Analysis Of Am I A Good Man
Am I a good man, Clara? This simple, powerful question comes from the television show Doctor
Who, when the main character the Doctor is thinking about all of the pain he has inflicted. He has
indirectly responsible for countless deaths, is a pain to some people for his recklessness, and is not
always kind. This idea is explored throughout the show, and the characters come to the conclusion that
he is a good man because he purposefully goes out of his way to help and save people. However, what
if he did not have this quality? Would he still be a good man? In The Odyssey, by Homer and
translated by Robert Fagles, the main character Odysseus does lack this trait. After voyaging home
from war as a hero, he and his crew face countless ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, his sheer disregard for his crew is one of his many concerning flaws. One such case of this
disregard can be shown on the island of Aeaea, where Circe (a bewitching nymph) has just gotten the
entirety of his crew drunk:
But roused by the shouts and tread of marching men, he leapt up with a start at dawn but still so dazed
he forgot to climb back down again by the long ladder headfirst from the roof he plunged, his neck
snapped from the backbone, his soul flew down to Death. (10.613 17)
This quote reveals that one of Odysseus s men has just accidently killed himself, under the watch of
Odysseus. In fact, under Odysseus s watch, the men were permitted to be constantly drunk and stay at
Circe s for a full year. Odysseus had no concern for the families he and his men had yet to return to,
and had no urgency to get the crew in a safer place and off the island of Aeaea. It took a death to snap
some sense into him. This is not a one time issue. In a later story, Odysseus and his men have landed
on the island of Thrinakia, land of Helios holy cows. Circe has prophesied that if any of Odysseus s
crew touches the cows, that they will all be killed. Odysseus allows them to go onto the island, and
simply tells them to not touch the cows, without a reason. Within weeks, Odysseus s men kill and eat
the cows, and within days, all are dead. This blatant mistake made by Odysseus kills all of his crew,
leaving him to feel guilty.

Why Did The Toris Adopt The Reform Act Of 1832
The Tories opposed the Reform Act of 1832 because they didn t want more people being able to Vote
and still wanted to be the dominant party in the House of Lords. The Tories introduced The Reform
Act of 1867 because they wanted the political power that would come with it and to show that they
could lead the country and be able to change and because throughout Britain people wanted further
parliamentary reform.
The Tories were the dominant force in the house of Commons between 1770 and 1830. In 1831 Earl
Grey, the Whigs leader became Prime Minister
The reasons for the Reform Act of 1832 included, until 1832 the right to vote was limited to a small
group of people. The House of Commons was made up of land gentry, successful business men and
professionals.

Wellington tried but members of the Tories didn t want to create a government that had different views
than most people in Britain so William aske Grey to come back and he agreed to add more Whigs to
the House of Lords. The House of Lords passed in Reform Act.
The Tories rejected the Reform Act of 1832 because since they were conservatives they didn t want
change and wanted to keep things the same.
The Reform Act of 1867 was the second time the electoral process would tried to be changed. During
the early 1960s Lord John Russell wanted there to be another electoral reform. Russell s attempts were
stopped by the Prime Minister, Lord Palmerston who was against change of any sort. Palmerston died
in 1865 and Russell came into power, Russell only wanted to give the vote to respectable but wanted
to exclude unskilled workers and the poor.
The Tories as well as the Right winged liberals led by Lord Derby opposed the Bill. The Right winged
liberals opposed the bill in fear of this bill leading to democracy in the future, so Derby and 33 other

Septic Tank Research
Things A Contractor Looks For When Inspecting Your Septic Tank If you own a home with a septic
tank, then you know you have to pump the tank on a regular schedule. What you may not know is that
you should have the tank inspected regularly too, even if it isn t time to pump the tank yet. If you live
in an area that gets frequent small earthquakes, or if your area unexpectedly has a quake, it s a good
idea to get your tank inspected. While the tanks are durable and last for years under normal conditions,
they aren t indestructible. Here are some things the inspector will look for. Cracks And Holes If your
tank has a hole or cracks in it, then water can seep inside the tank from the ground or waste can leak
out of the tank. Both are bad situations that can lead to problems with your tank and the drainfield.
Holes are most common in old metal tanks. These tanks aren t used much any longer, but if your home
is old, it s possible it still has a metal tank. These tanks can be dangerous since they rust and develop
holes. That allows leaks to occur, but even worse, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Your septic system has two parts. One is the tank and the other is the drainfield. Both have to be
working properly for the waste to be processed from your house. When the drainfield goes bad, there
may be wet soggy grass in the area above it. There could also be sewage in your yard. If sewage is
leaking, the grass above the drainfield will be lush and darker green than the rest of the yard. Problems
with the drainfield are costly to repair. Since drainfield problems often start in a tank that is too full or
damaged, it is worth the effort and expense to keep your septic tank in good shape. If you have a large
tank and you don t use much water, you may go a few years between cleaning and serving the tank.
You may want to consider having an inspection more often than that just to make sure everything is
working okay and no big problems are

History of Jamaican Music
The history of Jamaican music is inextricably intertwined with the history of the Jamaican people.
Jamaica is the third largest island in the Caribbean, and was initially populated by the Arawak people.
Christopher Columbus discovered the island on his second voyage to the Americas, and it was settled
first by Spanish colonists, and later by English colonists. (Megan, R.)
Jamaicans possess a musical heritage that comes from their African and European roots. Reggae music
is Jamaica s best sound. These thumping sounds are rich and infectious and encompass expression ...

