Biological Implications Of Sexual Orientation And...
Biological Implications of Sexual Orientation and Psychosocial Influences Regarding
Homosexuality Human Sexuality is an important facet of our idea of self and who we are in life. The
act of human reproduction is undeniably necessary for the continuation of the human race. Whether
we choose to practice reproduction as nature intended via coitus between a man and a woman or to
parent children that were conceived under unorthodox methods such as artificial insemination and in
vitro fertilization our humanity can only continue to exist if we create more of ourselves. The most
socially accepted expression of sexual identity is heterosexuality which is defined as sexual
attraction to the opposite sex where sex is defined biologically by the gonads, male genitalia and
female genitalia. At the other end of the spectrum are those identified as homosexual defined by
same sex attraction or attraction to those who are biologically similar to themselves at the gonadal
level. Being human we are aware of the pleasure that can be derived through sexual acts and have
evolved to explore this side of our selves at times independent of the desire to procreate. I would
argue that this desire is nature's way of rewarding us for forwarding our genetics to future
generations and that it is indeed quite natural to explore our desire for pleasure via sexual conduct.
However as humanity has developed social influences, such as religion and the idea of what is
normal, have demonized those possessing

Michael J. Fox: Brave, Strong, And Inspirational?
Brave, Strong, and Inspirational, are words that describe Michael J. Fox because he is a person who
dealt with Parkinson's which is a progressive disease of the nervous system marked by tremor,
muscular rigidity, and slow, imprecise movement, chiefly affecting middle–aged and elderly people.
And he was brave, strong, and inspirational and to all people who were diagnosed with Parkinson's
he was their inspiration to come out of hiding.
Although he was born in Canada, he started out small like every other actor. Fox's teacher told him
about a show on Canadian Broadcasting Company (CBC) Fox would play the part of a bright ten
year old boy. In 1995 he graduated and got his High school diploma and started his part as bright ten
year old in Leo and Me. Leo and Me aired for two years afterwards he did some radio and stage
work like Shadow box. Fox's family was supportive, but they did not believe in him, but his
grandmother did believe in him. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fox played a part as a grandson of actors Art Carney and Maureen Stapleton in a move called
Letters from Frank. This encouraged him to move to Hollywood to try more acting jobs and he left
everything to start a new life in acting in Hollywood. After competing with hundreds of actors he
got a part in Family Ties. After a while in 1986 he won an Emmy for his part on family ties. At the
end of the season of Family Ties he starred in a movie called Back to The Future this was all before
Parkinson's and Michael and he was becoming a star.
" However", Fox went back to Spin City the new season and while filming noticed something was
wrong with his hands they were shaking so he went to the doctor. Doctors tested him and they found
out he had Parkinson's disease. It was "an" abnormal "diagnosis" because he was only in his 30s
"and most people are older that have Parkinson's disease." Fox would have to take medicine to help

The Space Of Space Exploration
Abstract Because our future depends on it, humanity must continue to invest in space exploration..
Technologies from the space program can be used to benefit the world and everyday life. Space
flight encourages scientific aspirations and therefore more college educated people. The answers to
the most deep–rooted questions of humanity lie in space. Who are we, why are we here? Are we
alone? Why spend money on spaceflight when we have plenty of problems here on earth? The
money that we spend on spaceflight will circle around to solve the pressing problems back at home.
Why use humans instead of robots? Nothing can match the tenacity and adaptability of a human and
the sense of accomplishment achieved by human exploration. These things are ... Show more

Remember when you dreamed? What did you dream about? I was an astronaut on a spacewalk. I
was terrified yet thrilled. I was a kid in a tree house dreaming of something greater than himself that
will change the world and humanity forever.
Thesis: Because our future depends on it, humanity must continue to invest in space exploration,
particularly in exploring Mars.
Methods
To understand the importance of space flight, I thought that it would be vital to grasp the mindset of
people who have firsthand experience with spaceflight. I began by reading Buzz Aldrin's 2013 book,
Mission to Mars: My Vision for Space Exploration published by National Geographic as well as the
2016 speech, "Mars Matters" given by Charles Bolden, the director of NASA, at the 32nd Space
Symposium in Colorado Springs, Colorado. I then thought that it would be important to comprehend
the historical significance of space flight. I found 2 articles by NASA's chief historian, Steven J.
Dick published by NASA: "The Importance of Exploration" and "Societal Impact of the Space Age"
(2005). I needed to know in more detail the future of space flight that I was arguing for so I read the
2016 Huffington Post Article by David H. Bailey and Jonathan M. Borwein titled, "Space
Exploration: The Future is Now." I wanted to develop an idea of the intangible reasons that we
explore space; the psychological reasons. These were explained in the 2007 Air

Legalizing Gay Adoption
Legalizing the Adoption of Children by Gay marriage
The adoption of children should be based on finding a home with loving parents. This situation
should not be judged regarding the sexual orientation. Gay marriage is now legal, the next step
could be adopting children without any restrictions whatsoever. The Christian Church and some
other religions overall see this as a wrong doing to humanity, some people believe children might
grow up wanting to be the same. Also, there are many individuals out there in the world who are
straight and still mistreat children, maybe they do not provide the care required to raise their own in
a correct way. The adoption of children by gay people has also been seen as something that is not
acceptable, as if ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are plenty of disagreements in the United States about what is moral and what is immoral.
Some people believe raising children absent of religion is immoral, yet others who do not practice
any religion can adopt children and be foster parents. Why should this stop gay people from being
adoptive a child? Drinking alcohol could be consider an immoral act, but it does not stop anyone
from being evaluated as a foster parent, adoption should not be based on anybody's sexual
orientation. If we remove all the people who could be considered immoral, we will be left with
almost no parents to adopt children and provide foster care. Most of us agree that it is not right to
leave children without a home when there are plenty of qualified loving parents waiting to raise
them. If heterosexual couples can raise children, gay couples should be given the change to do so
too. (J. Michael Bailey, Bobrow, Wolfe & Mikach.

Why Does The Leatherback Sea Turtles Do They Face With...
The Leatherback sea turtle is one of seven different turtle spices in the world. It inhabits three major
tropical bodies of water: Pacific, Atlantic, and the Indian Oceans [2]. According to IUCN Red List
of Threatened Species [1] the leatherback sea turtle (Demochelys coriacea) is at a vulnerable state.
With its geographically widespread distribution, the species is doing well in population size. A
unique aspect about this turtle is that its diet consists only of soft–bodied animals, such as jellyfish.
[16]. Hence, the research question being discusses in this paper being: How and why does the
leatherback sea turtle eat only jellyfish? And what dangers do they face with migration? With
research from many scientific journals, the following thesis was concluded. Leatherback sea turtles
survive and feed exclusively on jellyfish because of their adapted anatomy and for migratory
purpose such as foraging and mating while facing dangers of lengthy migrations due to humans. As
previously stated, jellyfish, or gelatinous zooplankton, are an integral part of the leatherback sea
turtles diet. Jellyfish species (medusae) and population are as geographically widespread as the
turtles themselves [9]. Ranging all over the temperate and tropical waters, studying these creatures is
very difficult due to difficult ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That's why many conservation efforts have been made to help decline the mortality rate caused by
humans. Commercial fishing and human pollution is a large cause of mortality during migration for
these animals [5]. Another up and coming cause of concern is climate change throughout the world.
The turtles rely very heavily on the ability to forage in temperate waters, the migrating to tropical
ones. Without having a clear distinction of where to find their prey, the turtle population could once

The Breath Of Other People Killed Them
Throughout the eighteenth–century great strides were being made in the medical field regarding the
understanding of disease, biology, and public health. With the contributions of scientists, doctors,
and researchers the overall health of the ever–growing population in the eighteenth–century began
to improve dramatically. By the early nineteen hundreds, life expectancy had risen to about 55 years.
The introduction and understanding of antiseptics, sterilization, and etiology and discoveries of
Pasteur, Lister, and Koch invoked a rise against disease which lead to a rise in life expectancy. All
throughout history humans have had to face disease in all of its many different forms. This forced

