Sam Percy proposes three ideas for music videos. Idea 1 is for the song "Let Her Go" and involves a narrative of a boy grieving a lost family member. Idea 2 is for "Wisemen" and features a story of boys who bully the artist facing consequences. Idea 3 is for "Paradise" and depicts an artist performing in a dark room while a boy runs away with his girlfriend to "Paradise". Sam likes Idea 3 best as it is most challenging and different. Potential risks include ensuring the narrative is understandable and achieving proper lighting in the dark room.
2. 3 THINGS I LEARNED
1: That you do not need a massive budget to make a good and
engaging music video.
2: That the use of mes en scene (props etc.) is very important to create
an interesting and creative music video.
3: I also learned how important it is to use a very wide range of camera
angles to ensure that the music video does not seem boring.
3. IDEA 1
The song I chose for idea 1 is ‘Let Her Go’ by Passenger which is an
alternative/indie genre of song.
I will style my artists to look sort of rocky/casual as seen in my picture.
In the music video I plan to have the artist standing in a field with
nothing performing the song and constant cuts from performing to a
narrative that is about a boy who has recently lost a close member of
family and is constantly looking through old pictures.
I think I meet the conventions of this genre as its about love and as the
song is called ‘Let Her Go’ and the narrative is exactly about that.
4. IDEA 2
The song I chose for idea 2 is ‘Wisemen’ by James Blunt which comes under
the 00’s pop genre.
I will style my artist to look like a rock artist or a sort of biker look like seen
in the picture.
I plan to have my artist also playing the guitar in the video and then a
narrative about 3 boys who bullied the artist and then get into a lot of
trouble and go down a bad path. Whilst the artist is doing well and going
down the right path (at things such as school etc.).
I think I meet the conventions for this genre as pop is usually very popular
so a lot of people listen to it and maybe able to relate to the story.
5. IDEA 3
The song I chose for idea 3 is ‘Paradise’ by Coldplay which is an
alternative/indie, rock song.
I will style my artist in casual teenage clothes as seen in the picture.
I plan do have an artist performing the song in a dark room with a light
on them and a narrative about a boy who feel trapped in his life who
runs away to “Paradise” with his girlfriend.
I think I meet the conventions for this genre as many people may relate
to this especially young teenagers.
6. WHICH IDEA DID I LIKE BEST AND WHY?
I liked idea 3 the best as I think it will be most challenging to make a
good relatable story for the audience to understand. I also think it will
be challenging to get good lighting in a dark room for the artist. I also
feel that paradise is a bit different to most other alternative/indie songs.
7. POTENTIAL RISKS
I think there is a potential risk of being able to get the audience to
totally understand what is happening in the narrative but I definitely
think it is possible if we do it right. I also think the filming in the dark
room may be hard but also possible if we can get the right equipment.
