Libyan Government Case
My team and I are defending the Libyan Government in regards to the acts that happened from the
early 1970's to early 90's.
The Gulf of Sidra is 95 nautical miles in length and 237 nautical miles in width. Each side of the
gulf belongs to Libya. The capital of Libya is Tripoli and it is located right along the northwest coast
of Libya. On October 10th, 1973, Our leader Muammar Gaddafi, established the "Line of Death".
The Line of Death stretches from the west end to the east end of the gulf. What this case's main
controversy is, is whether Libya has the right to claim this area and was the United States justified in
their actions.
First of all, I'd like to state the basics of an Economic Exclusive Zone. The United States believes

The United States said they were flying Combat Air Patrol, but US Navy Commander Thompson S.
Sanders confirmed that they were purposefully provoking the Libyans, flying a racetrack orbit
within their area. The United States was fully aware of what the consequences their actions might
lead to. Just as you can assume, another American plane warned the Tomcats of Libyan Fitters
taking off from a Libyan Air base. The United States was ordered to intercept those Fitters. When
the Jets approached each other within Libya's territory, the Libyans fired a missile at the United
States in order to protect themselves from the incoming US Tomcats. The Libyan missile missed the
Tomcat and the Libyan jets turned around to go back to their base. The US Tomcats decided they
were still in danger, so they shot both of the Libyan jets down. The United States reported after the
mission that both Libyans pilots ejected safely and their parachutes came up, but in the official
Audio Recording of the US, one of the pilot's states that one of the Libyan pilot's parachutes did not
go up, contradicting their

Personal Narrative: My Job
I sit in the small, confined DJ booth of a hole–the–wall bar. Mike, better known as Cowboy, the ten–
gallon hat wearing owner of Afterburners, invites me to come resume my DJ duties since I am on a
two–week layoff from my factory job and larger crowds have once again began filing into the bar. I
used to DJ on weekends for Cowboy before school and my full–time job became too much and his
business began to slow down. I have to admit it feels good to be back in my old element.
Afterburners is small and could use some tender loving care, but it really is a nice place. Patrons
vary from military personal who are out on Grissom Air Force Base for orders, to police and
security forces who are staying and receiving training at the Vohn Liche facilities, ... Show more

As soon as I play it, as soon as I hear it, it awakens something in me. The base line makes me more
aware of my own heartbeat while the lyrics transport my mind outside of my own body. I truly feel
like I am transcended everything around me until Cowboys voice brings me back to, "Great job
tonight," he says, handing me crisp bills from the register as my payment, "Come on back anytime!"
It's now three–thirty, and the crowd has dispersed. I step out into the cold and head for my car,
parked conveniently in the parking lot of the abandoned hotel next door. I never park close because
you can never trust the assessment of others when they say, "I'm okay to drive, I haven't drank
THAT much." I really didn't drink much this night, but after making sure my car was undamaged
and locked up, I decide that aside from the cold it is a good night to walk the five blocks home.
Though our Writing the Body class advocates disconnected walking to get the full experience, I
respectfully disagree and insert my headphones, still riding my musical high. With my Outkast
playlist as the soundtrack, I walk across the empty parking lot, thinking about how not long ago the
hotel was still open and usually pretty full. Now it has the appearance of something from a horror
movie, or perhaps American Horror Story. Windows are broken and grass is growing wild in the
front, seemingly twisting and crawling up the walls and into the cracks of the windows to fill the

Nonverbal Communication Involves The Processes Of Encoding...
Nonverbal communication involves the processes of encoding and decoding. Encoding is the act of
generating the information such as facial expressions, gestures, and postures. Decoding is the
interpretation of information from received sensations from previous experiences. Nonverbal
communication between people is communication through sending and receiving wordless cues.
It includes the use of visual cues such as body language, distance and physical
environments/appearance and of touch. It can also include chronemics and oculesics. Even eye
contact and the actions of looking while talking and listening, frequency of glances, patterns of
fixation, pupil dilation, and of course blink rate.
Just as speech contains nonverbal elements known as paralanguage, including voice quality, rate,
pitch, volume, and speaking style, as well as prosodic features such as rhythm, intonation, and
stress, so written texts have nonverbal elements such as handwriting style, spatial arrangement of
words, or the physical layout of a page. However, much of the study of nonverbal communication
has focused on interaction between individuals, where it can be classified into three principal areas:
environmental conditions where communication takes place, physical characteristics of the
communicators, and behaviors of communicators during interaction. Only a small percentage of the
brain processes verbal communication. As infants, nonverbal communication is learned from social–
emotional communication,

What Makes Ronald Reagan A Good President
After our country had won the America Revolution in 1783, we had elected many different
presidents to govern our country. The most notable leader that had ever come to power was
president Ronald Reagan. Governing from 1981 to 1989, Reagan served his country with attentive
ears for the public, a firm fist for the foreign, and an understanding for the needs of America.
Reagan became president when our country was at an unhealthy state. Although, he had still
managed to listen and speak for the public. He inherited a misery index (the sum of the inflation and
unemployment rates) of 19.99%. Under Reaganomics, sixteen million new jobs were created, and
helped fuel an economic boom that lasted two decades. At the same time, not only did he cut tax
rates, but the Tax Reform Act of 1986 simplified the income–tax code by eliminating many tax
shelters, reducing the number of deductions and tax brackets. After years of drowning in
unemployment, high taxes, and a slow economy, America was finally looking up. Ultimately, one of
the reasons Reagan was the best president was because of his attentive ears for the public. ... Show

explosion in a Berlin discotheque that resulted in American casualties. After the world saw this bold
move, no one was anxious to test America's strength. In fact, by using Reagan's "Peace through
strength" philosophy, he had increased defense spending by more than forty percent. This increased
troop levels and even got much–needed space parts into the pipeline. These efforts to strengthen the
American military were sure to make it a major military power. Overall, with Ronald Reagan as
President, our country had increased its strength in military and achieved respect from other

The Tragic Truth Of 1986 Research Paper
The Tragic Truth of 1986
In 1986 there were many tragic events that impacted the world, such as the Chernobyl accident and
the Olof Palme murder, the influence of which is still felt today.
On February 28, 1986, Olof Palme was murdered in Stockholm. While he was walking home with
his wife from an evening at the movies "someone fired two shots at Palme from behind"("Palme,
Olof" 269). After which he was brought to a hospital (Sabbatsberg Hospital), but shortly after
midnight he was declared dead. The investigators at the crime scene did a poor job; the only
evidence that was found were two bullets which were "actually found by passersby"("Palme, Olof"
269). One man was arrested: "A 43–year–old alcoholic named Christer Pettersson"("Palme, Olof" ...

