How did you use new media technologies in the construction, research,
planning and evaluation stages?

QUESTION 4
RESEARCH AND PLANNING
• We used a variety of softwares and formats in the research and planning stages of our
product such as:
• Youtube
• Prezi
• Scribed
• The Internet
• Powtoon
• Slideshare
• Microsoft Word/PowerPoint/Excel
• Blogger
• We used a website called Blogger.com to record all of
our work such as research and planning, inspiration
and ideas down and anything else that contributed to
our production of our music video. Through the use of
this website, we were enabled to keep track of what we
were doing in an orderly fashion. It also allowed us to
organize our work so that we could see what we had
done and this helped us identify what else needed to
be completed.
• We used Microsoft formats such as word, excel and powerpoint to
present our research and planning on our blog. We used powerpoint
to create presentations that consisted of research and inspiration we
had gathered prior to making our music video and also information we
had collected about existing music genres and artists, then uploading
them onto SlideShare to be able to upload it onto our blog. We used
word to present a table that we created to list down all the footage we
had recorded and the duration, shot and image of each individual
footage. We also used word to create a table so we could plan what
we wanted each shot of our music video to look like, how long it would
last and what the shot would show, then uploading these documents
onto Scribd so that it could be uploaded onto the blog. Excel was used
to create charts and graphs to present the information we had about
our target audience feedback that we had collected from surveys in
order to respond to the feedback we had received and use it to make
our music video more appropriate for our particular target audience.
• We used YouTube to find different music videos
to analyse them prior to beginning our research
and planning. We did this so that we could
become familiar with different types of music
videos, genres, shots and narratives etc. We
analysed different music videos in huge detail so
that we could be inspired when it came to
making our own. We analysed mise en scene
and basic conventions, shots, angels, narratives
and lip syncing.
• We used the internet all throughout the production of
our music video such as using it to help generate ideas
of what we wanted our music video to look like and
gathering information to go towards our research and
analysis of current music videos, posters and digipaks.
We did this by looking for different codes and
conventions that we could possibly used for our own
products to make them look as realistic and
professional as possible. We also used the internet to
collect target audience feedback from our peers
through surveys that we created online and then
sending them out to our peers via email.
CONSTRUCTION
• We used a variety of equipment to construct our product such as:
• Video Camera
• Adobe Premiere
• Adobe Photoshop
• Youtube Tutorials
• We used a video camera and tripod that was
provided by our school’s technology department
to record our whole music video to a high
standard so that it would look as professional as
possible. The tripod helped achieved this as it
prevented our footage from being shaky which
helped us to record footage that was good
quality and looked professional and realistic.
• We used YouTube to research tutorials for
photoshop as we were unfamiliar with the
software and this enabled us to use it without
having any major issues as we had existing
videos on how to use it if we had any problems.
• We used Adobe Premiere to edit our music video which
wasn’t much of an issue for us as we had used it for our
previous media project. We inserted all of our footage into
the software into chronological order and added our track to
a new file so that we could play around with the different
clips and choose which clips matched with the song so that
we could add them in and construct our music video. We
used the crop tool often to get rid of any
irrelevant/additional moments that didn’t fit into our video.
We also did this to make the different shots we had to
change on some of the beats of the song. We also added a
filter to our video as the feedback we had from our teacher
suggested it was a bit dull, so we added a filter so that it
had some colour to it. We also adjusted the brightness,
contrast and saturation to change the colouring of the
shots.
• We used photoshop to create our entire digipak with
the intentions to make it look as professional as
possible through the use of different tools that it
provides. For each part of the digipak we used the
blending tool on the text to make it slightly blend with
the background. Photoshop helped us to get an
accurate appearance and form for the front, back and
inlay of the digipak so that it would result in looking as
professional and realistic as possible to be used for an
actual artist.
EVALUATION
• We used different formats for our evaluation such as:
• Slideshare
• Blogger
• Microsoft / Scribd
• I used Slideshare in question 4 of my evaluation so that I
would be enabled to write in a lot of detail and use as
many slides as I needed whilst making it look presentable
by choosing a theme for my entire slideshow on
PowerPoint. I did this with the intentions of uploading my
powerpoint presentation onto Slideshare so that I could
embed it and eventually upload it onto the blog so that it
could be viewed as a presentation online.
• I used Blogger to produce question 3 of my evaluation,
this was the appropriate format to use for this question
as it enabled me to write in a lot of detail and add in
images of my poster whilst doing it in an organised and
orderly fashion as I am used to using this format
because I have used all throughout my coursework and
production of my media products during AS and A2.
• I used Scribd and Microsoft Word to write question 2 of my evaluation. This
was the appropiate format to use as I wanted to include detailed information
that would be presented in a neat and well presented manor. It was also
useful as it was easy to use as I am familiar with this software. I then
uploaded it onto Scribd so that I could embed the link and make it viewable
online.