One of the greatest breakthroughs in medicine occurred in the late eighteenth with the discovery of
Louis Pasteur and his experiments regarding the growth of bacteria and their ability to travel from
place to place. After countless years of research and analyzation, Pasteur used his findings to
develop pasteurization (Haigh). Pasteurization is a process which involves heating certain liquids to
kill bacteria and prevent fermentation. Pasteur also developed an anthrax vaccine along with a way
to weaken the effects of the rabies virus. Using the work of Pasteur another scientist by the name of
Joseph Lister developed antisepsis, a way of killing disease–causing germs. In 1865 before an
operation, Lister cleaned a leg wound with carbolic acid and performed the surgical procedure with
heated instruments, heating the instruments sterilized them (Gieson). The patient in question would
have needed an amputation if it was not for Lister sterilizing medical instruments and the surgical
field. Eventually, Lister incorporated the use of sterilization in all of his surgical procedures,
decreasing the amount of postoperative mortality. The use of antiseptics did not just reduce
postoperative mortality it also helped out in the treatment of wounds and making childbirth a less
risky process for both women and their children.
Another scientist that lead to great reform in the medical community, science, and public health was

Urban Social Identity (URB 630)
Fall 2016 Final Paper
MICHAEL JACKSON, A.K.A. KING OF POP
Introduction
Michael Jackson's global iconic status has won him a lot of respect in the entertainment industry.
His legendary work in the modern urban social identity has been strikingly phenomenal. But as a
human being, there are many flaws that characterize his personality.
In this essay, I analyze Michael Jackson's contribution to the entertainment industry, his global
identity, his message for authority on environment, his social life, his moral life, and the many legal
battles he had to fight. This is followed by a summary of my main arguments before drawing
conclusion to my essay.
Background Michael was born on August 29th 1958 in Gary, Indiana and is the seventh child of
Joseph and Katherine Esther Jackson. The African American entertainer, singer, and songwriter did
not have any formal education.
However, he was naturally talented and very successful with his work, in spite of his little academic
background. He made his musical debut as early as age five when his group Jackson 5, performed in
Motown, Los Angeles.
Contribution to the Entertainment Industry
Michael Jackson, the self–acclaimed King of Pop, justified his career title with numerous hit albums
ranging from "Thriller," "ABC, The Love You Save," "I'll Be There," "Ben," "Off the Wall," "Beat
It," "Billie Jean," and many more.
His musical prowess reached the crescendo in the early 1980s with

their beliefs, many Amish today are struggling to maintain this as the "English" ever–changing

The Nature Of Fear In World War Z
World War Z, by Max Brooks, is often thought of as the gory recount of humanities quarrel with the
zombies, however these fictional episodes convey a deeper message about fear. World War Z sends a
message that is consistent with the ideas that fear may cause people to do things they would
otherwise condone, but oppositely fear is a barrier between rationality and insanity. Overall what
Max Brooks suggests about the nature of fear is that fear can twist human judgement and make
people do the unthinkable, but without fear people could become much more dangerous. Humans
should have some fear for it is one of the principle emotions of what it means to be human, and
without fear or too much fear we lose perception of our limitations, however denial is not the right
way to seem fearless or handle fear. In World War Z it is clear that whether it be a government, a
survivalist group, or a small military battalion, fear causes people to do things that they would
otherwise think is insane or immoral. One insight to this perspective is during a scene where the
commander of a U.S. battalion is punishing his group for disobeying orders. In this scene the man
being interviewed recounts his superior saying "'You spoiled children think democracy is a God
given right. You expect it, you demand it! Well, now you're going to get your chance to practice it."
What did he mean? We should be the ones to decide who would be punished. Broken up into groups
of ten we would have to vote on which one

Significance Of The Back And The Future Trilogy
The Significance of the Back to the Future Trilogy
Earlier this month, actor Michael J. Fox tweeted "Only off by a year, not bad. Congrats @Cubs. This
is so heavy." (@realmikefox) His tweet was a reference to a "prediction" made in the 1989 film,
Back to the Future Part II, in which Fox starred as the lead character of Marty. Even though the film
was released twenty–seven years ago, and its predecessor was released four years prior to that, the
tweet itself garnered over eighteen thousand "Twitter likes," showcasing that series relevance alive
in today's society.
The Back to the Future trilogy has made its way into the hearts of millions; still being loved now
just as much as when it was first released. The film trilogy, produced by Steven Spielberg and
directed by Robert Zemeckis, stars Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd as the lead characters.
Supporting actors include Lea Thompson, Thomas F. Wilson, and Crispen Glover. The storyline
follows Marty McFly (Fox) as he travels through time in a Delorean that has been manipulated by
his best friend, the kooky scientist, Doc Brown (Lloyd). Throughout three films, Marty attempts to
re–align history and make it back to 1985 unharmed. The series was a success at the box office,
making almost one billion dollars worldwide between all three films (Thompson, 667). In addition
to the success it had when it was first released, Back to the Future is still relatable to audiences
today, many of which were born long after the decades

In the movie, Back To The Future Part II, when Marty McFly Jr. sits down to watch TV, he doesn't
need to use a remote control to change channels. Instead, he barks commands directly at the big–
screen TV and names six different channels that he wants to view, all of which instantly appear in a
grid on the TV. In another scene, Marty approaches a "Garden Center fruit dispenser" and
commands it to give him some fruit. His first command is "Hey, fruit!" He is ignored by the
dispenser because it has been programmed to respond only to polite commands. When the dispenser
fails to respond, Marty says "Fruit, please!" and the dispenser lowers from the ceiling in the kitchen.
Then Marty says "Thank you" and the dispenser opens and allows him to grab some fruit. Marty
then says "Retract" and the dispenser rises back to its original position. ... Show more content on

Homosexuality: Nature or Nurture
Abstract
The quest to achieve ultimate unity has become quite the hot topic in present years. In Ryan D.
Johnson's online research article, Homosexuality: Nature or Nurture, an explanation of
homosexuality is broken down so the world has a better understanding of homosexuals. As referred
to in the title, the origin of homosexuality has been debated to be because of nature or nurture.
Basically, are people gay because it's their personal choice or is it just who they are? The idea
behind nurture is that the way one was raised can eventually affect a child's sexual preference. In the
first paragraph of this study, Johnson travels back to ancient Greece claiming that homosexuality has
been around for ages, yet the root of the question ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If there was a weak father figure and a strong motherly figure then homosexuality is said to be more
common because the child was unable to overcome their 'Oedipus syndrome.' Also the certain roles
that are given to children at young ages have a common effect on sexuality, whether they follow a
male and female stereotype that is. How a child is raised, what they witness and experience as they
grow up all come together under the idea that nurture over nature has a bigger influence on a
person's sexuality. Therefore this article was quite informative about all the research that has been
done over the years to determine the nature verse nurture question dealing with homosexuality. The
article was not as descriptive with calculations and didn't go too in–detail about what each
experiment entailed but the outcomes gave enough data to let the reader establish their own opinion.
Kinsey's findings claimed that many men were not comfortable with the idea of two men together,
but another same–sex relation, being women, didn't bother them. These 'facts' were pretty irrelevant
since the experiment was very outdated and didn't mention whether nature or nurturing were
involved but just the appeal of being gay. Also it never mentioned how homosexuality came to be,
as Kinsey claimed was one of the reasons for the experiment. Hooker did a great analysis to prove
that homosexuality was completely not a mental disorder yet a decision of the heart. Swaab's focus
was on how the

Birth Order May Affect Homosexuality: Nature Or Nurture?
As humans, we are all born as individuals. Some parts of us, we are born with, like different hair and
eye colors along with certain aspects of our varying personalities, and others, we learn through our
experiences, such as music and fashion taste and weird senses of humor. For years, there has been
one of many aspects of human beings that science cannot pinpoint whether we are born with it
(nature) or if it is learned (nurture). This one aspect is sexuality. Some believe that people choose to
be gay to torture their parents, while others believe that they are "born this way". Actually,
homosexuality is not solely nature or nurture, but it is both.
In an article posted on WebMD titled "Birth Order May Affect Homosexuality", there is evidence
that homosexuality is caused by nurture. The doctor mentioned in the article, Anthony Bogaert,
conducted a study with men who had older brothers whom they shared with their birth mother. He
found that homosexuality was more common in boys with older brothers, even if they had not been
raised together. Though, Bogaert also conducted the exact same study with families that had
adoptive sons as well, and the findings still held. This supports ... Show more content on

The World 's Largest Catholic Fraternal Service Organization
Lorraine Adams
There are many things that happened before our time that are just as important today as century ago.
In order to understand what a big impact our history can have on us today we have to step back in
time. It 's important to know the stories of those before us. I find it fascinating because it tells me so
much of what it was like during that time. We need to hear these stories, preserve them, and pass
them down to those that come after us.
After visiting The Knights of Columbus I learn something interesting. The world 's largest Catholic
fraternal service organization was founded by Father Michael J. McGivney in New Haven in 1882;
it was named in honor of Christopher Columbus.

