1. How did you use new media
technologies in the construction and
research, planning and evaluation
stages?
2. How the internet helped us in our
planning and research
• In order to make sure that our products were professional and were related to real media
texts we used the internet to look at successful products and analysed them to help us see
what we should include in our own products.
• As part of our planning we had to look at the music and sound that we wanted to include in
the trailer. Before we did this we researched the sorts of sounds that films similar to our
included. We did this using the internet and websites such as soundCloud and YouTube. We
began the trailer with an upbeat and happy song which we then turned to eerie music and
ended with an fast paced and intense sound. All the sounds that we used in the trailer we
sound on the internet, we also used the internet to convert these sounds into usable files.
• we used survey monkey which is an online site which allows you to create surveys and polls.
We used this in order to gather research on many areas throughout the planning and
research stage. One of the times that we used survey monkey was to find out our target
audience and what they thought about film trailers. The results that we got back helped us
to see the age range of people that were most interested in film trailers and in the thriller
genre as well as showing us how people react to trailers.
3. How technologies helped us with our
research and planning
• Blogger
We used blogger to upload all of the research and planning that we created. The blogger was able to keep all the work
together in one location and allowed us to look back at the research we had completed and to apply it to the plans that
we were making and eventually to our final products. Blogger also allowed us to make changes to the research and
planning that we had uploaded which was beneficial.
• Prezi
We used Prezi to collect all of our initial ideas together. We chose to use prezi to do this as it allowed us to put all the
elements of the planning of the initial ideas into one location. We also chose to use this as it was very creative and
simple and easy to use.
• Slideshare
We created a power point presentation of parts of the planning we had done into the storyline of the film and the
setting o the film. Once we had created this PowerPoint we found that we were unable to upload a PowerPoint straight
onto the blogger so instead we upload the presentation to slideshare which we were then able to embed and upload to
the blogger.
• Survey monkey
Survey monkey allowed us to research our target audience and to get some feedback from them. On survey monkey we
created questionnaires which gave use feedback that we could analyse. An example of a survey that we created were
for our target audience research this gave us feedback on what it was that our target wanted to see in a film trailer.
4. Tools we used in Photoshop to
manipulate our images
• Crop
We used the crop tool when editing the images for both the poster and the magazine cover. We used the crop tool when creating
our images to make sure that we only had the parts of the images that we needed in the products. This was also useful as it
meant that we could easily scale the size of the image to fit onto the pages.
• Brightness and contrast
The genre of our film was a thriller and one of the conventions of this was that they use dark and dull colours. Our original images
were much to bright to fit in with the story line that we had and did not look like a part of a thriller magazine or poster. To make
our images dark for both the poster and the magazine cover we used the brightness and contrast settings and brought the
brightness down and the contrast up.
• Duplicate layers
For the poster image we wanted to have the actor covering part of the magazine name title. We did this so that it created a sense
that the magazine was popular and well known. We created a duplicate layer and then cut the background out of the top layer
image.
• Lasso tool
We used the lasso tool to cut around the image that we used on the film poster. We did this so that the main focus of the poster
would be the actors face, this was so that the audience could see the mans emotions and it was able to give insight into the
character before people have even watched the trailer or film.
5. How we used the video camera
equipment to capture particular shots
6. Technologies we used for our
evaluation
For my evaluation I have used a variety of technologies which are : slideShare, Prezi
and Blogger. I have used these technologies when producing my evaluation as I felt it
was more creative and allowed me to present my work in a much more interesting
way. Slide share allowed me to upload power points onto my blog which I thought
was good as it meant that I was able to break down the sections to my evaluation
very quickly and easily. It is also easy to use and allowed me to include a large amount
of text which I needed. Prezi allowed me to be creative in how I presented my work
for example its transitions from one section to another. Prezi was also a good
technology to use for my evaluation as I was able to include text, images and videos.
Blogger allowed me to collate all my evaluation together in one location with t he rest
of my work. This is good as it means that people can easily reference back to my final
production work when looking at the evaluation.
