3. 3. Information on Connor
Connor Manning is a 17 year old boy from a very musical family
Connor’s first love of music was for R&B, listening to artists such as Usher, Craig David, Jamiroquai and Stevie Wonder.
His taste of music developed into rock, discovering bands like Metallica, Foo Fighters, RHCP and Limp Bizkit.
Manning’s first ever gig was seeing Busted & McFly when he was only 13 with some friends from school but still did not care for performing until he went to a Metallica gig; where he wanted to jump on the stage and perform with them to see all the crowd jumping up and down for him and he quotes “I loved the image of me on stage shredding solo's and jumping about on stage”
His brother, who worked at the Barbican Theatre in London at the time, told Connor of a musician called Raul Midon. When he checked it out, he loved his stuff and asked his brother if he could get some tickets for me, and he did. Connor quotes “I was completely mesmerised by his performance. That gig really inspired me to start playing again, so at the age of 14 I properly started playing guitar.”
Then he toured with his band at the time to Barcelona in 2007 and supported Suzie Quatro, Hot Chocolate and Showaddywaddy in front of 3,000 people.
When they broke up, he decided to focus on his music and make some songs. Years later, he finally got it a few of his songs studio recorded and the song “Acceptably” that I decided I was going to make the music video on was one of them.
4. 4. Indie also know as individuals have two main music genres: pop and rock. My artist is indie pop which shows brighter colours on clothes and medium length hair.
For Connor Manning’s video I have chosen for bright coloured clothes within the first few scenes and then basic whites, blacks and greys afterwards.
Examples of Indie Pop bands/artists’ clothes, hair and facial expressions for the research for Connor Manning’s music video.
Florence and the machine
Noah and the whale
Plain White T’s
Laura Marling
Hellogoodbye
Rilo Kiley
5. 5. A diary of meetings with Connor Manning
19/09/09 –Went to Starbucks
On this day, Connor and I discussed his life and why he choose to make music. He spoke about what his influences were, his genre, upcoming shows, when he became a solo artist, what social networking sites he used which were Facebook and MySpace and general information about him. Then we spoke about my three ideas and which one he thought sounded best and he chose my realistic music video where the lyrics and the visual are linked.
23/09/09 – Went to Nando’s
The last time I met him, we did not really brake the ice, so we went to Nando’s to help make our friendship stronger. On 23rd September; Connor really opened up and now we are really good friends. He is very reliable and if I need anything for my media project; he is content to make sure I get very thing that I have asked for.
Image above: Connor Manning
6. 6. A diary of meetings with Connor Manning
01/11/09 – Went to Costa coffee
On November 1st, I showed Manning three mood boards and information of my three ideas. Connor and I agreed the idea we were going to make was the realistic one as he liked the idea as he wanted to be apart of the music video and the idea of the lyrics and visual matching each other. I filmed Connor Manning on this day. I also spoke about filming test footage and asked when he wanted to meet up next, he asked if he could come with me to see where, I was going to set the music video and I agreed.
12/11/09 – Film test footage
On this day, Me and Connor filmed various places like a park, my house, an unused road, and the TV studio at City College; where I can use a black, white or green screen for the music video. Connor decided that we should use my house using my front door and my bedroom. He also liked the idea of the TV studio as I could use the black screen of Connor just singing with his guitar.
Image above: Connor Manning
