Judy And John ' The New Zealand
'Judy and John', the New Zealand
Woman's Weekly's ideal engaged couple, were preparing for married life and building a house in 1954.
Judy was the expert on 'the kitchen, the laundry, the decorating and the cleaning', and she was not to worry her head about the garden, the exterior, the
lighting or the roof, as these were John's concerns. Judy intended to work during the first two years of marriage 'so they can buy extras like the
refrigerator, washing machine, floor polisher, good radiogram and vacuum cleaner, in that order'.1
As Judy's expectations and aspirations show, cleaning routines occupied a considerable amount of women's time in the 1950s and 1960s.
Indeed, new products and applicances, as well as their greater availabilty, encouraged greater attention than ever to these chores. Consumer demand was
insatiable – though home scientist Norah Holland noted that women with young children demanded modern conveniences, while older women
sometimes thought that the purchase of new equipment was unnecessary.2 By 1949, New Zealand company Fisher & Paykel was producing 600
washing machines, 500 refrigerators and 700 vacuum cleaners each month, and struggled to fill orders.3 Demand was able to be satisfied only when
import controls were relaxed in 1953. For the next five years, the sale of household items boomed. Washing machines and refrigerators went from being
luxuries to items that were purchased at the same time as the house, with the costs of payment included on

An Analysis Of Laundrette, By Liz Lochhead
The human race is a species built by imagination and curiosity, which has helped some, but left many in the dust. Scottish poet Liz Lochhead explores
this concept in her poem "Laundrette" as well as in many of her other poems. Lochhead accesses the imagination of the reader in order for them to
recognise their instinctive curiosity and need to construct their own realities, which is achieved through her use of symbolism, literary devices, and
structure. Liz Lochhead presents this poem in an extremely symbolic nature, focussing on the more harsh and negative stereotypes of a laundrette and
its patrons, while also bringing the reader into the poem, thus causing them to reflect more on themselves. The reader is invited to some extent into the

For example, the dark "shoves" a man into the laundrette, which shows how the man is unhappy about entering the Laundrette, which the reader can
easily imagine. The reader then begins to ask themselves questions and visualise the reason why the man is visiting the laundrette, and why he is so
unhappy to be there. This innate curiosity which is alive in all people is, to some extent, what makes this poem so interesting. The personification of
the washing machine which "sobs" could represent the harsh and difficult lives which the patrons of the laundrette lead, thus the reader is left with
the mental image of a sad and aching machine, causing them to rethink their own lives. The phrase "our own colours whirl" can be both examined on
a literal level and a figurative level. On a literal level, this phrase describes clothes whirling around a washing machine, but on a figurative level could
also show that people are watching the other people, therefore the "colours" or personas of these occupants "whirl" together and blend with one
another, including different size, sex, race, and social

Observation of The Pub Essay
As I open the double glass doors at the Pub I am overwhelmed with all of
the noise. This place sounds more like a bar than a laundry mat. There is music playing,
beeping from the arcade games, a metal fan going, tumbling noises from the dryers, and
wet clothes being thrown around in the washers. I can barely keep my train of thought.
The humidity in the room made it very uncomfortable. The smell on the other hand is
great it smells so clean and warm. The room was filled with many different people.
There were college students, families, people that were by themselves, screaming babies
and a few senior citizens. The room is fairly large with dinghy white walls that have a
moldy green border running along ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is also a gigantic world atlas on the
wall that is only partly visible because of the three arcade games standing in its way.
Hanging from the ceiling there is a t.v monitor playing the news. In front of the arcade
games is a round wooden table accompanied by two dark green plastic chairs and a coke
machine with a faint buzz. To the right of the doors there is a large window that can
barely be seen out of. In front of the window is a green newspaper stand and ten red
twenty–five cent machines that contain an assortment of different candies and fake
jewelry. In the clutter of twenty five–cent machines stands a tall beige scale that claims
to be able to tell your fortune by your weight. Behind that mess is another round wooden
table surrounded by three more dark green lawn chairs. Sitting beside the table is a large
roaring metal fan. Hanging above the table is a surveillance camera an another t.v
monitor that displays what the camera picks up. In the center of the room there is a
muddle of noisy washing machines. In both the first and last rows are ten white washing
machines similar to household ones. Between the white washers are fourteen stainless
steel washing machines and a small lounge area. These washers are not similar to
household ones. They look like huge metal boxes and have a

Clean A Car Clean Car
If you own a car that is getting dirty you may be looking for a way to learn how to clean a car. Believe it or not, cleaning a car is actually a lot
easier than you might think. However, if you do not clean a car properly then you will not get the most out of the time that you spend cleaning
your car. Many people think that it is only important to clean the outside of a car. The fact of the matter is that it is important to clean both the
inside,or interior, as well as the outside of a car. To start off, you should clean the exterior of your car. It will help if you have a hose that you can use
to clean a car with because you 're going to need a lot of water. To start off, just spray down your car with a general spray of water. This will get you
started on your way to having a sparkling clean car. After you have sprayed your car down with water you are ready to move onto the next step of
cleaning your car. The next step of cleaning your car involves putting soap on your car. If youwant to, you can purchase automotive soap from your
local auto store. It is extremely important for you to spend at least five minutes covering your car entirely with soap. After your car is covered with
soap you can spray down your car with your hose. This will allow you to wash off any soap that may exist on your car. If you want to learn how to

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Hand Irons
Hand Iron
Hand irons are appropriate method of fusing where the interlinings could be fused at comparatively at low temperatures and pressures and in relatively
short time period. But only small components can be fused in this system (Fairhurst 2008; Cooklin 2006).
8.1.4.3 Steam Press
Regular steam pressing machines are not chosen for fusing even though some fusibles are produced for use on these machines. The main limitations of
pressing machines concerning fusing are:
Inability to reach the heat levels required by majority of resins
Shape and size of bucks limit size of components that can be fused
Most utility machines are not fitted with programme controls, which means entire process is operator controlled
If the resin is activated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

