There is an explosive growth in wearable computing devices over the past couple of years mostly
due to technological advances in smart devices. Although most of these are self–care monitoring
devices the need for assisted living where a patient can be monitored continuously using these
devices are emerging fast. In a typical tracking system, various vital biological signals, fall risks and
changes in predetermined health conditions are collected via sensors and shared with medical
professionals for intervention if necessary. Most popular applications of self–care monitoring
include daily activity monitoring, emergency and fall detection, and rehabilitation. Despite these
useful applications, the paradigms such as autonomy, context awareness, and spontaneous
interactions are not well integrated into these existing systems yet.
Existing wearable health monitoring devices can be enhanced by adding adaptive biofeedback and
control capability. This will transform the current wearable health monitoring devices from a passive

Wearable computing is a technology device that can be worn on the human body and often includes
devices that can collect information and may even have motion detectors. Wi–Fi or Bluetooth
tethering is used to connect the device with an internet connection. Evolving examples of wearable
technology include smart watches, clothing and jewellery, sports watches, fitness trackers, head–
mounted displays and devices that can be implanted in the body.
1.2 Augmented Reality
Augmented Reality (AR) is technology that allows virtual objects to be layered on to the actual
environment in real time. Together, this creates a space called mixed reality. The layers allow
detailed information about the world to be visually present whilst wearing the device. AR browsers
can enhance camera display with information that is relevant to the place you are at. If you point the
device to a building, it can display the details of the building on the building.
