U films are suitable for audiences aged 4 and over. They may contain brief fight scenes or kissing but no hardcore violence or sexual activity. PG films are suitable for all ages but younger children should consider if content may upset them. PG films can contain brief sexuality or violence. 12A/12 ratings mean that 12A films can be seen unaccompanied in cinemas while 12 ratings apply to home media which must be accompanied for those under 12. 15 and 18 ratings prohibit access to those below the age limits and contain increasingly strong language, violence, nudity and sex.

The U smybol stands for Universal. Which
means a U films are suitable for audience age

discriminatory language or behaviour unless it
is clearly disapproved of.
UP, Despicable Me 2, Ice age 4 and Monter
inc are good example of bbfc U' Films.

2. What does PG mean?
PG stands for parental Guidance, this means a film is suitable for any age but some scene
may be unsuitable for younger children. A 'PG' film should not disturb a cild aged around
eight or older. However, parents are adviced to consider whether the content may upset
youngers or sensitive children. PG films have some brief of sexuality activity or voielce. The
Odd Life of Timothy Green, The Lorax and the smurfs 2 are suitable PG films.

3. What does
12A/12 mean?
the difference between
12A/12 is that the 12A
category excist only for
cinema films and that
anyone aged twelve
and over can go see
the film
unaccompained. The 'A'
stands for
'accompained' and
'advisory' 12A movies
are not recommended
for children younger
than twelve but if
accompained they're
allowed to watch it.
However, the 12
category exists only for
videos, DVDs, and
BLU-rays.
Same rule applies for when renting/buying video games or DVDs.
Unlike 'U' and 'PG' movies. 12A range from the genre category. Romantic
(Dear John), Acton (Snitch), Fanasty (Man of Steel), Comdey (the internership)
These movies are still suitable for age 12 and over.

4. What does 15 mean?
No one younger than the age of 15 is allowed to see a '15' movie at the cinema or rent/ buy
rated '15' video work.
Most 15 rated movies could include the following:

•Strong Violenece (eg, blood)
•Sexual nudity (eg, bra taking off)
• Drug taking (eg, weed, cocaine)
•Discriminatory languae or behaviour (eg, racistiment)