8.2.6 Types of pressing equipment
Solid surface pressing equipment uses a firm surface to apply pressure while steam and heat mould the fabric, garment or garment parts. Pressure may
be applied through rolling action, gliding action or compression (Holme 1999).
8.2.6.1 Hand Irons
For more than hundreds of years hand irons were heated on coal stoves. These methods were steadily replaced by gas heating. Steam was created by
lightly wetting the area to be pressed or by pressing through a dampened piece of linen. The most frequent but least productive ironing and pressing
equipment is the hand iron, which is suitable for performing a large number of operations in processing with heat and moisture (Holme 1999).
More sophisticated and more productive but less prevalent are ironing presses, which allows a considerable degree of mechanization and automation of
processing with heat and moisture. Fabrics are steamed to eliminate lustrous appearance which develops when ironing and pressing equipment is used.
The two basic types of irons used today

Clean Your Slacks Dry Cleaned Is Hell ! Essay
Having your slacks dry cleaned is hell! It takes days for them to be cleaned, you pay, on average, $4–$5 per slack, and on top of that you don 't always
get back what you give them. I don 't even want to talk about how poorly some dry cleaners handle your slacks.
Starting today, you 'll no longer have to deal with cleaners. You won 't have to be that person who spends a chunk of their salary every year just to
get their slacks back in poor conditions. Now, you can walk into your pantry and grab simple, everyday household items to make your slacks look as
though you just bought them from the store.
Before we walk through the steps necessary for you to clean your slacks, we'll first discuss the items you'll need. You'll need your slacks, baking soda,
vinegar, lemon juice, a bowl, a lathering brush, and laundry detergent. You'll also need a washing machine with a hand–wash setting, a hanger and/or
drying machine with an air–dry or air fluff setting, and a clothing iron that preferably has a steam producing function and a flat surface to use it on. If
you don 't have baking soda, vinegar, lemon juice, laundry detergent, a bowl, or a lathering brush, these items can be purchased at most grocery stores,
as well as some convenience stores for around $2–$6. A very basic clothing iron with a steam producing function can be bought from most chain
grocery stores or household appliance stores for around $10–$35. If you don 't have a washing machine and/ or a drying machine at your

The Negative Impact Of Technology In Education
During a time of great technological advancement, keeping a job has become difficult throughout the United States. Robots, computers, and other
machines are now able to perform human tasks, taking over many jobs. As economic concerns rose throughout America, former President Barack
Obama spoke about issue in his farewell address, stating that economic dislocations will result from the high rate of automation taking over
middle–class positions (Gillespie). This suggests that advancement in automation is causing job loss, which will hurt the economy of America. Because
the growth of technology is inevitable, it will undoubtedly affect future generations. Battling the negative effects and spreading the benefits of
automation starts with addressing the skills and qualities needed in the workforce. To help future generations battle automation effectively, there needs
to be changes within the educational system, teaching future students skills and emphasizing qualities that cannot be outdone or emulated by a machine.
Technology changed the way we learn, but it did not change what we learn. As technology advanced, the economy changed, with some jobs and skills
becoming obsolete. Ending automation starts with changing what it is we are learning. Education provides a background for the future of many students;
however, the information students are learning is not putting them in the right position to battle automation. In his article, "Companies Need to Pay to

Major Advancements Of The Iron During The 19th Century
An iron is a handheld implement with a heated flat metal base, used to remove creases and folds from fabric(Cambridge Dictionary, 2016). However,
this recognizable household appliance has undergone several significant advancements since its initial invention, which has been traced back to Europe
in the 1300s (Smoothing Iron, 2016). Three major advancements of the iron occurred in the 19th century which revolutionize the ironing process; the
Victorian Iron, Mrs Potts removable handle sadiron and the electric iron. Influenced by economic growth, societal expectations and technological and
scientific advancements the iron under went changes in form, meaning and purpose. The three major changes can be analysed to reveal what
influenced the change and the resulting impact on the user and user experience.
The starting point:
The Middle Ages saw the invention of the sadiron, a flat piece of iron which was heated then pressed on to clothing to remove creases. For several
centuries ironing process involved:
1. The iron was heated over a fire or on stove. Experience revealed when the iron was hot enough for use but not too hot to scold the clothing
2. A piece of fabric was place over the item of clothing to be ironed to ensure that the exposed metal did not leave a mark
3. Then the iron was pressed onto the item to remove any unwanted creases
The iron did not stay hot for very long and had to be continually reheated resulting in a laborious and extensive process to item just a

Advantages Of Recycling Washing Machine
13 Reasons to Recycle Your Washing Machine
Do you have a washing machine that is more than a decade old? Of the 76 million washing machines used in the country today, 25 million are at least
10 years old. The washing machines that were manufactured before 2003 are relatively less efficient than the ones produced now. All these inefficient
washing machines, together, cost users more than $2.9 billion in both energy and water.
You need to give up your old and used washing machine as it's inefficiency is costing you $180 in utility bills, every year! This is the most important
reason to recycle your washing machine

#7. Exchange for an energy efficient model
An energy efficient washing machine will help you save money on your utility bills. A new washing machine that comes with the ENERGY STAR
consumes 40 percent less water and close to 25 percent less energy compared to the old less efficient machines.
#8. Benefit the Local Charities
If your washing machine is still in a working condition, you can contact the Red Cross, faith communities or local women's shelters who will gladly
accept appliances that are workable. If your washing machine works well, then you can donate it to an underprivileged family. This is a good
alternative and your chance to make a donation, to pay it forward.
#9. Make Stylish Furniture
You can now re–purpose different parts of the washing machine and create unique and useful products for your home. You can create stools or lamps
from the washing machine drum. You can also create an outside fireplace with an inverted drum. With a paint job and some effort, salvage the drum as

