How effective is the combination of
your main product and ancillary texts?

2. How they all link
• As you can see in all 3 of our projects we have
decided to show the killers face, this was in
order to make it clear of the horror genre.
These have all been used for different purposes
and therefore the shots differ from one another
for example within the magazine cover the shot
is a lot clearer with the use of brighter colours
and therefore draws more focus towards the
magazine. Whilst within the film poster the
picture is distorted and dark to make the genre
of the film clear and it gives the image a
professional look. Within the film trailer you
see the killer but it Is in flashes in the dark
which was in order to create suspense and
again reflect the genre of the film.

3. Title design
• We also decided to use the title
design within both the poster
and at the end of our trailer. This
was in order to make it clear of
the name of our film as by
seeing it in these places you are
more likely to focus in on it. We
chose not to use the title within
our film magazine because after
doing an evaluation of other
existing magazines we noticed
that it was uncommon to have
the title within a magazine. We
did however decide to keep the
red themed writing as it
symbolises that the genre is
horror.

4. Yet another similarity
• We had also chosen to show the
axe in both the trailer and film
poster, this was in order to show its
significance as it was the killers
primary weapon. For the axe drag
scene we have used a close up shot
and this is the closest you see the
killer from, within the trailer this
was again in order to highlight the
significance of the axe and it also
makes the genre clear. The axe
within the film poster, like the
killers face, is distorted and you can
only see the outline of the head of
the axe. This gave it a more
professional look and therefore
looks more interesting to those who
view it.

5. Summary
• Overall I believe that the combination of our
main product and ancillary texts has proved to
be effective as they all complement each
other in various different ways. Furthermore
they are all suited to one another and link to
our overall genre of horror giving it an overall
clear theme.
