2. Pictures for the front cover
The picture on the left is of the rock band members standing in front of a black gate. This links
with the house colour of my magazine and also the genre of “Rock” as it has connotations of
darkness. In both pictures, the models are using direct address to engage with the target
audience. They are wearing clothing that fits in with the genre, i.e: ripped black jeans and a
leather jacket. I have taken one picture outside and the same picture in the photography
room, as I wanted to see how good the lighting was going to be in both locations. And if it
wasn’t as effective outdoors, then I would have the option of cutting the models out of the
white screen picture and placing them on the black gate background.
3. Pictures for the contents page
The picture on the left was taken with the guitar case on to symbolize the model
traveling back to talk about her past, which links with the article of “Soffia Farmer looks
back to where it all began.” On the picture on the right, the guitar Is showing and this
adds to the genre of rock. The long shot shows the mis-en-scene of her outfit.
4. Once again, I used the photography room to take the same shot as I was
concerned that the lighting was not going to be bright and effective outside.
5. These pictures, show the model holding a guitar and using direct address to engage
with the target audience. They link to the genre of rock, as the facial expression of
the model looks sullen, her clothes are typically associated with the genre of rock,
eg: The leather jacket, her chunky black boots and the black choker around her neck.
This is reinforcing the stereotype of rock singers wearing these clothes. The mis-en-
scene of her makeup (eyeliner and natural looking lips) makes her eyes stand out and
adds to the genre.

7. These pictures show the band members singing into the microphone. One of
the pictures were taken in the theatre hall, but the lighting was very dim and
gloomy and the camera quality went blurred and distorted which meant that I
had to result to taking the same pictures in the photography studio. The prop
of the microphone is effective in terms of reinforcing the idea of the magazine
being music based.
8. Double page spread pictures
These picture have also been taken In the photography room. It uses levels, as the
model in the middle is sitting on a chair and the model on the right is showing a
rock and roll gesture with his hand which fits in with the genre. Also the two
females are wearing a bold purple lipstick which stands out and makes it different
from the contents page pictures and the main image on the front cover.
