The Space Is Empty
The space is empty, only a shadowy figure can be seen. Their bright silver eyes pierce into my soul.
A mischievous smile is drawn upon its face, sending chills down my spine. Their long curvy horns
are attached to each side of its dark smoky face. Their long tail is divided into three wispy strands. It
approaches slowly, as if waiting for an opportunity to strike. I try to escape, but my legs are under a
wave of fear. The figure is closing its distance, raising its arm out towards me. I prepare for the
worst, but no attack came in contact. Instead, it held out its shadowy hand.
"Do you wish to find the truth?"
Truth...? "Who are you...? Why am I–"
"I will only answer if you agree."
I hesitate to answer. I can't trust this creature as well as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The room is shaped in a large circle, containing stacks of broken canvases and papers drenched in
dark liquid. Small waterfalls of black and white flow into small pools. The remaining waterfalls are
empty, only small drops fill the basins. To the side of it are an array of ruined art utensils, with
gallons of black water overflowing its container. Long marks are carved into the doors in the back of
the room. It was every artists' worst nightmare.
"Now where was it...?" It searches through the piles of canvases and papers, tossing each one to the
side.
While it searches for whatever it's looking for, I explore the rest of the room in hopes remembering
how I ended up in this place. More importantly a way out. I open some of the drawers to discover
more broken utensils and crumbled pieces of paper. I open some of the crumbled papers in hope for
a note or journal entry, only find sketches of people. How can someone waste all these materials...? I
close the drawers, feeling sorry about the misused materials. Moving on from the drawers, I open
the nearby doors. Art books, papers, pencils, markers, everything is stacked up on the dusty shelfs in
an organized way. How much supplies does an artist need...? I sigh in defeat, leaning against the
wall. Not a single hint of a door with a neon sign saying EXIT.
"Aha! I finally found you!"
The dark figure holds up a large canvas in victory. It then carries it to the center, and with a wave of
its hand, a metal easel

User Interfaces ( Ui 's )
User interfaces (UI's) are a core feature in just about every modern software application. Games are
no exception to this rule. The vast majority of games utilize some form of UI to display information
such as health, skills, maps, ammo for a weapon, and more. Unity 3D offers a variety of UI elements
that you can use in your game. In this post, I'll provide instructions on how to create a simple Pause
menu in Unity. The Pause Menu will display text that says "Paused" and it will have three buttons;
Resume, Retry and Quit. It will also display the game time since the scene loaded. By the end of the
instruction, you should have something that looks sort of like this:
How to Create a Simple Pause Menu in Unity
To start off with, open up Unity and create an empty project. It doesn't matter if it's 2D or 3D. Once
the project is created, save your current scene and call it whatever you want. I am calling my scene
"Test". Now, let's make the UI.
The Canvas is required for all UI Elements in Unity. The canvas is, essentially, what you place your
UI elements on. Any UI Elements you create will have to be children of a canvas. When you create
the Canvas, you'll also notice an item called an "EventSystem" will be created in your hierarchy.
This object is used for determining things such as mouse input, which is crucial for UI elements
such as buttons.
The render modes for canvases are discussed in more detail here. For this tutorial, we will just use

Abstraction Of The United States Through The Twentieth...
Abstraction in the United States Through the Twentieth Century Abstraction is the creation of art
without representation of objects, in which the artist has total freedom of the art that they are
creating. I will be using three paintings from three different time periods in order to show the
development and lasting effects of abstraction in the twentieth century. The first work that I will be
looking at is Foghorns by Arthur Dove. I will use this piece to show the beginning of abstraction,
and how ideas of abstraction were present before the movement began. The second painting that I
will be looking at is Jackson Pollock's Lucifer. I will be using this painting as an example of the
height of abstraction in the 20th century and will be discussing Pollock's influence on abstraction.
The third piece of art I will be looking at is Many Mansion by Kerry James Marshall. I will use this
work to show the remnants of Pollock's influence, and the influence of abstraction in general, on art
in the later half of the century. For the development of this paper I looked at two of the course
readings. The first reading that I used was The Tradition of the New by Harold Rosenberg. I used
this article to show how Foghorns by Arthur Dove relates to abstraction, and to show how ideas in
creation of this painting can be linked to ideas of abstract art. The second reading that I used for this
paper was The Legacy of Jackson Pollock by Alan Kaprow. I used this article to gain information

