Evaluation question 4
1. Evaluation Question 4
How did you use media technology
in the construction and
research, planning and evaluation
stages
2. Research
• Survey monkey- I used survey monkey as a way to collect primary research from our target
audience to influence our video to make sure it followed conventions that would appeal to them.
• Facebook-we used Facebook as a place to post our survey as this meant it was accessible to a
wide range of people. I used facebook to send the survey specifically to Kate Nash fans as they
were our target audience and would give the most affective feedback.
• YouTube-YouTube played a vital part in our research. It made us able to watch videos from out
chosen artist and artists of a similar genre in order to take note of the codes and conventions used
in the videos so we knew what to include in our own video in order to make it look authentic.
• Internet- Kate Nash fan page- The internet in general was very useful as I meant we could
research Kate Nash and find secondary research to support our own. For example her fan pages
gave us a further idea of the target audience as well as being a place we could post our survey to
get more data from people who know Kate Nash's video well.
• Google-I used Google on many occasions throughout my research to help me find resources on
the internet that would be useful and relevant.
• Google images-Google images was used in order to locate images from Kate Nash’s digi packs
and adverts to help up learn the code and conventions she used so they could be followed in our
own work.
• Google maps-Google maps was very useful for finding locations we may want to film as it
allowed us to have a clear view of streets easily
I used all these technologies in order to collaborate my research with the
research of others to enable me to collect primary and secondary data
3. Planning
• Google images- this allowed us to source images similar to the ones we intended to use in our
promotional package in order to created mock ups and drafts of our ideas.
• Photoshop- Photoshop was used extensively throughout the planning of our ancillary
texts as we used it to create the mock ups of our promotional package.
• Scanner- having access to a scanner allowed us to upload our hand drawn
storyboards on to our blogs which means we can show the full planning process we
have undertaken.
• Blogger-blogger allowed us to display our previously done research, the
mock ups of our ancillary texts, story boards and shooting schedule in an
easily accessible and creative way. By using blogger we were able to upload
images and videos and write our work along side them.
4. Construction
• DSLR camera – the camera was crucial to our construction as it was
how we filmed our video. By using a digital SLR camera instead of an older
video tape recorder it meant that we did not have to shoot all of our shots in
sequence and meant that we were able to watch what we had already recorded
on location in order to decide whether the shots were of good enough quality.
The camera also meant our video was in HD and therefore of much better
quality then if we had used a video tape or camcorder. The camera were also
used to take still images for our promotional package.
• Photoshop- we used Photoshop to construct our final digi pack and album
advert, we used tools such as the lasso to cut out parts of our images and used a
variety of tools to give our photos suitable effects.
• Mobile phones- our group used mobile phones a lot during the production of
our video as a way of communicating and arranging the filming times and
locations. On the first day of filming we were also unable to use our MP3 players
to play our song so we used YouTube through our mobile phone internet as a
way of playing our song.
• Final cut pro- this allowed us to upload our digital camera footage onto a
Macbook pro and edit our footage into our final video.
• Blogger- again we used blogger as a way to display our final video and our
accounts of our tow days spent filming.
5. Evaluation
• Blogger- I used blogger to go back through my work in order to
evaluate the work I had produced and also as a place to post my
evaluation.
• Power Point- I used PowerPoint to create slideshows as a way to present my
evaluation as it allowed me to incorporate a mixture of image and text. However in
order to upload these slideshows to my blog I first had to put them onto Slide
Share.
• Survey monkey- I used survey monkey again as a way to collect feedback on my
video, I posted the survey along with the video on YouTube and KateNash’s fan
site so our target audience could give us feedback on whether of not they thought our
video fitted their genre convention expectations.
