3. Thought Beats
First of all you need to look at the music itself eg. The
structure of the song (chorus/ verses).
Secondly, the voice of the song is very unique to the
artist.
Thirdly, songs can be seen as stories and the artist is
the storyteller. They tell the story, and we listen.
4. Narrative and Performance
When we as the audience hears a song, we get an
idea about what the song is about and the meaning
behind it, so we make up out own idea about the true
depth of the song.
Goodwin says that music videos should ignore
common narrative. It is important in their role of
advertising.
Narrative and performance need to work together in
music videos so the audience can watch it over and
over without loosing interesting.
5. Star image
This is an important aspect of music videos. It creates a
connection with the audience and increases the
popularity of the artist because they can set trends.
They want to be seen as unique.
For example, Michael Jackson’s moon walk.
6. Relation of visuals to song
Illustration – certain images connecting to the song
meaning or genre.
Amplify – Certain images are repeated to be reinforced
through video to be drummed into our heads.
Disjuncture – When the meaning of the song is
completely ignored. This gets viewers talking about the
music video. Although it is hard for the creators to
make.