My New Body Of Work
I would say my justifications are leading and concerning on being mindful. I would describe
mindfulness, as a way of life that is peacefully perceptive, deprived of the stimulus of cravings or
viewpoints. That is how I behave in the studio. I dominate my rational brain with technical focuses
so that it stays occupied. As I am engaged with technique a fragment of myself is allowed to observe
unrestricted by my thought process. It is that openness that truly enlightens my work.
My new body of work is a continuation of the work I have initiated earlier this year. It consists of a
series of large canvases where I am painting a distorted enlarged self. I paint with oil colors on
Italian linen canvases. This paint layer gets built up in a traditional lean–to–fat technique. I used to
paint women portraits, but I gradually became more interested in flesh and less in the facial
expressions. Coming to an understanding about how the body alone is a vehicle to convey emotions
and how those moods can be exuding from a flat surface.
Throughout my artistic growth, the contemporary British artist Jenny Saville, that dedicated her
career to traditional figurative oil painting, has acted a massive part in my developing work. The
subjects of her paintings, the large canvasses and bodies exposing the flesh. The explanation of her
work, tends to be eccentric and encompasses discourses about feminism i.e.: 1 'feminist aesthetics of
disgust ', her use of uneven scratch marks, the strong and

Essay on Frank Stellar
Frank Stella
An American Artist
Frank Stella is an American painter who remains poplar after almost four decades of work. He was
born in 1936 and studied at the Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts under Patrick Morgan
and at Princeton University under William Seitz and Stephen Greene. After 1958 he lived in New
York. He came to the fore in the 1960s as one of the most inventive of the new school of Post–
Painterly Abstraction, a reaction against Abstract Expressionism. He was then exhibited widely in
New York, Los Angeles, and elsewhere. A retrospective exhibition in 1970 was held under the
auspices of the International Council of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. He began as one
of many post war minimalist painters, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His work in this respect had affinities with the primary structures of some minimal artist and with
the All–Over style of painting in which attention is evenly diffused over the whole canvas, leaving
no outstanding points of interest brought together by balance, harmony, rhythm, and so on (Osborne
521). Until his last month at Princeton, Stella had painted in a style that was derived from de
Kooning, Frankenthaler, and Kline, and he would subsequently absorb influences from Gottlieb and
Motherwell. At the end of his time at Princeton he entered on a period of rapid development in
which he produced compositions containing single or multiple box forms placed in varying contexts
of bands or stripes. These pictures make up the bridge, or transition, to the Black series in which his
profile as an independent painter was established. Many of these transitional paintings reflect
Stella's excitement with the ambiance of New York City. In Coney Island, for instance, a blue
rectangle floats on a field of alternating red and yellow horizontal bands. In Astoria it is possible to
see a stage beyond Coney Island, for in this work the geometrical forms have been overpainted to
produce a design made up entirely of horizontal bands (Rubin 10). In his early work, Stella was a

Analysis of Thomas Birch's painting An American Ship in Distress
Examining the formal qualities of Thomas Birch's painting An American Ship in Distress was very
interesting. This paper will analyze and illustrate what I saw in this particular piece of artwork. The
paper will also discuss the art elements such as line, shape, color, texture, scale, and composition of
the artwork.
I chose the art piece entitled An American Ship in Distress because it looks pretty amazing. Another
reason I chose to analyze this piece as opposed to the others is because it was the piece I liked the
most, therefore making me analyze it more closely and discover other aspects of the work would
make me appreciate it more. I also chose this because I enjoy ... Show more content on