No one can't meet a family like mine's. My family is well diversified. Every family member plays an important role in all my family's lives. In my
family, there are four people: my father, my mother, my little brother and me. My father is one who brings money home and is also responsible for
organizing and planning family trips. My mother is the one who is in charge for making meals and makes sure everyone eats at the appropriate times.
My little brother is the pet of the family. He actually doesn't have any responsibilities, for he's the pet. I am the rock of support in my family. I always

Doing what my parents tell me to do is just one of many reasons why I am a rock of support for my family. Not only do I support my parents, but I
also support my younger cousins and brother. As an eldest brother and cousin, I feel I must be a good example for the young ones. There are
numerous methods of showing my cousins and brother support. One main way is by providing advice on making the right choices. For example my
brother had a problem at school with one of his classmates. As a mature and responsible older brother, I advised him to use the non–violent approach. I
told him to go discuss the problem and try to resolve it peacefully. My brother then asked me why he shouldn't fight his classmate. I explained how
violence is the answer to anything. I advised him to first talk to his classmate in a professional manner. If then things get out of hand, I told him to
let the teacher know the situation. In the end, my brother didn't need to get the teacher involved. In fact, their conflict was resolved by talking
through with each other. I also am very supportive of my little cousins. One way I help them out is by tutoring them once in a while. They come
over to my house and I assist them with their school work. Not only I help my cousins with their homework, but I also support them recreationally. I
play various sports and activities with them. As their older cousin/brother, I feel I should be a good role model to follow. I am also known for being there

Descriptive Essay On My House
There is one thing that is common in most small, rural Southern towns; appliances on the porch. From deep–freezers to washing machines, if there's not
room in the house you can guarantee there is room on the porch and an extension cord long enough to plug it in. No one thinks it's unusual as everyone
in the neighborhood does it. That's especially true for the humble, one–stop–light town I was brought up in. The house I lived in my entire childhood
had a deep–freezer on the back porch; my second cousin, who lived next door, had a wringer washing machine on her front porch. That washing
machine would lead to an incident involving a shotgun, scissors, a trip to the ER and a lifetime of jokes.
One beautiful late summer day, I was at my cousin's house. We were both 10 years–old so we often roamed our countrified neighborhood together.
We'd ride bikes up and down the road, explore the woods behind our houses and go swimming in the local swimming hole; affectionately called the
Cold Hole by the locals. However, this day, we were at her house enjoying the temperate weather and glasses of chilled sweet tea while waiting for
dinnertime.
My cousin's mom (my first cousin) was in love with this old wringer washing machine. She used it all the time and refused to buy anything newer. We
had been cautioned several times to stay away from the wringers, as it could "eat" our fingers or hands. Unlike most 10–year–olds, we listened to this
rule. Except for today.
Now I couldn't tell you what

What I Want About Washing Clothes
We all do it; it just depends on how and where. I 'm talking about washing clothes. You do it yourself at home, go to a Laundromat or have them
professional cleaned. One way or the other it has to be done because we like to look and smell good. I wash my clothes at home on a weekly basis.
I do this so that I can take my time and pace myself because, washing clothes is very time consuming. The tricky part of it is that your way may not
be my way, but since this is my story, it 's my way, so here we go. WE start first with the products. We have to make sure we have all the products
we need. We need dirty clothes of course, detergent, fabric softener, bleach, dryer sheets, spray & wash, a basket, water and of course a good
washing machine. These are the main products that are used in washing, but like I said this is my way, so we are going to element some of
things. I have eczema which means my skin is very sensitive, so we will element the fabric softener. Once, we get all of our products we are ready
to start the process. The first thing is gathering all of the dirty clothes. Most dirty clothes will be found in the hamper, but like I said, my story. We
will find clothes on the floor, under the bed, bottom of the closet, draped over a chair, or just about anywhere, but very few in the hamper. Take all
the clothes and dump them in one big pile. Next we will separate by color. We will have light, dark and white color piles. Just to make matters a little

Ten Care Tips
Ten Care Tips for Your T
–Shirt Creations
You invested your time, your sweat, and your tears into creating the perfect t–shirt creation. It doesn't matter if it's a tie–dye creation or a silkscreened
masterpiece, you want it to last. Sadly, t–shirts are susceptible to fading, shrinking, cracking, graphic loss, etc. When you wear your shirts, the sun, the
sweat, and other elements speed the deterioration of your tee. Further, the way you wash, dry and store your shirt plays a huge part in the life of your
prized possession.
Thankfully, there are some things you can do to preserve your tee and lengthen its lifespan. Consider these ten care tips:
1. The safest way to wash your shirt is by hand in cold water. This isn't always a practical... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
T–shirts that are not worn often should not be hung on a hanger. They should be folded and stored in a box or container. Plastic sleeves are another
way to keep your shirts looking their best. At very least, they should be folded and kept on your shelf or in a dresser drawer.
9. Make a T–shirt Folder. An ally in the fight to protect your shirts is the proper fold. You don't want to run creases through your artwork. A shirt
folder is a great way to quickly fold your shirts in a proper manner. A folder can be purchased or made for a matter of cents from common household
materials (six pieces of 9x12 cardboard and a roll of duct tape). While cereal boxes are a little thin, they are the right size.
Place the rectangles three wide by two deep about a quarter inch apart. Connect the panels with the duct tape on the front and the back. The quarter
inch of duct tape between the panels will act like hinges, so make sure they are pressed together well. The folder is now complete.
Lay your shirt face down on the folder vertically with the neck to the top. Fold the right two panels to the center. Leave the shirt, but pull the panels
back. Repeat this move on the left. Fold the panel in the center bottom up toward the top. You now have a perfectly folded

