1. EVALUATION Q6
What have you learnt about technologies from the process of
constructing this product?
Baldeep Gahir.
2. Throughout the course of my research and planning and construction of my
front cover, contents page and double page spread I have used many different
forms of technologies and have learned a lot of new features that I did not
previously know how to use before. These helped me to create my final
product. The technologies that I used are listed in the forthcoming slides:
3. Computer (pc):
Presentations: Powerpoint, Zoho show, Emaze,
Slideshare,Blogger,Prezi,Canva and google slides.
Photoshop: This was used to manipulate my pictures and construct my front
cover and contents page.
InDesign: This was used to create my double page spread.
Word: To type up my text before copying and pasting into a presentation
software
4. Photoshop: Gradient effect
• A major piece of technology that I learned a lot about was Photoshop. I used
many features such as how to add a gradient effect, using the lasso and clone
tool, manipulating my images by cropping out and adding in backgrounds,
changing the colour of certain objects as part of the mis-en-scene of the picture.
For example, I learned how to add a black and white gradient for the background
of my front cover, this was because after looking at a range of real life products
that didn’t have solid colours for the background, I tried to emulate them and
therefore I chose this particular effect. The impact that this decision had was that
it makes the bright red masthead stand out from the black colour and the models
stand out from the white gradient.
5. Photoshop: Polygon lasso
I also learned how to use the polygon lasso which really helped me to neaten
and tidy up my images and to make them look more professional. For example,
one of the models hair was sticking out so I used this particular tool to outline
that piece of hair and using the magic eraser tool I rubbed it out. This feature
was useful as I used it for many other images to polish them up.
6. Photoshop: Backgrounds
Also, I learned how to add in and cut backgrounds out on my contents
page. This impacted my magazine as I had a variety of images that were
individual, unique and different from each other.Eg: I learned how to place the
image of a distorted rock background on one picture, and learned how to
completely crop the background off another picture.
7. Photoshop: Changing the colour of objects
• Manipulating my images was difficult for me at first as I was not sure on what to
change.Although, after experimenting with different features and educating
myself on how they work, what they are used for and how they could be applied
to my images to change them. For example, I learned how to change the colour
of certain objects (the mis-en-scene) of particular items ie: on the front cover I
darkened the models eyes to create a more intense and dramatic effect that
would make them stand out and link to my genre. And on the contents page, I
changed to colour of the models guitar from a light brown to a dark/almost
black colour.
8. Indesign:
Another piece of technology that I used for my construction and what I learned
a lot about was Indesign. I have learned how to create columns for my text (to
stick to the codes and conventions as much as I could), applying a drop cap,
using swatch colours to highlight particular parts of text.
9. InDesign: Creating columns
I learned how to create columns on this programme; I made three columns on
my double page spread to stick to the codes and conventions as much as
possible. (How it was done) The use of this was not only to do that, but to
ensure that the layout was organized and professional looking. After looking at
real products, it gave me inspiration to take this decision.

10. InDesign: Drop caps
I also learned how to apply a drop cap for the first letter of my magazine which
once again was applied after looking at other magazines which have done the
same thing.

11. InDesign:Colour swatches
Using the colour swatches was another feature that I learned how to use, this
was done by highlighting the text that you wish to change colour and go on to
the swatch bar at the top and change it. This had an impact on my double
page spread as I highlighted the quotes and this mad them stand out from the
page resulting In attracting and enticing my target audience to read on.

12. Camera:
Camera: Lastly, I used a professional camera to take my pictures of my models
for all three of the pages. Along the way I learned different shot types and
make sure that the images would fit and be best suited for each page. For
example, I took a medium long shot of my models for my double page spread
so that it would fit the page as it is the main image and takes us one half of my
double page spread.