Rapping is, in fact, a method of creative expression. The thought that young people can participate in
this form of creativity seems to have helped the phenomenal growth of this genre of music and
expression. Dancehall is an expressive routine that includes songs, poetry, films and fashion. This art
form gives young people the outlet of expressing themselves creatively. (Franksterr)
This is old time story telling in song and music. It combines African and latin rhythm, with anglo
folksongs...and was very popular during the 1940s and 1950s. Today it is used mainly to entertain
visitors coming to the island...giving them a taste of what Jamaican music was like in the past. Listen
to it and you will most certainly feel the spirit of the old days. The stories it tell are usually simple and
funny everyday happenings in Jamaican life. The instruments are also very simple a gourd shaker, a
upright bass, rumba box, fiddle, mandolin, ukulele, or a trumpet. My American friends tend to hang
around it for a bit and find themselves certainly laughing and moving to the beat. Ska is simply mento
music moving to the next stage! Musicians began playing around with the music adding a little
calypso here and there...a little American jazz, some rhythm amp; blues...and before you know it ska
popped out! This new rythm took the 1960 s by storm...until The rude boys of the time slowed the

Lydia Davis s Heart
In her poem Heart , Lydia Davis, depicts the struggle between emotions and consciousness in an
ordinary person life. This poem, HEART , has a way to show the audience in a simple way on how we
feel after a losing someone through death or when we are feeling strong emotions such as love and
hate. For example, in the first line Heart Weeps tells us that it s the beginning of a broken heart after
the loss of someone close whether because they died or ended a relationship. In the second line, Head
tries to help heart tells the audience that the heart and head struggle as they confront each other and
come into debate with emotions, trying to reason or feel for the current situation. In the fourth to sixth

the emotional ups and downs, the person feel renewed in new ways and willing to learn new things
that were not noticed in the first hand; also, the person who got discouraged started to accept
his/herself and learned to cope loneliness. In I want them back, says heart the author tells us that

All the little children living in there are orphans rejected by the wicked world, yet zealously loved by
their father [80 110]. No, he is not their biological father one other criterion of the formalist world,
which permits the distorted and destroyed relationships between the native parents and children.
However, his own world s parameters identify him as their ultimate father. This cozy Cider House
world is a tiny spot on earth where children love and respect each other, if only by virtue of the sense
of alienation that the other world has cursed them with. Any encounter with the outside world is happy
only for one of them: the rest of the kids will not be adopted that soon [84 89]. In fact, the big
spotlight in the story is about the two poles or two alternatives facing the protagonists: their Cider

The Role Of Women And Their Effect On The War
Nevertheless, another important element in The Iliad is the role of women and their effect on the war
and their relationship with other characters. Scholar Mary R. Lefkowitz, argues that women had some
independence and were under the supervisions of man. The scholar writes:
In the Homeric epics women seem to have little independence; they were always under the
guardianship of a man, whether a husband, father, or even a son. Wives must live in their husband s
cities; women like Chryseis or Briseis, who have been captured in raids, become slaves and are
completely subject to their masters. (Lefkowitz 503).
I concur with the writer that women do not have any force and are compelled of by man. As the author
noted about Chryseis been captured and becoming into a slave. This is exhibited in The Iliad when
Chrysesis father comes to King Agamemnon to recover his little girl back in the wake of being given
as a war prize to King Agamemnon. In the wake of bribing the Achenes to give back his girl, King
Agamemnon reacts by saying he will not give back his little girl. This is established in Book One as
Chyrses, Chryseis father drew nearer King Agamemnon,
Yes, Chyrses approached the Achaean s fast ships to win his daughter back, bringing a priceless
ransom...Just set my daughter free, my dear one...
Here, accept these gifts, this ransom...And all the Achaean s cried out their assent: Respect the priest,
accept the shining ransom! But it brought no joy in the heart of Agamemnon. The king

Misogyny. In this paper, I will deconstruct each character with sociological lenses. It will analyze how
each character reacts to others and events. It will demonstrate how the show has objectified women

She receives support from her co workers and associates when she describes the issues affecting
women. For instance, in season 2 episode 13 a producer refers to Temperance as a feminist crusader
out to ruin the all American fun! while getting close, she punches him and states Self defense; he
assaulted me. Sully, her colleague, responds Yes, he did. Dr.Temperance Brennan also argues on how
producers view women as objects as seen in figure 3. She is also very independent and makes it clear
she does not belong to anyone (see Figure 4). Temperance is an independent woman who makes it
clear on several occasions that she challenges the gender norms.
The second main character is Seeley Booth a typical FBI agent. Booth embodies all norms of
masculinity to which men strive and does not challenge the hegemonic male. He is depicted as a tough
guy. As James lull describes in hegemony is the power or dominance that one social group hold over
others (Lull,1995). Booth is male dominance over women, and his gut holds more valued than
Dr.Temperance Brennan countless degrees and years of schooling. In the show, he has saved the day
on many occasions. Seeley Booth is always seen as the hero of the show even if Dr.Temperance
Brennan did all the analytical work. By being the hero, he is claiming his dominance over Dr.
Brennan. The voice of reason is always Agent Booth, despite the fact Dr.Temperance Brennan is more

Executive Summary:
In 1992, Samsung Electronics adopted the form of a wholly owned subsidiary as the entry mode into
China. It s entry into China was in order to maintain growth due to the tough competition in Korea.
China was selected in order to take advantage of its low wages for the mass production of low to

hence making it easy to export abroad and to major locations in China. The original focus of

After a decade of rapid economic growth, in 1997 many South East Asian countries were subject to a
catastrophic economic crisis. The problems endured involved both immediate crisis management in
unstable financial markets and the medium term restructuring and repositioning of their economies in
the face of intensified export competition.
South Korea had a large current account deficit and the maintenance of pegged exchange rates
encouraged external borrowing and led to excessive exposure to foreign exchange risk in both the
financial and corporate sectors. Economists have advanced the impact of Mainland
China on the real economy as a contributing factor to the crisis.
China had begun to compete effectively with other Asian exporters particularly in the 1990s after the
implementation of a number of export oriented reforms. Western importers sought cheaper
manufacturers and found them, indeed, in China whose currency was depreciated relative to the dollar.
The report will address the corporate re alignment by Samsung in order to ride out the economic
filtering of the region in which it was operating.