I think the artist is able to communicate the bad condition of the ship and its crew is in. The mood of
the work is scary and gloomy. The design and intensity of the waves, the changing weather, and the
ships in the ocean seem to make the scene come alive. It really conveys a since of naturalism in the
painting the way it depicts the environment around the ship.
The texture of the canvas works very well with the subject matter portrayed in the painting. The
strong ocean current and the cloudy mountain side are complimented by the canvas. It makes the
waves seem like they're moving against the ship. The ship is nicely detailed as well as the people in
the painting. The brushstrokes are very clean and precise on the waves in the foreground. The
brushstrokes do create a sense of movement in the painting. The surface of the artwork looks rough
where the ocean is painted and where the clouds are painted it appears smooth and soft. This
artwork is linear rather than painterly.
The distressed ship is the biggest in the painting, making it the center of the piece. The artist drew
the two other ships small to make them seem distant and another small boat close to the damaged
ship. The scale of the painting itself is pretty big; it's 36 inches long and 53 inches wide.
The lines on the ocean made by the waves seem to point to the ships direction as if guiding your
eyes to where you're supposed to be looking at. Also the lines on the mountains seem to be pointing

Business Model Canvas : A Coherent Framework
The Business Model Canvas is a coherent framework that comprises holistic perspectives, elements,
relationships and logical expression of a specific entrepreneur in generating, delivering and
capturing values (Osterwalder, Pigneur & Tucci 2005). Through this business model, business can
assess and bring innovation to their business concept.
According to Osterwalder (2004), the Canvas contains nine relevance building blocks include value
proposition, customer segments, channels, customer relationships, revenue streams, key resources,
key partners, key activities and cost structure from the creation of the product and service. Those
nine categories can be classified into four main groups consist of product (value propositions),
customer interface (customer segments, channels, and customer relationships), infrastructure
management (key resources, key activities, and key partnership), and financial aspects (cost
structure and revenue streams).
The Value Propositions building block refers to the overall view of company's products and services
that create value to satisfy the demand for a specific customer segments (Osterwalder, Pigneur &
Ferreira 2011). Osterwalder indicated that these offering needs to be unique and distinguished from
competitors (Osterwalder, Pigneur & Ferreira 2011). The value may be divided into the quantitative
category that emphasis on the price and productivity, and qualitative category, which highlights
product's experience and its usage (Martin 2015).

Dubosson–Torbay et al. (2002) identify the principal dimensions––user's role, interaction pattern,
nature of the offering, pricing system, level of customization, and economic control––for classifying
e–business models. Rappa (2001) describes companies by their value proposition and ways of
generating revenue. His classification has nine categories of e–business models: brokerage model,
advertising model, infomediary model, merchant model, manufacturer model, affiliate model,
community model, subscription model and utility model. E–business models are comprised of a set
of components so we need to choose the appropriate application framework to define the
relationship between them. The growth of e–business has raised interest in transforming traditional
business models to exploit opportunities through innovation (Pateli and Giaglis, 2003). The internet
has changed the idea of a business model and this has practical implications for companies.
Consequently, companies need to redefine customer value propositions, and their business model.
Enhancing customer experience helps to reshape customer value propositions (Berman and Bell,
2011). Creating new digital capabilities helps to refine the operating model by leveraging
information to manage organizations, and integrating and optimizing digital and physical
components (Berman and Bell, 2011). Effective use of e–business models depends on the economic

Analysis Of Along The Coast By Alfred Thompson Bricher
The artwork titled Along the Coast by Alfred Thompson Bricher was painted in the year 1880. This
particular work is composed of oil on canvas though the dimension were not specified at the
Museum of Fine Arts in Saint Petersburg, Florida. The overall focus of this painting is landscape in
along a northeastern seacoast in the United States. To begin, the formal element of line can be seen
throughout this artwork and helps the audience understand the dimensions and viewpoint the
audience Bricher grants his audience. The first noticeable line is defined by the shoreline giving the
painting depth and expressing distance. There is also a line along the bottom of the seaside cliff that
allows the audience to further understand that this painting is of a three–dimensional landscape.
Moreover, where the blue sky meets the grey and black of the cliff provides an outline for the
physical landscape the artist wished to capture and defines the space it occupies. Also, the line
outlining where the water is located provides an outline for the entirety of the shore. Furthermore,
another formal element of art that appears in this work is space. Bricher was able to transform his
two–dimensional depiction into a window to a three–dimensional space by simply manipulating his
audience's point of view. In the foreground, the artist rendered the images of the beached seaweed,
rock formation in the water, and rowboat with comparably great detail. As the viewer's eye travels

