1. Question 7: Looking Back at
your preliminary task, what do
you feel you have learnt in the
progression from it to the full
product?
2. F R O N T C O V E R
o Bad quality photo. Taken with my phone.
o Didn’t use photo shop on the image only used
phone editing tools. Not good quality.
o No eye contact with any of the three models.
o To many different fonts. Makes the page look
confused. Draws attention away from the image.
o There are not many Coverlines/Kickers only lots of
headings.
3. o I have learnt how to conduct successful
research in order to understand the
conventions.
o I also learnt how to use Photoshop to edit
my photos to give them a more
professional look.
o In one lesson I learnt how to use a
professional camera and light box to make
my photos appear more flawless an of a
better quality than using a phone.
o I learnt the importance of choosing the
right font for your magazine to make the
writing stand out but also not draw to
much attention away from the rest of the
cover.
o I used the picture of my models body
facing directly out of the magazine to
create a small connection with the reader
but I didn’t want the model looking out as
well because I wanted to give the picture
some mystery.
4. C O N T E N T S P A G E
o Most of the images are of art work and all a quite busy. There’s
no diversity and they steel focus from the list of articles featured
in this magazine.
o No natural eye flow because the editorial pillars aren’t aligned.
o No page numbers to tell us where in the magazine each article is.
o To confusing with the different fonts.
5. o I have gained a lot of knowledge of content page
conventions.
o I learnt that have a plain background is conventional
and gives the TOC a more professional look.
o I also learnt the importance of varying photo sizes
angles and shots.
o I used four different images in my TOC. The largest
image was a preview for the Double Page Spread. I
also have two medium sized images, one is an
advertisement and the other is also a preview to an
article.
o Aligned Editorial pillars, help natural eyeflow.
o Images correlate to the articles through the Page
Numbers.
o Leading text enables readers to know about the
articles in more depth.
o I used a different range of shots for the images to
make it more dynamic
During course of making this product I have learnt a lot about the media conventions and
how difficult it is to create something new / fresh that still fits to the conventions so it is
more likely to be a successful product.
