The American Cinema s First Phase
`American Cinema s first phase (up to around 1917) is characterised by an onscreen coming to
terms with the nation s transformation into a mature industrial society (Jon Lewis, Early Cinema ,
P.3) with all its attendant thrills and anxieties. Discuss.
An evolution of society occurred with the dawn of the twentieth century, an undeniably American
progression. With a sudden introduction to technologies only just tangible, Alexander Graham Bell
s telephone in 1876 and Henry Ford s car in 1908 amongst a few of these newly invented
accomplishments, divisions in wealth and subsequently class became even more distinguished
than before. An exodus to the urban landscape had begun at the turn of the century, between
1880 and 1920 the proportion of Americans living in urban centres grew from 26 to 51 percent
(Lewis, 3), and as the melting pot of New York grew under the divided class system and
overwhelming industrial progress crime inevitably took a hold in the streets and behind closed
doors. D.W Griffiths borns into the world the first ever gangster movie, an urban folk take
(Merritt, 161) that was intended to portray the evil of the gangster in New York. (Merritt, 158).
Created a social expose Griffiths gangster movie takes an intimate snapshot of the streets of the
urban jungle and gives the audience a reality they didn t realise they were living.
Griffith s exposes the newly industrialised working class almost instantly, as we watch a poor
musician sell his violin in

Analysis Of The Human Condition By Jon Bellion
Introduction The Human Condition is Jon Bellion s first album and is rising in popularity through
its appeal to the pop genre and witty lyrics. Jon Bellion is the character in his own album and his
journey from a child to an adult and a nobody to a celebrity is the primary focus throughout most of
his songs. The journey of himself through the songs is what makes the lyrics interesting. The
general understanding is that Bellion wishes to portray himself as unique but humble. The
pressures he feels from society and the pressures of his childhood are prominent in the
understanding of his self expression. Bellion seeks to find the universal in the specific. The Human
Condition is an attempt to transcend his own experiences, to say something... Show more content on

Maroon 5 s Adam Levine and Jesse Carmichael. Bellion pulls influences from many artists and
producers, including Kanye West, Timbaland and J. Dilla. His ability to blend genres often makes
it tough to categorize his sound, but his inspirations are evident throughout his projects. His name
started getting more recognition after co writing the chorus for Eminem s The Monster , which
topped the charts in 12 countries. In 2015, he was featured on Zedd s song Beautiful Now and has
also received credits with the likes of CeeLo Green on the track Robin Williams and Jason Derulo

The Secret Scripture Analysis
Although the novel The Secret Scripture written by Sebastian Barry is constantly alternating
between past and present, the transition happens quickly and smoothly. This is due to the narrator
s use of the relationship with the past and what is happening during the present. What starts as the
present bleeds into the past through Roseanne s hidden biography. The way on page sixty, how
she is in the past remembering when her father was demoted to a rat catcher. Then page sixty one
the reader is in the present again, but it s not random. She is saying how clearly she remembers
that day. Then on that same page she jumps back to remembering how prideful her father was of his
job in the cemetery. You don t even realize that you stopped reading one recollection and have
already gone into the other. Another thing about the transition... Show more content on

Greene as her son was interesting as well. It s known that she had a child and that Dr. Greene is
adopted. Yet reading through both of their lives has to happen before the truth is finally
discovered. The experience and the confusion of Dr. Greene as he is investigating Roseanne s
life, starting from the beginning and up to the end. Only for him to wind up at the house she
was excommunicated to. Where he proceeded to find a rosebud from the bushes that she cared
for, and taking it. Roseanne s recount of her life is parallel with Dr. Greene s. Except Roseanne
s view before is read before Dr. Greene s. There is also two different stories from The Secret
Scripture . Dr. Greene is reading Fr. Gaunt s recollection of Roseanne s life. Which makes the
reader question how trustworthy Fr. Gaunt is as a source seeing as he wasn t there for half of the
events and he was also strangely obsessed with her life. Her sexuality mostly. This brings in the
question of how true any of the recollections are. Remembering the past is difficult for Roseanne.
She is constantly second guessing

I Remember The Big Poster
When you turn on the television to watch the news on KDKA TV you may have noticed a new
broadcast meteorologist providing you with information you need to plan your day. Ron Smiley
started delivering outlooks to residents of Western Pennsylvania in June of 2015, but has always
been curious about the weather. While in school, during bring a parent to talk about work, I
would ask Mr. Mike. Mr. Mike was Ron s next door neighbor who worked for the National
Weather Service and always made time to talk about the weather with him. I remember the big
poster he gave me that described the different cloud types and formation s when I was 4 years
old and it stuck with me. He attended Little Rock Catholic High where he played basketball,
studied and went on to graduate from Arkansas Tech University with a Bachelors degree before
earning his broadcast degree from Mississippi State. This provided him with an opportunity to
also talk about the weather and inspire other young people Ron has worked at stations in

American Sniper Sarcasm
I think that American Sniper was a great book and it is now one of my all time favorites. I
especially liked how you explained the terms you used in the book. I did not know all the terms
you used, but with your explanations I was never confused after reading on. I also liked how you
made the reader feel like he or she was in the situation in the book. When discussing your battle
situations, you used lots of detail. This let the reader know exactly what you were talking about.
One other part I liked was the way you used sarcasm. Throughout the book your occasional
sarcasm made me laugh and keep reading. For all of these reasons, I will definitely be reading this
book again.
As I was reading, I came upon a couple questions I would like to

Dutch Golden Age Essay
From the late sixteenth century up until the end of eighteenth century, Dutch Republic attracted
numerous migrants from other European countries (Van Lottum, 2007). The province Holland
became a global center for trades, culture and science during this period, which is what we call
Dutch Golden Age now. A reflection of the flourishing economy in Holland is the Dutch East India
Company (VOC), which was sponsored by not only the government but also Dutch citizens. It
raised 6.5 million guilders at that time about three million euros which were worth billions at the
time. With the money, they started the company and overseas expansion. Moreover, in 1609, the
first stock exchange was born in Amsterdam. The stockholders of VOC could convert their... Show

In the seventeenth century, the German accounted for 43% of all immigrants in Holland cities
(Lucassen, 2002, cited in Van Lottum, 2007). The Thirty Years War between 1618 and 1648 had
a devastating influence on Germany. Many Germans were deprived of homes and even of lives.
The German mark devalued by 25% just between 1619 and 1622, while prices of goods such as
wheat and wine went up by as much as 300%. Combined with falling wages for German workers,
this led to a steep decline in quality of life (Kamen, 1968). That s why many Germans left their
home and settled in new places like the Netherlands. Most German immigrants to the Netherlands
were actually refugees due to Thirty Years War. The priority for them when arriving in the
Netherlands was to find a job to make a living. In Amsterdam, Typical occupations for not
Amsterdammers represented in the marriage registers were unschooled laborers in the construction
trades (96%), tailors (92%), bakers (92%), shoemakers (81%), and seamen (76%). Tailors, bakers,
and shoemakers were overwhelmingly Germans. (Phillips, 2008) German immigrants did the
physically demanding and lowly paid job in the Netherlands and became a huge source of cheap
labor, which has a positive effect on the Dutch financial success at the time. German immigrants
also made a great contribution to Dutch maritime trade. Dutch Republic was a seaborne empire, so