Strip Searches Persuasive Essay
Strip Searches Should Be Illegal Ontario police officers often search civilians for evidence of a crime
and they employ various methods to do so. However the method of using a strip search has become
outdated and unnecessary in modern society. It is time for the practice of strip searching people to be
stopped by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), even if it is a justified search. The people of Canada
should be protected from these searches as they have the right to privacy and protection from invasive
search practices. The Charter of Rights and Freedoms even has a section on protecting against
unreasonable searches , found in section 7 of the charter. If that is the case, why should the OPP be
allowed to infringe on our rights through strip searches? The fact that in a modern society an illegal
method of searching civilians is still being used is ridiculous. We have the technology to find and use
less invasive methods of searching people that also abide by the law. The strip search, being such an
invasive form of searching someone is humiliating and subjecting people to it should be stopped.
There was a ruling in 2001 by the Supreme Court of Canada, which said that it was humiliating. The
exact quote was Strip searching is inherently humiliating and degrading, the Supreme Court of Canada
ruled in a landmark case 15 years ago, and should only be done when there are reasonable grounds
(Jacques). The fact that a strip search is humiliating means that as a society we

The Pros And Cons Of Computer Crime
Part A: Computer Crime
The integration of computer utilization in every aspect of economic activities has increased the
vulnerability of people to criminal activities; whereas, a computer is employed as instruments of crime
such as murder, child pornography, hacking, virus distribution or fraud. Presently, computers are the
newest criminality instrument utilized today; as such, individuals who comprehend in what manner to
employ them can access doors that only a small number of people are even aware exist (Rosoff,
Pontell Tillman, 2013).
Nowadays, corrupted software programs are substituting the fabricated account books, the desired
customary mechanism of an embezzler. The characteristic weaponries of the burglar likewise today be
depicted from a far more cutting edge arsenal encompassing such contemporary instruments as
automatic cashier systems and electronic account transfers. In a nutshell, white collar crime has
entered the computer era (Rosoff, Pontell Tillman, 2013).
As well, the internet provides an environment in which computers are the tools employed to commit
computer crimes or the target in the crime. Computer crimes is defined as acts committed against a
person with a criminal motive by using modern technology in telecommunication networking such as
the internet. The crimes may affect the target financially, health wise or even psychologically. High

The Battle Of Gettysburg Battle Analysis
Battle of Gettysburg Battle Analysis It is our duty, as soon to be Second Lieutenants in the Army, to
learn from history. Learning from mistakes in the past is necessary to understand the responsibilities
we will soon have. The Battle of Gettysburg shows prime examples of the nine principles of war:
Objective, Offensive, Mass, Economy of Force, Maneuver, Unity of Command, Security, Surprise and
Simplicity. In the military today, we are overwhelmingly blessed with every asset that we have
including technology and monetary resources the list could go on forever but the most invaluable asset
is history. Although all nine principles of war are pertinent to success on the battlefield, only five will
be discussed in this analysis.
Objective
What a cruel thing is war; to separate and destroy families and friends, and mar the purest joys and
happiness God has granted us in this world; to fill our hearts with hatred instead of love for our
neighbours, and to devastate the fair face of this beautiful world! I pray that, on this day when only
peace and good will are preached to mankind, better thoughts may fill the hearts of our enemies and
turn them to peace. ... My heart bleeds at the death of every one of our gallant men. (General Robert
E. Lee. 1862) General Robert E. Lee, as renowned as he is for his tactfulness in wartime, resents war

How Did Anne Hathaway Brought Up
7 Anne Hathaway Was Too Demanding For Knocked Up
Anne Hathaway was initially chosen to play the role of Alison in the film Knocked Up alongside Seth
Rogan but dropped out of the movie because she couldn t agree with the director. According to writer
and director Judd Apatow the actress didn t want to allow us to use real footage of a woman giving
birth to create the illusion that she is giving birth . Hathaway said in a later interview that she didn t
believe that it was necessary to the story. Considering that the movie is based on pregnancy and
childbirth this does seem a little strange but then again it is Hollywood.
Hathaway was replaced with Katherine Heigl who we feel was a much better fit for the film anyway.
Hathaway moved on to her back up project Becoming Jane which didn t fare nearly as well with
audiences as Knocked Up.

Similarities Between John Locke And Thomas Hobbes
John Locke and Thomas Hobbes had very different beliefs when it came to government and human
nature. Locke believed that all humans were born with a good nature and that our circumstances
ultimately determined whether we are good or evil, while Hobbes believed that we were born evil and
that God has given us the freewill to choose to be good or be evil. As for government Locke believed
in more of a Direct Democracy and Hobbes believed in a having a Monarchy. While Locke and
Hobbes disagreed on basically everything they did agree that humans are entitled to Life, Liberty and

The Impact Of Correspondence In World War One
World War one was a serious problem that began July 28 1914. It was the beginning of
misunderstandings between big countries. These countries were not only fighting for their own rights
and for their freedom, but they were also fighting for justice. This war was also known as the Great
War, because it is the 3rd war where the most lives were lost. Over 7 million civilians lost their lives
due to the war, and it had a great impact in economical problems. In this war there were two alliances
the Triple Entente and the Central Powers. Even though this war caused economical problems, it was
also caused communication problems. It was a challenge to communicate because the correspondence
was difficult to transport and also the soldiers and people in war had not enough time to write their
letters. The amount of information they could include was limited and we can say it was a big
disadvantage in the war. Correspondence in world war one was not easy to transport. During these