The Government 's Energy Star Program
EFFICIENT WASHING MACHINES
INTRODUCTION
The federal government's energy star program was established in 1992 by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). This program is voluntary and
started in order to save businesses and families save money. This program has many companies investing in energy efficient projects to help boost the
market. While promoting these products, the energy star program also helps to reduce energy consumption and pollution. Along with saving energy, it
helps to reduce greenhouse gases. Reducing the greenhouse gases contributes to the health of individuals and the environment surrounding them. This
will hopefully control the climate changes brought on by the emission of such gases and strengthen our economy (Energy Star, 2014).
BODY
High efficiency washing machines help families cut energy and water costs (Energy Star, 2014). These machines are front or top loading with a
larger tub capacity. Families are able to wash fewer loads which enables them to use less water. Companies continue working on their models to save
more money. Washers made after 2003 are more efficient. If your washer is more than ten years old, you should look into purchasing a newer model
(Energy Star, 2014). Washing machines did not earn the Energy Star label until 1997 (Mother Earth News, 2010). When comparing the how much
energy the models use, you need to look at the yellow EnergyGuide label. This tells you how much energy each load oflaundry uses and the

Autumn had just begun. Once vibrant green, now crispy orange and brown leaves gently floated down from the towering trees. The golden yellow
school bus came to a quick halt. About five kids stood up and got off. Then, the bus started to move again. My stop was next, but it took about five
minutes from this stop to get there. The bus was empty except for me and the driver, Mrs Wendy. It had a strong smell of body odor. I unzipped my
backpack and grabbed a small, pink bottle of perfume and spritzed it a couple of times. Finally, the bus stopped once more. I stood up and walked
down the aisle. Sticky, already chewed gum was stuck to the floor and food wrappers just sat there, motionless. The buses doors opened and the
wrappers blew towards the back of the bus.
"Thank you." I told Mrs. Wendy. She nodded as I hopped off the bus. My house was about two houses away from my bus stop so I started to walk. I
always stare at the neighboring houses and see all the leaves in ginormous pil es and black garbage bags.
"Nellie! How was school?" A voice shouted. It was Mr Castro, the friendly old man who lived across the street from me. He always took the time to ask
me how my day was.
"My day was fine. The same thing every day. How was yours?" I asked him. He just looked at me and sighed.
"Well, I have just been raking leaves and carving pumpkins, you know, with Halloween coming so soon. I guess you could say my day was a bit
tiring." Mr Castro bent down and picked up a rake and laid

Differences Of The Washwoman And Annie Johnson
The washwoman and Annie Johnson were alike in many ways but also had some differences. While both were extremely hard workers, their lives went
in different directions. Both faced various controversies with differing outcomes in their lives. The washwoman was a very determined person. She did
laundry for a living. No matter what the washwoman always brought the laundry back to the family she got it from. Even when she was laying on her
deathbed she said that the wash would not let her die. The washwoman walked a hour and a half to pick up the laundry and then carried it on her back
all the way back to her house. The washwoman faced many hardships but she pushed through them because she was determined to get the laundry back
to the owners.

Effects Of Industrialization
After the civil war, the United States took steps to become a more industrialized country. They wanted to become more progressive and "many people
viewed this economic growth as evidence of the superiority of the American system". The effects industrialization can be seen throughout history
between 1865 and 1914. Industrialization improved the American way of life but also created many problems for them. The Industrialization
transformed humanity's struggle with material scarcity to expand the production of goods and services. The percentage of 17 year old high school
graduates who graduated with a diploma continued to rise from 1870 to 1910. In 1870, 2% of 17–year–olds graduated by in 1870 but in 1910, 9% of the

There were long working hours with small pay and extremely dangerous working conditions. Stephen Crane writes in In the Depths of a Coal
Mine in August 1894 that "It has only to tighten slightly, and he is crushed like a bug....There is an insidious, silent enemy in the gas. If the huge
fan wheel on the top of the earth should stop for a brief period, there is certain death....Meanwhile the miner gets three dollars per day, and his
laborer one dollar and a quarter." Here Crane is only describing the working life of a coal miner. He discusses how dangerous the job is and how
low the pay is. There were no safety precautions and no safety gear or protection at all. If one small thing went wrong, you had a likely chance of
dying. Many important inventions were being invented at this time which had a profound impact of the modern life. Thomas Edison invented over
1,000 inventions throughout his life. One of the most important and well–known inventions that changed the American way of life was the phonograph
in 1877. The phonograph was a machine with two needles: one needle was for recording sounds and the other was for the playback. When Edison
would speak into the mouthpiece, the sound vibrations of his voice would be "indented onto the cylinder by the recording needle" (http:/
/www.americaslibrary.gov/aa/edison/aa_edison_phonograph_1.html). It was made to give entertainment for the people by providing a way of listening
to music. The phonograph

Technology And Technology Essay
Assignment 5 Writing When it comes to the topic of technology, most of us will readily agree that as one of the major innovations of our society, it is
a necessity to everyday life. Where this agreement ends, however, is on the questions regarding how technology influences writing: Do these
technologies make it easier for you to join conversations? Do they improve or degrade your thinking and writing? Whereas some are convinced that
digital communication is making us dumber in terms of writing due to quality of information and conversations, others maintain that digital
communication is making us smarter because information and conversations are instantaneous. Gerald Graff and Cathy Birkenstein, the authors of
"They Say/I Say": The moves that matter in Academic Writing, contend that digital communication is neither improving or degrading writing. Having
thousands of resources at our fingertips how can technology be making us dumber? Critics say that technology provides us with an overwhelming
amount of information where there is a less chance of finding relevant, helpful information, and often times Wikipedia is the first choice for
information. The internet has many unreliable sites and information causing it to be challenging to find credible information. The quality of
conversations is also lost as texting and social media causing writing to deteriorate as poor writing habits are put into use, for example, abbreviations.
Also, writing is often not revised as it does