The Foreclosure Of The Last Couple Years
Foreclosure in the last couple years has become a well known word to a lot of young people, and
has become more frequent in the last couple of years. My family has gone through the process
and it was a very emotional time for us all. The only home my family was able to get into was one
that could be rented with the option to buy. Having more homes in the market that have that option
makes it not only more convenient, but more affordable for families like mine who have gone
through foreclosure. Giving possible tenants the option to rent towards owing is a great way to get
the housing market back on track. People who are struggling financially cannot afford to just buy a
home. Allowing people the option to rent towards buying, takes some of the stress off the tenants
and allows longer time to come up with the money, which means less people getting evicted or
foreclosed on. The less people that are foreclosed on, the better the market for homes will be.
Currently the market is great for anyone who is financially stable to purchase any home that has a
foreclosure sign out front. If the option rent to own was made more available the people looking
for homes, then it would allow them to save more money until they were financially stable to either
buy the home, or move to another affordable location. The owners who do offer the rent to own
option are not only allowing the tenants time to come to a more stable financial state, but are
making money themselves. If the

Summary Of Roy Baumeister s Four Main Needs Of Meaning
5. List and discuss the details of Roy Baumeister s four main needs for meaning. Each individual
that is brought into this world has some sort of meaning in their lives, it s up to each individual
to find their identity and place in this world. Roy Baumeister is one of the greatest social
psychologists to explain the self worth of each human. Throughout his career Baumeister has
created different variables on the definition of meaning. First, Baumeister explains that purpose
is the first topic of understanding meaning in one s life. The thought of one s person purpose is
their objective goals and/or the reason for which something exists or created. Basically, grasping
an understanding for your purpose in life can come at any age, and is hard to figure out at a
young age. Everyone s purpose in life is different, it s all about how you create your own path to
achieve your goals. Values is the second of the four main needs of meaning Baumeister
preaches. The importance of values is each individual s judgment of what s important in life.
Values hold a lot of worth to an individual. For example, one s values could be the belief of God
in their life, being in a happy, functional family, and that honesty and the truth is very important.
Some people don t need a million dollars to be content and happy in life, sticking and believing
their values can go a long way in someone s happiness. Third, is efficacy and the belief that one can
make a difference. Going throughout

What Are The Five Major Inventions Of The Industrial...
Five greatest inventions of the industrial revolution
The Industrial Revolution was a time period that brought many great things to this world. The five
greatest are the first long lasting light bulb, the first internal combustion engine. The telephone, the
transatlantic cable. And of course the first airplane. That doesn t even scratch the surface of the
time period.
To start the first long lasting incandescent light bulb. In 1878 Thomas Edison first started to develop
the first long lasting incandescent light bulb. He was granted the patent for it in 1879. In 1880 he
had successfully completed the first long lasting incandescent light bulb. ...Edison and his team
discovered that a carbonized bamboo filament could last over 1200 hours. (bulbs.com) Edison and

was so important because it paved way for most of the light sources we use today. The bulb works

The Transatlantic Cable was a telegraph cable laid under the Atlantic Ocean. Though there were
many attempts to create the cable it was officially laid in 1866. Learning from the 1865
expedition, changes were made in the cable design, to the cable paying out machine and to the
Great Eastern itself. (atlantic cable.com) This quote explains the fact that the cable was attempted
and failed just barely a year before the first successful attempt was made. The cable was an
innovating invention because it was the first way for instant communication from the united states
to europe. The cable made it easy for the united states to speak to european countries without
having to send letter by ship. Cyrus field was the leading charge in the cable. He was the driving
force behind the cable. Without him it would have been almost impossible to make the

It was the main entry point for the people who pursued the Pacific route to arrive in United

of the people didn t spent much time on the island as they were immediately allowed to enter

the name as The Ellis Island of West due to the large number of immigrants to be immigrated.
Despite of the given name, Angel Island was different from Ellis Island. On one side, Ellis Island
processed large number of immigrants and welcomed them in the states immediately, while Angel
Island on other side didn t welcomed many immigrants, especially, Chinese immigrants. This is
because of the implementation of The Chinese Exclusion Act in 1882 and its periodical updating
till 1943, which lead to hamper the entry of Chinese Immigrants to the United States. The large
number of Chinese coming for the gold rush in America were restricted by the immigration officers
at Angel Island. Immigration authorities confined recently arrived Chinese individuals while they

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Rare Earth Metals
ABSTRACT: Rare earth elements or rare earth metals are a group of seventeen elements in the
Periodic Table including Scandium, Yttrium and 15 Lanthanides with Z ranging continuously
from 57 to 71. These elements encompass nearly all electronic, clean energy, and military
technologies due to their unique physical and chemical properties. Despite world wide usage of
these elements, presently China bears a monopoly in rare earth market owing to its huge rare
earth deposits. The ever increasing demand and restricted export of REE from China has forced
counties around the world to explore resources available to them. Propelled by increasing demand
and a need for self sufficiency to provide for growing industry demands, India plans to triple its
output by 2017.Though a number of conventional techniques are already in practice they are too
costly and environmentally destructive to be used for the widely dispersed low grade resources.
Furthermore, the processing of low grade ores would lead to generation of additional amount of
wastes of complex nature. Thus, there is an urgent need to search for alternative rare earth mining
techniques. For this reason Phytoextraction would be a better alternative. In... Show more content

The Voyage Out Analysis
In The Voyage Out by Morley Callaghan, he is making a critique of the way men use the male
gaze, and how it makes women feel. Jeff who is in a state of excitement is trying to figure out his
identity and what the male gaze does for him; the male gaze affects Jeff s life through Jessie, the
girl in the green hat, and Eva and how his looking upon them makes them feel.
Jessie affects Jeff in a way that captivates him and makes him excited. Our first description of
Jessie is, [Jeff] discovered she as neat and pretty, he began to watch her furtively ... when she got
up to go, he followed her out (46). Jeff is his exerting his use of the male gaze and staring at Jessie.
Jessie seems to enjoy Jeff s male gaze and returns his affections, she suddenly put her arms tight
around him, lifted up her face, held him as if she would never let him go, and let him know she
was offering him all her love (47). Jessie gives Jeff exactly what he wants, almost; but even the
thought that Jessie is willing to sleep with him has him basking in, his own triumphant importance
(47). The male gaze works in Jeff s benefit in his situation with Jessie, and Jessie appears to be
accepting of the male gaze.
With the girl in green hat there is an alternate side to the male gaze. Mike a man older than Jeff
and a man that Jeff is, yearning to possess [his] wisdom (49). While Mike and Jeff are sitting in a
restaurant, Jeff notices two young women. Mike declares that, she s a cinch, (48) towards the