He failed to gain support for his project in Portugal so he decided to move to Spain. This is where
circumstances were more favorable and it worked out because the Catholic monarchs Isabella of

like Eva Peron was the influential power behind her husband making decisions. Both these Isabella
and Eva political influence was credited to their husbands. Although both of these women had great
knowledge and experience in broken financial systems their activities, desires and influence

After getting the support and financing, Christopher Columbus 's expedition led to the opening of

for more than a century. What stood out about his long drawn out journey was how he accomplished
this by commanding three small ships, which landed on the coast of a Caribbean island and as a
result this began the Spanish conquest of America.
The 1492 voyage granted Christopher Columbus recognition with the European, which secured him
the title of Admiral of the Ocean Sea. More importantly, it also helped him to obtain further royal
patronage and as a result he lead three more expeditions to the Caribbean.

The Lucky Man Analysis
The Lucky Man is an autobiography written by Michael J. Fox, a famous actor, about his experience
with being diagnosed with Parkinson's disease as well as what he learned from the event. To convey
his struggle and newfound understanding, Michael used memories placed out of order to show
different aspects of his personality as well as the outcomes of problems he faced. Additionally, he
uses humor to allow the reader to feel connected and have a better understanding of his disease. The
use of memories and comedy creates a relatable reading experience which allows the reader to
sympathize with the author and raises awareness for Parkinson's disease.
The author does not explain a situation in chronological order which creates intrigue and gives the
reader necessary context. Initially, Michael displays a problem that he is facing, but before going
into too much detail, he shares a memory from the past to show the differences between a problem
and what led to it. Afterwards, he transitions back to the moment he started with and shows the
outcome. Fox starts off by describing the first time he noticed his twitching pinky. "Throughout the
course of the morning, the twitching would intensify, as would my search for a cause––not just for
the rest of that day, but for months to follow" (4). Following the description of the symptom, he
hints at what will happen to him in the future, as well as gives context as to what preceded the
realization of the twitching pinky, before returning to

the most consistency with a return percentage, while Nike is high risk, high return, and Chipotle and
Exxon Mobil are low risk and low return types of stocks. Next, I will evaluate Mr. Bailey's
diversification analysis and potential for improvement.
Diversification
Mr. Bailey's investments appear to be exclusively domestic assets. With a wide variety of stocks
internationally available, he should consider expanding his portfolio based on the diversification
potential accessible to him. With the amount of monetary assets within the corporate bond market,
which is estimated to be around $7.5 trillion, there is plenty of return potential available for
individual U.S. investors. The study from the article, "Portfolio Diversification and International
Corporate Bonds" by Edith X. Liu, implies the minimal amount of invested assets U.S. investors
have in the corporate bond market. With the statistical evidence of over 80% risk reduction in this
market, which were observed exclusively during the crisis period, the return potential is obtainable
for Mr. Bailey (Liu, E. X., 2016, pp. 959–983).

experience in high school that science is poorly taught. My Biology teacher in high school was the
assistant football coach. He knew more about football than Biology, and because of that I learned
very little. It wasn't until I came to college that I actually began to learn anything about science. This
needs to be changed. Science is an important part of the curriculum. Often it is seen as not as
important as reading or writing, and because of this it is neglected.
We, as a society, are hurting because of this. I recently saw a story on Dateline NBC about how we
are having to hire all our doctors from other countries because of our lack of doctors trained in our

sexual arousal is dependent on other factors such as the context, social, or culture. Because of this,
there can be more variability among females' sexual orientation, attraction, or arousal. Although it is

Nature or Nurture Have you ever wondered what creates a persons sexual preference? Is it possible
that their social influences and environment can lead them to certain sexual practices and same sex
relationships or could it be that some people have a genetic makeup that makes it completely natural
to be attracted to members of the same sex? These questions lead us to the long–lived debate of
nature or nurture. Some scientists believe that people behave as they do according to their genetic

Xq28. In his study, he examined 114 families with homosexual members and found that the
incidence of homosexuality was higher in the maternal side of the families. As males get their Y
chromosomes from their fathers and, X chromosomes from their mothers, Hamer came to the
conclusion that there is definite proof that male homosexuality does have a biological basis in the
Xq28 region of the X chromosome. (Shultz, 139; Hammer, Online) To further substantiate biology
as the true cause of Homosexuality, Michael Bailey of Northwestern University joined Richard
Pillard of the Boston University School of Medicine to publish a study of homosexuality in twins.
The findings of their study showed that sexual orientation is something that one is born with. Pillard
and Bailey and surveyed homosexual men about their brothers, and they found some statistics that
were rather unexpected. Of the homosexuals who had identical twin brothers, 52 percent of those
twins were also homosexual. 22 percent of those who had fraternal twins said that their twin was
gay, and only eleven percent of those who had adopted siblings said that their adopted brothers were
also homosexual. Bailey and Pillard

The Concept Of Brand Strategy Essay
Assumption 1:
In the first paragraph, the authors claim that the idea of brand strategy has been widely accepted in
hotel industry. The authors cite Dev et al. (2009) and state that the brand strategy becomes vital in
hotel marketing. To further support that assertion, the authors continue cite Jiang, Dev & Rao (2002)
and state that beginning with Quality International in 1981, most hotel companies have developed
many brands concentrating on different markets. Thus, I think the reasoning for this assumption is
sound and logical. Nowadays there are numerous brands existed in the hotel industry, such as Accor,
Marriott, and Hilton. The existence of numerous brands indicates that hotel industry has accepted
the importance of the branding in marketing strategy. In line with Dev et al. (2009) and the authors,
Bailey & Ball (2006) state that hotel industry has adopted branding, the branding has become a
"powerful force" in marketing. Thus, I agree with authors on this assumption.
Assumption 2:
In the second paragraph, the authors make an assumption that the brand name could provide
tangibility to an intangible entity (Brucks, Zeithaml & Naylor 2000). Based on that assumption, the
authors cite O'Neil & Mattila (2004) and make an assertion that overall customer satisfaction
potential guests' awareness of the brand, and heir perception of its quality construct the brand value.
Therefore, I think the reasoning for this assumption is sound and logical. However, I think this
assertion

Sexual Arousal And Sexual Activity Essay
Sexual arousal can vary from person to person. Some people are aroused just by looking at a person,
being touched in a certain place on one's body, or thinking about a sexual act. Sexual arousal, or
sexual excitement, is described as a physiological state as well as emotional. Physiologically, it is
defined as an increased amount of blood flow to the genitals during a sexual act. As the amount of
blood flow increased to the genitals, the clitoris swells for the woman and the penis erects for a man
(Sexuality and U). Researchers have done studies on sexual arousal, particularly Gerulf Rieger,
Ritch C. Savin– Williams, Meredith L. Chivers, and J. Michael Bailey. These individuals did a study
where sexual arousal experiments were done with female individuals to test the level of sexual
arousal physiologically based on the sexual orientation of a female (Rieger, Savin– Williams,
Chivers, Bailey, 2015). Rieger, Savin– Williams, Chivers, and Bailey did a study that proposed that
the level of sexual arousal depends on a females' sexual orientation. Particularly, females' level of
sexual arousal is higher with both males and females, whereas with males it is only high with their
preferred sexual orientation. However, lesbians are the exception. They are more aroused in
response to other females (Rieger et al., 2015). These researchers' hypothesized straight women are
sexually aroused by both sexes, while lesbians are strongly sexually aroused to the same sex.

