacher so they will surely knowwhat day itis.
I will tell the students that I will teach them a song to start our lessons:
Start the Day With a Smile
This is the way we start the day
Start the day, startthe day,
This is the way we start the day,
So early in the morning.
Firstwe smileand shakea hand,
Shake a hand,shake a hand,
Firstwe smileand shakea hand,
So early in the morning.
Then we sitdown quietly,
Quietly, quietly,
Then we sitdown quietly,
So early in the morning.
4. We listen very carefully,
Carefully,carefully,
We listen very carefully,
So early in the morning.