Male Presence In The Awakening
The lack of male presence symbolizes their disdain in the women s lives. As portrayed in the book, the
protagonist and other major characters are all females, suggesting self sufficiency. The author writes
about the women being left by their husbands, but moves on, depicting male triviality. The female
characters also develop their independence when they rely on each other during difficult times. The
main character and other major characters receive very little help from men, which depicts their
independence. The men have vacated from their lives, leaving an obstacle, which debates the women s
response to the inconvenience. Instead, they invigoratingly maneuver their mentality, verifying their
capabilities. One character, specifically, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This can be shown through interactions with some of the female characters. The pairs: Lou Ann and
Taylor, Mrs. Parsons and Edna Poppy, Taylor and Mattie, clearly depicts their support for each other.
Lou Ann and Taylor builds their relationship when Taylor adjusts to raising Turtle, while Mrs. Parsons
supports Edna with her disadvantage. Yet what correlates the most is Taylor and Mattie s relationship.
This can be most seen when Taylor consults to Mattie about Turtle. Even with this on her mind, she
spent a lot of time talking with me about Turtle. She told me some things I didn t know...Do I think it
would be interesting, maybe even enjoyable in the long run, to share my life with this kid and give her
my best effort and maybe, when all s said and done, end up with a good friend (Kingsolver 239).
When Taylor debates a life changing choice of adopting Turtle, she discusses it with Mattie. In the
process, Mattie offers exquisite advice, showing Taylor could always seek Mattie for advice. In the
process, Mattie depicts herself as a motherly figure to Taylor which bolsters Taylor s adoration for
Mattie. The women in the story represent the strong relationships people could build with each

Benefits And Benefits Of Employee Employees
perform each job. While training each employee in each area is time consuming it has many benefits
to the employees and to the business. By allowing employees to rotate though the different jobs in the
restaurant it helps prevent employee burn out in some of the higher stress areas of the business. The
cash register is one of these areas; employees are expected to have a constant outgoing, happy
appearance with customers and having to deal with the never ending calls for takeout increases stress.
On the other hand it allows for increased flexibility and shift coverage for the business owner. For
instance, if one employee calls out sick and that employee were scheduled to be the pizza maker for
that night, it would be relatively easy to shift another worker or call someone in to cover that position.
This increased flexibility takes stress off of the business owner and the employees. The owner also
does a good job at trying to give employees the opportunity for job enlargement; he allows employees
to come up with specialty pizzas not on the menu for the week, and whichever employee has the
bestselling pizza at the end of the month gets some kind of bonus. By allowing employees to use their
creativity it keeps them involved and caring for the business; which in turn improves the bottom line
and efficiency of the company.
The design and structure that an owner uses in structuring their business can also affect how
employees view the business, positive or negative. The

An Interview With Andrea Williams, Principal Of Elena...
Using Strategic Planning
This information was gathered in an interview with Andrea Williams, Principal of Theresa Bunker
Elementary. In the past three years that Mrs. Williams has been principal of this school she has
brought a strong focus onto using data to make appropriate instructional decisions as well as execute
strategic planning to help the school progress. The implementation of the PLC process has helped the
teachers to gain an understanding of how valuable data collection and analysis can be for their
teaching practice. Looking at data also helps the school attain the yearly goals laid out by the district s
strategic plan. One of the first steps taken in developing a strategic plan for the school is to gather and
analyze data in order to find the school s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities for growth as well as
any threats to the progress of the school. Early in the year the strategic planning team will review
quantitative data collected from student achievement scores, attendance rates, discipline trends,
financial records, transportation reports, and so forth. Depending upon the specific issue addressed in
the planning process, these types of quantitative data serve to inform decision making processes. The
collection of qualitative data is also an integral part of best practices in development of a strategic
plan. Qualitative data collection includes use of surveys, focus groups, and interviews with key
stakeholder groups. It is important and useful to

E Commerce Is On The Rise
I agree with your post. I believe that brick and mortar businesses are highly relevant despite the fact
that e commerce is on the rise. I too enjoy shopping online sometime mainly due to my shopping
habits and simply out of convenience. Joseph (2016) acknowledges that, E commerce has the
convenience component nailed down. Moreover, that is essentially why people like online shopping,
consumers like that they have to exude little effort or difficulty, they simply just have to scroll down a
page to look at the products available and place them in their online cart. Likewise, they are able to
avoid waiting in lines and searching for a parking spot. However, convenience is highly important and
essential especially in today s time when people have so much on their plates that they rarely have
time to factor in time for shopping in actual stores. Furthermore, the reason as to why brick and mortar
stores are still relevant and people still utilize them is because they have some attributes that E
commerce does not have such as an opportunity and time for consumers to walk into a physical store,
opportunity for face to face interaction, able to physically pick up the items, feel them, smell them or
taste them.
I personally know that brick and mortar businesses such as grocery stores serve a major benefit
because I like to go in the store and pick out my items personally. Especially when it comes to fruits,
vegetables, and meats. I need and want to be able to compare the items

river was also a mile wide. Alexander would be facing an army again that outnumbered him. King
Porus thought the river was his best defense, but he underestimated Alexander s ability to fight. Porus
thought that Alexander would wait until monsoon season was over because the river was deep and

that he would wait for monsoon season to end. But he had no intention of waiting. Then Alexander

Hazel s Character In Richard Adams Watership Down
Running our risks for us are you like El ahrairah (Adams 23), a rabbit named Dandelion compares
Hazel to the ideal rabbit, El ahrairah, making him proud. Throughout the novel, Watership Down,
Hazel often demonstrates his El ahrairah like skills as chief. He saves his warren time and time again
with his martyr personality, quick wit and his self assurance. All these character traits are most like El

Hazel proves to be like El ahrairah every time he puts himself into dangerous situations to benefit his

The Rate Of Movement Of The Porcellio Scaber Moved Slower...
Conclusion:
In conclusion, my graph shows how the average rate of movement of the porcellio scaber moved
slower at lower temperatures (at 5Ā°C, the average rate of movement was 0.2cm/second) and increased
movement as the temperature got higher (at 25Ā°C, the average rate of movement was 0.5cm/second).
My hypothesis was partially correct as the porcellio scabers did move slower at lower temperatures
and moved faster as the temperature increased. But, the porcellio scabers did not move slower at their
optimum range of 15Ā°C. This may have been because of the temperature in the classroom at the time
when I was doing my experiments. For example, when doing my experiment at 15Ā°C, the temperature
in the classroom was 24Ā°C. This factor may have affected my results as the temperature in the room
has affected the temperature being tested on the porcellio scaber.
Discussion:
This investigation was carried out to determine if the rate of movement of porcellio scabers changed
when it was placed in different temperatures and therefore if the temperature affected their ecological
niche. My graph is slightly different compared to the Rosehill College s practical investigation of
porcellio scabers graph, found under the biology section on the Rosehill College webpage. The
Rosehill College porcellio scaber graph from 5Ā°C to 15Ā°C decreased in average rate of movement and
from 15Ā°C to 25Ā°C, it increased in average rate of movement. My graph did not decrease at any point

