1. Question 3: What kind of media
institution might distribute your media
product and why?
2. Question 3: What kind of media institution might distribute your
media product and why?
IPC Media was formed in 1963, it is now one of the UK’s leading consumer magazine
and digital publisher formed, IPC Media holds more than 60 iconic media brands
across print, platforms, online, mobile and tablets. IPC Media is a Time Warner
Company, which is one of the 6 Media conglomerate companies.
I have looked at a number of media companies who produce and distribute music
magazines such as, Bauer Media Group, BBC and IPC Media. IPC Media struck me
as it only has one music magazine, the rock magazine NME aged at young males.
Showing there is a gap within IPC’s publishing division portfolio for ‘indie’ music
magazines.
I think IPC would be a suitable media institution to distribute my product, as they
already have a successful chain of magazine companies and would know how to
successfully market and advertise my product, also being part of a media
conglomerate advertising my product would be made easier, as they could advertise
my product using synergy. IPC Media also have a strong understanding of social
groups, as their magazine products vary widely in terms of genre and target
audience.
My research has shown there is a gap in the market for ‘indie’ music
magazines, aimed at males and females aged 16-20. I think my product would offer
IPC Media a way too attract a bigger music magazine target audience, they currently
already own ‘Teen Now’ which is a gossip magazine aimed at females aged 13-16.
Whereas, Alternative has a large target audience of females aged 16-20, which
would help them capture the attention of a younger female music magazine
audience, which they are currently lacking, the female audience could also progress
to read some of IPC’S other women’s magazines as they become older. Taking on
my product will also expand IPC Media’s vertical integration.
