Amy Walker PROGRESS UPDATE PLAN FOR NEXT MONTH / WEEK(Including Possible
Contingency Plans If Problems Anticipated)
September 2012

During September in my Media classes, we got given introductions
to the second academic year. We looked over some of the previous
years’ work and looked at previous blogs. We also looked at
previous students final pieces from all three areas, music videos,
newspaper and short film. All of which guided me towards the
decision to produce a newspaper as my final piece. During the
upcoming weeks, I produced my first piece of ancillary research
where I evaluated and researched billboard posters.
My plans for October are to produce my ancillary one
task which is to create a billboard poster and finish off
my initial research tasks.
October 2012

Pre-Production
During October, I began to construct the planning process of my
newspaper. This was relatively easy as I had to look into things
such as possible names for my newspaper, and the relative stories
that I could be input in to my newspaper. I also finished off my
initial research tasks in to billboard posters and newspapers front
covers.
Next month, I will continue to plan my newspaper and
produce my layout plans for the newspaper.
November 2012

Pre-Production
During November, I was planning on constructing my ancillary task
2 which was to create a radio advert for my newspaper. However, I
felt that this wasn’t essential at this moment in time. I felt that
once I had gained a proper understanding of what kinds of stories
my newspaper was going to entail, then I could progress further
into this. In addition to this, I did come up with my final newspaper
name, The Manchester Independent, which I felt was appropriate
for the newspaper I had in mind.
In December, I’m aiming to continue the planning and
preparation for my main product, and maybe consider
constructing my ancillary 2 project.

Pre-Production
Throughout the month of December, I continued to plan my main
product carefully and thoroughly. I developed an ideas generation
using Mind Genius, I piece of software that enables you to produce
a mind map that fits your own personal needs and requirements. It
helped me see that likely possibilities that are available for me
During January, I’m hoping to complete all of my
planning and construction in the following weeks. I feel
this will enable me to be more prepared and organised
when it eventually comes to creating and developing my
main products.Look at radio conventions.

(Detailed Weekly Summary)
This week I looked thoroughly at radio conventions and gained a
full understanding of what they are. I produced an essay on 3 radio
adverts which I then posted on my blog. I didn’t manage to
complete my construction and planning this week, I will do this
next week.
Continue with my construction and planning of my
newspaper and possible begin my newspaper layout
plans.

This week I began my main piece construction by creating my
initial layout plans for my newspaper. By doing this, it allows me to
follow similar layouts to other newspapers that I have been
inspired by, as well as fell more organised with the current work
load that I am currently receiving. During this week, I also began
writing my newspaper articles which I feel would appeal to my
target audience and the newspaper in which I have been planning
on developing.
Construct my newspapers masthead and logo which can
then be incorporated into my newspapers front and
inside pages.

This week, as mentioned, I constructed my newspapers masthead
design which I feel works well with the newspapers combination of
broadsheet and tabloid conventions. I also continued to work on
my newspaper articles that apply to the conventions of a local
newspaper.
Create a questionnaire for my market research task and
ask 10 people to complete it in order to gain an idea of
what fits well with the members of the public.

This week I created and completed a questionnaire in order to
complete my market research task. I then had to produce a report
about my findings. In addition to this, I produced a detailed mind
map on what ideas for my newspaper. I applied my findings from
my market research and incorporated them in to my mind map.
Prepare my market research and organise the findings
in Microsoft excel where I will create a series of charts
to present my findings.

This week, as mentioned I prepared and organised my market
research findings in Microsoft Excel. Here, I created a series of
charts which presented my findings in a suitable order and fashion.
I then wrote up my findings into a clear structure underneath each
pie chart in Microsoft word.
Continue working with my construction and production
of my newspaper and aim to complete a first draft in the
next couple of weeks.

which took a big chunk out of all of the things for my final draft.

This week, I set out to capture images for my newspapers articles. I
took images that were in my local area as the stories were written
as part of a local newspaper. I wasn’t able to take some as my
brother wasn’t available as he is in some of my images for my
articles.
Apply the images that I captured to my newspaper draft
and capture more when my brother is available

This week I used the images that I have taken and applied them to
my newspaper and edited them to my own personal preferences.

This week I produced a simple, yet formal radio advert script as
part of my ancillary task number two. I also continued to work
towards the completion of a first draft of my final product.

I uploaded a first draft of my newspaper to my blog, I then
evaluated what could be changed and improved and applied these
changes immediately and began working towards my final draft.
Continue to work towards a final draft of my newspaper
and alter the layout of the main article on the front page
as I felt that it needs some form of rearranging. Record
my ancillary task number 2.

I began planning my evaluation and looked at what I could put in
to it in terms of conventions and theories that can be applied to
my final product. I also used my ancillary task number 2 and edited
it using software called reaper where I added a soundtrack and
sound effects to my radio advert.
I will construct a first draft of my evaluation and
continue to work on my final draft. Upload my radio
advert to my blog.

This week, I constructed my evaluation and uploaded it to my blog.
I handed it to Paul and received positive feedback. I then worked
on my final draft of my newspaper, which I hope to complete next
week. I also uploaded my newspaper radio advert and used the
embed code through soundcloud.
Complete my newspapers final draft and alter the layout
of my front cover. Use my Microsoft document of my
evaluation and use things such as prezi and Microsoft
powerpoint.

I worked towards completing a final draft of my newspaper. I felt
that there was a lot of dead space around the main article, in order
to fill this, I had to divert from my initial layout plans by adding a
further two articles to my front page, making there a total of 3 on
the front page and a total of 4 on the inside page, all applying to
local news and local areas in Manchester. In terms of my
evaluation, I used a number of different kinds of media to produce
Capture 4 final images for my newspaper articles, and
then my final product will be complete. Complete my
evaluation.

In the final week of my coursework, I captured the final 4 images
for my newspaper and uploaded them onto it and edited them to
fit my own preferences. I also completed the different ways of
presenting my evaluation and uploaded them onto youtube and
my blog.