Psychology: Movie Paper
Psychology: Movie Paper – Mary and Max The movie Mary and Max is the story of an eight year
old girl, named Mary, from Australia who doesn't have any friends, and lives with her father and
alcoholic mother. Max is a forty–four year old man from New York City, who is obese, has a
disorder later revealed to be Aspergers, and also has no friends. They develop an unlikely friendship
when Mary picks his name out of a phone book and decides to write him a letter asking him where
babies come from. They become penpals and friends through many ups and downs in their lives,
returning to each other for support and advice. This movie would make a wonderful study on
Asperger 's Syndrome alone, however it touches on many other psychological principles ... Show

Towards the end of the movie Mary finds herself stuck in a major depression. Max has stopped
writing to her, effectively ending their friendship, both of her parents have died in a short span of
time, and her husband left her. It is no surprise that with all of those negative events and losses that
she experienced happening so close together that she would be depressed. Mary is also drinking
alcohol heavily during this time. Alcohol is the most commonly used depressant and would only
increase any negative emotions that a person is having. Mary's depression could also be exasperated
by her previous experiences with sadness and loss, leading her to have a form of learned
helplessness, where she feels nothing she has done has gone right, so why should she try now.
Damien, Mary's husband, writes Mary a "Dear John" letter to leave her. In the letter he confesses
that he has left her for his pen pal, a man in New Zealand. In this letter, Damien also professes his
love and concern for Mary. This hints at Damien possibly being bisexual, meaning that he is
attracted to both sexes. As Alfred Kinsey believed sexuality was fluid and your sexual orientation
didn't always coincide with the particular notions of heterosexuality and homosexuality. It is also
possible that Damien is a homosexual, meaning he is attracted to the same sex, but was hiding it and
using Mary as his "beard". It was shown in earlier scenes of the movie that Damien cared

Essay On Why Does The Us Need A New War On Poverty
Poverty is when a person is almost at the stage of being poor to where they can hardly take care of
themselves and can hardly depend on becoming successful. The condition of poverty is when people
don't have any money to pay for food, clothing and their shelter is not being met. The U.S. needs a
new war on poverty. One reason why the U.S. needs a new war on poverty is because people all
around the world who are less fortunate need more income to take care of themselves and their
families. For example, children live in unsafe neighborhoods, hardly attending to school. According
to Martha J. Bailey "Poor children live in more–dangerous neighborhoods and attend
underperforming schools" (Bailey ). This means that children hardly like to attend at school because
of their family is struggling.
Another reason why the U.S. needs a new war on poverty is because America could get a chance of
getting more income at a higher level in the century. In addition, " With income inequality at the

According to Michael Tanner "less than 3 percent of workers with full time jobs live in poverty"
(Tanner ).The author is saying not many people who have full time jobs does not live in poverty
because they make a good amount of money within the hours they work throughout a week or how
ever much days they work full time. However, it can be clearly seen that we should have a new war
on poverty because even if people work full time most people can also be living in poverty because
of all of things that they would have to take care of things, pay things and they also have families to
take care of which adds up and money will always be needed and not many people with full time
jobs always can keep money because they have to spend it on useful things. So, in this situation we

Death Penalties Throughout History
For ages, humans have been ending the lives of others in the name of morality and lawfulness, the
reparation for an infraction of adequate proportions. One person breaks a law or commonly agreed
upon ideal and society proceeds to put the perpetrator to death. Ancient civilizations to modern day
people have implemented the death penalty to ensure the well–being, and sometimes discipline, of
societies around the globe. The first official legal use of the death penalty dates back to the
eighteenth century B.C. in the Code of King Hammurabi of Babylon.
Here the King noted 25 crimes to be punishable by death. In seventh century B.C. Greece, the
Draconian Code of Athens established death as the only penalty to be dealt for all crimes. The

Nobody can dispute the advantage of saving millions for the state and its assets.
While those against capital punishment have compelling evidence and argument against the death
penalty, the opposition also exhibits an interesting and moving persuasion. One thing that
unfortunately holds true is that violence is a menacingly effective method of problem solving. Brute
force, when applied in moderation can conclude conflicts almost instantly. Even the U.S. was
founded upon the blood of patriots who fought for the end of tyranny. In this instance, the violence
of killing a convicted person is, ironically, a means to discourage violent and nationally endangering
crimes in the United States. Unfortunately, this is still sometimes overlooked by would–be
criminals. The death penalty also serves another role in American society; justice. The human
psyche often times offers humans a sense of righteousness and closure when those who have done
wrong receive harsh or equal treatment for their crimes.
Humans do not want to see a person getting away with breaking the rules, legal or social, and,
unfortunately blood for blood is an all too common mindset in today's society. Congruently, humans
retain a primal desire for bloodshed, and execution is a great provider for such morbid
entertainment. In the past and even into the modern times, executions have been made public for all
to see. Nowhere else in our civilized nations can people witness death up close

Male Sexual Orientation Is Connected with Genes
A recent study has found proof that male sexual orientation is connected with genes. "Scientists
tested the DNA of 400 gay men and found that genes on at least two chromosomes affected whether
a man was gay or straight" (Sample 1). A specific part of the X chromosome called Xq28 had some
influence on men's sexual behavior. However scientists have not found concrete fundaments as to
which of these number of genes in the region are involved in the determination of men sexual
preference, or the number that lie in other sites within the genome.
Researchers have said before how genes intertwined with men homosexuality may have endured
evolution because they happened to make women who carried them more fertile. This could be the
case for genes in the Xq28 region, as the X chromosome is passed down to men exclusively from
their mothers (Sample 2). A scientist at the US national cancer institute, investigated the family
histories of around a hundred gay men and found homosexuality was very likely and prone to be
inherited. This study came up with the results that more than ten percent of brothers of gay men
were gay themselves, in comparison to approximately three percent of overall inhabitants. On the
other hand, uncles and male cousins on the mother's side of the family led Hammer to have a closer
look at the X chromosome. After arduous and continuous studies, he came with these results, he
found that thirty–three out of forty–four homosexual brothers inherited alike genetic

The Purchase of Louisiana happened in 1803, and it was one of the most important events in the
United States. In 1803, The United Stated purchased more than 529,911,680 acres (2144476 square

A Judgement For Solomon : The D ' Hauteville Case
In A Judgement for Solomon: The d'Hauteville Case and Legal Experience in Antebellum America,
Grossberg outlines the complex legal experiences of the d'Hauteville family and the effect their
experiences have on Antebellum America. On August 22, 1837, Ellen Sears and Paul Daniel
Gonzalve Grand d'Hauteville were married and moved to Switzerland. By the winter of 1838, Ellen
became pregnant and pleaded with Gonzalve to let her return to America to give birth to her child.
Eventually, Gonzalve gave in and let Ellen leave; however, after giving birth, Ellen refused to return
to Switzerland, citing cruel treatment from Gonzalve as her reason for staying away. Later, Ellen
realized it was an informal separation that she sought. However, soon the ... Show more content on

Therefore, the emergence of divisive new ideas indicated a progressive movement towards greater
maternal rights was underway. Analyzing the case of Abigail and Asa Bailey aids in understanding
this drastic change in public opinion. In 1792, Abigail Bailey was quickly granted a divorce from
Asa Bailey. However, Abigail waited twenty–two years to file this petition for divorce, as Asa first
had an affair just three years after their marriage in 1770. It is interesting to compare Abigail's case
to Ellen's because in both cases, each woman repeatedly cites her hesitation to take legal action
because of what she believes to be her duty to her husband. However, what is considered cruel
enough to justify breaking that duty and separating from their husbands drastically differs. Abigail
waited through multiple affairs and the sexual assault of her own daughter before beginning the
legal process. Meanwhile, Ellen sought legal action after what she cited to be mental cruelty.
In just half a century, a major shift in public opinion occurred. The question then arises: what caused
this shift to occur? Grossberg noted the rise of the independent penny press and the effect it had on
public opinion. Before the advent of the penny press, there was the sixpenny press. This was largely
restricted to upper–class

Essay Jainism: Peaceful Coexistence With All Living Beings
"Religion is morally neutral like, say, a knife. When you use it to cut sandwiches, then a knife is a

Ethical disagreements within a religious culture sometimes become sharp enough to cut it into
pieces. Hindu Vedic rituals required animal sacrifice, which Jains considered immoral (Molloy, p.
193). Instead of having blood on their hands, Jains preferred to practice a peaceful coexistence with
all living beings. Thus, the Jain symbol of the right–hand reminds people to stop and think about the
right course of action. Written in the palm of this symbol is the word "ahimsa" or non–violence
(Daryapurkar, 2008, p. 1). Jains instead focus their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Where Hindu belief is that all of us are a part of Brahman, Jainism holds to the view that everyone
and everything is a separate and distinct jiva or consciousness. Jains have a very interesting system
of classifying souls based on the level of conscious awareness. This classification begins with many
things that non–Jains regard as either inorganic or vegetation. Steven Lalwani explains that they
classify these "things" as having the sense of touch and then move upward through the senses,
creating a new category based on the number of senses the soul has. The highest of these are beings
with five senses like humans. This emphasis on individuality seems to inspire Jains to have the
utmost respect for all life and even things like rocks and streams. Jains view each of these souls as
eternally independent. As such, the soul is responsible for what it does and experiences the
consequences of its actions. This sort of personal accountability seems to reinforce the Jain's high
notions of morals and ethics and guide the varying principles of behavior as to avoid karma (Jainism
Beliefs, 2011, p. 2).
Due to the differing way Jains view and understand the soul, by extension they also have
dissimilarities from the Hindu on how karma affects such. The honor of being human leads Jains to
focus their actions on pure thoughts and deed so that, like the Hindu, they may achieve the ultimate
goal of moksha or freedom (Molloy, p. 197).

