1. How effective is the combination of your main products and
the ancillary texts?
2.
3. I made all three products in black and white. I began by
only making the video black and white to help with an
active and engaged audience, so that they are not
distracted by a colour in the background. From research
and feedback I received in class, I concluded that all
three of my products should be in black and white too to
help with the continuity of the products. I also think
that having them in black and white has created a very
clean and precise image. It also adds to the ominous
nature of the narrative.
4. They represent the narrative of my of my music video. In my
digipak, I use an image on the front cover that will only truly makes
sense if you have watched the music video. It shows a girl being
given a piggy back by a boy, which is a convention of them being in
a relationship - this is how it will look to anyone who has not seen
the video. To the people who have seen the music video, they will
understand the narrative behind the photograph, which is he has
chloroformed her, and carrying her around as if they are a normal
couple. Also in my magazine advert poster, my image represents
the narrative of my music video by incorporating many of the
objects that were in my music video. Most of these objects are key
enigma codes and visual motifs that connote certain things
throughout the video. For example, the empty bottle of alcohol
suggests the fact that there is drinking in the video, the picture of
the boy and girl hugging in the foreground of the photograph,
suggests that there is a relationship aspect of video and it is a key
part of the narrative, and many other codes.
5. I also used the same actors in my music video and my
digipak (no face is shown in my poster). This is so that
all of my products are easily recognisable as being from
the same artist. This is a convention I have applied from
Andrew Goodwin who said that music videos use a Star
Image and so I have used this across the music video and
the digipak.
It would get confusing if they all had different people on
- it would not look like it belonged.
6. At first glace at these
screenshots, you would think
they are a sweet couple. He is
caring and protecting his
girlfriend.
However, once you have seen
the full video, you understand
there is a much deeper and
creepy depth to them. He loves
her too much that he cannot let
go of her. This is carried across
my ancillary tasks too.
7. I took photographs of
the actors during the
mist walking shots like
on the last slide and used
that as the front cover.
Again, it looks like there
is nothing wrong with it
until you look closely
and/ or seen the video.
This is the same as the
back picture, some
people do not notice that
she is in front of him,
but after looking closely
you can.
8. The image used in my magazine
advertisement uses many visual
motifs as explained earlier. This
differs slightly from the other
two products because I have not
used photographs of the actors
in it apart from in the photo on
the floor in the foreground of
the image. I think this is still
successful because it still clearly
links with the narrative of the
music video, and I used the
same image for where the CD is
placed in my digipak.
9. When putting all three of my products next to each
other, it is clear that all three belong with each other.
They have all been done to a high and equal standard,
which I am very pleased with.
They have followed and also challenged many codes
and conventions.
