2. Front Cover
By choosing to mention the latest artists in
the base line of my front cover, I am
attracting my target audience as they would
typically be interested in finding and
listening to new music.
I have included top charts as part of my cover
lines as my audience would be interested in
most current affairs, including music.
This cover line is attracting my audience as the artist ‘Marina and the Diamonds’ is part of
the primary music genre. As well as this, by mentioning ‘tears and tantrums’, it is giving the
audience an insight into her life as a person; this is something my audience would find
attractive.
My masthead would attract my audience in two ways:
1) The term ‘obliviate’ is a subtle reference to the infamous book and movie franchise,
Harry Potter. This is a big part of the culture of my target age group (18-25) as they
were growing up as the franchise developed.
2) The term is means to forget. This would appeal to my target audience as a large
chunk of their preferred music would be deeply emotional and help wipe away and
forget unwanted emotions. This therefore links the masthead to the music genre.
My colour scheme throughout my
magazine is gender neutral. This is
appealing to my target audience as I am
actively trying to attract both genders to
my magazine.
3. Contents Page
I included a section based on events (e.g. tours and
festivals) on my contents page. This makes a direct link
between the music genres that my target audience
would be interested in as well as their culture and
lifestyle. This is further shown through the language
used. For example, ‘hangovers’.
My images would also attract my target audience. The
main image on the left is a pose that is unconventional
and not seen in many other magazines. This would link to
my audiences need to be different in lifestyle who are in
search for a magazine a little different and edgy. The
smaller image on the right would also be appealing to my
audience due to the context. The artist sitting on the sofa
with a cup of tea is reflective of part of the daily lifestyle
of my audience.
4. Double Page Spread
The clothing choices of my artist are
informal, casual and reflective of my target
audience. This helps build a sense of
association therefore making the artist
seem both relatable and aspirational.
By using the unconventional and
slightly controversial grab quote, I
am attracting a certain sense of
humour which can be found in my
target audience.
Also, the language used in the main
article is reflective of my audience.
This includes informal language
through use of elision as well as taboo
language.