The accident happened when "the operators were conducting a test simulating loss of power at the
plant"(Klevans 347). Meanwhile when this test was happening most of the safety systems were shut
down. A test of this type would never be sanctioned "in the United States, Western Europe, or Asia"
(Klevans 347). As a result a colossal amount of radioactivity was released into Western Europe
which had a stupendous impact on the health of many people. Through 1990 to 1998 about 1800
children were repulsed to the radioactivity and had thyroid cancer. These children lived "in the
contaminated areas of Belarus, Russia, and Ukraine"(Klevans 350). After the accident the "engineers
from the former Soviet Union have made changes to all RBMK reactors to eliminate the possibility
of repeating this type of accident"(Klevans 350). As a result the radioactivity that was released is
now ingrained in Pripyat and in the periphery of some

Loud Music from Night Clubs and Hearing Damage Essay
Amplified music from night clubs can lead to hearing damage
Shifts in hearing thresholds can result in excessive exposure to any kind of sound. It not matters
whether the sound is pleasant or not nor the music genre, the degree of noise induced hearing loss
(NIHL) depends on the intensity and frequency characteristics of the noise, along with its duration
and the intermittency of the exposure. Individual genetic and environmental factors also play
important part(Bovo, Ciorba, & Martini, 2007).
Hetu and Fortin (1995) studied the characteristics of highly amplified music in discotheques from
psychoacoustic and phenomenological points of view. They found that the amplified music is
characterized by strong pulsations (≈ 2 Hz), a narrow dynamic ... Show more content on

"Recreational" noise exposure (nightclubs and music players) is unlikely to cause the above direct
damage. Rather than direct mechanical injury, the process is a combination of metabolic and
mechanical changes. The music is more damaging when it is impulsive (energy is highly
concentrated in the time domain) and contains spectral energy peaks (over–stimulation of local
specific frequency region of the cochlea), the stereocilla of the hair cells are the most vulnerable
organ(Dobrucki et al., 2013).
Several mechanisms have been proposed for TTS. This includes increased shearing force of the hair
cells, synaptic fatigue, metabolic exhaustion of the outer hair cells (OHCs) and inner hair cells
(IHCs) due to overload, and changes in blood supply to the cochlea(Yamasoba, Pourbakht,
Sakamoto, & Suzuki, 2005). The internal amplification system of the cochlea is thus impaired as
shown in LePage and Murray (1997)'s research by studying otoacoustic emissions. Yamasoba et al.
(2005) suggested that constant overstimulation of the metabolic process could result in production
of by–products like reactive oxygen species and free–oxygen radicals, which triggers cell necrosis
or apoptosis. They also found pathological changes of the hair cells along with TTS, such as hair
cells disorganisation and fusion, floppy stereocilia, collapsing of the pillar bodies and swelling of
the afferent nerve endings. For IHCs, in addition to

Essay On 1970s Music
1970s Music Did you know that the inspiration behind Led Zeppelin's name came from something
their drummer had always said "going down like a lead zeppelin" and of course they changed the
spelling of lead to led so Americans wouldn't pronounce it "leed" (Stewart 82). There are many
things known about the seventies from Nixon's presidency, the Watergate scandal to all the popular
music genres and fashion choices and how they all had some effect on the average life of the
common people. The Watergate scandal definitely brought around a change, the change in the view
of morality among the American people, but the music brought an even larger change among
everyone. Because, it's a well known events about the 70s most people bring up the Watergate
scandal. On June 17, 1972 the Watergate scandal begins when four men are caught breaking into the
DNC headquarters in the Watergate office building (America's Best History). As of January 30, 1973
five of the people connected in the Watergate scandal had pleaded guilty ... Show more content on

Some of the many influences on the younger generation included changes in traditional markers of
adulthood, such as family and career (Kutulas). The most change came to the "norms" the norms
collided most with sexual and romantic options, because of this sex within the confines of marriage
had lost its cultural weight and moral authority (Kutulas). Music showed the new generation that
there was more than just what was traditionally expected from them, that they were their own person
and could define the norms for themselves and not depend on what other people say or think about
them. Middle class boomers were both the instigators and the victims of unprecedented sexual
change; they were the members of the class that traditionally defined standards but were
simultaneously most restricted by them

Essay about Rock Music in the GDR and the Eastern Bloc
The well–known riff of Deep Purple's "Smoke on the Water" opens Andreas Dresen's movie
Changing Skins (Raus aus der Haut, 1997). The film opens in a crowded music club where young
people are dancing ecstatically, turned on by pulsing rock and roll. This could be a trite depiction of
youth culture if it were not located in a country that suppressed this kind of music: the German
Democratic Republic (GDR). It is therefore worth reflecting on the social and political controversy
in the former East Germany that, finally in the 1970s, permitted the performance of rock music and
even imports from the capitalist part of the world. By the late 1970s, different kinds of rock music
were not only an integral part of Western youth culture but also ... Show more content on

Beat and rock music spread all over the GDR and imported records circulated on the black market.
The government finally had to accept the fact that rock and roll had become an integral part of youth
culture even in the socialist bloc.
At the Eighth SED Congress in 1971, Honecker announced an about–face. The needs of young
people – as they were an important part of socialist society – should no longer be ignored.
Therefore, music from the West was allowed to be broadcast on radio stations (most popular was the
youth station "DT64"), special editions of famous musicians like Jimi Hendrix, the Beatles, the
Rolling Stones, and so on were released, and local bands were allowed again to perform in newly
founded music clubs and discotheques.
In 1973, with the establishment of the Committee for Entertainment Music as part of the Culture
Ministry and the arrangement of the International Youth Festival in East Berlin, beat music was
officially rehabilitated. Basically since around 1970, "popular culture in fact was the core of a
common culture" (Maase 15). As a matter of fact, with the accommodation of rock and roll to
official culture the government now was better able to control songwriters and musicians. With the
groups dependent on the benefits of the Ministry, which