Representations Of Religion And Western Media
Representations of Religion in Western Media
Islam
There is a current obsession in western media, (during the last decade) pertaining to "Islam and the
West". This current obsession is filled with negative signifiers with the global media's
predominantly negative, and to an extent racist portrayal of Islam and Muslims. Muslims are
generally represented as violent, fanatical, bigoted, or as extremists and terrorists. Media coverage
of Islam–related issues has changed drastically since the start of the new millennium, both in
quantity and quality. The events the of September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade
Center, cast Islam into the forefront of global media: not only did coverage of Islam rapidly
increase, particularly in news and entertainment media, but the way in which Islam was represented
by the media changed as well. The most prevalent Islamic stereotype in western media is the
radicalized Muslim insurgent, firm on waging jihad, or holy war, against the Western world. This
stereotype usually depicts violence as an inseparable part of being Muslim, as well as the religion
being a justifier for the violent actions.
An example of this kind of a negative stereotype can be seen in the character of Sayid Jarrah on
ABC's LOST. Jarrah, the only central Muslim character on the show, previously worked for the Iraqi
Republican Guard as a communications officer and interrogator, and is frequently shown using
torture techniques to extract information from prisoners.

Back To The Future
Back to the Future starring Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd and Lea Thompson, is a 1985 film
directed by Robert Zemeckis. The film takes place in its current time with a mad scientist Dr.
Emmett L. Brown (Christopher Lloyd) constructs a time machine out of a delorean and travels back
to 1955 with a young man named Marty Mcfly (Michael J. Fox). While in time travel they alternate
the past, which disrupts the future, where Marty McFly now has to get his parents to fall in love or
his future self will never exist.
The theme in this movie I believe is that we cannot change the past; our lives already have a
predestined beginning, middle and end. There is nothing we can do to change it we are simply
walking the path that is laid before us and no matter what happens nothing will change the end
result. "Despite ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While traveling to different time zones Marty and Dr. Brown tried there best to keep up with there
wardrobe by changing before time travel, after arriving at time destination or simply not changing at
all which ended in very awkward moments. The set design fit very well with the costume design,
while the two are traveling through several time zones of course the props and backdrop settings
change as well. One of the main scenes take place back in 1955 where they set the scene up
perfectly with the old school cars flooded the scene; 1955 Cadillac series 51,1954 Chevrolet Bel Air
Nomad , and a 1954 Ford Mainline. Seeing all the old school cars they drove in the 50's really put
you in the zone. The old school buildings and houses really fit the 50's as well the diners had
checkered floors bar stools and old school music playing in the background. When Marty first
teleported to the 1950's the first song we heard was "Mr. Sandman" which was a hit in the fifties
sung by the Four Aces, Etta James "dance with me", out the window played by Eddie Van Helen.

Should Gay Marriage Be A Hot Button Issue?
Gay marriage has been and is continuing to be a hot–button issue in America for some time now in
which both sides have strong and passionate support. To say the least hysteria and outrage has
ensued leading to discrimination against a whole community of people. Questions like "Is
homosexuality genetically caused or is it by choice?" have been one of the main debating points.
Everyone has an opinion on this question but few valid scientific answers have been provided but
this could start to change rather quickly. According to new scientific studies there is a growing
amount of evidence that being gay is not by choice but is predetermined by our DNA. A
psychologist at Northwestern University named J. Michael Bailey conducted an experiment on
families with at least a pair of gay brothers. This experiment was able to recruit 409 pairs of gay
brothers and to the surprise of Bailey and his team it found that there were linkages in two parts of
the DNA linking to sexuality (Servick NP). This is one study that shows strong evidence leaning
towards the argument that being gay is not by choice but is genetically predetermined. While
discrimination towards homosexuals isn't nearly as severe and blatantly open like it was towards the
African American community before the Civil Rights Movement is it not the same issue.
Discrimination towards a group of people due to a factor in which they cannot control. This type of
discrimination goes against the core American message of life,

Hypothalamic Structure Between Heterosexual And Homosexuality
In a scientific investigation on human homosexuality, there is an ongoing debate over the claim,
"being gay is innate." The debate is raised due to the unequal sense of the term, innate, in scientific
discourse. As well as undetermined scientific evidence on how being gay arises. To understand why,
and to lead us on to some of the scientific researches done around this, we will firstly evaluate the
meaning of innateness. Then pick out a particular component out of those meanings and critically
examine two main studies to conclude with the most plausible view on this unsettled debate.
Multiple meanings of innateness
Firstly, the concept of innateness is a very dubious term when used in debates about whether a
particular trait is innate or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hamar illustrates this through family tree studies and the X chromosome. Where, rates of
homosexuality in maternally related males were shown in family trees of male sexual orientation
compared to the insignificant rates in paternal relatives. Which brought up the chances of the
implication in the X chromosome. As males have an X and a Y sex chromosome, a trait inherited
from the mother's side (X chromosome) might be influenced by a gene on one of her X
chromosomes. Moreover, there's been further experiments that demonstrated the effect of X
chromosome, Xq28, being shared by a number of gay brothers. (Simon LeVay and Dean H. Hamar,
1994) Conversely, we should question about the confounding variables that can play a role in the
biological aspect. According to paper on, "Sexual Orientation of Adult Sons of Gay Fathers," there
are at least three possible environmental transmission routes. Firstly, children may pick up their
sexual orientations by imitating their parents. By this concept, a child may acquire the desired love
preferred by his same–sex parent. Secondly, when trying to remove the associations of
homosexuality to those who are inclined to become homosexual, it rather increases the rate of
homosexuality. However, this point is only an opinion in journals concerning this issue and not from
academic journals. And

Biological Implications Of Sexual Orientation And...

