2. The only picture and first thing we see of the short film review is the film poster, in which helps to
give the audience an idea on what this is going to be about. The image used is simple and can
seem uninteresting. However the use of the high key lighting can be used to show the innocent
lives of illnesses. This is further heightened by the use of the red bold text which contrasts with
the lighter background in which draws the eye to the word .The use of the red can emphasise the
idea of danger and death within hospitals. The use of the long shot can show the loneliness within
the hospital atmosphere. The slogan underneath the title gives the audience an idea or creates a
twist within what the film could be based around. The words ‘ faking it ‘ implies that there is some
complication within the story line. The poster title suits the drama genre as it is something
everyone experiences this is further heightened later on within the review. The idea of a false
diagnosis or incorrect symptoms is seen by the use of the black writing as it connotes a danger in
which is emphasised by the red text. The use of the smaller slogan writing can also imply the idea
that it is hidden.
The layout: The film review is structured well in which helps the reader understand what the film is about from reading the review
straight away. By using the poster picture it draws the audience into what the film is going to be about. The review is set off with
explaining what the film is about. The word symptom is used in order to connect the audience to the film and engage there attention
this is completed by using examples of different symptoms in which links to the drama genre as it focuses on creating an audience by
engaging them to read on by creating something they have experienced before.
The review is paragraphed in order to introduce good sections within the film, including introducing the film and the main characters.
This is then followed on by media terminology using technical jargon which can relate specifically to people interested within the
filming industry.
The review is structured cleverly in which it begins and ends talking about the symptoms, this rounds the review up nicely and creates
a seamless read. It also rounds off the review nicely and helps the audience to come to a closure.
Overall I feel the layout of the review could have been more detailed in which it would have explained good sections within the film or
bad sections to give the audience a larger insight into the film by covering more areas to talk about rather than just acting and sound.
I also feel the review could have had ratings as the audience can easily see what was good and bad within the film heightening there
knowledge.
The opening paragraph relates to the drama genre as it helps create the realisation
of being nervous In which everyone has experienced . This can give the audience an
idea into what the film is going to be about as this can further link to mental health.
Grammatical features have been used in order to emphasise this including a list of
three,’ pacing heart, palpable tension, sweaty hands’ this creates an uneasy
atmosphere for the audience in which they can all relate to at some point of there
lives. The complex sentence is used in order to extrapolate the audiences feelings in
order to make them feel uneasy as they can relate to a time they felt like this.
The first character introduced Is the main character, this
reveals what the slogan is suggesting which has been seen
further up in the poster. This is heighted by the words ‘all
his patients are actors’ this is further related to the
‘entering an exam hall’ which is seen in the opening
sentence making it clear for the audience.
Technical jargon is used in order to attract a certain
type of audience, this is seen by the terminology,
slow pans, in which will intrigue the specific target
audience. The review also shows that this helps
create a natural setting in which is common in the
drama genre as the genre tries to mimic problems
that people feel in order to engage them.
This shows that it suits the drama genre well as it is conforming to the
main stereotype of the drama genre by connecting the audience and
making them feel part of the film. Showing the film as being successful.
3. The words ’shine through’ suggests that the acting within the film
is good. As the word shine relates to a positive effect. This also
implies to the audience that the acting makes the performance
which is seen by the word through, showing that the acting is
noticeable within the film. Which puts the film in a positive light.
A short sentence is used in order to
emphasise the effect that the si-
lence has by creating a pause in which
is used to compliment the word silence.
The short sentence makes it blunt and
sharp in which juxtaposes to what the
audience would be expecting . By using
the short sentence it also emphasises
the word silence which relates back to
the idea of being tested which implies
a tension which the audience can relate
to, as they have all experienced a test
at some point. This can also link to the
drama genre as the main purpose is to
make people emphasises with the film.
Technical language is used in which can help to show the audience how well
certain categories have done within the film. Also by using technical language
features and describing it as silent helps to emphasises the tense , worried
atmosphere in which the character would be feeling.
This shows that the drama genre is doing its job within this film. This can be
reassuring for audiences that like to watch drama films. This is further emphasised
by the words ‘ what we all find to be the most comforting’. Showing that the film
focuses on the audiences needs and issues in order to make a successful film in
which can be seen by this review.
Overall the film review shows that the film has been successful within its genre and meets one of the key conventions
within a drama film which is to gain a connection with the audience. However I feel in order for the review to be more
successful it should have offered a rating as this is easy for the audience to understand.
