The document discusses how the combination of a music video, digipak, and advertisement for a band identify with each other through their shared use of a bicycle motif. The video, about a song titled "My Bike," features a bicycle. Though the video itself does not show an edited bicycle like the digipak and ad, similar lighting was used. The digipak interior image comes from the video. The ad and digipak front cover use slightly edited versions of the same photograph to link the ancillary texts together and ensure the bicycle motif and band logo are recognizable across products.
1. How Effective Is The Combination Of Your Main Product With Ancillary
Texts?
Personally I believe that my video, digipak and advert all identify with one another due
to the bicycle being a motif which is shown in all three products, on a signified level the
bike represents not only freedom but youthfulness which my target audience will be
able to relate to. The song that I chose to create a music video for is named 'My Bike' so
I couldn't not feature a bicycle within the video, however I could have chosen not to
have a bicycle shown on my digipak and advert but I felt as though I needed something
for the audience to identify with, because my video is a Narrative Concept music video.
Although my music video doesn't show an edited version of the bicycle like my digipak
and advert does, I chose well lighted area's such as the beach or filming on days where
the sun was bright in order to create bright footage like my ancillary products. However,
the image used for the inside of my digipak has been taken from my music video which
means the audience will be able to recognise the bike from the video, and associate it
with the band and therefore the digipak. I linked the ancillary texts together by having
the main image on my advert the same photograph as the front cover on my digipak,
however they were edited slightly different but still recognisable as the same
photograph. I also kept them similar by having 'Neon Bicycles' surrounded by a neon
blur, by using this effect I was able to ensure that the audience will recognise this as the
band's logo as well as using the bicycle as a motif throughout the products.