The Game Of Cricket Has A Long History
Physical education starts from the very birth of a child. Physical activity includes play, exercise,
games, sports, athletics, leisure and recreation. Exercise refers to exertion of muscles, links etc
for health sake. Game denotes physical exertion for amusement or competition governed by
definite rules. Sports mean all those physical activities done for diversion, amusement, pleasure
or success. The game of cricket has a long history. Research showed that creag was the name of a
game played in the year 1300 in England. This game was played with a crooked stick. A
cricketer bat was originally in a curved shape. No school has ever come up with any other
explanation that creag was cricket but essentially it is an English game. A few scholars argue
that cricket dates from a game known as Creag referred to in early medieval literature, but it is
generally accepted that the first reliably dated reference is one that showed up in the guide
merchant book of 1598. The game of cricket has always been loved throughout the country.
Whenever a tournament starts, the cricket enthusiasts forget their daily work and are glued to the
television set. Cricket stumps were first pitched on Indian soil as early as 1721 in Cambay
situated in the same western region as Ranjit Singh s Nawanagar. Along Bombay s marine drive
and in the vicinity of church gate. Cricket is played everywhere. The early encounters were
between the army and the settlers of the East India company. Then in 1792,

Reading Literature Makes Us Smarter And Nicer By Annie...
In the article Reading Literature Makes Us Smarter and Nicer by Annie Murphy Paul (2013) the
author admonishes that deep reading increases our capacity of empathy on real life situations. Paul
acknowledges the argument that Gregory Currie, professor of philosophy at the University of
Nottingham says about how there is no evidence that people become morally/socially better for
reading great books. However, Paul continues to support that reading enhances our way of life and
understandingof individuals. Deep reading affects our way of culture, understanding, and knowledge
in a positive way.
By reading books and becoming engaged in them, it gives the reader a new sense of an ecstatic
experience as Paul states. If a reader is enjoying a book, thy will take their time to read it and
become deep in reflection of their own self. They can connect the ideas from a book to their own
lives, and even establish some opinions of their own on what they are reading, which improves
our culture as a society. By encouraging other people to read, and young people to read earlier,
they can have a finer chance to acquire the skill of spiritual reading. In today s society, many
young people have become more engaged in technology, excluding out the other ways to explore
the world. However, they can experience both without having to sacrifice one over the other, and
it benefits them in the long run. My younger brother, who is two years old, knows how to work a

Ecological Impact Of Fur Trade On American Culture
When the Europeans visitors started coming to North America they hoped to find vast amounts of
gold and silver, but they found something else, which proved to be just as valuable as furs. The
ecological impact of the fur trade on the Indians of the North America demonstrates that the Indians
were not the beneficiaries, but the victims in fur tradewith all the other Europeans countries which
affected them socially, environmentally and economically. French and the English fisherman in
1500 s were the first to purchase fur from the Indians, in exchange the Indians received European
manufactured goods such as knives, guns and steel blades, for example according to the text
Indigenous Peoples of the Arctic, Subarctic, and Northwest Coast. Ed said, That could be fitted to
traditional adzes to cut more efficiently than stone or shell blades, yet initially spurned axe and
hatchet blades because these required a drastic change in motor habits and coordination patterns. 1

America, they simply traded and went back... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By the 1750 s almost every Indian man in the Great Lakes region owned a rifle, and Indian women
relied almost completely on other utensils. Most Indians wear clothes manufactured in Europe
rather than leather or fur. During summer, they lived in small villages which often consisted of
several hundred people. In these villages, they gathered fish and grew crops for food. In the winter,
these villages would split up in to small hunting bands. Furthermore Indians started their hunts
earlier in the winter, and focused on animals which produced valuable pelts and they migrated

Reoccurring Themes In The Great Debaters
The Great Debaters is an extraordinary and inspiring movie; it incorporated a rich story. The move
is based on a true story; the story dates back to the 1930 s. It was about four African American
students from Wiley College who are on the school s debate team, throughout the movie we see the
discrimination they faced in the South.
There are many reoccurring themes that can be depicted
from this movie. This includes racial discrimination and love. Racial discrimination can be seen
when Mr. James Farmer accidentally ran over a white man s pig, as a result he was charged a
very high amount for the pig. We assume that if it were a white man he wouldn t have been
charged nearly as much. However, when the team challenged and defeated a few white... Show

The theme of love is also shown. James Farmer Jr., 14 year old boy, seizes to hide that he like
Samantha, aspiring female lawyer, but sadly for Jr. Samantha likes Henry, the other debater. After
constant rejection, including Samantha sleeping with Henry, Jr. gets frustrated and get into an
argument with Samantha following Professor Melvin Tolson s arrest. However, the role shifts, and
Jr. becomes angry at Henry because he cheated on her. Thus, we can see the shift of both the themes
racial discrimination and love.
The various types of music in the movie The Great Debaters
really did evoke emotions in a way that was effective to the audience. Whether it was a positive or
negative vibe. For example, during the party scene the music was very up beat and uprising. It
gave a sense of expression where the people were able to dance freely around people who liked the
similar music. Invoking a sense of unity and happiness. Furthermore, loud suspenseful music, seen
in the night meeting scene evoked contrasting emotions to the audience. James Farmer Jr. secretly
went to the meeting, out of curiosity, he was watching the meeting the whole time. During the night
meeting we see Professor Tolson attempting to organize a union of black and white

1 person was trial, and 9 people had adopted.
I chose an abortive lever that got the CEO s public support. Unfortunately, this lever was not

when I held town hall meetings. Trial units increased to 5. At this point in time, 4 people had

weeks, since there were no alternation among interest, trial, and adoption. I conducted private
interviews, issued e mail notice, revised reward system, and built a coalition of support to
convince the 10 un adoption individuals. However, the data did not change until I held town hall

1. Window Air Conditioner
Window air conditioner is the most commonly used air conditioner for single rooms. In this air
conditioner all the components, namely the compressor, condenser, expansion valve or coil,
evaporator and cooling coil are enclosed in a single box. This unit is fitted in a slot made in the
wall of the room, or more commonly a window sill.
2. Split Air Conditioner
The split air conditioner comprises of two parts: the outdoor unit and the indoor unit. The outdoor
unit, fitted outside the room, houses components like the compressor, condenser and expansion
valve. The indoor unit comprises the evaporator or cooling coil and the cooling fan. For this unit
you don t have to make any slot in the wall of the room. Further, present day split units have
aesthetic appeal and do not take up as much space as a window unit.

The Importance Of A Cultural Framework That Is Suitable...
1.0 INTRODUCTION
Budgets are very important part of business environment. They are considered to be essential key
drivers and evaluators for planning and control as well as managerial performance since 1920
(Reka et al., 2014). This report aims to investigate how to promote a cultural framework that is
suitable for the modern dynamic business environment. Firstly, it will explain the concept of
budgetary control, It will then point out advantages and disadvantages of the current traditional
system and how some weaknesses can be addressed by implementing Beyond Budgeting (BB) using
practical examples of organisations that have been successful and what were the problems that they
have encountered. It will also discuss why some organisations ... Show more content on

2.2 Benefits of Traditional Budgeting
Budgeting is a management control technique that can be used as an early warning system.
Budgets are of great help as a support performance management (Pietrzak, 2013). It can provide a
detailed information insight of the next fiscal year, which allows managers to set performance
objectives much more easily, make decisions and plan ahead. For example: When recession hit
Europe in 2008, Davis Service Group was able to assess effects and was able to build new and
accurate theories for the remainder of 2008. By recognizing and handling risks, Davis has been
able to return profits, dividends and cash flow for shareholders in a challenging economic
environment.
Budgets generate a point of reference, making it easier for managers to accomplish activities with
stability. As long as managers can meet the set parameters, budgeting and the use of budgetcost
centers provide them with the liberty to run their operations (Neely at al., 2003).
Budgets are a great communication tool used when obtaining information about company or e.g.
activities of its competitors. They also help in expressing ideas, goals and strategies of projects
between team members/employees and outside resources or potential investors, motivating
employee to drive forward.