Creative Writing : My Life
Despite the speed demons driving, I had a great time with my new friends. We spent some time walking around the mall, stopped for lunch, and
headed back home. John wanted me to go back to his apartment, yet I felt too uncomfortable being alone with him in his domain. "Thank you,
once again for taking me," I say as I exit the car. "Thanks for coming out with us," says Patsy. This time, I wait by the building door and wave them
goodbye before heading inside. As I skip my way up the stairs, ready to tell Alice about my day, my phone shrills, stopping me just before my front
door to retrieve it. "Hey, Alice." "Hi Eva, I'm just calling to let you know I won't be home tonight." "Oh, okay." She begins giggling. "Stop it," she

I need to leave, somewhat regretting John's invitation. Then again, despite my rage, I could do without his lingering gazes, considering I'm far from
ready to attempt a relationship with anyone right now, what with my wretched heart set on Angelo. Inside my bedroom, I remove my winter
accessories and leather coat, leaving them on the bed beside my bag and phone, and peer into my washing basket. There isn't much in there, not
enough for a full load, nevertheless, it will take my mind off of Alice and Angelo for a while. I heft my washing basket and head down to the
basement where the washers and dryers live. No one knows who began the rule, nevertheless, the unwritten rule is for everyone in the building to add
money to the kitty for the machine's service and purchase of the washing powder and dryer sheets. I plunge my hand into my jeans pocket and drag out
the loose change hidden within. Seventy–one cents, not much, but at least it's something. The basement is cold and dimly lit, appearing just as
neglected as the rest of the building. Cobwebs hang in the corners and on the light fixture, and a thin layer of dust has settled on top of the machines.
Three washing machines and three dryers line one of the walls with four white plastic garden chairs placed in front of them, one holds a little stack of
magazines. The large box of washing powder sits on top of the end washing machine, and next to that is

The Murder Of The United Colonies Of America
Hello. I am supposed to be dead, I am not and I have no idea why. I woke up in a hotel room without any memory. Then I looked at a television and
almost had a heart attack. I was wanted for murder. The murder of the President of the United Colonies of America(UCA. That also includes The
United States). He was giving a speech and was shot by a sniper. Me.
Apparently, when they saw where the bullet came from, they rushed to check it out and they saw an M24 on the ground. It had three bullets missing
and my fingerprints all over it. They said it could only be a trained hitman or a UCA Marine. They say I was both.
I can't remember anything, not even my name. But I have two memories. One was being thrown from an F2 tornado. It threw me about a mile. I was
lucky that I landed on my right arm. I'm left handed. I had been taken to the hospital and they had me drink a serum that healed my bone completely.
The other was that I have a twin. We're both boys. You have no idea how many times we've impersonated each other.
Okay. Now back to the present. I sat up and walked around. I was on a hotel room bed. There was a desk on the right of the bed. On the desk was a
laptop. It was a X3S90. The X3S90 laptop is made to look like a briefcase. There was a laptop bag next to the desk(I don't know why). There is also a
black backpack. I assumed it was mine. On my right, there was the bathroom, a closet and the door. There was also a big refrigerator next to the closet

Bodies, Machines, and Male Power by M. Carme Alemany Gomez
I chose to write my reflection paper on reading number twenty–two "Bodies, Machines, and Male Power." This chapter is written by M. Carme
Alemany Gomez. This article talks about washing machines, and how most people only think the value of a washing machine is cleanliness. This
article shows that there are diverse ways in which how gender and class, affect the design, operation, and construction of washing machines in Spain.
Also how technology reinforced these relationships. They talk about the process of washing clothes when males designed the machines. Women had
to learn the very movements that she must do repeatedly while using the machine. If women were given a voice during the beginning stages
perhaps the technology would have been designed differently. When someone is designing or building a technology, they make decisions about
some details that affect the users. As we all know the washing machine has been around for quite some time. The models we see today have taken at
least 40 years of work and changes to get to where they are today. This study is approached by three theories they expected to see class and gender
relations in the life of a machine. Second they drew off a Chinese tradition of thought. Third gender relations were saw as "a set of power relationships
that not only involve the construction of values, but also constitute a process of bodily submission, as evidence in postures, gestures and movements"
(Gomez Pg. 390). According to the most recent

What I Save Money While Doing Laundry Essay
With three kids under 10 in the house, and a husband who works two jobs, laundry is an never–ending, on–going chore. Every time I turn around I
think the laundry has doubled. This is especially true in the summertime when the kids go out to the pool a few hundred times a day. While laundry
can be a daunting task, it can also be a costly task. Here are a few ways I save money while doing laundry: 1. I buy name brand detergent that is on sale
and I have a coupon for it. It is my personal opinion from my own observation that the cheaper stuff just doesn 't do as good of a job as the
name–brand stuff. By checking the sales ads I can usually find Wisk, Gain, or even Tide on sale. CVS usually runs Buy One Get One Free sales on
these items. I use two coupons and get a great deal. I try to never spend more than $2.50 per bottle or box for name brand detergent. 2. Use the cap
or the scoop that comes with the detergent appropriately. Notice that there are littles lines or notches on the cup or scoop with a number. These
lines indicate the load size of the laundry you are doing. For many, many people they just assume that 1 load= 1 full cup of detergent. Use the
appropriate amount of soap per load, don 't just dump a full cup in there blindly. 3. I actually use 1/2 of the recommended amount from the detergent
cup. If I have a small load, I fill up the cup 1/2 of the way to line 1. If I have a medium load, I fill up to the 1 line. I never, ever use more than 1/2 of
the cup for even

