The document provides details on the planning for a movie trailer titled "Circ le Rouge". It discusses the target audience as ages 12 and up, and both sexes. It also outlines potential distribution channels like MTV and Film4. Details on the genre, plot, actors, funding, and presentation of ideas are given to fully conceptualize the trailer.
2. What is our brief? Our brief is to create a trailer for a movie, we will be researching about and comparing and relating to other movie trailers. We must keep in mind the target audience, the location, the plot etc we need to ensure that we follow the codes and conventions of the typical movie trailers and the actions taken towards them for example billboards, websites, posters, magazine page.
3. Target audience Age: From the ages of 12 and up as the age rate is also 12 Sex: It is targeted to both sexsâ Film tastes: Into drama and adventure, movies that make you think and keep you in suspense Music tastes: Soundtracks, from like Avatar etc (not much music) Social class: Working class and upwards there is no limitation to the types of class that are allowed to watch the film though it might appeal to others more.
4. Where in the media, including WEB 2.o, might the target audience find out about the film? Channel 4, E4, Film 4, MTV and ITV. Because teenagers are most likely to be watching these channels (But on ITV, the trailer will be shown when X-Factor is on because that is the most popular show that applies to teenagers on ITV).
5. Where in the media, including WEB 2.o, might the target audience find out about the film? Channel 4 is the best channel to find movies that are well known or got some good ratings, Film 4 is in the same boat as they are both owned by the same owner. The film will get media on theses channels as they are normally associated with films that are low budgeted or national for example âLet the right one Inâ was also advertised and aired on Film 4. E4 is also the home advertising movies it is mostly known for comedy and adventure, they would be suited to host our film advertisement as one of genre is also a adventure too.
6. Where in the media, including WEB 2.o, might the target audience find out about the film? MTV is also suited for the film that we are creating because they are more suited for the genre and will attract the right audience that we are searching for but mostly teenagers and upwards, teenagers watch this channel and pay more attention to it as much as facebook as it is a music channel / drama channel. ITV is also suited for the film as it is always airing films that did not get as much attention or are seeking for more advertisement and just bringing back their film as it did well.
7. What genre is the film/ trailer? The genre of the trailer is drama, mystery and adventure. There are a lot of films that are in this genre that attract a lot of customers that follow the same genre for examples films like âRed Ridding Hoodâ, âBlack Swanâ, âIncisionâ etc they attract a lot of customers have viewed the movie because of the trailer they viewed and because of the suspense and drama.
8. What are the codes and conventions of your genre? There is always the hero that develops himself whilst going through hardships at some point in the film who is of strong equality; the protagonist, the boy, âEliâ. As normally a woman/girl is viewed as the damsel in distress who needs saving âLeynaâ in this case. Who is rescued by âEliâ the main character hero who finds himself and applies himself to the situation he Is in and takes responsibility in looking after those who are more weaker than him.
9. When would it be exhibited in cinemas and why? This film will be exhibited in cinemas in July and stay there until October times as that is when we are closing into Halloween and the atmosphere when most people go to the cinema. Also, as it is summer holiday the genre and the plot of the film will suit the time of year, as lots of people tend to go either travelling or to a theme park with strange attractions, this will also give the film more of an impact on whoever watch it.
10. Considering technological convergence, what platform(s) is the audience most likely watch the film? The audience would watch the trailer of the film on IMDB or YouTube etc and they will then proceed to watch it in the cinemas, on DVD, the Internet, then finally TV, iPodâs, mobile phones etc.
11. What BBFC age Classification would it be given and why? 12, because some scenes may be frightening for children and the description by the BBFC the rating suits the description of the plot of the trailer. Suitable for 12 years and over Exactly the same criteria are used to classify works at â12Aâ and â12â. These categories are awarded where the material is suitable, in general, only for those aged 12 and over. Works classified at these categories may upset children under 12 or contain material which many parents will find unsuitable for them. The â12Aâ category exists only for cinema films. No one younger than 12 may see a â12Aâ film in a cinema unless accompanied by an adult, and films classified â12Aâ are not recommended for a child below 12. An adult may take a younger child if, in their judgement, the film is suitable for that particular child. In such circumstances, responsibility for allowing a child under 12 to view lies with the accompanying adult.
12. What BBFC age Classification would it be given and why? The â12â category exists only for video works. No one younger than 12 may rent or buy a â12â rated video work. Discrimination Discriminatory language or behaviour must not be endorsed by the work as a whole. Aggressive discriminatory language or behaviour is unlikely to be acceptable unless clearly condemned. Drugs Any misuse of drugs must be infrequent and should not be glamorised or give instructional detail. Horror Moderate physical and psychological threat may be permitted, provided disturbing sequences are not frequent or sustained. Imitable behaviour Dangerous behaviour (for example, hanging, suicide and self-harming) should not dwell on detail which could be copied, or appear pain or harm free. Easily accessible weapons should not be glamorised.
13. What BBFC age Classification would it be given and why? Language Moderate language is allowed. The use of strong language (for example, âfuckâ) must be infrequent. Nudity Nudity is allowed, but in a sexual context must be brief and discreet. Sex Sexual activity may be briefly and discreetly portrayed. Sex references should not go beyond what is suitable for young teenagers. Frequent crude references are unlikely to be acceptable. Theme Mature themes are acceptable, but their treatment must be suitable for young teenagers. Violence Moderate violence is allowed but should not dwell on detail. There should be no emphasis on injuries or blood, but occasional gory moments may be permitted if justified by the context. Sexual violence may only be implied or briefly and discreetly indicated, and must have a strong contextual justification.

