2. 1. Would you rather buy a magazine once a month or
once a week?
The majority of my audience would rather buy a
magazine once a month than once a week. This allows for
the magazine to be of a higher quality with more
contents.
3. 2. Would you prefer a male or female model on the
front cover?
More people in my research wanted a
female model on my cover than a male
model. This is better for the magazine I had
planned initially as I wanted it to be more
aimed at females anyway.
4. 3. Would you rather pay less for a lower quality or pay
more for a higher quality magazine with more in
depth articles?
The majority of people agreed they would rather pay more for a
higher quality magazine with better articles, however three people
said they would rather pay less.
5. 4. What type of articles would you like to see…:
(tick where appropriate)
Lifestyle - 9
Tour dates - 9
Album reviews - 14
Interviews - 16
‘Where are they now? - 7’
Concert reviews - 11
Expose - 4
Products (fashion, music, downloads) - 14
6. 5. What would you like to see in a feature article?
Interviews - 4
Bands - 4
Music - 1
Life Outside Music - 1
Culture - 2
Current Events - 2
Humor - 2
Concert Reviews - 1
Life Stories - 3
I am now certain I would like to interview an
upcoming band for my double page spread. I
would also do a smaller section on reviews of
their music/concerts as this also appears to
appeal to my target audience.
7. 6. What is your opinion on bad language featured in a
magazine?
The results of this question have put me off of using a
lot of bad language although a lot of the audience
says its fine and one person even said it makes the
magazine more relatable for a teenage audience. I
would use some if it was in a quote from an interview
or a song but I wouldn’t want an excessive usage.
8. 7. What costumes/make up would you like to
see?
Seasonal - 2
Natural - 3
Professional - 3
Affordable - 4
Wild/Bold - 5
No Preference - 3
10. 9. What articles would you like to see?
Once I read through my results I realized that this was a
more open version, but basically the same question as
question four. Many of the results were the same.
11. 10. What sexuality do you want to see portrayed
and is there any that would offend you?
Everybody that answered this question agreed that any and
all sexualities should be portrayed and nobody said that any
sexualities would offend them.
12. 11. Do you go to concerts/gigs?
This tells me that a lot of my audience would
be interested in information about concert
reviews, upcoming tour dates and even
vouchers or presale tickets for concerts. Even
including these could encourage those who
do not attend concerts to do so.
13. 12. Do you download music online or prefer
physical copies?
(18. Would a free CD/download encourage you
to buy a magazine? - 18/20 said yes)
Online - 50%
Physical - 1%
Both - 49%
From my target audience research I have found that half of the
audience preferred online downloads while almost all of the other
half liked both online and physical copies. To cater to all of the
audience I will probably include a free download and include a
chance to win a CD or even a money off voucher for a CD. 18 out of
20 people I asked also said free music would encourage them to buy a
magazine.
14. 13. What colours would appeal to you?
Any - 1
Bright - 2
Black - 9
Harmonious - 1
Red - 5
Blue - 4
Yellow - 2
Green - 3
White - 4
Grey - 2
Contrasting - 1
Orange - 2
Gold - 1
Purple - 1
15. 14. What do you like to see on magazine front
covers?
From this research I have identified that
my target audience would like to see...
photos (5), bands (4), the contents
included inside the magazine (7),
famous people (4), free space (1),
instruments (1) and price (2).. On the
front cover of my magazine.
16. 15. Do adverts in magazines annoy you? If not,
which type of adverts would you like to see?
Yes They Annoy Me - 11
Cosmetic Adverts - 6
Film and Music Adverts - 3
If I am to include any articles at all after many
of my audience voiced their dislike for them I
would keep them small and simple and
ensure the product displayed was relevant to
the target audience.
17. 16. Is there any type of article you would find
offensive?
The most common answers to this question were ones
which were to be expected e.g. racist, homophobic, sexist
or articles of a sexual nature. There was one answer which
stated articles based on people who they personally found
offensive (examples given were Donald Trump and Meghan
Trainor) as some peoples views and ideas can be considered
offensive so any content included in a magazine should be
criticized and censored before publishing which is what I
shall do with my magazine.
18. 17. Does a particular artist/band make you want
to buy a magazine?
Out of the 20 people I asked to participate in my
research, 16 of them agreed that a particular band or
artist would encourage them to buy a magazine. Some
examples of the ones which would attract them are...
One Direction, Ed Sheeran, The 1975, Bring Me The
Horizon and Taylor Swift. The only band from this list I
could use is Bring Me The Horizon as this is the only
band which falls within my chosen genre.
19. 19. Would a money off voucher make you want
to buy a magazine?
Yes - 14
No - 6
The majority of people nowadays shop online as shown in my
magazine and so I thought I could include an online shopping
voucher or a free delivery voucher for a popular online shop as
in question 19 it is said that many people would want a money
off voucher in a magazine and that it would even make them
buy a magazine.
Yes - 13
No - 7
20. Do you shop online?