Essay about Advice to Choose the Best Cleaning Company
When it comes to cleaning the floors in your home, there are a plethora of companies to choose
from. Most of them use the same technology. Many of them do a good job, but there are some
companies that would rather take your money than make you a raving fan. Here are five ways to
be sure you are working with the right carpetcleaning company.
1.Don t Select a Company Based on Their Cheap Ad Prices.
Often, people are lead to believe that they are going to get a quality job at an incredible discount
when they call the company whose coupon they clipped out of the Sunday paper. These ads are
nothing more than a gimmick to get the company through the door. Once they get in there, they
will use bait and switch tactics and try to convince you ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A competent carpet cleaner is going to take you on a walkthrough of your own home where they
can discuss problem areas with you. They will discuss areas where their services should be able to
help, where they may not work. The carpet cleaner should meet the expectation that they
themselves set. If they do not meet the expectation, they need to return and take care of those
problem areas free of charge.
If they still cannot fix the area to the expectations they set, they should, without question, refund
your money.
4.Do Your Homework
Anyone can tell you anything you want to hear to get into your home. You can either take their word
for it, or you can ask them for references, client testimonials or businesses that are referring their
business out to other clients. Call the Better Business Bureau to find out if their business is in good
standing with the community. You can also check with local chambers of commerce and other
business organizations.
You do not have to just take their word for it. There are plenty of other carpet cleaning companies
to choose from.
5.Always Remember: Safety First
The carpets are usually going to be cleaned during the day when the breadwinner is at work. The
home will either be empty or only one spouse will be at home. It is of upmost importance that you
know that the company you are inviting into your residence does background checks and screens
their employees. You want to be sure your family is safe

Rhetorical Devices In One Thousand Paper Cranes
Mode Paragraph: The rhetorical mode of One Thousand Paper Cranes a is narrative that follows
the narrative arc. It is narrative because it follows the narrative arc of exposition, inciting
incident, rising action, climax, falling action, and a resolution throughout the story. The books
starts off with the inciting incident of the bomb being on Hiroshima which cause Sadoko to
become ill and die in the future. The rising action lets us follow Sadoko as her condition worsens
The climax of the book is Sadoko s death if shifted the direction of the book to a what will
happen next. The falling action let s Sadoko s class take charge of how the will remember her.
The resolution is Sadoko s class fundraising to have the peace park built for all the kids that died
because of the radiation. That is why the rhetorical mode of One Thousand Paper Cranes is narrative
.
Character Paragraph: In this story Sadoko is the protagonist that is having to overcome the
newly grow issue of leukemia. Also this story main focuses on her and her action. I believe
Sadoko is a flat character because throughout the book we are reminded of her strong will and
determination which was never be deterred until death. Which can be seen when Sadoko is
described as being vibrant and athletic and we know on page 32 and toward the end you can see
her hard work never ended when she still continued to make paper cranes even after her condition
worsened. In addition, I believe Sadoko is a dynamic character. Came to this conclusion, we see
her express many different characters. She is happy, saddened at times, kind, Optimistic, and
cheerful. In conclusion, I feel these ways because Sadoko s spirit and many character traits stand
strong.
Point Of View Paragraph: The point of view of this story is third person omniscient because we
are able to understand the feelings and thought process inside of each character. The paragraph I
will rewrite is on page 41 and I will change the point of view from third person omniscient to first
person.

Although not on the same scale as the 9/11 attacks, terrorists have successfully executed plots in
the United States, the United Kingdom and France. For example, on April 15, 2013, an attack at

The pet market is booming, in 2017, the Canadian pet care market will see rapid growth. Despite
stagnation in the pet population, this indisputable performance was possible in Canada and was
supported by the pet humanization trend. This trend has led to increased value sales as pet owners

over the past decade thanks to rising pet ownership and changing consumer preferences regarding

Realism Vs Classical Realism
Realism is considered the most leading school of thought in international relations, as realism is
also one of the oldest and most entrenched theories of International Relations (Steans, Pettiford,
Diez El Anis 2013, p. 53). All realist share a perspective that states are unitary rational actors that
are encouraged by the desire for military power and security rather than principles or ethics. Realists
view human nature as self seeking, conflictual and competitive and consider that states are
inherently violent as realismvalues order and does not welcome change. There are several forms of
realism such as, structural, neo and classical, however this essay will focus on classical realism, its
key theorists, its strength and weakness and how my view on international politics has changed
over the course of this unit.
Classical realism is a theory of international relations that was founded in the post world war 2
time that pursues to explain international politics as a result of human nature. Classical realism is
also a state level theory that argues that all states seek power, which is driven by desire to achieve
national interests. Classical realists concentrate on two areas of politics; restrictions imposed by
human self interest such as, egoism and anarchy in the absence of international government
(Donnelly 2013, p. 32). Power is the key concept for realists and they argue that to survive, states
must increase their power by internal development such as in the economic

The Negative Effects Of Media Multitasking And Its Effects...
1. The key issue which pertains to child development in this article is the negative effects which
multitasking has on kids brains and their ability to store long term memories. Many children and
teens have the overly inflated idea that they can attend to multiple things at once and still pay
attention to homeworkor a teacher talking in class. Multitaskingin general is not harmful but when it
comes to children multitasking while they are learning, it has the potential for the biggest negative
effect (Paul, 2013). In Paul s (2013) article, there is research presented by the Kaiser Family
Foundation which indicated that a third of the individuals who were surveyed stated that they used
other media outlets at the same time as they were studying or doing homework. Media multitasking
while learning has the most potential to have negative downsides because it is impairing the storing
of the long term memories necessary to recall said information later. In other studies, researchers
have recorded the large increase of negative effects which took place when children multitask while
studying. The most important thing for parents to do is remember that their children will media
multitask and it s okay. Just make sure that when it comes to homework that they put everything
aside and focus on what s in front of them (Roberts, 2013).
2. In the research presented in Berk (2018), it is seen that multitasking considerably reduces
learning capabilities. Children who are multitasking

Biblical Covenants Of The Old Testament God
Throughout the Old Testament God has picked His chosen people to guide and protect. God uses
covenants with His people to hold them accountable to their actions. Covenants are agreements
between two people that form a bond. To show how important covenants were in the Ancient times,
an animal would be cut in half and both parties would walk between the halves implying that if the
covenant was broken then the party that broke the covenant would be killed. Godused this ideal of
covenants to lead His children. The Old Testamentcovenants will show God, God s relationship

when the floodwaters started to come. After the floodwaters had dried up God called Noah and

