Not many people know that Google started out as BackRub, not the relaxing kind that you get at a
spa. The idea for BackRub came from Larry Page looking for a topic to do his doctoral thesis on.
Page decided to try and reverse engineer the World Wide Web for his thesis. Little did they know
that were on the way to creating one best "Good to Great" companies of this century. As Jim Collins
states in Good to Great that the companies that go from good to great are not looking for the quick
fix and Google definitely wasn't looking for that. In fact, they were not even trying to make an
internet search engine at all. Their goal was to look at the World Wide Web similar to the way
academic build their papers, on citations. Papers are judged not only on the number of citations they
use but also the number of times they are cited. Instead of using citations they used web links to
other sites and developed a ranking system. As John Battle states in his article for Wired.com "As
they fiddled with the results, Brin and Page realized their data might have implications for Internet

My independent field trip was a social, historical, and critical walking tour that took place on April
28th. My tour started at SOMArts explain in which I commuted from campus to SOMArts,
estimating around forty–minutes and requiring two buses for transportation. We explored the South
of market in which I had the opportunity to see the hidden history behind its past: old train trails,
former and current breweries, and dunes for no expense at all! The tour then proceeded to 8th and
Harrison, then to Alameda and Bryant, and then to Mission Bay along the Mission Creek channel,

Google Driverless Car stopped by Police in California for Going too Slow
Police give out traffic tickets on a daily basis, however, on Thursday, California police in Mountain
View made a traffic stop involving a Google driverless car for going too slow, and causing a traffic
jam.
The Google driverless car is a test vehicle in deployed in several locations and has logged more than
a million miles on the road. The car was stopped because it was going 24 miles per hour in a 35 mile
per hour area.
Police learn about how Google driverless car operates
The police officer stopped the vehicle and asked questions about how the vehicle is able to operate,
drive and choose its speed, as well as to explain to operators how the car affects other traffic. ...
The operators were told that in the future, if Google's new vehicle causes traffic issues that they
need to pull over and let traffic go by just as if they were any other car having an issue of some sort.
This time they didn't receive a ticket.
Google cars must follow the road rules
Google's autonomous cars are programmed to obey the rules of the road, but the company says that
one of the challenges of automated vehicles is finding a way to blend the Google driverless car in
with other vehicles on the road. This is especially true since many live drivers don't always follow or
obey traffic rules.
The Google automatic cars have been involved in 16 auto accidents since they started being tested in
2009. These were all said to be caused by some sort of human error, and were not the fault of the
driverless car's programming. Google officials say that their Google driverless car is kept at 25 miles
per hour or less due to safety reasons, and that they want people to feel like they can approach them
to ask

The Evolution of Google
It all started in 1995, when Larry Page and Sergey Brin met at Stanford University. Larry was 22
years old and a University of Michigan graduate. Sergey was 21 years old at the time and was
assigned to show Larry around campus. Larry Page decided to attend Stanford University and
became close friends with Sergey Brin. In 1996, Larry and Sergey collaborates the search engine
"BackRub". Stanford servers could not handle too much bandwidth from BackRub the first year
Larry and Sergey was running it. The following year in 1997, they registered Google.com on
September 15th. Google was created by them so; it could be a mission to organize millions of
information for the world to discover. Larry Page and Sergey Brin incorporated Google in California
and they opened a bank account for the established company (Google Inc., 2013).
The first office space they started in was in Susan Wojcicki's garage on Santa Margarita Ave., Menlo
Park, California. February 1999, Larry and Sergey moved out of Susan's garage and moved to 165
University Avenue in Palo Alto. Then, they were able to hire only eight employees to start off their
growing business. In August, they are able to open up a Mountain View location at 2400 Bayshore,
south of Stanford University and near some city named Sunnyvale, Santa Clara, and San Jose. At a
Starbucks in 2000 on 86th Street, they opened up Google New York; which is a one–person sales
