1. Q4. How did you use media
technologies in the
construction and research,
planning and evaluation
stages?
2. Research
• During the research stage of creating our music video my group and I
used several different websites and apps to give an idea into what we
may like to achieve and how to do so.
• We began by looking on YouTube into already existing music videos which
gave us an idea into what kind of genre we would like to use and whether
we wanted to create a performance based music video or a narrative
based music video. We then started using Google to further research our
genre and what artists and bands there were that fit into that genre.
• We took our research onto Spotify where we listened to the different sub-
topics of our chosen genre, before settling on using the genre Indie Rock
and choosing the singer Lorde as our chosen artist. We listened to a few
of her songs before settling on ‘Tennis Court’ as we felt we could create a
clear narrative with the lyrics in the song.
• Throughout this process I documented my research on Blogger so that
we could expand on our ideas and I could share my research with other
group members.
3. Blogs & Filming
• Using Blogger to post blogs was useful as we could embed pictures
and videos to show where we were getting our ideas and
inspiration from and how we could apply these ideas to our own
final product. Being able to embed videos also meant we could
post vlogs which had been uploaded to our media channel. By
vlogging we are able to explain where we are with our filming and
what we still have yet to do. It is often much easier filming rather
than writing a blog post as you are able to explain in much more
detail and often show the process of your filming.
• Blogger was also very helpful when it came to labelling posts as I
was able to go and find a post very quickly rather than looking
through my blog.
4. Hardware
• All of our editing and other tasks such as our digipak were completed on
an iMac as it had a particular type of software we needed to use in order
to achieve our final product. To add to that, we were able to insert the SD
card from our camera straight into the iMac.
• At the beginning of the year we were given a Nikon DSLR to film all of our
footage on. DSLR cameras have chips that can shoot video at frame sizes
very similar to 35mm film which is so large that you are able to achieve a
very sharp and crisp images that holds much more detail in comparison to
a flip camera or a camcorder.
• To film all our footage we had a variation of tripods whether that be a
gorilla pod, monopod or our regular tripod to get all of our still shots. In
order for a high quality, non-shaky image you need a still camera so we
made sure to use our tripod when we had any close-up shots of our artist.
5. Software
• iMovie was the main software which we uploaded and edited all of
our footage in. As iMovie was the software we used in AS, I was
already aware of the features it held so I felt a lot more
comfortable using it rather than any other editing software.
• Photoshop was also used but was used for our ancillary tasks which
were the production of our digipak and magazine advert. This
software allowed us to produce our products efficiently, especially
as I was able to access help on YouTube and Google if I was unable
to do something.
6. Evaluations
• In the evaluation process of my research I decided to use
PowerPoint due to the different features it held and I felt like I had
more experience working with them. However, once I have
finished answering the evaluation question I’m not able to upload
it straight to my blog. Therefore I had to do some research and I
found that I could upload it to LinkedIn first before getting the
embed code and adding it to my blog.