The Bible introduces a solution to the worlds sinful dilemma. The faithful obedience of a single

Suspense In The Liars
The text We Were Liars written by E. Lockhart follows the summers of a group of teenagers,
collectively called The Liars. The narrator of the story, Cadence Sinclair, suffers from an accident
on their island, and loses most of her memory. Throughout the chapters, she pieces together the
timeline and finds out what truly happened the summer of her accident. The story focuses around
the theme of choices and power, and the author pushes the idea that all actions have consequences.
An interesting and important episode in the book was when Cadence discovers that her accident
involved her killing her friends. The Liars decided to set fire to one of the family houses on the
island, attempting to get rid of the family feud over who had power over it. As Cadence was on the
ground floor, the fire grew upwards, and her 3 friends died as the house burnt, and she was the only
one able to escape. To me, this is one of the most interesting scenes in the book, as even after the
accident, Cadence was having conversations and physical contact with them, though in the end, you
find out that they were merely hallucinations brought on from her head injury, or even ghosts. I
liked how the author did this, as she showed only minor hints throughout the book that they weren t
alive, and it left you guessing until the end of the book. The way the author creates a feeling of
suspense throughout the novel because of this left me wanting to keep reading. Cadence

Stereotypes In Mexican Culture
Stereotypes are uneducated opinions towards a certain group, most commonly used within races,
skin colors, and cultures. Stereotypes are usually from a majority group towards a minority group.
Most of us do not think about it much but, Stereotypes are in our everyday lives, and everyone has
taken part of a stereotype, either they have been the one stereotyping or they have been the victim
of a stereotype and has been stereotyped. Throughout my life, I have heard a lot of stereotypes
towards my kind, and more than likely it is always a negative stereotype. Some stereotypes
through time die off but as they die off, new stereotypes flood or society. I am a minority, I am
Mexican American and classify myself and embrace myself as one. The stereotype that I have
experienced the most is that all Mexicans are unintelligent delinquents. The stereotype of Mexicans
being unintelligent and lazy was influenced by the media. Media sources in our lives skew the way
we judge people. This stereotype may be taken lightly by everyone who iterates it but what is not
taken into account is the effect this stereotype has in the community for those of us that are
Mexican. It has a negative impact on my community, I noticed that the negative effect of this
stereotype starts by influencing a couple of individuals and then expands to the community as a

Therefore, he had a great reputation and was in the highest possible position, the leader of the

The quadriceps femoris, most commonly referred to as quadriceps, comes from Latin, which
means, four headed muscle of the femur. These are large muscle groups that include the four
prevailing muscles on the front of the thigh. Quadriceps are also divided into four portions, or
heads, hence from the Latin origins. The quadriceps are powerful extensors of the knee joint. These
muscles are crucial for walking, running, jumping, and squatting.
The skeletal muscles are one of three major muscles types. As the name implies, these muscles are
attached to bones by bundles o collagen fibers that are known as tendons. Skeletal muscles are
made up of individual components that are known as muscle cells. These muscles have the
appearance of long cylinders. The basic function is responsible for skeletal muscles to

Disadvantages Of Rewable Energy
1.6RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCES Energy that comes from resources which are naturally
replenished on a human timescale such as sunlight, wind, rain, tides, waves and geothermal heat is
termed as renewable energy. The most common definition is that a natural process at a rate that is
equal to or faster than the rate at which that resource is being consumed by renewable energyis from
an energyresource. Renewable energy is a subset of sustainable energy.
1.61 Main types of renewable energy sources:
Hydro Power:
India is endowed with a large potential of hydro power, of which only 17% has been harnessed so
far. The hydroelectricity is a clean and renewable source of energy. It has been felt that there is a
long gestation period in hydro projects due to delays in forest and environment clearance,
rehabilitation of the project effected people besides inter state disputes and construction holdups
due to several reasons. Under RSE only small hydro projects are considered since they do not
require large pond age and have the capacity to provide power to remote and hilly terrain where
extension of the grid system is either un economic or not possible.
Solar Power: The climatic condition in India provides abundant potential of solar power due to
large scale radiation available during a wider part of the year due to tropical condition in the
country. The solar power can be developed for long term use through the application of solar photo

The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA)
The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), came into effect on January 1, 1994,
creating the largest free trade region in the world, generating economic growth and helping to
raise the standard of living for the people of all three countries participating. By strengthening
the rules and procedures governing trade and investment, the NAFTA has shown to be a great
base for adding to Canada s prosperity and has set a valuable example of the benefits of trade
liberalization for the rest of the world. NAFTA was designed with many economic results in
mind. Hopes were that not only trade would be easier, cheaper, and easier for all countries
involved, but economic wealth and growth would follow. The support for NAFTA was spilt among

That created a lot of pay cheques in Canada. (Marville)
Trade of commodities is not the only thing that has grown in response to NAFTA as Canada also
has benefited from an increase of trade in services. In Canada, NAFTA has helped to increase the
imports of goods over the past decade in these fields: machinery and equipment, communications
equipment, and automotive equipment. This has caused Canada s automotive industry to have a
noticeable rise, allowing the economy to increase positively. Exports of goods from Canada have
also grown significantly. Example being, in 1998, the increase in Canada s exports to the NAFTA
regions was approximately equivalent to the entire value of our exports to Japan and to the 15
nations of the European Union combined. These simple statistics can easily show how the North
American Free Trade Agreement has impacted the imports and exports to Canada positively. (Rolf
Mirus) Canada has benefited directly from NAFTA as every one in five jobs are in linked to
international trade. (GlobeRover) With the savings from tax and tariff extermination between the
three NAFTA regions, Canada is able to spend money on hiring more workers with more workers,
Canada receives more income and with more income, Canada receives more profit which in turn
leads to a better and stronger economy. Canada has added 4.7 million new jobs since 1993.

The Safest Sprint Starting Position For American Football...
In What is the Safest Sprint Starting Position for American Football Players? a research article
from Journal of Sports Science and Medicine, authors Bruno Bonnechere, Benoit Beyer, Marcel
Rooze, and Jan Serge Van Sint, argue that out of the three sprint start positions in football (2 , 3 ,
and 4 point), the 2 point stance is the least dangerous. To prove this, a study was conducted on
these positions and compared each to the safety levels in relation to American football. The results
justify that the 2 point stance is safer than the 3 point or 4 point positions. Bonnechere et al.
supports their claims by conducting a biomechanical analysis on twenty five males, all young
and fit, and recording measurements in different areas (Bonnechere et al., 2014). However, the
study exemplified field of view (FOV) and kinetic energy, and their relation to sprint starting
positions and safety. Field of view is [a] ratio between the height of the head and Verticality [,]
(Bonnechere et al., 2014). An increase in FOV will lower the injury risk, because players are more
alert of their environment. Ergo, they can avoid injury. According to the averages of each stance
and the categories, initial position and motion, [t]he FOV is increased when adopting a 2 point
starting position because the trunk is more vertical, (Bonnechere et al., 2014). Simply, when the
angle between the body s trunk and head is approximately straight, the FOV is high.
Besides field of view, the study analyzed