Figurative Language In Dudley Randall s Ballad Of Birmingham
When I first saw the title, Ballad of Birmingham I thought that this poem is going to be about the city
of Birmingham and how beautiful it is. Then I saw what was beneath the title which said, On the
bombing of a church in Birmingham, Alabama, 1963. I now know that the poem is going to be about a
bombing, something I know but the characters don t. That sentence also tells me it takes place in 1963
which is around the time of the civil rights movement.
The poem is about a girl who wants to go downtown and march for freedom but his mother would not
let her because she fears her daughter will get hurt. The mother sends the girl to church thinking she
will be safe there. Then the church is bombed and the girl was one of the victims
In this poem the poet and speaker are two totally people. The poet is Dudley Randall and the speaker
is a spectator. I can tell that the speaker is a speaker because he/she is telling a story for example, She
clawed trough bits of glass and brick. This shows us that the speaker is a spectator since he/she is
telling us what is happening as if he/she were there.
In this poem there is a lot of figurative language. One of the biggest types of figurative language used
in this poem is irony. The irony in this poem is how the mother wouldn t let her child go to march
because she feared her child would get hurt. Instead she sent her child to church because she believed
it was a safe and sacred place but ironically the church ended up being bombed. Another piece of
figurative language that is very effective in this poem is imagery. The way the poem is written helps
me create images in my head for example, She raced through the streets of Birmingham. I can imagine
her running around desperately, looking for her child. The metaphors and hyperboles in this poem also
help with the imagery, for example, ...night dark hair, and ...rose petal sweet. These metaphors make
me think of the girls smoothly combed black hair and her fresh and beautiful rosy smell. A hyperbole
that had a huge effect on the tone was, But that smile was the last smile to ever come upon her face.
This hyperbole really helps me understand the effect of a tragic moment like this and how it can
completely ruin

Book Review of Eight Men Out The Black Sox and the 1919...
Book Review of Eight Men Out The Black Sox and the 1919 World Series by Eliot Asinof
In the golden age of baseball, where the heroes of the diamond
became gods, an incident that would scar baseball for life was committed in
the World Series of 1919. Eight men of the Chicago White Sox team
conceived a plot to throw the World Series for a sum of $80,000. A novel
written by Eliot Asinof, entitled Eight Men Out: The Black Sox and the 1919
World Series, examines the events leading up to the fix, well through the rest
of the players lives.
The players on the Chicago White Sox team of 1919 had many
reasons to believe they were being unfairly treated. One of which was their
poor salaries as compared to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

as to have a chef at there disposal while at the ball park.
Asinof projects the impression that if the players had viewed
themselves as being fairly treated, or at least able to seek employment with
another team, which was prohibited through the reserve clause located within
every players contract, then this tragic story in baseball lore would have never
come about.
The second theme to which Asinof speaks is of the series itself.
Before the series ever even began the gamblers were seemingly stringing
the players along, all except for Arnold Rothstein. He was the only participant
in the fix to uphold his end of the deal, and give the players the money they
agreed upon. But as was the case so often, a fellow gambler, and the man
the players trusted skimmed money off the top and only delivered the players
$10,000 of the $40,000 provided up front.
When the series started, the players were prepared to fulfill their end of
the deal, even though they didn t receive their payment in advance. In fact
the first two games of the series went exactly according to plan. The superior
White Sox team of Chicago successfully threw the first two games of the
series. The third game was a turning point for the player s morale. After
being overly frustrated with the treatment they were receiving

6. Colourful Costumes
In the area of costume design, Cirque du Soleil has really raised the bar.
The traditional circus had costumes for each performer, but costumes and makeup were typically very
basic. On the other hand, Cirque du Soleil custom costumes are designed to contribute to the overall
theme of each individual show. Cirque du Soleil s costumes have fancy details, colorful decorations,
and even lights! For example, in the show Amaluna, 130 costumes were worn, made of 800 different
materials. And if that s not enough, in the show Varekai, 130 costumes were made over the course of
33,000 hours, and a team of 6 works 250 hours weekly to maintain those costumes.
In addition, Cirque du Soleil has very dramatic makeup for each performer and each segment of the
show. From my interview with a former Cirque du Soleil performer, Marin Debruyn, I learned that
Cirque du Soleil also makes molds of performer s faces to create 3D printed masks.

failure is based on the change in corporate strategy of 2006 in which Lehman decided to shift from a
moving or securitization business to a storage business, with the firm making and holding longer term,
risk investments. This strategic positioning was fully supported by the board, although the chief risk
officer and certain senior risk management executives had expressed concerns about the extent of the
change to the firm s risk appetite.
Strategy Impact:
While investment banks are in the business of taking calculated risks they must consider risk within
the firms risk appetite. In March 2006 Lehman Brothers adopted a new business strategy to grow its
proprietary business from a lower risk brokerage model to a higher risk, capitalā€intensive banking
model with a focus on expanding three specific areas of principal investment: commercial real estate,
leveraged loans and private equity businesses to consume more capital. This strategy was risky due to
the firm s high leverage and small equity. This impacted their risk taking significantly because this

Lehman officers described it, Lehman shifted from focusing almost exclusively on the moving
business a business strategy of

Essay Stephen Jay Gould Nonmoral Nature
Evil in Nature and a Benevolent God
The idea of the existence of evil in nature many times creates arguments between creationists and
scientists concerning not only the design of nature by a creator God, but the actual benevolence of
God. In Stephen Jay Gould s essay Nonmoral Nature (1984), he explores this highly controversial
issue by posing the question: If God is good and if creation reveals his goodness, why are we
surrounded with pain, suffering, and apparently senseless cruelty in the animal world? He uses the life
span of the parasitic ichneumon wasp to illustrate a scientific view that the concept of evil is limited to
human beings and that the world of nature is unconcerned with it. To some ... Show more content on