  • 1. Biological Implications Of Sexual Orientation And... Biological Implications of Sexual Orientation and Psychosocial Influences Regarding Homosexuality Human Sexuality is an important facet of our idea of self and who we are in life. The act of human reproduction is undeniably necessary for the continuation of the human race. Whether we choose to practice reproduction as nature intended via coitus between a man and a woman or to parent children that were conceived under unorthodox methods such as artificial insemination and in vitro fertilization our humanity can only continue to exist if we create more of ourselves. The most socially accepted expression of sexual identity is heterosexuality which is defined as sexual attraction to the opposite sex where sex is defined biologically by the gonads, male genitalia and female genitalia. At the other end of the spectrum are those identified as homosexual defined by same sex attraction or attraction to those who are biologically similar to themselves at the gonadal level. Being human we are aware of the pleasure that can be derived through sexual acts and have evolved to explore this side of our selves at times independent of the desire to procreate. I would argue that this desire is nature's way of rewarding us for forwarding our genetics to future generations and that it is indeed quite natural to explore our desire for pleasure via sexual conduct. However as humanity has developed social influences, such as religion and the idea of what is normal, have demonized those possessing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Fox because he is a person who dealt with Parkinson's which is a progressive disease of the nervous system marked by tremor, muscular rigidity, and slow, imprecise movement, chiefly affecting middle–aged and elderly people. And he was brave, strong, and inspirational and to all people who were diagnosed with Parkinson's he was their inspiration to come out of hiding. Although he was born in Canada, he started out small like every other actor. Fox's teacher told him about a show on Canadian Broadcasting Company (CBC) Fox would play the part of a bright ten year old boy. In 1995 he graduated and got his High school diploma and started his part as bright ten year old in Leo and Me. Leo and Me aired for two years afterwards he did some radio and stage work like Shadow box. Fox's family was supportive, but they did not believe in him, but his grandmother did believe in him. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Fox played a part as a grandson of actors Art Carney and Maureen Stapleton in a move called Letters from Frank. This encouraged him to move to Hollywood to try more acting jobs and he left everything to start a new life in acting in Hollywood. After competing with hundreds of actors he got a part in Family Ties. After a while in 1986 he won an Emmy for his part on family ties. At the end of the season of Family Ties he starred in a movie called Back to The Future this was all before Parkinson's and Michael and he was becoming a star. " However", Fox went back to Spin City the new season and while filming noticed something was wrong with his hands they were shaking so he went to the doctor. Doctors tested him and they found out he had Parkinson's disease. It was "an" abnormal "diagnosis" because he was only in his 30s "and most people are older that have Parkinson's disease." • 9. The Space Of Space Exploration Abstract Because our future depends on it, humanity must continue to invest in space exploration.. Technologies from the space program can be used to benefit the world and everyday life. Space flight encourages scientific aspirations and therefore more college educated people. The answers to the most deep–rooted questions of humanity lie in space. Who are we, why are we here? Are we alone? Why spend money on spaceflight when we have plenty of problems here on earth? The money that we spend on spaceflight will circle around to solve the pressing problems back at home. Why use humans instead of robots? Nothing can match the tenacity and adaptability of a human and the sense of accomplishment achieved by human exploration. These things are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Remember when you dreamed? What did you dream about? I was an astronaut on a spacewalk. I was terrified yet thrilled. I was a kid in a tree house dreaming of something greater than himself that will change the world and humanity forever. Thesis: Because our future depends on it, humanity must continue to invest in space exploration, particularly in exploring Mars. Methods To understand the importance of space flight, I thought that it would be vital to grasp the mindset of people who have firsthand experience with spaceflight. I began by reading Buzz Aldrin's 2013 book, Mission to Mars: My Vision for Space Exploration published by National Geographic as well as the 2016 speech, "Mars Matters" given by Charles Bolden, the director of NASA, at the 32nd Space Symposium in Colorado Springs, Colorado. I then thought that it would be important to comprehend the historical significance of space flight. I found 2 articles by NASA's chief historian, Steven J. Dick published by NASA: "The Importance of Exploration" and "Societal Impact of the Space Age" (2005). I needed to know in more detail the future of space flight that I was arguing for so I read the 2016 Huffington Post Article by David H. Bailey and Jonathan M. Borwein titled, "Space Exploration: The Future is Now." I wanted to develop an idea of the intangible reasons that we explore space; the psychological reasons. These were explained in the 2007 Air ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Legalizing Gay Adoption Legalizing the Adoption of Children by Gay marriage The adoption of children should be based on finding a home with loving parents. This situation should not be judged regarding the sexual orientation. Gay marriage is now legal, the next step could be adopting children without any restrictions whatsoever. The Christian Church and some other religions overall see this as a wrong doing to humanity, some people believe children might grow up wanting to be the same. Also, there are many individuals out there in the world who are straight and still mistreat children, maybe they do not provide the care required to raise their own in a correct way. The adoption of children by gay people has also been seen as something that is not acceptable, as if ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are plenty of disagreements in the United States about what is moral and what is immoral. Some people believe raising children absent of religion is immoral, yet others who do not practice any religion can adopt children and be foster parents. Why should this stop gay people from being adoptive a child? Drinking alcohol could be consider an immoral act, but it does not stop anyone from being evaluated as a foster parent, adoption should not be based on anybody's sexual orientation. If we remove all the people who could be considered immoral, we will be left with almost no parents to adopt children and provide foster care. Most of us agree that it is not right to leave children without a home when there are plenty of qualified loving parents waiting to raise them. If heterosexual couples can raise children, gay couples should be given the change to do so too. (J. Michael Bailey, Bobrow, Wolfe & Mikach. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It inhabits three major tropical bodies of water: Pacific, Atlantic, and the Indian Oceans [2]. According to IUCN Red List of Threatened Species [1] the leatherback sea turtle (Demochelys coriacea) is at a vulnerable state. With its geographically widespread distribution, the species is doing well in population size. A unique aspect about this turtle is that its diet consists only of soft–bodied animals, such as jellyfish. [16]. Hence, the research question being discusses in this paper being: How and why does the leatherback sea turtle eat only jellyfish? And what dangers do they face with migration? With research from many scientific journals, the following thesis was concluded. Leatherback sea turtles survive and feed exclusively on jellyfish because of their adapted anatomy and for migratory purpose such as foraging and mating while facing dangers of lengthy migrations due to humans. As previously stated, jellyfish, or gelatinous zooplankton, are an integral part of the leatherback sea turtles diet. Jellyfish species (medusae) and population are as geographically widespread as the turtles themselves [9]. With the contributions of scientists, doctors, and researchers the overall health of the ever–growing population in the eighteenth–century began to improve dramatically. By the early nineteen hundreds, life expectancy had risen to about 55 years. The introduction and understanding of antiseptics, sterilization, and etiology and discoveries of Pasteur, Lister, and Koch invoked a rise against disease which lead to a rise in life expectancy. One of the greatest breakthroughs in medicine occurred in the late eighteenth with the discovery of Louis Pasteur and his experiments regarding the growth of bacteria and their ability to travel from place to place. After countless years of research and analyzation, Pasteur used his findings to develop pasteurization (Haigh). Pasteurization is a process which involves heating certain liquids to kill bacteria and prevent fermentation. Pasteur also developed an anthrax vaccine along with a way to weaken the effects of the rabies virus. Using the work of Pasteur another scientist by the name of Joseph Lister developed antisepsis, a way of killing disease–causing germs. In 1865 before an operation, Lister cleaned a leg wound with carbolic acid and performed the surgical procedure with heated instruments, heating the instruments sterilized them (Gieson). The patient in question would have needed an amputation if it was not for Lister sterilizing medical instruments and the surgical field. Eventually, Lister incorporated the use of sterilization in all of his surgical procedures, decreasing the amount of postoperative mortality. The use of antiseptics did not just reduce postoperative mortality it also helped out in the treatment of wounds and making childbirth a less risky process for both women and their children. Background Michael was born on August 29th 1958 in Gary, Indiana and is the seventh child of Joseph and Katherine Esther Jackson. The African American entertainer, singer, and songwriter did not have any formal education. • 33. The Nature Of Fear In World War Z World War Z, by Max Brooks, is often thought of as the gory recount of humanities quarrel with the zombies, however these fictional episodes convey a deeper message about fear. World War Z sends a message that is consistent with the ideas that fear may cause people to do things they would otherwise condone, but oppositely fear is a barrier between rationality and insanity. Overall what Max Brooks suggests about the nature of fear is that fear can twist human judgement and make people do the unthinkable, but without fear people could become much more dangerous. Humans should have some fear for it is one of the principle emotions of what it means to be human, and without fear or too much fear we lose perception of our limitations, however denial is not the right way to seem fearless or handle fear. In World War Z it is clear that whether it be a government, a survivalist group, or a small military battalion, fear causes people to do things that they would otherwise think is insane or immoral. One insight to this perspective is during a scene where the commander of a U.S. battalion is punishing his group for disobeying orders. In this scene the man being interviewed recounts his superior saying "'You spoiled children think democracy is a God given right. You expect it, you demand it! Well, now you're going to get your chance to practice it." What did he mean? We should be the ones to decide who would be punished. Broken up into groups of ten we would have to vote on which one ... Congrats @Cubs. This is so heavy." (@realmikefox) His tweet was a reference to a "prediction" made in the 1989 film, Back to the Future Part II, in which Fox starred as the lead character of Marty. Even though the film was released twenty–seven years ago, and its predecessor was released four years prior to that, the tweet itself garnered over eighteen thousand "Twitter likes," showcasing that series relevance alive in today's society. The Back to the Future trilogy has made its way into the hearts of millions; still being loved now just as much as when it was first released. The film trilogy, produced by Steven Spielberg and directed by Robert Zemeckis, stars Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd as the lead characters. Supporting actors include Lea Thompson, Thomas F. Wilson, and Crispen Glover. The storyline follows Marty McFly (Fox) as he travels through time in a Delorean that has been manipulated by his best friend, the kooky scientist, Doc Brown (Lloyd). Throughout three films, Marty attempts to re–align history and make it back to 1985 unharmed. The series was a success at the box office, making almost one billion dollars worldwide between all three films (Thompson, 667). • 45. Homosexuality: Nature or Nurture Abstract The quest to achieve ultimate unity has become quite the hot topic in present years. In Ryan D. Johnson's online research article, Homosexuality: Nature or Nurture, an explanation of homosexuality is broken down so the world has a better understanding of homosexuals. As referred to in the title, the origin of homosexuality has been debated to be because of nature or nurture. Basically, are people gay because it's their personal choice or is it just who they are? The idea behind nurture is that the way one was raised can eventually affect a child's sexual preference. In the first paragraph of this study, Johnson travels back to ancient Greece claiming that homosexuality has been around for ages, yet the root of the question ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If there was a weak father figure and a strong motherly figure then homosexuality is said to be more common because the child was unable to overcome their 'Oedipus syndrome.' Also the certain roles that are given to children at young ages have a common effect on sexuality, whether they follow a male and female stereotype that is. How a child is raised, what they witness and experience as they grow up all come together