Comparing The Silicon Valley And Berlin Startup Scene
A Comparison of the Silicon Valley and Berlin Startup Scene It's 12 a.m. in Berlin and the historic
cobblestone boulevards seem swathed in a vibrant atmosphere of drug–fuelled restlessness and
drunken euphoria. The thick aroma of cigarette smoke and sweat lingers in the balmy summer air as
dazed Berliners saunter side by side, their raucous voices drowned out by the steady bass beat of
nearby discotheques. For more than a decade Berlin has been synonymous with the idea of a city
that never sleeps with its concrete corridors ever shifting to the beat of its own drum. However in
the recent years, Berlin's cultural scene has begun to branch off from this history of debauchery as
inhabitants of the city have begun to innovate and modernize in ways radically different from its
conventional past. Originally Germany was a nation founded in the economic viability of perfecting
and improving the technology and services of their predecessors. For much of their economic
history, this policy has proved to be extremely cost effective, as Germany has quickly risen to the
top of the European Union with a steady and contained growth rate. However with the mounting rise
of globalization, Germany has begun to find itself at an economic crossroads of sorts, as their
methods of layered improvement on existing technologies can longer compete with the long–term
effectiveness of pure technical innovation abroad. As a result, this has led to birth of a nascent
startup culture within the heart

Grassroots Organizations In The 1960s
At the end of the 50s, so called grassroots organizations1 were founded by proponents of the cultural
movements expressed by rock bands and musical genres, such as jazz, beat, skiffle. These
organizations existed already for many years, but they were emerging enormously during the 60s
and 70s. For instance a very fertile ground for grassroots organizations ("Bürgerinitiative") offered
West Germany, where surveys concluded that they had more members than political parties.
Because music was the form of protest, which was the most dependent on production and
distribution of the cultural industry's infrastructure, politically orientated sector of music (for

Normally, when most people think about the 1970s (Avoid broad statements like this...), one of the
first things that comes to mind is music. So much music came out in that decade, and the majority of
it was influential on the time period (What do you mean by this statement? How was it influential?
Again, avoid big, broad statements like this). One of these styles of music, disco is one of the most
well known and thought–of during the time. Because so many people loved disco, there was no
particular demographic and everyone could enjoy the time at the newly popular discotheques. It was
described by Steve D'Aquisto as "like a cross between outer space and a big playhouse."In addition

Because of the mainstream shift, thanks to Saturday Night Fever. music was revolutionized forever.
Artists such as the Bee Gees, Donna Summer, Michael Jackson and the Village People were all
successful disco musicians that changed music for the better. Each one of those artists, and many
more had their albums played in clubs on the weekend, and everyone would dance to them. A lot of
people did not like this music however. Specifically, there was two groups that opposed disco music
after Saturday Night Fever. One of these groups were the original members of the underground
disco scene. A quote from a review of Saturday Night Fever by disco historian Dennis Brumm states
"That movie was about a group of straight, homophobic, racist, Italian–American twentysomethings
in New York who went dancing wearing odd–looking clothes and probably too much aftershave
lotion. They looked nothing much like the people I saw or knew in gay discos." In addition to this,
not did disco become a mainstream success due to this movie, but its soundtrack was also a raging
success. The Bee Gees Saturday Night Fever quickly became the best–selling movie soundtrack of
all time, as well as the highest selling pop album, until eclipsed in 1982 by Michael Jackson's
Thriller. After these two things, disco was everywhere in the late 70s. Everything was disco
(Everything?); Disco remixes, disco integration into other genres, and even more movies. There was
another group of people that despised this. These people hated disco and all it stood for. Many
protests to stop disco were held in major cities around the country, to try and get disco out of the
American culture. "The Day the Disco Died" occurred on July 12, 1979. This was a campaign held
by the Chicago White Sox, and would be a disco demolition night; everything from records to
anything else disco would be destroyed. This was organised by Steve Dahl, a former DJ at a radio
station which became

How Does Music Intensify Ecstasy?
For this discussion I chose an article from the Correlation and Causation website titled "Music
intensifies ecstasy effects". In this article, the author highlights that music intensifies the effects of
the drug Ecstasy. For his argument he uses a research conducted by Iannone and colleagues made
with rats. He emphasizes that the study showed that even rats that received a higher dose of ecstasy
could return to a normal state after one day of its administration. Additionally, he indicated that even
rats receiving low doses of ecstasy did not showed brain activity modification when no music was
played. Conversely, he adds that total electrical brain activity on rats was significantly decreased in
the presence of loud music, similar to what is heard in discotheques, (Barnes, 2006). In this article,
Barnes subjectively misrepresented Iannone study results. Moreover, Barnes established causation
on his article; this is inappropriate because correlation does not imply absolute cause, (Rosnow &
Rosenthal, 2013). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Researchers found that low doses of Ecstasy (3mg/Kg) were not able to modify electric parameters
in the brain. However, they found that brain activity was altered when using a higher dose of the
drug (6 mg/Kg). Now, it is worth noting that these alterations were visible in both, the 6 mg/Kg
non–noise group, as the group that received 6 mg/Kg of Ecstasy in the acoustic noise group. It is
also important to notice that the noise used on the research was not music per se, but an acoustic
noise that resembles the intensity of music in clubs. The findings of the researchers suggest that the
effects of this drug could be driven by relatively common environmental factors, and its harmful
effects on humans are due to its

