Teen Trailers
Within teen trailers, the codes and conventions that are portrayed will differ slightly in order to appeal to the specific
demographic, which is teenagers. For instance, one common convention, generally throughout all teen trailers is the
majority of characters, including the main protagonist, will be teenagers.
The predominant use of teenagers is a crucial aspect as the target audience will more likely be able to relate and engage
with the film, as these are the characters the audience can relate to based on similar life situations.
The clothing within teen trailers tend to be more casual fitting according to teenagers everyday clothes. E.g. teenagers
around the ages of 13 – 19 are more likely to wear clothes such as T-shirts, Jeans, Hoodies, Tracksuits etc.
In addition, it is often found that characters within teen trailers will wear certain clothing so that their character can be
depicted to fit into a particular stereotype group, enabling the audience to gain an insight on the characters.
Moreover, the setting throughout most teen trailers will often be set in places where teenagers spend most of their time,
such as school, parks, house and sometimes with the occasional party/ social event. This means that the teenaged
demographic will be able to identify those settings, making the trailer seem more relevant and applicable to them.
Like any other trailer, teen trailers will also have an age rating certificate, where teen trailers are usually certificated 12,
12A, 15, 18. This shows the content found within the trailer may vary. Age ratings enable films to attract their target
audience depending on the age and situation they are in.
The narrative that is exemplified throughout the trailer may vary from either a multi-strand narrative or a single strand
narrative. The narrative is conventionally based on relatable topics that will be applicable to teenagers, for example
teenaged pregnancies, knife crime, exposure to drugs and alcohol are common things many teenagers will face.
Themes depicted throughout teen trailers are a crucial as they will be ones that related to teens, examples such as love,
crime, relationships, conflicts with parents and self – esteem are something most teenagers go through in their life. This
allows the audience to feel comfortable with the film as they may be enticed to watch the film soley due to the facr rgar
they can relate to the characters and or the protagonist.