What is a Lean Canvas? Lean Canvas was created by Ash Maurya in the Lean Startup spirit (a fast,
concise and effective startup). It is an adaptation of Alexander Osterwalder's Business Model
Canvas with some sections replaced or removed. Lean Canvas is a helpful tool for the quick
sketching of an actionable, entrepreneur–focused business plan. It is focused on problems, solutions,
key metrics and competitive advantages. Lean Canvas has no specific medium of implementation
and you can use it first and then shift to the Business Model Canvas or vice versa.
Who can use a Lean Canvas?
If you are a consultant, customer, advisor, or investor – Lean Canvas is not for you. It has been
designed specifically for entrepreneurs, who wish to work with the aforementioned people.

The Genesis Of The Business Model Canvas
The genesis of the Business Model Canvas (BMC) consists of nine building blocks that describe a
business model. They are: Customer Segments, Value Propositions, Customer Relationships,
Channels, Revenue Streams, Key Partners, Key Activities, Key Resources and Cost Structure.
(Osterwalder, A., Pigneur, Y, 2010) One of the unique features of the approach of the Business
Model Canvas is that this tool allows for easy, visual representation for decision makers to think
about. The tool provides a dissection of the major concerns impacting the business and also
represents the direction the organization is taking through its business model. As author Dan Roam
states, "visual thinking to solve complex problems" is what the BMC is all about. The Business
Model Generation does have it strengths and weaknesses. Perhaps the main asset of the BMC is the
visual illustration. One main drawback is the limited aim of an organization; that is, it targets profit
generation and for non–profit purposes of an organization. The benefits will be touched on below,
but the Osterwalder/Pigneu business model leaves out one key ingredient. Omitting the basic fact
that competition is not mentioned in this theory seems to be a glaring omission. Advancement
springs from competition and so does better customer service. In our reading, the business model
canvas is a great tool that fosters "understanding, discussions, creativity and analysis." The nine
basic blocks demonstrate

Psychopathology In Canvas
This brief opinion paper attempts to answer the question, "Where is Psychopathology
Located?" –– Is it in individuals, in relationships, in families, or in broader social structures? It will
also examine the shortcomings of my position. Some of the points mentioned will be a reflection on
the movie, Canvas (2006), which dramatically presents the story of a mother, a father, and their son,
in the midst of the psychopathological illness, schizophrenia. In my opinion, the movie convincingly
portrays some of the dynamics of mental illness and its effects on the character's family structure. In
the movie the mother, Mary, is the one affected by the illness. She is hospitalized due to her
psychotic behavior. In her absence the father, John, tries to cope ... Show more content on

He begins to act out by skipping school and, like his father, reflects on happier times shared with his
mother on warm, sandy beaches.
For the three of them, their saving grace is the metaphor of the "canvas," as the mother paints on
canvas to relieve her psychotic symptoms, the father wishes to fill the canvas sail with the wind of
change, and the son sews patches on the ripped and tattered sail, just as their lives are in so much
need of healing. Psychopathology can be defined as the scientific study and classification of mental
disorders, including their biological, psychological and social causes. The classification and
treatment of mental disorders varies across several professional physical and mental health
disciplines including doctors, psychiatrists, chiropractors, psychologists, nurses, counselors, social
workers and ministers. Mental disorders manifest themselves in many ways depending on the
severity of one's illness, from suicidal tendencies, hallucinations, and hearing voices on the extreme
end, to minor discomfort and anxiety with daily living on the other end.