Two Poems About City Life by Liz Lochead
Two poems about city life by Liz Lochead
Liz Lochead has written two poems about city life, one being Laundrette which is set in an area of Bristol which is full of bedsits, meant for students
just renting. The other poem is George Square which is set in the business district in Glasgow. As the first poem mentioned, Laundrette has a subtle
start as it says 'We sit nebulous in steam' (nebulous meaning hazy or vague). You could almost have a debate on all the possible places that you 'sit
nebulous in steam'. Through the whole of laundrette it never uses the word laundrette except of course in the title. Quite on the opposite, George
Square starts off straight and plain by saying 'George Square'. This throws the location to a square in a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When saying 'sitting separate' the poet puts 'sitting' and 'separate' on different lines to emphasise the importance of the words being separate. Straight
after that she puts 'close together' on the same line to say that they're close together.
Both poems have metaphors in, George Square uses 'incurable as cancer' as quite a shocking metaphor to describe how we can't get rid of flowers and
weeds in the city no matter how hard we try.
Laundrette has a few more metaphors. It has 'our eyes are riveted' to describe how we just stand or sit and stare intently at the washing machine as if
were expecting something to happen to our clothes. Another metaphor is 'the dark shoves one man in' which uses personification to show how
someone, randomly wandering around comes into the laundrette to get away from the dark.
A good metaphor is 'tee shirts skinned from her wriggling son' meaning how a mother had too pull the tee shirts off her son who was probably
screaming, shouting and trying to get away. One metaphor, talking about the same person is 'she sees a kaleidoscope' saying about how all the
multicoloured clothes go whirring around the washing machine very much like a kaleidoscope.
'Half lost, his small possessions swim' describes how there is a 'dour' man with hardly any clothes at all to wash so the washing machine isn't full,
creating the image of his clothes swimming around in all the masses of water looking 'half lost'. The last metaphor is a rather long one, still

`` This Is Water `` By David Foster Wallace
We are all selfish no matter how hard we try to deny it. I learned this by listening to the speech "This is Water", by David Foster Wallace. In the
speech, Wallace discusses that if we actually think about what we think about, then we can make our lives better. He also talks about how the exact
same experience means two different things to two different people based on their beliefs. Another thing he talks about is that we are all self–centered
and tend to interpret life just thinking about ourselves. I completely agree with Wallace's ideas of people being self–centered and also that people give
different meanings to the exact same thing, because they make sense and also because that is how we all think, but no one wants to accept it. In
Wallace's speech, he says that, "It's a matter of choosing to do the work of somehow altering or getting free of my natural, hard wired default setting
which is to be deeply and literally self–centered and to see and interpret life through this lens of self" (Wallace 3). What Wallace means in this quote is
that our default setting is to think about ourselves without even thinking twice about it, and that we are the absolute center of the universe. Wallace
first makes this statement in section two of the speech, but he keeps talking about this idea throughout the entire speech. He believes that it is hard for
people to stop thinking only about themselves, but rather think of other people, and be more aware of the choices we make. I agree

  • 3. Judy And John ' The New Zealand 'Judy and John', the New Zealand Woman's Weekly's ideal engaged couple, were preparing for married life and building a house in 1954. Judy was the expert on 'the kitchen, the laundry, the decorating and the cleaning', and she was not to worry her head about the garden, the exterior, the lighting or the roof, as these were John's concerns. Judy intended to work during the first two years of marriage 'so they can buy extras like the refrigerator, washing machine, floor polisher, good radiogram and vacuum cleaner, in that order'.1 As Judy's expectations and aspirations show, cleaning routines occupied a considerable amount of women's time in the 1950s and 1960s. Indeed, new products and applicances, as well as their greater availabilty, encouraged greater attention than ever to these chores. Consumer demand was insatiable – though home scientist Norah Holland noted that women with young children demanded modern conveniences, while older women sometimes thought that the purchase of new equipment was unnecessary.2 By 1949, New Zealand company Fisher & Paykel was producing 600 washing machines, 500 refrigerators and 700 vacuum cleaners each month, and struggled to fill orders.3 Demand was able to be satisfied only when import controls were relaxed in 1953. For the next five years, the sale of household items boomed. Washing machines and refrigerators went from being luxuries to items that were purchased at the same time as the house, with the costs of payment included on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. An Analysis Of Laundrette, By Liz Lochhead The human race is a species built by imagination and curiosity, which has helped some, but left many in the dust. Scottish poet Liz Lochhead explores this concept in her poem "Laundrette" as well as in many of her other poems. Lochhead accesses the imagination of the reader in order for them to recognise their instinctive curiosity and need to construct their own realities, which is achieved through her use of symbolism, literary devices, and structure. Liz Lochhead presents this poem in an extremely symbolic nature, focussing on the more harsh and negative stereotypes of a laundrette and its patrons, while also bringing the reader into the poem, thus causing them to reflect more on themselves. The reader is invited to some extent into the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, the dark "shoves" a man into the laundrette, which shows how the man is unhappy about entering the Laundrette, which the reader can easily imagine. The reader then begins to ask themselves questions and visualise the reason why the man is visiting the laundrette, and why he is so unhappy to be there. This innate curiosity which is alive in all people is, to some extent, what makes this poem so interesting. The personification of the washing machine which "sobs" could represent the harsh and difficult lives which the patrons of the laundrette lead, thus the reader is left with the mental image of a sad and aching machine, causing them to rethink their own lives. The phrase "our own colours whirl" can be both examined on a literal level and a figurative level. On a literal level, this phrase describes clothes whirling around a washing machine, but on a figurative level could also show that people are watching the other people, therefore the "colours" or personas of these occupants "whirl" together and blend with one another, including different size, sex, race, and social ... There is music playing, beeping from the arcade games, a metal fan going, tumbling noises from the dryers, and wet clothes being thrown around in the washers. I can barely keep my train of thought. The humidity in the room made it very uncomfortable. The smell on the other hand is great it smells so clean and warm. The room was filled with many different people. There were college students, families, people that were by themselves, screaming babies and a few senior citizens. But only small components can be fused in this system (Fairhurst 2008; Cooklin 2006). 8.1.4.3 Steam Press Regular steam pressing machines are not chosen for fusing even though some fusibles are produced for use on these machines. These methods were steadily replaced by gas heating. Steam was created by lightly wetting the area to be pressed or by pressing through a dampened piece of linen. The most frequent but least productive ironing and pressing equipment is the hand iron, which is suitable for performing a large number of operations in processing with heat and moisture (Holme 1999). More sophisticated and more productive but less prevalent are ironing presses, which allows a considerable degree of mechanization and automation of processing with heat and moisture. Fabrics are steamed to eliminate lustrous appearance which develops when ironing and pressing equipment is used. The two basic types of irons used today

