2. Stereotypes
One of the main things to look out for when looking at how
gender is represented within a TV drama is whether it
sticks with its usual stereotype or contradicts it.
Your stereotypical Male would be :
 Tall
 Attractive
 Strong
 Confident/Brave
 Smart
 Not very sociable
 Defensive
 Wears more dark colours

3. Your stereotypical Female would be :
 Attractive
 Pretty
 Intelligent – more than men
 Social/friendly
 Caring
 Confident but not as confident as the male.
 Wears dresses and pretty/bright colours
 Small or medium height.
Some people believe that stereotypes are socially
constructed but can be challenged or even changed
through the media and representation.

The start of the scene of this video clip we see
the perfect example of stereotypical male and
female.
We know this because the two woman are very
dressed up and are really making that effort
with one another. Remembering facts about
their personal life and showing a sense of
friendship. Also giving eachother a kiss on
the cheek to say hi.

On the other hand the men are making an effort but
clearly not as much as the women as they have a
quick shake of the hand and then one man gets a
fact wrong about the other man showing he hasn’t
listened well and got confused, stereotypical as men
are thought of to rarely listen and then get
important facts wrong. When one man asks the other
if he just graduated from canbridge university and
the other mans reply was “no that’s my sister” again
agreeing with my stereotype that girls are thought of
to be more intellegent than boys as we know that
canbridge is a very high up university in the UK.

As a class we all watched this clip from
primeval which was used in the 2010 exam
and the clip is based on gender.
As a class we discussed and came to the
conclusion that we can see that the woman
has bravery in her as the leopard is after
herself and the man but simply defends
herself by being secure and sheltered inside a
sort of tractor and just swings the metal box

7. around to git the leapord where as the man really
showed his confidence and braveness by telling
the leapord to come chase it to get it away from
the girl and also because in that short space of
time the man had come up with a plan to get rid
of it and stop it chasing her and the woman.
We see that the man is the hero here.
Therefore in this clip primevil are agreeing with
stereotypical characteristics of male and female.

8. Camera angles can tell a lot in TV dramas
when it comes to TV dramas. For example
certain shots can make it clear which sex is of
the higher power. Such as if it was a man
looking over a woman and the camera shot
looking up at him mimicking the woman's
view.
