2. The Filed was launched in the early 1800s which
was a newspaper that was aimed at middle class
people, mainly men.
In the late 1800s, magazines such as The
Railway Magazine and Country Life were
launched targeting a similar niche market of
middle class, white men.
In the early 1900s, the format changed to
magazines and women began to become a target
audience because of political issues during that
time. Magazines such as, Woman’s own and ideal
home were launched which began to target a
new audience of white middle class women.
3. In the 1950s music magazines began to be
released because of the musical boom in the
country. New Musical Express (NME) attracted a
new, younger audience than ever before who
were mostly men of a white, middle class
background. This was because of a change in
attitudes and industry.
The invention of the printing press was what
prompted the creation of magazines.
The change in technology means that It will
attract a wider audience.
IPC has nearly always expanded its target
audiences to reach all different kinds of people
of different ethnicities, genders, social classes
and groups.
In 200, IPC Magzines was renamed as IPC Media.
4. It is made up of the UK’s three leading
publishers.
Because of their previous success and
tremendous background of successful
magazines and feedback, they wouldn't have
an issue when launching any new magazines.
They would be able to reach out to all
different groups of people because they have
previous experience when addressing
different types of people.
5. Because of NME’s success, IPC are likely to
publish more rock or indie magazines
because they know what will make it
successful.
A closer genre would be pop which I think
would also be really easy for IPC to approach
partly because the target audience is pretty
simple and easier to approach than any other
genre.
6. Bauer media is also a huge and well known
publisher which distributes on a global level
and currently offer 300 magazines in 15
countries. They cover a range of different
interest points such as, fashion and lifestyle,
sports and racing etc.
7. Botha are very influential publishing brands
who have very amazing success rates but I
would like to publish my music magazine
through Bauer because they are more
experienced in the music industry than IPC
and would have better knowledge of my
chosen genre.