Star Theory Definition âA person who has become so famous, both for doing their job (actor, sport player) and appearing in many sorts of media, that their image is instantly recognisable as a sign, with a whole range of meanings or significationsâ We have put use to the star theory to help us gather the famous actors and actresses having these actors/actresses will attract different sorts of audiences, they will elevate our film and the actors/actresses as people will also be used as role models for their audience they will be able to correspondd with children their ages since the film is â12â rated.
15. Given your choice of celebrity, who would be the actors? Jim Broadbent as Mr. Prentiss As he is more experienced with playing the role of a dictator that would very much suite the portray of âMr Prentissâ the ring leader for example âMoulin Rougeâ owner of Moulin Rouge.

Asa Butterfield as Eli Flynn He is more experienced to play roles that challenge him like âThe boy in stripped pyjamasâ , âSon of Ranbowâ , âNanny Mcphee and the Big Bangâ etc there are a lot of role that he has had hat help him discover who he (the character) Eli is, he is very talented in portraying this as he has had a lot of experience.
17. Given your choice of celebrity, who would be the actors? Chloe Mortez as Leyna Creek She is more experienced in working as characters that have been through a lot and want to find friendship within the darkest/dreariest of situations, in this case âLeynaâ will be portrayed very well. She has been featured in films like âKick Assâ, âLet me Inâ etc all roles in which she is with someone then gets separated.
18. Given your choice of celebrity, who would be the actors? Jake T. Austin as Roderick Flynn (the brother of Eli). Jake T. Austin felt like the right choice to make as he has had experience in the little brother filed, he knows what to say and do to little brothers as he has been one in many roles too
19. What legal responsibilities do we have as film makers? The legal responsibilities we are going to take as film makers are: Not copy other peoples ideas in fear of copyright. To have original ideas that has not been done before, that also interest the target audience.
20.
21. Why have you chosen that name and what are the connotations? Circ le rouge âle rougeâ in French meaning âthe redâ Circ in Catalan meaning âcircusâ This all amounts to âThe Red Circusâ Naming the trailer and the film this way attracts a lot of young children as they are in school and learning some language which is mostly French and they will then feel excited and involved and will want to watch the film (if allowed by their guardian). The word âcircâ that is not in french will intrigue them into wanting to know what it means, this will then start a chain reaction of the child pestering the parents into taking them to the cinemas to watch the film. For older audiences it will just be a matter of like for the trailer or interest.
22. What would the overall film be about? Eli is an English boy around the age of 12 with an older sibling called Roderick who always causes him trouble, and it seems his parents do not take him seriously as he is the infant of the family. The two brothers and their parents go to a circus, when the show starts they notice there are a lot of short workers for the Circus. Later, when the show is over and they are leaving ,Eli forgets something (bag or whatever) and gets knocked out by one of the workers. Later Eli realises that nearly all of the workers are children that are all over the news as missing children. Eli befriends Leyna Creek. Afraid, Eli tries to escape, finds that there are others who wants to escape and joins with them.
23. How is your industry/institution structured (what professional roles exist?) The producer Director Crew Film Director (camera man) IT Technician Plot â location, equipment, characters , crew Filming Editing Advertising Distributing
24. How would your film be distributed? Our film can be distributed electronically by sending the movie to the desired location instead of the 35mm movies, this will also save us the money and save time in the realising of the film. Though we will have it sent around in ultra 16mm movie:
25. What is Ultra 16mm? Ultra 16 mm A variation of the Super 16 format is the DIY-crafted "Ultra-16", which is formed by widening the gate of a standard 16Â mm camera to expose the area between the perforations. The placement of the perforations on a standard strip of 16Â mm film (to the left of the division between frames) allows for use of this normally unexposed area. The Ultra-16 format, with frame dimensions of 11.66Â mm by 6.15Â mm, allows for a frame size between those of standard 16Â mm and Super 16 while avoiding the expense of converting a 16Â mm camera to Super 16, the lens requirements of Super 16 cameras, and the image vignetting caused by traditional 16Â mm cameras. Thus, standard 16Â mm optics may be used to achieve a wider image. The image readily converts to NTSC/PAL (1.33 ratio), HDTV (1.78 ratio) and to 35Â mm film (1.85 ratio), using either both the full vertical frame or the full width (intersprocket) frame, depending upon application.
26. Technological Convergence There are many ways in which our film can be converted or viewed for example iPods, iPhones, computers, virtually etc . There are more ways in which our target audience can access the movie/film the most popular way of viewing is online. www
27. How would your film be funded? http://www.ukfilmcouncil.org.uk/whatwefund Because the company is well known so its reliable. And they help to support new small companies which is also ideal. About us The UK Film Council is the Government-backed lead agency for film in the UK ensuring that the economic, cultural and educational aspects of film are effectively represented at home and abroad.
28. Any similar products? (research more in depth for specific tasks) Merchandise such as the video game of the film and action figures would be appropriate and acceptable. This is how some people distribute and take forward their films after the film has succeeded, we will take these actions as they are the appropriate steps to take as the codes and conventions of the film industry.
29. How will you present these ideas on your blog ? The ideas will be presented via blogger, bubbl, mind maps, images, word documents, PowerPoint presentations, note pads, video and sound, all forms that will allow everybody and anybody to be able to tell and get more information on how the film was constructed and the effort and thought that went into the planning and the creation of the film.