The Southerners are considered by the Northerners to be "lazy, and the cause for the depressed

in a different way. For example the people living in Milan (Northern Italy) work long, hard hours
each day with little to no breaks. This is completely different in Southern cities, such as Naples,
where the Southerners work from sunrise till 1:30 p.m. They then take a break starting from 1:30 all
the way till 4:30 p.m. This break is known as a siesta, and is the only time they get a break from
their frantic lives. Another major difference between how the two regions work is in the South
almost all adults work as some sort of farmer. These farms may be grapes, corn, or even olives. On
the contrary, in the North's populated cities, such as Milan or Florence, many people work in the
fashion business. The reasoning behind this is that Northern Italy is considered the fashion capital of

initiate the development of a massive tourism project. Certainly, it plays an important role on

problems to the people of Yap because of the massiveness of the extent of the tourism. According to

form of music which hadn't been named. Four years and many songs later on the 13th of September

name "DISCO". This soulful music is based on a number of instruments blended together to get
what is known as the disco sound. The vocals are played on a steady four on the floor beat or what is

The clothes too are tight fitting to show off your more of the body. Shirts with slightly long and

Discos brought in many other cultures too. One of the main addictions that disco brought in was
drugs. Cocaine and Quaalude became the main drugs for all disco lovers. While cocaine gave them a
high spirit, it helped many to enjoy the loud music better. Quaalude made them feel light like jelly
and helped them to move to the groove. The dance lovers enjoyed the discotheques, as there was
music, dance, alcohol and fun. Discos became very popular and some of them became as popular as
tourist sites too. Manhattans Studio 54 is one such place. You couldn't miss this hangout, as you
would see many celebrities and people who are both rich and famous there. In the 1970s and 80s
disco and dance came together and were the craze of the time. Groups like The Jackson Five, ABBA
and The BEE GEES are still bands which are famous for their great disco music. Disco, which was
performed only by a few bands in the beginning spread like a forest fire. Soon disco became
mainstream and all kinds of bands were performing disco numbers. Disco was the in thing and a lot
of movies were made on the disco theme too. Saturday night fever starring John Travolta and Thank
God It's Friday were two big hits with disco as its mainstream idea. ABBA was a group, which took

The story of Tony Manero Essay
The term disco often brings to mind, images of polyester suits, coordinated choreography and flashy
disco balls. John Badham's 1977 cinematic classic Saturday Night Fever capitalized on those images
to help mainstream society relate to this growing subculture. John Travolta's portrayal of Tony
Manero, a down on his luck heterosexual male, who uses disco as a means of escape from his
everyday life, helps to demonstrate Hollywood's encroachment on this growing cultural
phenomenon. What Badham's film fails to explore is the history of disco; the influence that it had on
underground society in the United States. The story of Tony Manero lacks the colourful history of
this musical tradition. For example, the film does not explore the ... Show more content on

After the Stonewall Riots in 1969, gay Americans began to develop a new collective persona and
disco offered them a foundation on which they could build that identity upon. This collective
identity was most commonly shared in the discothèques themselves. The gay community quickly
realized the importance of establishments that serviced gay cliental and while organizations like the
Gay Activist Alliance existed to fight for gay equality on a political level, discothèques helped them
fight for cultural equality. As the decade progressed, the sophistication of the gay club scene grew
tremendously. Disco soon became "the most effective tool in the struggle for gay liberation". Soon,
the gay community began to move away from brothel style clubs and started to develop a
discothèque culture. With this shift, came a change in the way the gay community approached disco
music and its lifestyle. By shifting the focus of clubs away from sex to music and dancing, the gay
community began to develop a more diverse form of culture. These new clubs that focused on music
helped to foster a greater sense of legitimacy which could be seen in the collective resistance of
disco music at the time. Artists like Carl Bean, whose cover of Charles Harris's song "I Was Born
this Way" which was one of the first songs to explore gay sexuality in such open terms, helped to
unify homosexual men.

Sociologist Samuel A. Stouffer (1900–1960) is credited with developing relative deprivation theory
after World War II. Stouffer first wrote of relative deprivation theory in his study entitled The
American Soldier (1949). Relative deprivation theory belongs to the larger body of interdisciplinary
work called social movement theory. Social movement theory, which began in the late nineteenth
century, refers to the study of social mobilization including its social, cultural, and political
manifestations and consequences. Relative Deprivation occurs where individuals or groups
subjectively perceive themselves as unfairly disadvantaged over others perceived as having similar
attributes and deserving similar rewards (their reference groups). This

The History of Disk Jockey's
In 1935, American commentator Walter Winchell coined the term "disc jockey" (the combination of
"disc", referring to the disc records, and "jockey", which is an operator of a machine) as a
description of radio announcer Martin Block, the first announcer to become a star. While his
audience was awaiting developments in the Lindbergh kidnapping, Block played records and created
the illusion that he was broadcasting from a ballroom, with the nation's top dance bands performing
live. The show, which he called Make Believe Ballroom, was an instant hit. The term "disc jockey"
appeared in print in Variety in 1941.[5]

Turntablism, the art of using turntables not only to play music, but to manipulate sound and create
original music, began to develop.
In 1974, Technics released the first SL–1200 turntable, which evolved into the SL–1200 MK2 in
1979, which as of the mid–2000s remains the industry standard for deejaying. In 1974, German
electronic music band Kraftwerk released the 22–minute song "Autobahn", which takes up the entire
first side of that LP. Years later, Kraftwerk would become a significant influence on hip hop artists
such as Afrika Bambaataa and house music pioneer Frankie Knuckles. During the mid 1970s, Hip
hop music and culture began to emerge, originating among urban African Americans and Latinos in
New York City. The four main elements of hip hop culture were MCing (rapping), DJing, graffiti,
and breakdancing.
In the mid–1970s, the soul–funk blend of dance pop known as Disco took off in the mainstream pop
charts in the United States and Europe, causing discotheques to experience a rebirth. Unlike many
late 1960s, clubs, which featured live bands, discotheques used the DJs selection and mixing of
records as the entertainment. In 1975, Record pools began, enabling disc jockeys access to newer
music from the industry in an efficient method.
In 1976, American DJ, editor, and producer Walter Gibbons remixed "Ten Percent" by Double

