2. The combination of my final product and ancillary tasks were effective as it
allowed me to develop further into what representation I wished to give of my
artist. This is because I could tie together the ideas of having the artist presented
in front of a some bushes and plant outside, which was displayed in both my
poster, digipak and music video. I did this so that they all had something in
common to display the specific idea I had of my artist and how I wished for her to
be portrayed. I did not want to use artificial lighting and backgrounds in any of the
products, as I did not want my artist to be represented as a typical pop singer, and
therefore having similar locations and lighting in all of my products allowed me to
use mise-en-scene to give off the correct representation.
3. Following this idea, I also had my artist wearing the same clothing as what she
wore in a few clips of the music video. This again kept the same idea of my
artist’s style and what type of representation she has. I made sure to do this so
that fans and the audience would recognise my artist as this particular person
with a specific representation, and made sure to avoid her wearing different
types of clothing as it may confuse the audience of what type of artist I wanted
to create ‘Blair’ as. I also made sure for my artist to be wearing the same
clothes as it would make the single tie in with the whole promotion of my
album, ‘Nostalgia’, as people who may see any of the other ancillary products
would recognise that it is from this album, which is why I found it essential to
link together all the products in some way.
4. Another way in which the combination was effective was using the
same facial expressions in each of my products. This is so that the
audience would understand the concept my artist was to give off,
like feeling emotional and serious. I did this because all of the lyrics
and meanings behind the songs on my album were emotional and
serious, therefore I combined by music video and poster with this by
using facial expressions to be appropriate with this. However I also
had my artist stare straight into the camera in the video and
digipak, as it would give the same impression so that the audience
would feel a connection with the artist.
5. The music video is not sexualised in any way,
and therefore I combined my ancillary products
with the video by not photographing any
images to give a sexual representation. I did
this so that there would not be any confusion
about which age group or socio-economic
group Blair would be aimed at. I did not have
her posing in a way that could appear to be
sexual, and each product has her wearing
clothes that are not revealing, as this would
make sure she had a specific representation.
6. Overall, I think that the combination of my ancillary products and my
main product were very effective as I kept them all similar and
made sure they all had the same mise-en-scene. I kept the same
image of my artist throughout all three products, which helped build
up the same representation of my artist of what I had originally
aspired her to come across as.