Examples Of Savage In Syria
Since the 1600 s philosophers have frequently debated whether or not man in his natural state is
civil or savage. Philosophers theorised that in a scenario called the state of nature a human s true
state would become apparent. The state of nature is defined by famous philosophers Hobbes and
Locke as the state men are (or would be) in living together without effective government
(Simmons 450). While the majority of the modern world appears to be civil there is one example
of the state of nature in which the savage nature of man can be seen clearly, Syria. Although Syria
does have a government, the government is not currently operating effectively and is not fulfilling
its responsibility to protect its citizens using civil laws. What started... Show more content on

The Syrian regime on countless occasions has displayed that humans act out of perceived self
interest as they have mercilessly attacked civilians for insignificant gains. While at war with the
Syrian regime the rebels have acted just as savage. After entering the state of nature as defined by
John Locke and Thomas Hobbes the Syrian rebels have slowly turned from civilians fighting for
peace, to monsters killing those they are supposedly fighting for. Furthermore, the Islamic State has
exemplified the brutal and savage nature of mankind as they have committed atrocities ranging
from sexual enslavement to massacres of villages for no reason other than for personal satisfaction.
Due to the fact Syria is a state of nature, the actions of the Syrian regime, the Syrian rebels, and the
Islamic State definitively prove that humans are inherently

Rhetorical Devices Used In Alice In Wonderland
The Many Meanings of Alice in Wonderland Alice s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the
Looking Glass, written by acclaimed British author Lewis Carroll, have enchanted people young
and old since their publications. Mr. Carroll uses many rhetorical devices to enhance these two
fairytales including but by no means limited to irony, symbolism, theme, metaphor, alliteration, and
ambiguity. Many types of irony are used throughout Alice s Adventures in Wonderland in particular.
One example of a particular form of ambiguity seen frequently is the use of homophones.
Homophones are words that sound the same but have different meanings such as air and heir .
Alice encounters this variety of obscurity first in chapter three after she has fallen down that fateful
rabbit hole. Situational irony in this story begins when Alice... Show more content on

In chapter three, Alice and several animals including a mouse, a duck, a dodo, a lorry, and an
eaglet were soaking wet after escaping the sea of tears that Alice had previously cried. When
discussing how they were to get dry again, Mouse spoke up. This is the driest thing I know. he
said. Mouse then began to speak in a monotonous tone about William the Conqueror and other
dull or dry things. (Wollner) Since this was obviously unable to get the group out of their soggy
state, Dodo suggested that they run a Caucus race. A caucus in politics is similar to a political
party, and a race is a contest between people, in this case for votes. The caucus race in this
fairytale is a literal race course in which There was no One, two, three, and away! but they began
running when they liked, and left off when they liked, so that it was not easy to know when the
race was over. . When Dodo decided that the race was over, he awarded prizes to everyone. This
use of ambiguity pokes fun at the political caucuses and elections of Lewis Carroll s time period.

What Are The Similarities Between Erwin Rommel And George...
When I discuss World War II, invariably my discussion always includes a discourse of two
generals, who in my opinion were two of the greatest generals of that war: Erwin Rommel and
George S. Patton. Both men were icons for their countries during this greatest of all wars, and they
were so similar and different in many ways of their personal and public lives.
Patton and Rommel both came from an extensive military training. Rommel joined the local
Infantry Regiment as an officer cadet in 1910 and was sent to the Officer Cadet School soon after.
He graduated on 15 November 1911 and was commissioned as a lieutenant in January 1912. Patton
attended Virginia Military Institute for only one year before being transferring to West Point
Military Academy. At West Point Patton was appointed Cadet Adjutant and... Show more content

Rommel used all of the skills he had hond to a fine edge while in WWI fighting in France, while
Patton used his talents of stragety with the new piece of equipment, the tank, to quickly distinguish

beginning of the North Africa campaign, where the two generals met on the battle field for the first
time.
Rommel is regarded as a chivalrous and humane officer because his command nor the troops in
those commands were ever accused of any war crimes. Like Rommel, Patton was a true
professional for the fair treatment of germal soilders, holding a respect for the men he fought

absolutely astonished to come back the next morning and realize that a small 10 year old girl by
the name of Winifred Foster had been posing as the prisoner. Mae Tuck had been held in custody
for the past few days and was due to hang in the gallows. She was convicted of the murder of
Henry Collins, a bright man with whom we spoke to earlier this week. Furthermore, Mae Tuck
and her family were accused of kidnapping the girl who helped her escape prison, Winifred.
Winifred, however, claims that this accusation is untrue and that she went with the Tuck family on
her own will. Winnie was always such a well behaved young lady, Winifred s mother sniffled, she
has certainly changed since she has returned home. I don t know what that monstrous family has

As an adult you are responsible for every action that you take, but before that action are a series of
thoughts that lead you to taking that action. Your personal responsibility starts at a young age, you
are either taught personal responsibility as you grow into an adult by being held accountable of
your own actions or the responsibility is taken from you. Depending on how you were brought up
your transition into becoming an adult can either be an easy one or a difficult one where everyone
is to blame but yourself. As an adult the one thing that you know is a constant is that you will be

Essay On Women s Rights In American Time
The Rights of Women in Shakespearian Time Verses Rights of Women Currently
Since Shakespearian time to the present, there has been a dramatic change in the expectations of
what women are supposed to do. In many different ways, women have started to be expected to
do quite a bit more. In terms of family management and overall authority within the family, as well
with expectations of what they are allowed to do outside the house. Since Shakespeare s time there
has been quite a few things concerning women s rights that have happened, in fact several hundred
years have passed, and a lot has changed in the world. For example, as it currently stands in the
United States of America, it is possible for a woman to become leader of our country, and several
others countries as well. Whereas in Shakespeare s time, Most countries were lead by a king, and
the thought of a woman being in charge of anything other than cooking and cleaning was
laughable. The only exception to this was in rare cases, the daughters and or wife of a noble or
person of royalty, who would sometimes be taught how to help manage the lands of the noble in
order to help whomever the daughter might marry. There are a few more examples of this in the
upcoming paragraph.

than property ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

States Department of Labor s website women made up forty seven percent of the nation s
workforce as of 2010. As that statistic shows, women now make up nearly half of the workforce in
America. That appears to be and is a significant jump in the amount of women

The Problem Of Organized Crime Essay
Organized crime is a major problem around the world and only grows larger as time goes on.
They increase in size and influence daily and become more of a threat to anyone who has the
displeasure of interacting with them. These gangs, as they re often called, deal in weapons,
drugs, and human trafficking, selling means to kill people, ruin their lives, or just plainly sell
people. Unfortunately actions such as these are commonplace nowadays among gangs as they
become more and more ruthless. We need to rid ourselves of gangs, that much is clear.
However, nowadays we re not in a position to do so. Everyone in the country needs to understand
the dangers of gangs and how they can grow anywhere despite law enforcement. Because it s not
the police that can do away with gangs for good, it s the citizen s responsibility to ensure these
gangs never grow and prosper. A problem facing the common citizen regarding this problem is
their perception of gangs, how they view gangs and how they think gangs operate. To the average
person when they think of a gang, they think of some teenagers smoking on a street corner
brandishing knives. And while that s partially true, it s very far from the whole truth. When it
comes to organized crime, there is no one type of gang, there different types of gangs varying in
their size, influence, and how dangerous they are. At the bottom of the food chain is the street
gangs consisting of a few dozen members at most and, like the name implies, they

The Industry Leaders Of The Non Alcoholic Beverage Market
The age of carbonated soft drinks, or as we know it in Canada as pop, all began in 17674, when
Dr. Joseph Priestley (1733 1804)3, created the first drinkable man made glass of carbonated
water. Born from Dr. Joseph Priestley original creation, are two corporate giants, Coca Cola
Company and PepsiCo Inc., which have grown to become household names across the world.
Throughout this report, we will be exploring the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threat
for each of these publically traded companies. We will further compare and analyse the financial
performance of these two industry leaders of the non alcoholic beverage market.
Background:Coca Cola Company According to King, M., M., (1986), In the early 1880 s, Dr.

