The document outlines 3 initial ideas for music videos. Idea #1 follows friends throughout a day, with performance shots of an artist singing by a campfire using natural lighting. Idea #2 features a band performing in various locations, cutting between members. Idea #3 uses both narrative and performance elements to tell the story of a boy meeting a girl at a club and following their relationship, with parts of the narrative matching song lyrics. The conclusion recommends pursuing Idea #1 as the most feasible given available props and lighting, and having the most interesting themes to appeal commercially.
2. Idea #1
•Narrative illustration and performance video.
•Indie Pop Genre - ’We are young’ by FUN with frequent cuts between the performance and the
narrative.
•The idea will be that we follow a group of friends that are having a good time, we will follow
them throughout the day so that the audience can see what they get up to. The video will start
with them meeting up and then follow them throughout the day.
•For the performance aspect of the video the artist will be singing around a camp fire, for this we
will rely on natural lighting. Through the use of natural lighting we will try and make our video
looks as professional as possible.
•Commercially we will try and appeal to our target audience by wearing fashionable but everyday
clothing such as jeans, t shirt and a hat, our USP for this idea will be the artist hat.
4. IDEA #2
•For my second idea our video will just be performance
•Indie/Pop Genre – ‘Let Her Go’ by Passenger, with a variety of different base tracks.
•The idea will be that we have a bad with three people, in which the band perform in a variety of
different locations that will be shown throughout the video to help make the video more
interesting. We will constantly cut between each member of the band so that we can help
promote each member of the group.
•We will commercialize our product through our song and the theme of our video. We will also
commercialize our video by giving our band a outfit that will relate to our target audience that is
men ages 16-24.
•The lighting in the video will be mostly artificial, and we use lots of different coloured lighting so
that we can make our video more interesting so that we can really interact with our target
audience.
6. Idea #3
•Our final performance will be both narrative and performance with the performance being
within the narrative.
•R&B– ‘Beautiful Girls’ by Sean Kingston
•For this video we will use both artificial lighting and natural lighting, and film in a variety of
different locations. The idea will be that a boy meets a girl a club, and then the narrative follows
them on there relationship. Parts of the narrative will be equal to the lyrics.
• Our product will be commercialized because of the song and the universal theme we are trying
to explore which is relationships. Our artist will be dressed in a shirt a jeans when he is in the
club and then will wear a different outfit depending on where he is.
• Our target audience for this will be both genders aged 15-21.
8. Conclusion
•In conclusion I feel as if our first idea is the most possible because of the props and lighting we
have available as a group. It is also one of the more challenging videos we can do. The video and
the themes of the video I also feel are a lot of interesting than my other ideas so therefor I feel
as if the commercial aspect of the video would be better than the other videos.