You won 't have to be that person who spends a chunk of their salary every year just to get their slacks back in poor conditions. Now, you can walk into your pantry and grab simple, everyday household items to make your slacks look as though you just bought them from the store. Before we walk through the steps necessary for you to clean your slacks, we'll first discuss the items you'll need. You'll need your slacks, baking soda, vinegar, lemon juice, a bowl, a lathering brush, and laundry detergent. You'll also need a washing machine with a hand–wash setting, a hanger and/or drying machine with an air–dry or air fluff setting, and a clothing iron that preferably has a steam producing function and a flat surface to use it on. As an eldest brother and cousin, I feel I must be a good example for the young ones. There are numerous methods of showing my cousins and brother support. One main way is by providing advice on making the right choices. For example my brother had a problem at school with one of his classmates. As a mature and responsible older brother, I advised him to use the non–violent approach. I told him to go discuss the problem and try to resolve it peacefully. My brother then asked me why he shouldn't fight his classmate. I explained how violence is the answer to anything. I advised him to first talk to his classmate in a professional manner. If then things get out of hand, I told him to let the teacher know the situation. In the end, my brother didn't need to get the teacher involved. In fact, their conflict was resolved by talking through with each other. I also am very supportive of my little cousins. One way I help them out is by tutoring them once in a while. • 17. Descriptive Essay On My House There is one thing that is common in most small, rural Southern towns; appliances on the porch. From deep–freezers to washing machines, if there's not room in the house you can guarantee there is room on the porch and an extension cord long enough to plug it in. No one thinks it's unusual as everyone in the neighborhood does it. That's especially true for the humble, one–stop–light town I was brought up in. The house I lived in my entire childhood had a deep–freezer on the back porch; my second cousin, who lived next door, had a wringer washing machine on her front porch. That washing machine would lead to an incident involving a shotgun, scissors, a trip to the ER and a lifetime of jokes. One beautiful late summer day, I was at my cousin's house. We were both 10 years–old so we often roamed our countrified neighborhood together. We'd ride bikes up and down the road, explore the woods behind our houses and go swimming in the local swimming hole; affectionately called the Cold Hole by the locals. However, this day, we were at her house enjoying the temperate weather and glasses of chilled sweet tea while waiting for dinnertime. My cousin's mom (my first cousin) was in love with this old wringer washing machine. She used it all the time and refused to buy anything newer. We had been cautioned several times to stay away from the wringers, as it could "eat" our fingers or hands. Unlike most 10–year–olds, we listened to this rule. Except for today. An ally in the fight to protect your shirts is the proper fold. You don't want to run creases through your artwork. A shirt folder is a great way to quickly fold your shirts in a proper manner. The golden yellow school bus came to a quick halt. About five kids stood up and got off. Then, the bus started to move again. My stop was next, but it took about five minutes from this stop to get there. The bus was empty except for me and the driver, Mrs Wendy. It had a strong smell of body odor. I unzipped my backpack and grabbed a small, pink bottle of perfume and spritzed it a couple of times. Finally, the bus stopped once more. I stood up and walked down the aisle. Sticky, already chewed gum was stuck to the floor and food wrappers just sat there, motionless. The buses doors opened and the wrappers blew towards the back of the bus. "Thank you." I told Mrs. Wendy. She nodded as I hopped off the bus. My house was about two houses away from my bus stop so I started to walk. • 34. The Murder Of The United Colonies Of America Hello. I am supposed to be dead, I am not and I have no idea why. I woke up in a hotel room without any memory. Then I looked at a television and almost had a heart attack. I was wanted for murder. The murder of the President of the United Colonies of America(UCA. That also includes The United States). He was giving a speech and was shot by a sniper. Me. Apparently, when they saw where the bullet came from, they rushed to check it out and they saw an M24 on the ground. It had three bullets missing and my fingerprints all over it. They said it could only be a trained hitman or a UCA Marine. They say I was both. I can't remember anything, not even my name. But I have two memories. One was being thrown from an F2 tornado. It threw me about a mile. I was lucky that I landed on my right arm. On the desk was a laptop. It was a X3S90. The X3S90 laptop is made to look like a briefcase. There was a laptop bag next to the desk(I don't know why). There is also a black backpack. I assumed it was mine. On my right, there was the bathroom, a closet and the door. There was also a big refrigerator next to the closet I walked out of the hotel ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Bodies, Machines, and Male Power by M. Carme Alemany Gomez I chose to write my reflection paper on reading number twenty–two "Bodies, Machines, and Male Power." This chapter is written by M. Carme Alemany Gomez. This article talks about washing machines, and how most people only think the value of a washing machine is cleanliness. This article shows that there are diverse ways in which how gender and class, affect the design, operation, and construction of washing machines in Spain. Also how technology reinforced these relationships. They talk about the process of washing clothes when males designed the machines. Women had to learn the very movements that she must do repeatedly while using the machine. If women were given a voice during the beginning stages perhaps the technology would have been designed differently. When someone is designing or building a technology, they make decisions about some details that affect the users. As we all know the washing machine has been around for quite some time. The models we see today have taken at least 40 years of work and changes to get to where they are today. This study is approached by three theories they expected to see class and gender relations in the life of a machine. Second they drew off a Chinese tradition of thought. Third gender relations were saw as "a set of power relationships that not only involve the construction of values, but also constitute a process of bodily submission, as evidence in postures, gestures and movements" (Gomez Pg. 390). • 37. What I Save Money While Doing Laundry Essay With three kids under 10 in the house, and a husband who works two jobs, laundry is an never–ending, on–going chore. Every time I turn around I think the laundry has doubled. This is especially true in the summertime when the kids go out to the pool a few hundred times a day. While laundry can be a daunting task, it can also be a costly task. Here are a few ways I save money while doing laundry: 1. I buy name brand detergent that is on sale and I have a coupon for it. It is my personal opinion from my own observation that the cheaper stuff just doesn 't do as good of a job as the name–brand stuff. By checking the sales ads I can usually find Wisk, Gain, or even Tide on sale. CVS usually runs Buy One Get One Free sales on these items. I use two coupons and get a great deal. I try to never spend more than $2.50 per bottle or box for name brand detergent. 