I found this book to be very interesting. I have never really known much history of the Soviet
Union; I have only had a brief understanding that is. I also found the passion for rock and roll in the
youth of the Soviet Union to be very interesting as well. I believe this book develops a better
understanding of the Soviet Union and the destruction of it by studying the relationships between
young people of the Soviet Union, rock and roll music and other western pop–culture, and the
government of Dnepropetrovsk. I believe Dr. Zhuk's thesis is to be that Rock music did not
necessarily destroy Socialism but it definitely had a large impact in the destruction.
Zhuk, who grew up and was educated in the Soviet Union, discusses the effect of Western pop

Zhuk's interpretation of the 1960s to be interesting as well. He refers tto this time period as the
"beating" 1960s. In this time period the government of the Soviet Union conveyed a lot of concern
of young people of the Soviet Union participating in the listening of rock and roll and watching
western films. In his book he states that the first users of the Beatles' music in 1964 and 1965 were
children from the wealthy families of the city and that the first known location of this
"Beatlesmania" was at a "special–language" school for children of wealthy families, where they
were taught English. On some occasions their parents would bring Beatles albums back after
traveling for their high ranked jobs. Now it isn't blandly stated that the reason for the fall of the
USSR was because youths wanted to listen and watch these western pop–cultures but it clearly had a
toll on it. The limitations of western culture in this region caused many black markets to come
about. Young Soviets would create clubs to show off their black market clothes and listen to their

Gender Exploitation, Trafficking, And Mobility Of Women...
On the 5th of March, 2001, Oxana Rantseva, a 21–year–old Russian national, arrived in Cyprus and
was granted a work permit as an artiste until June of that year. This type of work permit was
discussed in a report on "artistes" in Cyprus by the Cypriot Ombudsman in 2003 (as well as multiple
other subsequent reports on human trafficking), clarifying that the word "artiste" had become
synonymous with prostitute. It was also noted that beginning in the 1990's the majority of the
women serving in Cyprus's prostitution market were coming from former states of the Soviet Union.
During this time Cyprus was implementing stricture regulations to limit the number of women
immigration to work as artistes. Unfortunately, the report found that despite this "there was not
improvement regarding sexual exploitation, trafficking and mobility of women under a regime of
modern slavery" (paragraph 84). This situation in Cyprus was documented and known of by the
government.

ceilings surrounding the stage. By this time, the nightclub 's fire alarm had been activated, and
although there were four possible exits, most people headed for the front door through which they
had entered. The rapidly moving fire with intense black smoke engulfed the club in less than 6
minutes. Video footage of the fire shows its ignition, rapid growth, the heavy smoke quickly made
escape impossible, and the exit blockage that further hindered evacuation. The ensuing stampede led
to a crush in the narrow hallway leading to that exit, quickly blocking the exit completely and
resulting in numerous deaths and injuries among the patrons and staff. The toxic smoke, heat and the
stampede of people toward the exits killed 100; 230 were injured and another 132 escaped
uninjured. A total of 462 people were in the club, even though the club 's official licensed capacity

In spite of the fact that the level of taxation on the beer retail price in China was one of the lowest in
the world at 19% (as compared with South Korea at 53.5%, Australia at 52.8% or the UK at 44.6%,

* Most of the beer sold through retail (''take–home'' or ''off–premise'') outlets is standard beer.
People bring reusable glass bottles and fill them up. Most of the international brands are only
available through ''on–premise'' channels like hotels, restaurants, bars, and karaoke bars. On–
premise prices are considerably higher than off–premise retail, and indeed considerably higher than
many Chinese consumers can afford. Among status–conscious buyers purchasing beer in hotels,
bars, discotheques, and restaurants, however, demand is relatively price inelastic. Some customers
are prepared to pay very high prices even by Western standards for the right brand, as a sign of
status.
Most foreign brewers had imported their brands to China before producing them domestically.
Multinational brewers had spent large sums on advertising, especially in the bigger hotels and
restaurants where prices were already high. In order to secure access to higher–paying customers
who were frequenting these restaurants and hotels, larger beer companies paid an extra concession
fee to sell on these premises, thus furthering raising the final price of the beer. As a result, many
local Chinese beers were being pushed out with foreign beers often sold at twice the price of local
ones. Overseas brewers then began to import brands rather than products by finding cooperative
partners in China: the world's top 10 brewers had all entered the market in this way.

The Hippie era has come to end and the days of self awareness have arrived. Instead of focusing on
love to all, many Americans were indulging in their self pleasure. According to Alfred Kinsey's

(Glbt.com/shsh/sexrevo cites correctly). Wilhelm Reich added to Kinsey's research with a remark
that he believed sexual repression overwhelmingly distorted psychological development

The Seventies: Attitude, Disco Clubs, Or Disco Dance Craze?
The seventies was a time for attitude, disco clubs, and disco music that originated in the african

The Importance Of Dance In My Life
Dance In My Life Dance, along with music, has always been a part of my life. As a child, my sister
and I would 'choreograph' our own dance routines pretending to be with the USO. We wanted to be
like The Supremes or Martha and the Vandellas, or even the Bee Gees or Osmonds. Together, we
would make up 'song and dance' routines then perform them for our family. Really, we were just
trying to please our daddy whom we adored. Regrettably, I was never able to participate in formal
dance training. Most other kids joined the dance classes at Tony Deel's Studio but I was unable to do
so for financial reasons. Alternatively, I became a cheerleader and that same year I was allowed to
also join drill team and pom squad. Initially, I was a lanky, awkward teen with little coordination,
but in time I gained skills and dance moves that put me at the front of the squad. Surprisingly, I
became so adept at the moves in the routines I was able to also choreograph many of our
performances. Dance became my 'happy place'. There, in front of all the crowds of people at the
football or basketball games, I was no longer the shy little girl who was embarrassed to speak for
fear of being made fun of. My self–image of being a scrawny, crooked toothed, flat–chested little
curly mop–head didn't matter when I was performing. I was so good at it, that I was able to show off
those skills with confidence. This form of dance saved me from a life of cowering in the corner or in
the shadows of my peers.

