2. Research and Planning
On the process of making a music video, we used a variety of media
programs for the production of our music video. In terms of research and
planning, the internet was our main tool in exploring our genre of Hip
Hop/Rap and developed ideas from it.
• YouTube- we used it to research artists and songs that fall into the same
genre we chose to do. We also used this to upload our video diaries from
filming days. As we all were familiar with YouTube and knew how to use it,
we didn’t face any problems using it.
•Google- In terms of researching about the history of our chosen genre (Hip
Hop), Google was useful in learning about the historical context and
production of the genre.
•Webs- is a website which allows people to make their own website using
their templates. This is what we used for our planning aspects of our music
video. As this was a new website introduced to us, we were not aware of
how to use it properly, thus took us all some time to get used to the
functions of the website.
•Slide share- This is a website based on sharing PowerPoint presentations
online. We used this to upload our presentations in relation to the research
we conducted of our genre. This website was pretty simple to use, all that
was required to do was to upload the PowerPoint and share it on our webs
account.
•Microsoft word- When planning what we are going to film, when and
everything we are going to do for this project we used Microsoft word to
record this so we could have a hard copy. This was simple as it was just
simply typing what we were saying.
3. Construction
We used these two cameras for the
construction aspects. The image on the
top is a digital HD camera we used of our
artist for our print tasks and to capture
things like costumes, settings and so
forth to upload onto our webs. The
camera below is a HD video camera we
used to record our footage.
This is a tripod we used called the stabiliser. This
tripod enabled us to record the moving shots freely
without worrying about moving the whole tripod
itself. The lights we used were for the dance
scenes. As we did not use professional lights
before, we did not know how to use the functions
properly. However after playing with the controller
keyboard, we managed to find out how to use
them.
Using final cut pro was something
our group was already familiar with.
However this time, we needed to
make sure that we had had used
more effects and transitions in order
to reflect our knowledge of final cut
pro. Not all members of our group
were aware of how to use
Photoshop, which was time
consuming but we all had a go at it.
4. Evaluation
For our evaluation questions, we used different programs and websites, so that the
concept of each question can be seen in a different approach. We evaluated our
work from each stage thoroughly by allocating the four questions to each member
of our group.
1) In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real media products?
- For this question, we used Prezi, which is a website where you can make
presentations using their templates. Our teacher had suggested that we use as
it is different than the ordinary Microsoft PowerPoint . This was a new website
introduced to us so only those who felt confident using Prezi used it for their
chosen evaluation question.
2) How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?
- We also used Prezi for this question again, as we thought it’ll be convenient to
relate the text to the images of our digipak and magazine advert.
3) What have you learned from your audience feedback?
- For this question, we decided to do a video on the audience feedback we
received on each stage on the construction of our music video. We then
uploaded our video evaluation question on YouTube. This was not time
consuming, as we already knew what we had to say.
4) How did you use media technologies in the construction and research,
planning and evaluation stages?
- For this question, we used PowerPoint to present the series of media
technologies we used in the process of our music video. We thoroughly went
through all the programs, software's and equipment we used and stated how
we used them.
