1. What my magazine will be about?
Main objectives:
capture the 1998 zeitgeist of the old
school
as my blogger is called ‘Generation’ i
want it to be about how old school rap
played a big part in the rap industry
now. How the past influenced the
present.
vintage/Retro style clothing to show
how the fashion was in the 1990’s era
hair to be big but not too flashy.
make the colours pop out. but dull
colours that was the theme in 90’s dull
bold colours. morepver they use neon
style colours, such as neon green.
Unlike the glossy type of colours they
use now

4. Content Page:
This content page is what i want my one to look like as it
has the aspects that i require. Such as the clothing is
vintage and urban kind of look.
furthermore the background of the image is great as it's
very dark and represents the kind of touch nature of the
industry he’s in of hip hop and rap.
the way the content page is set out is an idea of how i
want mine to look like, although most content pages are
set out this way, this one does a good job of focusing
the image on the rapper that is presented. this is
because of the low angle shot the photographer has
done with this image and shows the dominance of the
character.
The colour scheme of the content page is very sensible,
as it creates a very dark mood. the yellow is the contrast
of the dark colours which creates a good effect to make
the yellow bolder.
5. Representation/Narrative.
The person i have chosen for my magazine cover comes from a dark
rough area of compton trying to get out of the hood. This is the what i
want to capture in my magazine cover as it portrays a strive to become a
somebody.
I’m using an african/american male as my front cover to show not just the
rap industry in the usa but also the oppression that black males suffered
due to racism, discrimination and so on.. moreover by using a black make
it will create a more powerful effect to show the country that ‘anyone can
be anything no matter who you are or where you come from’.
i want to create the idea that coming from a rough background filled with
drugs, gangs and guns doesn't mean that they end up like that aswell. i
want to show the passion for this ‘american dream’.
6. Conventions (background/settings)
i want a dark background, places such as
a brick wall such has no character to it so
my model will create character.
furthermore i can also use a black
background and use photoshop to alter the
image.
I want a shadow in my front cover to
represent his past and the model as the
bright future..
7. Convention
I’m using 2 models for my shoot, for my photoshoot i will be using a black male, as my magazine is a old
school rap genre i want to capture that zeitgeist of african/american male rappers who made such a big
impact to the 1990’s generation. in addition to that i also know that my target audience are into that old
school rap genre therefore by making my magazine into that old school theme i know people will want to
buy and read my magazine as people like the picture and content of it.
im also going to be using a white female to be my model as in the 1990’s it was big cultural insparation to
dress the way people did in the 1990’s. by using a white female i can alter that generation to introduce
more customers to read my magazine.
