She is a British rapper that combines jazz
and modern trap. Describes as “Urban
Jazz” by the artist herself.
IAMDDB portrays herself as a free soul
who doesn’t listen to anyone but herself.
She believes in individuality and
empowerment. Her music is about love,
everyday experiences and empowerment.
IAMDDB says that the “young enigma
earned the right to not pretend”.
Otherwise saying that we shouldn’t hide
our true self and show who we are.

3. G E N R E : R & B / N E O S O U L
R&B music videos often shows women in skimpy clothing and being submissive to
men. They are portrayed as the weaker gender and are seen as traditional women
who serve Men.

4. C O N C E P T
After researching about the artist, genre, song and her influences, I have decided to do
a concept music video for this song. By doing a concept music video, it will allow me to
approach the music video through a creative an artistic lens and it is a clearer way of
showing the artist’s personality and characteristics. I will use various lighting colours to
create aesthetic visuals for the audience; this will also hopefully help the audience to
stay captivated in watching the music video.
I plan to show the artist in her natural element, at home and/or with her friends. I plan
to create scenes of the actress playing the artist getting ready, dancing/vibing to the
sing, lip-syncing to the sing and the artist hanging around her friends . I want to portray
the actress in her natural element so that the audience can relate to the artist and the
sing further.

I looked at female. Artists’ to research how
the portray themselves in their own image.
I also looked at female artists because I
wanted to portray female empowerment
and I needed research on how I could
portray that in my music video.

6. O P E N I N G
In most of IAMDDB’s music video she opens the music video with the title of the song
and a summary of who featured and made it. I would like to incorporate this opening
style in my music video to further link the original style of the artist into my work.

7. L I G H T I N

I want to use both natural and
synthetic lighting. Often in
IAMDDB’s music video she
uses various of coloured
lighting in her music video.
This also helps with the visual
aesthetics and keeping my
audience interested in the
music video.

8. C O S T U M
E
IAMDDB has a distinct style of wearing hoodies and sweatpants. I
would like to use her style of wearing stylish casual and
comfortable clothes. The colour of the clothes will be black and
white with hints of vibrant colours. There will hardly be any make
up worn because I want a natural look to signify natural beauty.

9. C A M E R
A
I want mainly close up and medium shots, with a
wide shot to establish the setting and
background, because I want the focus on the
lyrics thats are being said. I want the focus on the
person rather than the background or anything
else. The close up shots will be used to focus on
the her face and her facial expression. The
medium shots will focus on the movement, body
language, how she expresses herself through the
music. The camera will be handheld to give it an
organic look, something made at home; it also
gives the music video a more casual look and
vibe to it.

10. E D I T I N G
I will mainly use close ups and mediums shots to
focus on the way she expresses herself through body
language and facial expressions.
I will use wide shots to establish setting.
I will edit my footage by enhancing colours
I want to experiment with the grain effect to make the
footage look more homemade.