The hippie's represented the complete opposite of 1950's American values. Many conservative and
religious people considered Hair to be offensive and obscene, especially regarding desecration of the
American flag, and a scene at the end of Act I in which the cast strips naked on stage. The show was
met with protests around the United States, as well as in other countries. The management of the
show went to court after threats to arrest cast members. In defense of artistic expression, the federal
government deemed the show acceptable, although performing license was denied to Hair in
Chattanooga several times. Despite its deterrents, Hair continued to play in theaters around the

Libyan Government Case

  • 1. Libyan Government Case My team and I are defending the Libyan Government in regards to the acts that happened from the early 1970's to early 90's. The Gulf of Sidra is 95 nautical miles in length and 237 nautical miles in width. Each side of the gulf belongs to Libya. The capital of Libya is Tripoli and it is located right along the northwest coast of Libya. On October 10th, 1973, Our leader Muammar Gaddafi, established the "Line of Death". The Line of Death stretches from the west end to the east end of the gulf. What this case's main controversy is, is whether Libya has the right to claim this area and was the United States justified in their actions. First of all, I'd like to state the basics of an Economic Exclusive Zone. The United States believes we don't ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The United States said they were flying Combat Air Patrol, but US Navy Commander Thompson S. Sanders confirmed that they were purposefully provoking the Libyans, flying a racetrack orbit within their area. The United States was fully aware of what the consequences their actions might lead to. Just as you can assume, another American plane warned the Tomcats of Libyan Fitters taking off from a Libyan Air base. The United States was ordered to intercept those Fitters. When the Jets approached each other within Libya's territory, the Libyans fired a missile at the United States in order to protect themselves from the incoming US Tomcats. The Libyan missile missed the Tomcat and the Libyan jets turned around to go back to their base. The US Tomcats decided they were still in danger, so they shot both of the Libyan jets down. The United States reported after the mission that both Libyans pilots ejected safely and their parachutes came up, but in the official Audio Recording of the US, one of the pilot's states that one of the Libyan pilot's parachutes did not go up, contradicting their ... • 4. Personal Narrative: My Job I sit in the small, confined DJ booth of a hole–the–wall bar. Mike, better known as Cowboy, the ten– gallon hat wearing owner of Afterburners, invites me to come resume my DJ duties since I am on a two–week layoff from my factory job and larger crowds have once again began filing into the bar. I used to DJ on weekends for Cowboy before school and my full–time job became too much and his business began to slow down. I have to admit it feels good to be back in my old element. Afterburners is small and could use some tender loving care, but it really is a nice place. The base line makes me more aware of my own heartbeat while the lyrics transport my mind outside of my own body. I truly feel like I am transcended everything around me until Cowboys voice brings me back to, "Great job tonight," he says, handing me crisp bills from the register as my payment, "Come on back anytime!" It's now three–thirty, and the crowd has dispersed. I step out into the cold and head for my car, parked conveniently in the parking lot of the abandoned hotel next door. I never park close because you can never trust the assessment of others when they say, "I'm okay to drive, I haven't drank THAT much." I really didn't drink much this night, but after making sure my car was undamaged and locked up, I decide that aside from the cold it is a good night to walk the five blocks home. Though our Writing the Body class advocates disconnected walking to get the full experience, I respectfully disagree and insert my headphones, still riding my musical high. With my Outkast playlist as the soundtrack, I walk across the empty parking lot, thinking about how not long ago the hotel was still open and usually pretty full. Now it has the appearance of something from a horror movie, or perhaps American Horror Story. Windows are broken and grass is growing wild in the front, seemingly twisting and crawling up the walls and into the cracks of the windows to fill the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Nonverbal Communication Involves The Processes Of Encoding... Nonverbal communication involves the processes of encoding and decoding. Encoding is the act of generating the information such as facial expressions, gestures, and postures. Decoding is the interpretation of information from received sensations from previous experiences. Nonverbal communication between people is communication through sending and receiving wordless cues. It includes the use of visual cues such as body language, distance and physical environments/appearance and of touch. It can also include chronemics and oculesics. Even eye contact and the actions of looking while talking and listening, frequency of glances, patterns of fixation, pupil dilation, and of course blink rate. Just as speech contains nonverbal elements known as paralanguage, including voice quality, rate, pitch, volume, and speaking style, as well as prosodic features such as rhythm, intonation, and stress, so written texts have nonverbal elements such as handwriting style, spatial arrangement of words, or the physical layout of a page. However, much of the study of nonverbal communication has focused on interaction between individuals, where it can be classified into three principal areas: environmental conditions where communication takes place, physical characteristics of the communicators, and behaviors of communicators during interaction. Only a small percentage of the brain processes verbal communication. As infants, nonverbal communication is learned from social– emotional communication, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. What Makes Ronald Reagan A Good President After our country had won the America Revolution in 1783, we had elected many different presidents to govern our country. The most notable leader that had ever come to power was president Ronald Reagan. Governing from 1981 to 1989, Reagan served his country with attentive ears for the public, a firm fist for the foreign, and an understanding for the needs of America. Reagan became president when our country was at an unhealthy state. Although, he had still managed to listen and speak for the public. He inherited a misery index (the sum of the inflation and unemployment rates) of 19.99%. Under Reaganomics, sixteen million new jobs were created, and helped fuel an economic boom that lasted two decades. At the same time, not only did he cut tax rates, but the Tax Reform Act of 1986 simplified the income–tax code by eliminating many tax shelters, reducing the number of deductions and tax brackets. After years of drowning in unemployment, high taxes, and a slow economy, America was finally looking up. Ultimately, one of the reasons Reagan was the best president was because of his attentive ears for the public. