young adults but could also attract older generations as well. There are
several sub genres that are common with teenagers these are:
• Musical
• Thriller

• Romance
• Horror
• Comedy
• Sci-fi
3. WHAT IS REPRESENTATION
Representation is the description or portrayal of someone or something in
a particular way.
Representation is based on the following 4 aspects:
• Age
• Gender
• Ethnicity
• Class
4. EXAMPLES OF COMMON REPRESENTATION
In a typical teen drama you will always see a nerd, popular jock, princess &
the outcast.
They are easily spotted through the technical element of mise en scene, for
example the costumes would help the audience identify the typical
binary opposition i.e. the jock and nerd.
The jock will wear
fashionable clothes like
basketball jackets & a
basketball as a prop. Whereas the nerd will be
wearing unfashionable
clothes such as high waisted
trousers with braces &
glasses
5. SOCIAL GROUP IN OUR MOVIE
Our teen movie is aimed at 16+ as it is based around the
concept of drugs. We decided to go with this theme as it is
a subject that many teenagers are interested in and can
relate to .
6. HOW WE PORTRAYED THIS CONCEPT
As our film opening is about college students we used mise en scene to
identify this representation to the audience.
In this shot the camera is
focusing on the books to
establish to the audience
the character is in
education.
In this close up the
student pass also
portray that the
character is a student.
The use of the mobile phone
is a realistic representation of
teenagers today as many
own a smartphone that they
use 24/7.
Also the use of locations help
shows a teenagers lifestyle of
attending college

this.
7. HOW WE PORTRAYED THIS CONCEPT
As you can see that the main
character is sitting by himself
on his phone which shows his
waiting for a important message
that he doesn’t want anyone to
see/find out.
Throughout the opening
scene there’s several
close ups of the drugs
symbolizes the subject
