2. Images used:
The first image used Is the poster for the film. From positioning this at the top left of the poster it will draw in a specific target
audience in which will be suited towards the film. The use of the close up shot of the man represents a comedic feature this
can be seen by the facial and body expression. The use of the hand placed on the tie shows and the positioning of the knife
combined with the facial expression which looks smug juxtaposes with the knife which could imply that something is not going
quite right within the work he is in. The use of the black background accentuates the use of the blue shirt. Drawing the eye to
the character making the audience assume he is the main character. Juxtaposition is also created between the white and black
colours which enhance an idea that there is going to be a drama involved. Throughout the review screenshots from the film
are used this heightens the review and can draw the audience in. All 3 pictures are focused on the main character in which
enhances the storyline. The use of the positioning of the knife picture enhances what the review is talking about ‘ so how's it
play’ this linking with the picture can heighten the fact that there is something mysterious going on. The use of editing
enhances this by filtering the picture into grey scale .The use of the low key lighting can suggest the unknown in which can be
linked further within the film review when implying the story line is hard to follow.
Layout: The film review is structured in a easy format in which it gives subheadings which are used to introduce what is going to be
spoken about for example the use of ‘three man crew’ implies that there is going to be information about the characters and the plot line.
This makes the film review easy to read. The use of the pictures at the side help to reinforce the ideas created and give an insight to
certain shots used within the film. The way the review is structured makes it pleasing to the eye and draws the audience in as it is not
blocks of text.
Technical jargon is used. The use of the technical jargon can relate to
a specific audience in which could be interested in the film but
Interested in the film review relating to the niche target audience.
The use of the technical jargon language portrays the film in a
positive way showing the sound quality to be good. Technical jargon
is used throughout the film review and is done in order to attract a
certain audience in which may view the film review. However the use
of technical jargon is not over powering and other audiences will be
able to understand this engages other audiences which may be

A semantic field is used linking the review back to the comedic genre. This is shown by the words ‘laughs sputter’.
This is a common outcome within a comedy film , showing the audience that it is successful . The use of the word
muddy can imply that something is unclear or not nice. This can be further heightened by the text ’if were
supposed to be laughing or taking it seriously’. This can be heightened further by the use of the poster at the
beginning, the background image used such as the black background and the knife behind him draws the
attention to his smug face. This gives a mixed message to the audience as the use of the background implies that
something serious is going on whereas the comedic impression comes from his facial expression.
Discourse features are used within the text this is used throughout the text but especially towards the end within
the review, The use of scoring each section at the end forms a structured review. It also leaves the audience
thinking about the good and bad points within the film. Anaphoric language is used to refer back to what's been
said and reference to the characters and plot within the scene.
The heading relates to the fact that there is a confusion between the genres this is implied
with the words thin line. Showing that the genre is not easily distinguishable. Vulgarism is
used to show how the character is portrayed this is shown by the words ’arrogant four letter
word’ this enhances the fact that there is a clash from the beginning of the two characters.
This is further heightened by the words ‘a cold slice of reality pie’ This reinforces the idea
that he is living in a different view to everyone else. The word cold implies that he is narrow
minded on the world and this implies that something has drastically hit him which can be
seen by the word ’reality pie’.
Overall- The film review is structured in a pleasing way for the audience to read, the language used is appropriate for the target
audience. The use of the language features used heighten the fact that the film is based round two genres and links well to the poster
creating a continuity within the review.