Union University Art Gallery Analysis
Union University Art Gallery plays host to several different artists' galleries throughout the year, for
free and open to the public. Currently on display is "Hodgepodge", a collection of about ten
canvases by Brian Bundren. While Bundren has been painting and displaying his artwork for quite
some time (his first gallery was in the mid–1990s!), "Hodgepodge" contains paintings only from
2013–2016. All of the artwork shows great precision and attention to detail. The colors are vibrant
and rich. That is not to say the colors were bright or cheerful (only one painting was particularly
"bright"), but the colors were all pure and distinct. Most of the paintings, in my opinion, would fit
under the umbrella of surrealism. Walking into the gallery immediately starts to produce feelings of
unease and perhaps feelings of being threatened. The individual objects in the paintings are very
realistic but mashed together in unnatural ways. Only one painting, "J.V.'s Thunderbird", felt "calm";
it did not cause me to personally feel discomfort, even though it was not peaceful. It was a large
canvas displaying an underwater scene in bright blue. A Thunderbird was half–visible along the
bottom edge of the canvas. A deep sea diver was present, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Detroit Is Not A Blank Canvas
Some people believe that Detroit is comparable to a blank canvas. A place where an opportunity is
lurking right around the corner. They imagine it as a deserted place, in which a businessman can
create anything they dream of. However, the harsh reality is, Detroit is not a blank canvas. It has
been splattered with an era of prominence, scribbled on with the invention of the automobile, and
engraved with a history of racism and corruption. Although much of Detroit's glory has been
stripped away, there are still people who exist in the city's remnants. Actual people, with actual
families, actual homes, and actual lives. When outsiders talk about the city's revival, they are often
forgetting about these people, or the actual citizens of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are many factors to point blame at when considering Detroit's failure. A city that was
dependent on manufacturing cars was bound to flounder when the factories moved elsewhere.
Tensions among races became prevalent throughout the city, ending with whites moving into the
suburbs. Corruption consumed the city's government, and the leaders led the city into the ground.
The aftermath of these actions have been thrown upon the people who stayed in the city of Detroit.
These people are living in unsafe conditions due to the fact crime rates are so high, and the police
presence is so scarce. The children are apart of a failing education system; the foundation of the
buildings aren't up to public health code, they have limited resources, and a lack of teachers willing
to work. When talking about the future of Detroit, where does one see the future for these people?
Why is there a new hockey arena being built, while the deteriorating schools are being left to fall
apart? Large sums of money are being poured into the city's assets, but the investors are forgetting
the most important asset of Detroit, it's people.
When talking about the endless opportunities Detroit has to offer, one common plan is the idea of
Detroit becoming a tourist city. Investors view downtown as a diverse entertainment district, with an
array of theatres, museums, casinos

in all probability influenced other painters who were part of the Romantic era of the Nineteenth
Century. What is distinctive regarding this specific painting is that it merges art with recreation. The
theme is deep as a result of the many things that are happening within the background and the
foreground. As an example, there are bodies with garments ripped of from the battle and a fallen
horse at the front center of the painting; however, the background also contains many winged
demons and murderers who ride in from some distant place.
As for the forms within the painting, they are realistic, and never flat. The horses are spherical and
appear to be very strong; the lion 's claws are immense and tear blood from the flesh of the person
the lion attacks. The forms are well accomplished and reinforce the drama of the scene, which the
artist meant to depict. All of the shapes are meant to be full to provide weight and seriousness to the
piece. None of the forms are lightweight or ethereal, even the clouds are giant and full. Most of the
figures have significant shadowing and strips of highlight to deepen the distinction between the dark
and lightweight colors.
With reference to the lines within the painting, every figure within the painting, including all of the
ghosts that float in from heaven, are well carved. The lines are harsh

The Theory Of The Business Canvas Model
Executive Summary
According to Arnold (1992) brand strategy is the process where the products are positioned in the
consumers mind to produce a perception of advantage. This strategy is the execution of the
organization vision, mission and objectives. The essence of brand should be reflected in everything
the company especially that impacts the mind of consumers.
This paper is a proposal for Kovert's brand image as fashion brand first and wearable tech second as