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 7. The Tragic Truth Of 1986 Research Paper The Tragic Truth of 1986 In 1986 there were many tragic events that impacted the world, such as the Chernobyl accident and the Olof Palme murder, the influence of which is still felt today. On February 28, 1986, Olof Palme was murdered in Stockholm. While he was walking home with his wife from an evening at the movies "someone fired two shots at Palme from behind"("Palme, Olof" 269). After which he was brought to a hospital (Sabbatsberg Hospital), but shortly after midnight he was declared dead. The investigators at the crime scene did a poor job; the only evidence that was found were two bullets which were "actually found by passersby"("Palme, Olof" 269). One man was arrested: "A 43–year–old alcoholic named Christer Pettersson"("Palme, Olof" ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The accident happened when "the operators were conducting a test simulating loss of power at the plant"(Klevans 347). Meanwhile when this test was happening most of the safety systems were shut down. A test of this type would never be sanctioned "in the United States, Western Europe, or Asia" (Klevans 347). As a result a colossal amount of radioactivity was released into Western Europe which had a stupendous impact on the health of many people. Through 1990 to 1998 about 1800 children were repulsed to the radioactivity and had thyroid cancer. These children lived "in the contaminated areas of Belarus, Russia, and Ukraine"(Klevans 350). After the accident the "engineers from the former Soviet Union have made changes to all RBMK reactors to eliminate the possibility of repeating this type of accident"(Klevans 350). • 8. Loud Music from Night Clubs and Hearing Damage Essay Amplified music from night clubs can lead to hearing damage Shifts in hearing thresholds can result in excessive exposure to any kind of sound. It not matters whether the sound is pleasant or not nor the music genre, the degree of noise induced hearing loss (NIHL) depends on the intensity and frequency characteristics of the noise, along with its duration and the intermittency of the exposure. Individual genetic and environmental factors also play important part(Bovo, Ciorba, & Martini, 2007). Hetu and Fortin (1995) studied the characteristics of highly amplified music in discotheques from psychoacoustic and phenomenological points of view. They found that the amplified music is characterized by strong pulsations (≈ 2 Hz), a narrow dynamic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "Recreational" noise exposure (nightclubs and music players) is unlikely to cause the above direct damage. Rather than direct mechanical injury, the process is a combination of metabolic and mechanical changes. The music is more damaging when it is impulsive (energy is highly concentrated in the time domain) and contains spectral energy peaks (over–stimulation of local specific frequency region of the cochlea), the stereocilla of the hair cells are the most vulnerable organ(Dobrucki et al., 2013). Several mechanisms have been proposed for TTS. This includes increased shearing force of the hair cells, synaptic fatigue, metabolic exhaustion of the outer hair cells (OHCs) and inner hair cells (IHCs) due to overload, and changes in blood supply to the cochlea(Yamasoba, Pourbakht, Sakamoto, & Suzuki, 2005). The internal amplification system of the cochlea is thus impaired as shown in LePage and Murray (1997)'s research by studying otoacoustic emissions. Yamasoba et al. (2005) suggested that constant overstimulation of the metabolic process could result in production of by–products like reactive oxygen species and free–oxygen radicals, which triggers cell necrosis or apoptosis. They also found pathological changes of the hair cells along with TTS, such as hair cells disorganisation and fusion, floppy stereocilia, collapsing of the pillar bodies and swelling of the afferent nerve endings. For IHCs, in addition to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Essay On 1970s Music 1970s Music Did you know that the inspiration behind Led Zeppelin's name came from something their drummer had always said "going down like a lead zeppelin" and of course they changed the spelling of lead to led so Americans wouldn't pronounce it "leed" (Stewart 82). There are many things known about the seventies from Nixon's presidency, the Watergate scandal to all the popular music genres and fashion choices and how they all had some effect on the average life of the common people. The Watergate scandal definitely brought around a change, the change in the view of morality among the American people, but the music brought an even larger change among everyone. Because, it's a well known events about the 70s most people bring up the Watergate scandal. On June 17, 1972 the Watergate scandal begins when four men are caught breaking into the DNC headquarters in the Watergate office building (America's Best History). The most change came to the "norms" the norms collided most with sexual and romantic options, because of this sex within the confines of marriage had lost its cultural weight and moral authority (Kutulas). Music showed the new generation that there was more than just what was traditionally expected from them, that they were their own person and could define the norms for themselves and not depend on what other people say or think about them. • 10. Essay about Rock Music in the GDR and the Eastern Bloc The well–known riff of Deep Purple's "Smoke on the Water" opens Andreas Dresen's movie Changing Skins (Raus aus der Haut, 1997). The film opens in a crowded music club where young people are dancing ecstatically, turned on by pulsing rock and roll. This could be a trite depiction of youth culture if it were not located in a country that suppressed this kind of music: the German Democratic Republic (GDR). It is therefore worth reflecting on the social and political controversy in the former East Germany that, finally in the 1970s, permitted the performance of rock music and even imports from the capitalist part of the world. By the late 1970s, different kinds of rock music were not only an integral part of Western youth culture but also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Beat and rock music spread all over the GDR and imported records circulated on the black market. The government finally had to accept the fact that rock and roll had become an integral part of youth culture even in the socialist bloc. At the Eighth SED Congress in 1971, Honecker announced an about–face. The needs of young people – as they were an important part of socialist society – should no longer be ignored. Therefore, music from the West was allowed to be broadcast on radio stations (most popular was the youth station "DT64"), special editions of famous musicians like Jimi Hendrix, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, and so on were released, and local bands were allowed again to perform in newly founded music clubs and discotheques. In 1973, with the establishment of the Committee for Entertainment Music as part of the Culture Ministry and the arrangement of the International Youth Festival in East Berlin, beat music was officially rehabilitated. Basically since around 1970, "popular culture in fact was the core of a common culture" (Maase 15). As a matter of fact, with the accommodation of rock and roll to official culture the government now was better able to control songwriters and musicians. • 11. Comparing The Silicon Valley And Berlin Startup Scene A Comparison of the Silicon Valley and Berlin Startup Scene It's 12 a.m. in Berlin and the historic cobblestone boulevards seem swathed in a vibrant atmosphere of drug–fuelled restlessness and drunken euphoria. The thick aroma of cigarette smoke and sweat lingers in the balmy summer air as dazed Berliners saunter side by side, their raucous voices drowned out by the steady bass beat of nearby discotheques. For more than a decade Berlin has been synonymous with the idea of a city that never sleeps with its concrete corridors ever shifting to the beat of its own drum. However in the recent years, Berlin's cultural scene has begun to branch off from this history of debauchery as inhabitants of the city have begun to innovate and modernize in ways radically different from its conventional past. Originally Germany was a nation founded in the economic viability of perfecting and improving the technology and services of their predecessors. For much of their economic history, this policy has proved to be extremely cost effective, as Germany has quickly risen to the top of the European Union with a steady and contained growth rate. However with the mounting rise of globalization, Germany has begun to find itself at an economic crossroads of sorts, as their methods of layered improvement on existing technologies can longer compete with the long–term effectiveness of pure technical innovation abroad. As a result, this has led to birth of a nascent startup culture within the heart ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