under the idea that nurture over nature has a bigger influence on a person's sexuality. Therefore this article was quite informative about all the research that has been done over the years to determine the nature verse nurture question dealing with homosexuality. The article was not as descriptive with calculations and didn't go too in–detail about what each experiment entailed but the outcomes gave enough data to let the reader establish their own opinion. Kinsey's findings claimed that many men were not comfortable with the idea of two men together, but another same–sex relation, being women, didn't bother them. These 'facts' were pretty irrelevant since the experiment was very outdated and didn't mention whether nature or nurturing were involved but just the appeal of being gay. Also it never mentioned how homosexuality came to be, as Kinsey claimed was one of the reasons for the experiment. Hooker did a great analysis to prove that homosexuality was completely not a mental disorder yet a decision of the heart. Swaab's focus was on how the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some parts of us, we are born with, like different hair and eye colors along with certain aspects of our varying personalities, and others, we learn through our experiences, such as music and fashion taste and weird senses of humor. For years, there has been one of many aspects of human beings that science cannot pinpoint whether we are born with it (nature) or if it is learned (nurture). This one aspect is sexuality. Some believe that people choose to be gay to torture their parents, while others believe that they are "born this way". Actually, homosexuality is not solely nature or nurture, but it is both. In an article posted on WebMD titled "Birth Order May Affect Homosexuality", there is evidence that homosexuality is caused by nurture. The doctor mentioned in the article, Anthony Bogaert, conducted a study with men who had older brothers whom they shared with their birth mother. He found that homosexuality was more common in boys with older brothers, even if they had not been raised together. Though, Bogaert also conducted the exact same study with families that had adoptive sons as well, and the findings still held. This supports ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Fox, a famous actor, about his experience with being diagnosed with Parkinson's disease as well as what he learned from the event. To convey his struggle and newfound understanding, Michael used memories placed out of order to show different aspects of his personality as well as the outcomes of problems he faced. Additionally, he uses humor to allow the reader to feel connected and have a better understanding of his disease. The use of memories and comedy creates a relatable reading experience which allows the reader to sympathize with the author and raises awareness for Parkinson's disease. The author does not explain a situation in chronological order which creates intrigue and gives the reader necessary context. Initially, Michael displays a problem that he is facing, but before going into too much detail, he shares a memory from the past to show the differences between a problem and what led to it. Afterwards, he transitions back to the moment he started with and shows the outcome. Fox starts off by describing the first time he noticed his twitching pinky. "Throughout the course of the morning, the twitching would intensify, as would my search for a cause––not just for the rest of that day, but for months to follow" (4). Is it possible that their social influences and environment can lead them to certain sexual practices and same sex relationships or could it be that some people have a genetic makeup that makes it completely natural to be attracted to members of the same sex? These questions lead us to the long–lived debate of nature or nurture. Some scientists believe that people behave as they do according to their genetic predispositions or even "animal instincts." This is known as the "nature" theory of human behavior. Other scientists believe that people think and behave in certain ways because they are taught to do so. This is known as the ... It is Dr. Dean Hamer who successfully identifies a gene marker on the X chromosomes, a region which he termed Xq28. As males get their Y chromosomes from their fathers and, X chromosomes from their mothers, Hamer came to the conclusion that there is definite proof that male homosexuality does have a biological basis in the Xq28 region of the X chromosome. The authors cite Dev et al. (2009) and state that the brand strategy becomes vital in hotel marketing. To further support that assertion, the authors continue cite Jiang, Dev & Rao (2002) and state that beginning with Quality International in 1981, most hotel companies have developed many brands concentrating on different markets. Thus, I think the reasoning for this assumption is sound and logical. Nowadays there are numerous brands existed in the hotel industry, such as Accor, Marriott, and Hilton. The existence of numerous brands indicates that hotel industry has accepted the importance of the branding in marketing strategy. In line with Dev et al. (2009) and the authors, Bailey & Ball (2006) state that hotel industry has adopted branding, the branding has become a "powerful force" in marketing. Thus, I agree with authors on this assumption. Assumption 2: In the second paragraph, the authors make an assumption that the brand name could provide tangibility to an intangible entity (Brucks, Zeithaml & Naylor 2000). Based on that assumption, the authors cite O'Neil & Mattila (2004) and make an assertion that overall customer satisfaction potential guests' awareness of the brand, and heir perception of its quality construct the brand value. • 90. Sexual Arousal And Sexual Activity Essay Sexual arousal can vary from person to person. Some people are aroused just by looking at a person, being touched in a certain place on one's body, or thinking about a sexual act. Sexual arousal, or sexual excitement, is described as a physiological state as well as emotional. Physiologically, it is defined as an increased amount of blood flow to the genitals during a sexual act. As the amount of blood flow increased to the genitals, the clitoris swells for the woman and the penis erects for a man (Sexuality and U). Researchers have done studies on sexual arousal, particularly Gerulf Rieger, Ritch C. Savin– Williams, Meredith L. Chivers, and J. Michael Bailey. These individuals did a study where sexual arousal experiments were done with female individuals to test the level of sexual arousal physiologically based on the sexual orientation of a female (Rieger, Savin– Williams, Chivers, Bailey, 2015). Rieger, Savin– Williams, Chivers, and Bailey did a study that proposed that the level of sexual arousal depends on a females' sexual orientation. Particularly, females' level of sexual arousal is higher with both males and females, whereas with males it is only high with their preferred sexual orientation. However, lesbians are the exception. They are more aroused in response to other females (Rieger et al., 2015). These researchers' hypothesized straight women are sexually aroused by both sexes, while lesbians are strongly sexually aroused to the same sex. Secondly, there is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Psychology: Movie Paper Psychology: Movie Paper – Mary and Max The movie Mary and Max is the story of an eight year old girl, named Mary, from Australia who doesn't have any friends, and lives with her father and alcoholic mother. Max is a forty–four year old man from New York City, who is obese, has a disorder later revealed to be Aspergers, and also has no friends. They develop an unlikely friendship when Mary picks his name out of a phone book and decides to write him a letter asking him where babies come from. Towards the end of the movie Mary finds herself stuck in a major depression. Max has stopped writing to her, effectively ending their friendship, both of her parents have died in a short span of time, and her husband left her. It is no surprise that with all of those negative events and losses that she experienced happening so close together that she would be depressed. Mary is also drinking alcohol heavily during this time. Alcohol is the most commonly used depressant and would only increase any negative emotions that a person is having. Mary's depression could also be exasperated by her previous experiences with sadness and loss, leading her to have a form of learned helplessness, where she feels nothing she has done has gone right, so why should she try now. Damien, Mary's husband, writes Mary a "Dear John" letter to leave her. In the letter he confesses that he has left her for his pen pal, a man in New Zealand. In this letter, Damien also professes his love and concern for Mary. This hints at Damien possibly being bisexual, meaning that he is attracted to both sexes. As Alfred Kinsey believed sexuality was fluid and your sexual orientation didn't always coincide with the particular notions of heterosexuality and homosexuality. It is also possible that Damien is a homosexual, meaning he is attracted to the same sex, but was hiding it and using Mary as his "beard". Essay On Why Does The Us Need A New War On Poverty Poverty is when a person is almost at the stage of being poor to where they can hardly take care of themselves and can hardly depend on becoming successful. The condition of poverty is when people don't have any money to pay for food, clothing and their shelter is not being met. The U.S. needs a new war on poverty. One reason why the U.S. needs a new war on poverty is because people all around the world who are less fortunate need more income to take care of themselves and their families. For example, children live in unsafe neighborhoods, hardly attending to school. According to Martha J. Bailey "Poor children live in more–dangerous neighborhoods and attend underperforming schools" (Bailey ). This means that children hardly like to attend at school because of their family is struggling. Another reason why the U.S. needs a new war on poverty is because America could get a chance of getting more income at a higher level in the century. However, it can be clearly seen that we should have a new war on poverty because even if people work full time most people can also be living in poverty because of all of things that they would have to take care of things, pay things and they also have families to take care of which adds up and money will always be needed and not many people with full time jobs always can keep money because they have to spend it on useful things. • 102. Death Penalties Throughout History For ages, humans have been ending the lives of others in the name of morality and lawfulness, the reparation for an infraction of adequate proportions. One person breaks a law or commonly agreed upon ideal and society proceeds to put the perpetrator to death. Ancient civilizations to modern day people have implemented the death penalty to ensure the well–being, and sometimes discipline, of societies around the globe. The first official legal use of the death penalty dates back to the eighteenth century B.C. in the Code of King Hammurabi of Babylon. Here the King noted 25 crimes to be punishable by death. In seventh century B.C. Greece, the Draconian Code of Athens established death as the only penalty to be dealt for all crimes. The death ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nobody can dispute the advantage of saving millions for the state and its assets. While those against capital punishment have compelling evidence and argument against the death penalty, the opposition also exhibits an interesting and moving persuasion. One thing that unfortunately holds true is that violence is a menacingly effective method of problem solving. Brute force, when applied in moderation can conclude conflicts almost instantly. Even the U.S. was founded upon the blood of patriots who fought for the end of tyranny. In this instance, the violence of killing a convicted person is, ironically, a means to discourage violent and nationally endangering crimes in the United States. Unfortunately, this is still sometimes overlooked by would–be criminals. The death penalty also serves another role in American society; justice. The human psyche often times offers humans a sense of righteousness and closure when those who have done wrong receive harsh or equal treatment for their crimes. Humans do not want to see a person getting away with breaking the rules, legal or social, and, unfortunately blood for blood is an all too common mindset in today's society. Congruently, humans retain a primal desire for bloodshed, and execution is a great provider for such morbid entertainment. In the past and even into the modern times, executions have been made public for all to see. Nowhere else in our civilized nations can people witness death up close ... • 106. Male Sexual Orientation Is Connected with Genes A recent study has found proof that male sexual orientation is connected with genes. "Scientists tested the DNA of 400 gay men and found that genes on at least two chromosomes affected whether a man was gay or straight" (Sample 1). A specific part of the X chromosome called Xq28 had some influence on men's sexual behavior. However scientists have not found concrete fundaments as to which of these number of genes in the region are involved in the determination of men sexual preference, or the number that lie in other sites within the genome. Researchers have said before how genes intertwined with men homosexuality may have endured evolution because they happened to make women who carried them more fertile. This could be the case for genes in the Xq28 region, as the X chromosome is passed down to men exclusively from their mothers (Sample 2). A scientist at the US national cancer institute, investigated the family histories of around a hundred gay men and found homosexuality was very likely and prone to be inherited. This study came up with the results that more than ten percent of brothers of gay men were gay themselves, in comparison to approximately three percent of overall inhabitants. On the other hand, uncles and male cousins on the mother's side of the family led Hammer to have a closer look at the X chromosome. After arduous and continuous studies, he came with these results, he found that thirty–three out of forty–four homosexual brothers inherited alike genetic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