Environmental conditions deteriorated as a reflection of man s declining moral character and religious
commitments. Chaos began to creep into their physical world. William Kirby (1835) wrote in one of
the famous Bridgewater Treatises on natural theology that God created fleas, lice, and intestinal
parasites after the fall of Adam and Eve. It was also after the fall of man that he became aware that
nature as beneficial and beautiful as God had created it, also had a cruel and dangerous side. The once
perfect world had no pathogenic organisms. Bacteria for example, played a purely beneficial role in
the ecology of paradise. Even in the Garden of Eden, there had to be some type of garbage or refuse.
Flower petals and fallen fruit would litter the ground unless some microbial force broke them down
into useful organic matter. However, after man s fall, strains of bacteria became toxic and man realized
that accidentally eating toxic plants could kill him, there were disease epidemics, and major struggles
to protect his food crop from disease, plant and animal pests (Wheeler, Gerald). Not long after that did
the violence of man evolve and spread throughout the land.
Another crisis stressed the earth s ecology as a result of man s corruption,

economic discrepancies among various regions in Poland. (Gorlach; Klekotko; Nowak 17) The most
commonly stored foods were peas, broad bean, kohlrabi, and turnip. In the forests, sylvan fruits were
gathered such as wild strawberries, blueberries, currants, raspberries, wild black raspberries, and even
wild mushrooms. On the coast of the Baltic Sea, herring, codfish, dory pollack, sprat and sole were
commonly used in Polish platters. With all the common foods came a variety of religious fasting and
processing of such ingredients within the Polish cuisine. Historically, the first known fasting time was
brought out upon the rule of King Boleslaw I the Brave (967 1025). He ordered to knock out teeth of
those who didn t refrain oneself from eating meat on fast days. Although many of the same fasting
times still exist modernly, it is not as intensive as the previous punishments on neglecting the fast. In
present day Poland, many citizens continue to practice fasting on Fridays, holidays eves and

Example Of Predictive Policing
The role of research within the criminal justice system is aimed towards reducing criminal activity in a
potentially popular crime area. law enforcement agencies do this is through a number of ways. One of
them is predictive policing. Predictive policing refers to the use of mathematical, predictive and
analytical techniques in law enforcement to identify potential criminal activity
(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Predictive_policing). Predictive policing works with situational
awareness and anticipation of human behavior, resulting in the development or strategies to prevent
criminal activity.
How does this work, we ask? well its simple, its starts with data collection, this comes from the
analyzation of repeat offenders, repeat victims, and locations or types of targets. This data is then
analyzed to obtain an understanding of criminal activity trends. The law enforcement agencies make a
prediction based on data provided more officers or specific task forces would be inserted into
designated high crime areas. The data is reevaluated to see if the methods used are effective, if not
they will gather more data and create a plan that works, crime can not be completely stopped but it can

Using reports involving lesser crimes gathered from the immediate and surrounding coverage areas,
the agency forecasts the increase in short term illegal activity and then intervenes by increasing law

consumption. Through an initiative called the Kansas City No Violence Alliance (KC NoVA

Religious Freedom And Expression Across The World
Religion is one of the most sensitive issues and almost all people participate in some kind of religious
practice. Even though every religion encourages the idea of peace, tolerance, and acceptance almost
no person stays peaceful or tolerates anyone or anything when it comes to religious differences.
History is full of religious wars and some of them have continued for years and were the cause of
many of men, women, and children s deaths. The issue of religious freedom and expression across the
world has been apparent since the beginning of time and it seems as though these expressions have
separated many groups of people throughout history. Issues of religious confliction and persecution
has also been a major problem throughout the history of mankind. From Wars to genocide and slavery,
religion has been on the forefront of some of mankind s most disturbing moments and is commonly
used as a justification of such acts. These events have effected not only America but every country in
the world and every demographic across the globe. Throughout this paper many of these events will
be discussed in an attempt to open our eyes to how much religion really does separate us as a people.
As religious freedom in America began to develop the splintering of Christianity resulted in more than
900 denominations of that faith currently existing in the United States, of which the vast majority of
Americans are members. These Christian teachings though also led to one of America s biggest