French Wine Cola. (p. 85) According to King, M., M., (1986), Dr. Pemberton, himself explained
that the drink was composed of an extract from the leaf od Peruvian Coca, and the Kola nut. (p.

energy to the organs of respiration, and strengthening the muscular and nervous system. (p. 85), as
a pharmacist Dr. Pemberton promoted the drink for its health benefits. It was not until 1886, that

1. Was the junior accountant s analysis correct? Why or why not?
No, the junior accountant s analysis is not correct in classifying the lease as an operating lease in
accordance with IFRS. Whether or not a lease is classified as a finance or an operating lease
depends on if all of the benefits as well as risks of ownership have been shifted from the lessor to
the lessee.
According to IAS 17 10(d), a lease must be classified as a finance if either the lease term is for

finance leases should be recorded as an asset and a liability at the lower of the fair value of the

  • 3. The American Cinema s First Phase `American Cinema s first phase (up to around 1917) is characterised by an onscreen coming to terms with the nation s transformation into a mature industrial society (Jon Lewis, Early Cinema , P.3) with all its attendant thrills and anxieties. Discuss. An evolution of society occurred with the dawn of the twentieth century, an undeniably American progression. With a sudden introduction to technologies only just tangible, Alexander Graham Bell s telephone in 1876 and Henry Ford s car in 1908 amongst a few of these newly invented accomplishments, divisions in wealth and subsequently class became even more distinguished than before. An exodus to the urban landscape had begun at the turn of the century, between 1880 and 1920 the proportion of Americans living in urban centres grew from 26 to 51 percent (Lewis, 3), and as the melting pot of New York grew under the divided class system and overwhelming industrial progress crime inevitably took a hold in the streets and behind closed doors. D.W Griffiths borns into the world the first ever gangster movie, an urban folk take (Merritt, 161) that was intended to portray the evil of the gangster in New York. (Merritt, 158). Created a social expose Griffiths gangster movie takes an intimate snapshot of the streets of the urban jungle and gives the audience a reality they didn t realise they were living. Griffith s exposes the newly industrialised working class almost instantly, as we watch a poor musician sell his violin in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Analysis Of The Human Condition By Jon Bellion Introduction The Human Condition is Jon Bellion s first album and is rising in popularity through its appeal to the pop genre and witty lyrics. The pressures he feels from society and the pressures of his childhood are prominent in the understanding of his self expression. Bellion seeks to find the universal in the specific. • 5. The Secret Scripture Analysis Although the novel The Secret Scripture written by Sebastian Barry is constantly alternating between past and present, the transition happens quickly and smoothly. This is due to the narrator s use of the relationship with the past and what is happening during the present. What starts as the present bleeds into the past through Roseanne s hidden biography. The way on page sixty, how she is in the past remembering when her father was demoted to a rat catcher. Then page sixty one the reader is in the present again, but it s not random. She is saying how clearly she remembers that day. Then on that same page she jumps back to remembering how prideful her father was of his job in the cemetery. You don t even realize that you stopped reading one recollection and have already gone into the other. Another thing about the transition... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Greene as her son was interesting as well. It s known that she had a child and that Dr. Greene is adopted. Yet reading through both of their lives has to happen before the truth is finally discovered. The experience and the confusion of Dr. Greene as he is investigating Roseanne s life, starting from the beginning and up to the end. Only for him to wind up at the house she was excommunicated to. Where he proceeded to find a rosebud from the bushes that she cared for, and taking it. Roseanne s recount of her life is parallel with Dr. Greene s. Except Roseanne s view before is read before Dr. Greene s. There is also two different stories from The Secret Scripture . Dr. Greene is reading Fr. Gaunt s recollection of Roseanne s life. Which makes the reader question how trustworthy Fr. Gaunt is as a source seeing as he wasn t there for half of the events and he was also strangely obsessed with her life. Her sexuality mostly. This brings in the question of how true any of the recollections are. Remembering the past is difficult for Roseanne. She is constantly second guessing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I did not know all the terms you used, but with your explanations I was never confused after reading on. I also liked how you made the reader feel like he or she was in the situation in the book. When discussing your battle situations, you used lots of detail. This let the reader know exactly what you were talking about. One other part I liked was the way you used sarcasm. The province Holland became a global center for trades, culture and science during this period, which is what we call Dutch Golden Age now. A reflection of the flourishing economy in Holland is the Dutch East India Company (VOC), which was sponsored by not only the government but also Dutch citizens. It raised 6.5 million guilders at that time about three million euros which were worth billions at the time. With the money, they started the company and overseas expansion. In the seventeenth century, the German accounted for 43% of all immigrants in Holland cities (Lucassen, 2002, cited in Van Lottum, 2007). The Thirty Years War between 1618 and 1648 had a devastating influence on Germany. Many Germans were deprived of homes and even of lives. The German mark devalued by 25% just between 1619 and 1622, while prices of goods such as wheat and wine went up by as much as 300%. Combined with falling wages for German workers, this led to a steep decline in quality of life (Kamen, 1968). That s why many Germans left their home and settled in new places like the Netherlands. Most German immigrants to the Netherlands were actually refugees due to Thirty Years War. The priority for them when arriving in the Netherlands was to find a job to make a living. In Amsterdam, Typical occupations for not Amsterdammers represented in the marriage registers were unschooled laborers in the construction trades (96%), tailors (92%), bakers (92%), shoemakers (81%), and seamen (76%). Tailors, bakers, and shoemakers were overwhelmingly Germans. (Phillips, 2008) German immigrants did the physically demanding and lowly paid job in the Netherlands and became a huge source of cheap labor, which has a positive effect on the Dutch financial success at the time. • 10. The Foreclosure Of The Last Couple Years Foreclosure in the last couple years has become a well known word to a lot of young people, and has become more frequent in the last couple of years. My family has gone through the process and it was a very emotional time for us all. The only home my family was able to get into was one that could be rented with the option to buy. Having more homes in the market that have that option makes it not only more convenient, but more affordable for families like mine who have gone through foreclosure. Giving possible tenants the option to rent towards owing is a great way to get the housing market back on track. People who are struggling financially cannot afford to just buy a home. Allowing people the option to rent towards buying, takes some of the stress off the tenants and allows longer time to come up with the money, which means less people getting evicted or foreclosed on. The less people that are foreclosed on, the better the market for homes will be. Currently the market is great for anyone who is financially stable to purchase any home that has a foreclosure sign out front. If the option rent to own was made more available the people looking for homes, then it would allow them to save more money until they were financially stable to either buy the home, or move to another affordable location. The owners who do offer the rent to own option are not only allowing the tenants time to come to a more stable financial state, but are making money themselves. If the ... • 11. Summary Of Roy Baumeister s Four Main Needs Of Meaning 5. List and discuss the details of Roy Baumeister s four main needs for meaning. Each individual that is brought into this world has some sort of meaning in their lives, it s up to each individual to find their identity and place in