By the winter of 1838, Ellen became pregnant and pleaded with Gonzalve to let her return to America to give birth to her child. Therefore, the emergence of divisive new ideas indicated a progressive movement towards greater maternal rights was underway. Analyzing the case of Abigail and Asa Bailey aids in understanding this drastic change in public opinion. In 1792, Abigail Bailey was quickly granted a divorce from Asa Bailey. However, Abigail waited twenty–two years to file this petition for divorce, as Asa first had an affair just three years after their marriage in 1770. It is interesting to compare Abigail's case to Ellen's because in both cases, each woman repeatedly cites her hesitation to take legal action because of what she believes to be her duty to her husband. However, what is considered cruel enough to justify breaking that duty and separating from their husbands drastically differs. Abigail waited through multiple affairs and the sexual assault of her own daughter before beginning the legal process. Meanwhile, Ellen sought legal action after what she cited to be mental cruelty. In just half a century, a major shift in public opinion occurred. The question then arises: what caused this shift to occur? (Brewer, 2006, p. 1)" Ethical disagreements within a religious culture sometimes become sharp enough to cut it into pieces. Hindu Vedic rituals required animal sacrifice, which Jains considered immoral (Molloy, p. 193). Instead of having blood on their hands, Jains preferred to practice a peaceful coexistence with all living beings. Thus, the Jain symbol of the right–hand reminds people to stop and think about the right course of action. Written in the palm of this symbol is the word "ahimsa" or non–violence (Daryapurkar, 2008, p. 1). Jains instead focus their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Where Hindu belief is that all of us are a part of Brahman, Jainism holds to the view that everyone and everything is a separate and distinct jiva or consciousness. Jains have a very interesting system of classifying souls based on the level of conscious awareness. This classification begins with many things that non–Jains regard as either inorganic or vegetation. Steven Lalwani explains that they classify these "things" as having the sense of touch and then move upward through the senses, creating a new category based on the number of senses the soul has. The highest of these are beings with five senses like humans. This emphasis on individuality seems to inspire Jains to have the utmost respect for all life and even things like rocks and streams. Jains view each of these souls as eternally independent. As such, the soul is responsible for what it does and experiences the consequences of its actions. This sort of personal accountability seems to reinforce the Jain's high notions of morals and ethics and guide the varying principles of behavior as to avoid karma (Jainism Beliefs, 2011, p. 2). Due to the differing way Jains view and understand the soul, by extension they also have dissimilarities from the Hindu on how karma affects such. The honor of being human leads Jains to focus their actions on pure thoughts and deed so that, like the Hindu, they may achieve the ultimate goal of moksha or freedom (Molloy, p. 197). ... Representations Of Religion And Western Media Representations of Religion in Western Media Islam There is a current obsession in western media, (during the last decade) pertaining to "Islam and the West". This current obsession is filled with negative signifiers with the global media's predominantly negative, and to an extent racist portrayal of Islam and Muslims. Muslims are generally represented as violent, fanatical, bigoted, or as extremists and terrorists. Media coverage of Islam–related issues has changed drastically since the start of the new millennium, both in quantity and quality. The events the of September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, cast Islam into the forefront of global media: not only did coverage of Islam rapidly increase, particularly in news and entertainment media, but the way in which Islam was represented by the media changed as well. The most prevalent Islamic stereotype in western media is the radicalized Muslim insurgent, firm on waging jihad, or holy war, against the Western world. This stereotype usually depicts violence as an inseparable part of being Muslim, as well as the religion being a justifier for the violent actions. An example of this kind of a negative stereotype can be seen in the character of Sayid Jarrah on ABC's LOST. Jarrah, the only central Muslim character on the show, previously worked for the Iraqi Republican Guard as a communications officer and interrogator, and is frequently shown using torture techniques to extract information from prisoners. ... Gay marriage has been and is continuing to be a hot–button issue in America for some time now in which both sides have strong and passionate support. To say the least hysteria and outrage has ensued leading to discrimination against a whole community of people. Questions like "Is homosexuality genetically caused or is it by choice?" have been one of the main debating points. Everyone has an opinion on this question but few valid scientific answers have been provided but this could start to change rather quickly. According to new scientific studies there is a growing amount of evidence that being gay is not by choice but is predetermined by our DNA. A psychologist at Northwestern University named J. Michael Bailey conducted an experiment on families with at least a pair of gay brothers. This experiment was able to recruit 409 pairs of gay brothers and to the surprise of Bailey and his team it found that there were linkages in two parts of the DNA linking to sexuality (Servick NP). This is one study that shows strong evidence leaning towards the argument that being gay is not by choice but is genetically predetermined. While discrimination towards homosexuals isn't nearly as severe and blatantly open like it was towards the African American community before the Civil Rights Movement is it not the same issue.