  • 2. Analysis Of Am I A Good Man Am I a good man, Clara? This simple, powerful question comes from the television show Doctor Who, when the main character the Doctor is thinking about all of the pain he has inflicted. He has indirectly responsible for countless deaths, is a pain to some people for his recklessness, and is not always kind. This idea is explored throughout the show, and the characters come to the conclusion that he is a good man because he purposefully goes out of his way to help and save people. However, what if he did not have this quality? Would he still be a good man? In The Odyssey, by Homer and translated by Robert Fagles, the main character Odysseus does lack this trait. After voyaging home from war as a hero, he and his crew face countless ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, his sheer disregard for his crew is one of his many concerning flaws. One such case of this disregard can be shown on the island of Aeaea, where Circe (a bewitching nymph) has just gotten the entirety of his crew drunk: But roused by the shouts and tread of marching men, he leapt up with a start at dawn but still so dazed he forgot to climb back down again by the long ladder headfirst from the roof he plunged, his neck snapped from the backbone, his soul flew down to Death. (10.613 17) This quote reveals that one of Odysseus s men has just accidently killed himself, under the watch of Odysseus. In fact, under Odysseus s watch, the men were permitted to be constantly drunk and stay at Circe s for a full year. Odysseus had no concern for the families he and his men had yet to return to, and had no urgency to get the crew in a safer place and off the island of Aeaea. It took a death to snap some sense into him. This is not a one time issue. In a later story, Odysseus and his men have landed on the island of Thrinakia, land of Helios holy cows. Circe has prophesied that if any of Odysseus s crew touches the cows, that they will all be killed. Odysseus allows them to go onto the island, and simply tells them to not touch the cows, without a reason. Within weeks, Odysseus s men kill and eat the cows, and within days, all are dead. This blatant mistake made by Odysseus kills all of his crew, leaving him to feel guilty. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What you may not know is that you should have the tank inspected regularly too, even if it isn t time to pump the tank yet. If you live in an area that gets frequent small earthquakes, or if your area unexpectedly has a quake, it s a good idea to get your tank inspected. While the tanks are durable and last for years under normal conditions, they aren t indestructible. Here are some things the inspector will look for. Cracks And Holes If your tank has a hole or cracks in it, then water can seep inside the tank from the ground or waste can leak out of the tank. Both are bad situations that can lead to problems with your tank and the drainfield. Holes are most common in old metal tanks. These tanks aren t used much any longer, but if your home is old, it s possible it still has a metal tank. These tanks can be dangerous since they rust and develop holes. That allows leaks to occur, but even worse, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Your septic system has two parts. One is the tank and the other is the drainfield. Both have to be working properly for the waste to be processed from your house. When the drainfield goes bad, there may be wet soggy grass in the area above it. There could also be sewage in your yard. If sewage is leaking, the grass above the drainfield will be lush and darker green than the rest of the yard. Problems with the drainfield are costly to repair. Since drainfield problems often start in a tank that is too full or damaged, it is worth the effort and expense to keep your septic tank in good shape. • 9. The Role Of Women And Their Effect On The War Nevertheless, another important element in The Iliad is the role of women and their effect on the war and their relationship with other characters. Scholar Mary R. Lefkowitz, argues that women had some independence and were under the supervisions of man. The scholar writes: In the Homeric epics women seem to have little independence; they were always under the guardianship of a man, whether a husband, father, or even a son. Wives must live in their husband s cities; women like Chryseis or Briseis, who have been captured in raids, become slaves and are completely subject to their masters. (Lefkowitz 503). I concur with the writer that women do not have any force and are compelled of by man. As the author noted about Chryseis been captured and becoming into a slave. This is exhibited in The Iliad when Chrysesis father comes to King Agamemnon to recover his little girl back in the wake of being given as a war prize to King Agamemnon. In the wake of bribing the Achenes to give back his girl, King Agamemnon reacts by saying he will not give back his little girl. This is established in Book One as Chyrses, Chryseis father drew nearer King Agamemnon, Yes, Chyrses approached the Achaean s fast ships to win his daughter back, bringing a priceless ransom...Just set my daughter free, my dear one... Here, accept these gifts, this ransom...And all the Achaean s cried out their assent: Respect the priest, accept the shining ransom! But it brought no joy in the heart of Agamemnon. The king ... After a decade of rapid economic growth, in 1997 many South East Asian countries were subject to a catastrophic economic crisis. The problems endured involved both immediate crisis management in unstable financial markets and the medium term restructuring and repositioning of their economies in the face of intensified export competition. South Korea had a large current account deficit and the maintenance of pegged exchange rates encouraged external borrowing and led to excessive exposure to foreign exchange risk in both the financial and corporate sectors. Economists have advanced the impact of Mainland China on the real economy as a contributing factor to the crisis. China had begun to compete effectively with other Asian exporters particularly in the 1990s after the implementation of a number of export oriented reforms. However the method of using a strip search has become outdated and unnecessary in modern society. It is time for the practice of strip searching people to be stopped by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), even if it is a justified search. The people of Canada should be protected from these searches as they have the right to privacy and protection from invasive search practices. The Charter of Rights and Freedoms even has a section on protecting against unreasonable searches , found in section 7 of the charter. If that is the case, why should the OPP be allowed to infringe on our rights through strip searches? The fact that in a modern society an illegal method of searching civilians is still being used is ridiculous. We have the technology to find and use less invasive methods of searching people that also abide by the law. The strip search, being such an invasive form of searching someone is humiliating and subjecting people to it should be stopped. There was a ruling in 2001 by the Supreme Court of Canada, which said that it was humiliating. Thus, there is reason to believe that an all powerful, all knowing, all good creator does not exist. However, God gave us the freewill to be good or evil, how could we know good without knowing evil? As for natural evils, such as hurricanes, and other natural disasters, while it is hard to understand why a so called loving God could allow these things to happen we have to understand that we wouldn t need a savior if the world was without ... • 24. Benefits And Benefits Of Employee Employees perform each job. While training each employee in each area is time consuming it has many benefits to the employees and to the business. By allowing employees to rotate though the different jobs in the restaurant it helps prevent employee burn out in some of the higher stress areas of the business. The cash register is one of these areas; employees are expected to have a constant outgoing, happy appearance with customers and having to deal with the never ending calls for takeout increases stress. On the other hand it allows for increased flexibility and shift coverage for the business owner. For instance, if one employee calls out sick and that employee were scheduled to be the pizza maker for that night, it would be relatively easy to shift another worker or call someone in to cover that position. This increased flexibility takes stress off of the business owner and the employees. The owner also does a good job at trying to give employees the opportunity for job enlargement; he allows employees to come up with specialty pizzas not on the menu for the week, and whichever employee has the bestselling pizza at the end of the month gets some kind of bonus. By allowing employees to use their creativity it keeps them involved and caring for the business; which in turn improves the bottom line and efficiency of the company. The design and structure that an owner uses in structuring their business can also affect how employees view the business, positive or negative. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the past three years that Mrs. Williams has been principal of this school she has brought a strong focus onto using data to make appropriate instructional decisions as well as execute strategic planning to help the school progress. The implementation of the PLC process has helped the teachers to gain an understanding of how valuable data collection and analysis can be for their teaching practice. Looking at data also helps the school attain the yearly goals laid out by the district s strategic plan. One of the first steps taken in developing a strategic plan for the school is to gather and analyze data in order to find the school s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities for growth as well as any threats to the progress of the school. Early in the year the strategic planning team will review quantitative data collected from student achievement scores, attendance rates, discipline trends, financial records, transportation reports, and so forth. Depending upon the specific issue addressed in the planning process, these types of quantitative data serve to inform decision making processes. I too enjoy shopping online sometime mainly due to my shopping habits and simply out of convenience. Joseph (2016) acknowledges that, E commerce has the convenience component nailed down. Moreover, that is essentially why people like online shopping, consumers like that they have to exude little effort or difficulty, they simply just have to scroll down a page to look at the products available and place them in their online cart. Likewise, they are able to avoid waiting in lines and searching for a parking spot. However, convenience is highly important and essential especially in today s time when people have so much on their plates that they rarely have time to factor in time for shopping in actual stores. Furthermore, the reason as to why brick and mortar stores are still relevant and people still utilize them is because they have some attributes that E commerce does not have such as an opportunity and time for consumers to walk into a physical store, opportunity for face to face interaction, able to physically pick up the items, feel them, smell them or taste them. Conclusion: In conclusion, my graph shows how the average rate of movement of the porcellio scaber moved slower at lower temperatures (at 5Ā°C, the average rate of movement was 0.2cm/second) and increased movement as the temperature got higher (at 25Ā°C, the average rate of movement was 0.5cm/second). My hypothesis was partially correct as the porcellio scabers did move slower at lower temperatures and moved faster as the temperature increased. But, the porcellio scabers did not move slower at their optimum range of 15Ā°C. This may have been because of the temperature in the classroom at the time when I was doing my experiments. For example, when doing my experiment at 15Ā°C, the temperature in the classroom was 24Ā°C. This factor may have affected my results as the temperature in the room has affected the temperature being tested on the porcellio scaber. Discussion: This investigation was carried out to determine if the rate of movement of porcellio scabers changed when it was placed in different temperatures and therefore if the temperature affected their ecological niche. My graph is slightly different compared to the Rosehill College s practical investigation of porcellio scabers graph, found under the biology section on the Rosehill College webpage. The Rosehill College porcellio scaber graph from 5Ā°C to 15Ā°C decreased in average rate of movement and from 15Ā°C to 25Ā°C, it increased in average rate of movement. • 33. Figurative Language In Dudley Randall s Ballad Of Birmingham When I first saw the title, Ballad of Birmingham I thought that this poem is going to be about the city of Birmingham and how beautiful it is. Then I saw what was beneath the title which said, On the bombing of a church in Birmingham, Alabama, 1963. I now know that the poem is going to be about a bombing, something I know but the characters don t. That sentence also tells me it takes place in 1963 which is around the time of the civil rights movement. The poem is about a girl who wants to go downtown and march for freedom but his mother would not let her because she fears her daughter will get hurt. The mother sends the girl to church thinking she will be safe there. Then the church is bombed and the girl was one of the victims In this poem the poet and speaker are two totally people. The poet is Dudley Randall and the speaker is a spectator. I can tell that the speaker is a speaker because he/she is telling a story for example, She clawed trough bits of glass and brick. This shows us that the speaker is a spectator since he/she is telling us what is happening as if he/she were there. In this poem there is a lot of figurative language. One of the biggest types of figurative language used in this poem is irony. The irony in this poem is how the mother wouldn t let her child go to march because she feared her child would get hurt. Instead she sent her child to church because she believed it was a safe and sacred place but ironically the church ended up being bombed. Another piece of figurative language that is very effective in this poem is imagery. The way the poem is written helps me create images in my head for example, She raced through the streets of Birmingham. I can imagine her running around desperately, looking for her child. The metaphors and hyperboles in this poem also help with the imagery, for example, ...night dark hair, and ...rose petal sweet. These metaphors make me think of the girls smoothly combed black hair and her fresh and beautiful rosy smell. A hyperbole that had a huge effect on the tone was, But that smile was the last smile to ever come upon her face. The purpose of this memo is to provide an assessment into the Bankruptcy Examiner s report regarding the risk management failure as it relates to Leman Brothers. The fundamental reason for the failure is based on the change in corporate strategy of 2006 in which Lehman decided to shift from a moving or securitization business to a storage business, with the firm making and holding longer term, risk investments. This strategic positioning was fully supported by the board, although the chief risk officer and certain senior risk management executives had expressed concerns about the extent of the change to the firm s risk appetite. Strategy Impact: While investment banks are in the business of taking calculated risks they must consider risk within the firms risk appetite. In March 2006 Lehman Brothers adopted a new business strategy to grow its proprietary business from a lower risk brokerage model to a higher risk, capitalā€intensive banking model with a focus on expanding three specific areas of principal investment: commercial real estate, leveraged loans and private equity businesses to consume more capital. This strategy was risky due to the firm s high leverage and small equity. Essay Stephen Jay Gould Nonmoral Nature Evil in Nature and a Benevolent God The idea of the existence of evil in nature many times creates arguments between creationists and scientists concerning not only the design of nature by a creator God, but the actual benevolence of God. In Stephen Jay Gould s essay Nonmoral Nature (1984), he explores this highly controversial issue by posing the question: If God is good and if creation reveals his goodness, why are we surrounded with pain, suffering, and apparently senseless cruelty in the animal world? He uses the life span of the parasitic ichneumon wasp to illustrate a scientific view that the concept of evil is limited to human beings and that the world of nature is unconcerned with it. Chaos began to creep into their physical world. William Kirby (1835) wrote in one of the famous Bridgewater Treatises on natural theology that God created fleas, lice, and intestinal parasites after the fall of Adam and Eve. It was also after the fall of man that he became aware that nature as beneficial and beautiful as God had created it, also had a cruel and dangerous side. The once perfect world had no pathogenic organisms. Bacteria for example, played a purely beneficial role in the ecology of paradise. Even in the Garden of Eden, there had to be some type of garbage or refuse. Flower petals and fallen fruit would litter the ground unless some microbial force broke them down into useful organic matter. However, after man s fall, strains of bacteria became toxic and man realized that accidentally eating toxic plants could kill him, there were disease epidemics, and major struggles to protect his food crop from disease, plant and animal pests (Wheeler, Gerald). Not long after that did the violence of man evolve and spread throughout the land. Another crisis stressed the earth s ecology as a result of man s corruption, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