this world. Roy Baumeister is one of the greatest social psychologists to explain the self worth of each human. Throughout his career Baumeister has created different variables on the definition of meaning. First, Baumeister explains that purpose is the first topic of understanding meaning in one s life. The thought of one s person purpose is their objective goals and/or the reason for which something exists or created. Basically, grasping an understanding for your purpose in life can come at any age, and is hard to figure out at a young age. Everyone s purpose in life is different, it s all about how you create your own path to achieve your goals. Values is the second of the four main needs of meaning Baumeister preaches. The importance of values is each individual s judgment of what s important in life. Values hold a lot of worth to an individual. For example, one s values could be the belief of God in their life, being in a happy, functional family, and that honesty and the truth is very important. Some people don t need a million dollars to be content and happy in life, sticking and believing their values can go a long way in someone s happiness. Third, is efficacy and the belief that one can make a difference. Going throughout ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It was also given the name as The Ellis Island of West due to the large number of immigrants to be immigrated. Despite of the given name, Angel Island was different from Ellis Island. On one side, Ellis Island processed large number of immigrants and welcomed them in the states immediately, while Angel Island on other side didn t welcomed many immigrants, especially, Chinese immigrants. • 14. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Rare Earth Metals ABSTRACT: Rare earth elements or rare earth metals are a group of seventeen elements in the Periodic Table including Scandium, Yttrium and 15 Lanthanides with Z ranging continuously from 57 to 71. These elements encompass nearly all electronic, clean energy, and military technologies due to their unique physical and chemical properties. Despite world wide usage of these elements, presently China bears a monopoly in rare earth market owing to its huge rare earth deposits. The ever increasing demand and restricted export of REE from China has forced counties around the world to explore resources available to them. Propelled by increasing demand and a need for self sufficiency to provide for growing industry demands, India plans to triple its output by 2017.Though a number of conventional techniques are already in practice they are too costly and environmentally destructive to be used for the widely dispersed low grade resources. Furthermore, the processing of low grade ores would lead to generation of additional amount of wastes of complex nature. In the article Reading Literature Makes Us Smarter and Nicer by Annie Murphy Paul (2013) the author admonishes that deep reading increases our capacity of empathy on real life situations. Paul acknowledges the argument that Gregory Currie, professor of philosophy at the University of Nottingham says about how there is no evidence that people become morally/socially better for reading great books. However, Paul continues to support that reading enhances our way of life and understandingof individuals. Deep reading affects our way of culture, understanding, and knowledge in a positive way. By reading books and becoming engaged in them, it gives the reader a new sense of an ecstatic experience as Paul states. If a reader is enjoying a book, thy will take their time to read it and become deep in reflection of their own self. They can connect the ideas from a book to their own lives, and even establish some opinions of their own on what they are reading, which improves our culture as a society. By encouraging other people to read, and young people to read earlier, they can have a finer chance to acquire the skill of spiritual reading. In today s society, many young people have become more engaged in technology, excluding out the other ways to explore the world. • 34. The Negative Effects Of Media Multitasking And Its Effects... 1. The key issue which pertains to child development in this article is the negative effects which multitasking has on kids brains and their ability to store long term memories. Many children and teens have the overly inflated idea that they can attend to multiple things at once and still pay attention to homeworkor a teacher talking in class. Multitaskingin general is not harmful but when it comes to children multitasking while they are learning, it has the potential for the biggest negative effect (Paul, 2013). In Paul s (2013) article, there is research presented by the Kaiser Family Foundation which indicated that a third of the individuals who were surveyed stated that they used other media outlets at the same time as they were studying or doing homework. Media multitasking while learning has the most potential to have negative downsides because it is impairing the storing of the long term memories necessary to recall said information later. In other studies, researchers have recorded the large increase of negative effects which took place when children multitask while studying. After the floodwaters had dried up God called Noah and his family out and commanded them to be fruitful and multiply, while the Lord said I would never again curse the ground because of mankind again. As long as the earth endures, seed time and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, and day and night will not cease (Genesis 8:22). • 36. Suspense In The Liars The text We Were Liars written by E. Lockhart follows the summers of a group of teenagers, collectively called The Liars. The narrator of the story, Cadence Sinclair, suffers from an accident on their island, and loses most of her memory. Throughout the chapters, she pieces together the timeline and finds out what truly happened the summer of her accident. The story focuses around the theme of choices and power, and the author pushes the idea that all actions have consequences. An interesting and important episode in the book was when Cadence discovers that her accident involved her killing her friends. The Liars decided to set fire to one of the family houses on the island, attempting to get rid of the family feud over who had power over it. As Cadence was on the ground floor, the fire grew upwards, and her 3 friends died as the house burnt, and she was the only one able to escape. To me, this is one of the most interesting scenes in the book, as even after the accident, Cadence was having conversations and physical contact with them, though in the end, you find out that they were merely hallucinations brought on from her head injury, or even ghosts. I liked how the author did this, as she showed only minor hints throughout the book that they weren t alive, and it left you guessing until the end of the book. The way the author creates a feeling of suspense throughout the novel because of this left me wanting to keep reading. Cadence remembers the fire at first, but not her ... This has caused Canada s automotive industry to have a noticeable rise, allowing the economy to increase positively. Exports of goods from Canada have also grown significantly. • 44. The Safest Sprint Starting Position For American Football... In What is the Safest Sprint Starting Position for American Football Players? a research article from Journal of Sports Science and Medicine, authors Bruno Bonnechere, Benoit Beyer, Marcel Rooze, and Jan Serge Van Sint, argue that out of the three sprint start positions in football (2 , 3 , and 4 point), the 2 point stance is the least dangerous. To prove this, a study was conducted on these positions and compared each to the safety levels in relation to American football. The results justify that the 2 point stance is safer than the 3 point or 4 point positions. Bonnechere et al. supports their claims by conducting a biomechanical analysis on twenty five males, all young and fit, and recording measurements in different areas (Bonnechere et al., 2014). However, the study exemplified field of view (FOV) and kinetic energy, and their relation to sprint starting positions and safety. Field of view is [a] ratio between the height of the head and Verticality [,] (Bonnechere et al., 2014). An increase in FOV will lower the injury risk, because players are more alert of their environment. Ergo, they can avoid injury. According to the averages of each stance and the categories, initial position and motion, [t]he FOV is increased when adopting a 2 point starting position because the trunk is more vertical, (Bonnechere et al., 2014). Simply, when the angle between the body s trunk and head is approximately straight, the FOV is high. Besides field of view, the study analyzed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
