2. 1. BBC 1
Here are some BBC 1 documentaries:
One of the potential channels that our documentary could be aired on,
is BBC 1. The documentaries that have been aired in the past include
some being light-hearted and comedic and others being serious and
factual. If our group choses to create a documentary that has both of
these elements, it would fit into the BBC 1 documentary category.
Also, my documentary is not based on a day to day major issue that
affects our everyday lives. It's unique and would be popular with
gamers, especially those that play violent video games. This is another
reason as to why it would fit into the category of BBC 1`s
documentaries. Other documentaries that are unique include
“Bigorexia: never buff enough” and “Transgender: Back to Jamaica.”
Also, BBC 1 remains the most watched channel- 75 percent of people in
the UK watch each week. Which means if our documentary was aired
on this channel, and we spread our message of how violence in
videogames affects youths, more people are likely to watch it. It also
says here, that audiences felt that BBC one promotes education and
learning, which is exactly what our documentary aims to do.
3. 2. BBC 3
Examples of BBC 3 documentaries:
A lot of the documentary examples can be considered to provoke
emotion in the audience, for example
- A world without down syndrome
- Animal babies
- Reggie Yates- Life and death in Chicago
In our documentary, we may add some case studies of mass
shootings that have occurred in the past, that are linked to video
games. This is obviously a sensitive topic and it would link to the
types of documentaries that BBC 3 has aired. It is likely to get a
reaction from people.
BBC 3 is also known to producing factual content, and with our
documentary being about violence in video games and how it affects
youths, there is likely to be many facts and statistics involved which
would once again be another reason as to why BBC 3 would be an
ideal channel to air our documentary on.
4. 3. CHANNEL 4
Channel 4 documentaries that have aired:
A lot of the documentaries are comedic and light-hearted
on channel 4, for example, “Extreme food "and “Big Fat
Gypsy weddings” If our group was to take a humorous
approach to our documentary, for example by adding
cartoons etc, then channel 4 would be the right channel
to air it on. The documentaries all look very visual and
colourful, for example “The secret life of 4,5 and 6 year
olds” and the superimposed quote “Brand New” on “
Married at first sight Australia” Our documentary will
have a lot of visual representations of violence, so this
would be suitable for the channel. Lastly, channel 4
seems to be a channel for mainly a younger audience, as
the types of documentaries seem “extreme” and “crazy”
for example Big fat Gypsy weddings, and our
documentary will be targeted at young people so this
would be appropriate.