So much music came out in that decade, and the majority of it was influential on the time period (What do you mean by this statement? How was it influential? Again, avoid big, broad statements like this). One of these styles of music, disco is one of the most well known and thought–of during the time. Because so many people loved disco, there was no particular demographic and everyone could enjoy the time at the newly popular discotheques. Artists such as the Bee Gees, Donna Summer, Michael Jackson and the Village People were all successful disco musicians that changed music for the better. Each one of those artists, and many more had their albums played in clubs on the weekend, and everyone would dance to them. A lot of people did not like this music however. Specifically, there was two groups that opposed disco music after Saturday Night Fever. One of these groups were the original members of the underground disco scene. A quote from a review of Saturday Night Fever by disco historian Dennis Brumm states "That movie was about a group of straight, homophobic, racist, Italian–American twentysomethings in New York who went dancing wearing odd–looking clothes and probably too much aftershave lotion. They looked nothing much like the people I saw or knew in gay discos." In addition to this, not did disco become a mainstream success due to this movie, but its soundtrack was also a raging success. The Bee Gees Saturday Night Fever quickly became the best–selling movie soundtrack of all time, as well as the highest selling pop album, until eclipsed in 1982 by Michael Jackson's Thriller. After these two things, disco was everywhere in the late 70s. Everything was disco (Everything?); Disco remixes, disco integration into other genres, and even more movies. There was another group of people that despised this. These people hated disco and all it stood for. Many protests to stop disco were held in major cities around the country, to try and get disco out of the American culture. "The Day the Disco Died" occurred on July 12, 1979. • 16. How Does Music Intensify Ecstasy? For this discussion I chose an article from the Correlation and Causation website titled "Music intensifies ecstasy effects". In this article, the author highlights that music intensifies the effects of the drug Ecstasy. For his argument he uses a research conducted by Iannone and colleagues made with rats. He emphasizes that the study showed that even rats that received a higher dose of ecstasy could return to a normal state after one day of its administration. Additionally, he indicated that even rats receiving low doses of ecstasy did not showed brain activity modification when no music was played. Conversely, he adds that total electrical brain activity on rats was significantly decreased in the presence of loud music, similar to what is heard in discotheques, (Barnes, 2006). In this article, Barnes subjectively misrepresented Iannone study results. Moreover, Barnes established causation on his article; this is inappropriate because correlation does not imply absolute cause, (Rosnow & Rosenthal, 2013). ... Challenges related to marketing and branding in the Chinese beer industry: Source: Loizos Heracleous (2001)When Local Beat Global: The Chinese Beer Industry. In spite of the fact that the level of taxation on the beer retail price in China was one of the lowest in the world at 19% (as compared with South Korea at 53.5%, Australia at 52.8% or the UK at 44.6%, for example), beer producers in China found it hard to make a profit, generally operating at capacity utilization levels of just 50–65%. The problems faced by foreign entrants can be summarized under four heads: _ The high ... Most of the international brands are only available through ''on–premise'' channels like hotels, restaurants, bars, and karaoke bars. On– premise prices are considerably higher than off–premise retail, and indeed considerably higher than many Chinese consumers can afford. Among status–conscious buyers purchasing beer in hotels, bars, discotheques, and restaurants, however, demand is relatively price inelastic. Some customers are prepared to pay very high prices even by Western standards for the right brand, as a sign of status. Most foreign brewers had imported their brands to China before producing them domestically. Multinational brewers had spent large sums on advertising, especially in the bigger hotels and restaurants where prices were already high. In order to secure access to higher–paying customers who were frequenting these restaurants and hotels, larger beer companies paid an extra concession fee to sell on these premises, thus furthering raising the final price of the beer. As a result, many local Chinese beers were being pushed out with foreign beers often sold at twice the price of local ones. Overseas brewers then began to import brands rather than products by finding cooperative partners in China: the world's top 10 brewers had all entered the market in this way. ... • 38. The Importance Of Dance In My Life Dance In My Life Dance, along with music, has always been a part of my life. As a child, my sister and I would 'choreograph' our own dance routines pretending to be with the USO. We wanted to be like The Supremes or Martha and the Vandellas, or even the Bee Gees or Osmonds. Together, we would make up 'song and dance' routines then perform them for our family. Really, we were just trying to please our daddy whom we adored. Regrettably, I was never able to participate in formal dance training. Most other kids joined the dance classes at Tony Deel's Studio but I was unable to do so for financial reasons. Alternatively, I became a cheerleader and that same year I was allowed to also join drill team and pom squad. Initially, I was a lanky, awkward teen with little coordination, but in time I gained skills and dance moves that put me at the front of the squad. Surprisingly, I became so adept at the moves in the routines I was able to also choreograph many of our performances. Dance became my 'happy place'. There, in front of all the crowds of people at the football or basketball games, I was no longer the shy little girl who was embarrassed to speak for fear of being made fun of. My self–image of being a scrawny, crooked toothed, flat–chested little curly mop–head didn't matter when I was performing. I was so good at it, that I was able to show off those skills with confidence. This form of dance saved me from a life of cowering in the corner or in the shadows of my peers. ... But they were not the innocent teenagers that Dahl still makes them out to be – they were "agitated, riotous, rockist thugs protesting a rhythmic dance that was explicitly black, brown, gay, and woman–centric" (Shepherd). According to Vince Lawrence, who was a 15 year old usher at Comiskey Park, there were more than just disco records being burned that night. Teenagers awaiting entry, most of them straight, white, male, and blue collar, brought Stevie Wonder records, Marvin Gaye records – in other words not disco, just black, and proceeded to burn them (Drake).