2. Use the cap or the scoop that comes with the detergent appropriately. Notice that there are littles lines or notches on the cup or scoop with a number. These lines indicate the load size of the laundry you are doing. For many, many people they just assume that 1 load= 1 full cup of detergent. Use the appropriate amount of soap per load, don 't just dump a full cup in there blindly. 3. I actually use 1/2 of the recommended amount from the detergent cup. If I have a small load, I fill up the cup 1/2 of the way to line 1. If I have a medium load, I fill up to the 1 line. I never, ever use more than 1/2 of the cup for even ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Two Poems About City Life by Liz Lochead Two poems about city life by Liz Lochead Liz Lochead has written two poems about city life, one being Laundrette which is set in an area of Bristol which is full of bedsits, meant for students just renting. The other poem is George Square which is set in the business district in Glasgow. As the first poem mentioned, Laundrette has a subtle start as it says 'We sit nebulous in steam' (nebulous meaning hazy or vague). You could almost have a debate on all the possible places that you 'sit nebulous in steam'. Through the whole of laundrette it never uses the word laundrette except of course in the title. Quite on the opposite, George Square starts off straight and plain by saying 'George Square'. This throws the location to a square in a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When saying 'sitting separate' the poet puts 'sitting' and 'separate' on different lines to emphasise the importance of the words being separate. Straight after that she puts 'close together' on the same line to say that they're close together. Both poems have metaphors in, George Square uses 'incurable as cancer' as quite a shocking metaphor to describe how we can't get rid of flowers and weeds in the city no matter how hard we try. Laundrette has a few more metaphors. It has 'our eyes are riveted' to describe how we just stand or sit and stare intently at the washing machine as if were expecting something to happen to our clothes. Another metaphor is 'the dark shoves one man in' which uses personification to show how someone, randomly wandering around comes into the laundrette to get away from the dark. A good metaphor is 'tee shirts skinned from her wriggling son' meaning how a mother had too pull the tee shirts off her son who was probably screaming, shouting and trying to get away. One metaphor, talking about the same person is 'she sees a kaleidoscope' saying about how all the multicoloured clothes go whirring around the washing machine very much like a kaleidoscope. 'Half lost, his small possessions swim' describes how there is a 'dour' man with hardly any clothes at all to wash so the washing machine isn't full, creating the image of his clothes swimming around in all the masses of water looking 'half lost'. The last metaphor is a rather long one, still ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. `` This Is Water `` By David Foster Wallace We are all selfish no matter how hard we try to deny it. I learned this by listening to the speech "This is Water", by David Foster Wallace. In the speech, Wallace discusses that if we actually think about what we think about, then we can make our lives better. He also talks about how the exact same experience means two different things to two different people based on their beliefs. Another thing he talks about is that we are all self–centered and tend to interpret life just thinking about ourselves. I completely agree with Wallace's ideas of people being self–centered and also that people give different meanings to the exact same thing, because they make sense and also because that is how we all think, but no one wants to accept it. In Wallace's speech, he says that, "It's a matter of choosing to do the work of somehow altering or getting free of my natural, hard wired default setting which is to be deeply and literally self–centered and to see and interpret life through this lens of self" (Wallace 3). What Wallace means in this quote is that our default setting is to think about ourselves without even thinking twice about it, and that we are the absolute center of the universe. Wallace first makes this statement in section two of the speech, but he keeps talking about this idea throughout the entire speech. He believes that it is hard for people to stop thinking only about themselves, but rather think of other people, and be more aware of the choices we make. I agree ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 41. A Personal Experience : 45 Minutes Of Terror 45 Minutes of Terror I had just woken up to violent rays of sunshine sneaking through my window. It was the summer of 2015 and it was a Wednesday. The house was hushed. Our parents were at work so my sister, Kendallyn, and I stayed home. As I trudged through house, I saw that an astronomical pile of clothes was waiting on me in the living room and a gargantuan pile of dishes was lingering in the kitchen sink. It was 9:00 A.M. and I was starving, but we had no food in the fridge or cabinets because my mom had yet to go to the grocery store. Kendallyn decided to finally roll out of bed around 11:00 A.M. When I say roll, I mean she literally barrel rolled out of bed; Her muscles were sore from workouts the day prior and bending seemed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I grabbed Kendallyn from the bathroom and we ran down the stairs into the basement– my older sisters room that is 80% underground and has one barred window and absolutely no cell phone service. Once I told her the cause of alarm, she understood and from that moment on our instincts kicked in. We were fully prepared because we had made a plan. We had no real weapons, but we did have my older sister's batons she used as a majorette. We decided that if they could unintentionally break a nose, they would prove to be valuable for intentional injury if need be. We waited for what seemed like hours in our little corner of the basement, but was really only about 40 minutes until I decided we needed a phone. Kendallyn stealthily ran up the stairs to check on the invaders status before I made a break to my room. I sprinted and did a ninja roll down the hall and into the living room and snatched my phone from the table. To my surprise, I saw I had 15 missed calls from aunt and 3 from my grandmother. I called them back and was astonished to learn they had waited outside our house in the sweltering heat for 45 minutes because they wanted to see Kendallyn's pig and were wondering why we have not made our way outside to greet them. Finally, we met them on the porch after our 45–minute terror. We told them our story and they ridiculed us for a good 15 minutes. We let them see the pig, we got them a drink for the road, and sent them on their way. I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