Speed Painting Essay

SPEED PAINTING
What is speed painting?
Speed painting is art that is carried out in a set period of time, where the clock determines how much
time an artist has. This can be anything from minutes to a couple of hours. After the time is up, an
artist can no longer make any additional changes to the work. Speed painting can be helpful for
beginner artists to learn painting techniques, and for experienced artists to practice their skills
without over–thinking their work.
Speed painting is often carried out by digital artists, who learn to work quickly and efficiently, but
do not require the 'drying time' that is required by wet painters. Artists in the film industry, who
create storyboards and often rely on creating multiple concepts rather than a single polished idea,
often use speed drawing to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are often forgotten by artists, but are fun to use, easy to create, and are a great option to think
of when designing or speed drawing. On days when your work takes on an abstract element, you can
play with custom shapes, using a brush for layering, copying, repeating and transforming them into
art.
Focus on colour and texture
Experiment by filling a canvas with colour, and adding texture. Instead of trying to paint something
specific, use a large brush to simply apply colour to the canvas. This playful and experimental
technique will help you to see what emerges, without going into a detailed painting. Keeping
brushes large means you won't be able to go into too much detail. You can have fun with texture or
transparency, allowing a new vision to emerge.

Pablo Picasso Oil On Canvas Analysis
Pablo Picasso, Guernica, 1937, Oil on Canvas is an abstract painting showing the effects of military
and government and their people. The painting is non–realistic but speaks to a theme of politics and
social order. Francisco de Goya, Executions on the Third of May, 1808, 1814–15 oil on canvas is a
stylized depiction of life during the invasion of Spain by Napoleon. Like the Picasso, this piece also
speaks to politics and social order. The line is the first noticeable difference in the two pieces.
Picasso uses very straight lines and geometric shapes, giving a feeling of end or absolution, while
Goya has a much more flowing line which lends to motion, and reality. Goya uses bright vibrant
color to draw the viewers eye the man with guns being panted at him and then to the red blood
spread around below him, while Picasso uses a gray scale and value allowing the mind to either fill
in the color, or, as it does for me, really combine it all like an explosion, and parts and pieces of
each. The line and color in Goya lends to a motion, a life, an intensity about the situation, where the
lack of color, and fixed line and geometric shape all seem stale and still. Picasso uses an implied
triangle that is centered in his piece giving me a feeling of the ... Show more content on

Frank Stella's Inspiration Versus "What You See Is What You See"
Frank Stella is an Abstract Expressionist and Minimalist artist who is known for several elements of
his painting style such as his shaped canvases and his famous saying "what you see is what you
see." In the mid–1960's, Stella created a series of paintings, the "Protractor Series," which are
prominent for their semi–circle shaped canvases that resemble a protractor. Despite Stella's popular
motto, "what you see is what you see," Stella did, in fact, have an inspiration for his famous
masterpiece.
Frank Stella created beautiful, simple paintings on canvas often using polymer paint. Very
commonly, Stella's paintings were depicted on shaped canvases like his Protractor Series were
painted on semi–circle shaped canvases. Stella had some more works, Irregular Polygons, that were
composed on shaped canvases as well, like the ones listed below.
Chocorua IV, Frank Stella Wolfeboro IV, Frank Stella
Although Frank Stella is known for his abstract attitude and motto "what you see is what you see," it
can be found that Stella did have an inspiration for his Protractor Series other than the mathematical
tool. When looking at these paintings, an element that can easily catch the eye is the variety of
different hues he chose and the intertwining "pathways" of color. Prior to creating this artwork,
Frank Stella traveled to the Middle

The Marketing Model Canvas As An Analytical Framework
Critique
Our group has used the Business Model Canvas as an analytical framework to evaluate The Fun
Center and generate recommendations to further improve the delivery of its value proposition. The
Fun Center aims to provide children with an exciting and safe place to have fun by providing an
array of arcade games, food and beverages, and event hosting. We made no changes to the general
premise of the Business Plan, but rather we fine–tuned the aspects we felt lacked clarity. The gaps
that we originally identified in the first version of the Business Plan were minor and posed little
threat to the company's overall success. However, we felt that The Fun Center's lack of
distinctiveness would limit the company in terms of potential growth. ... Show more content on

Recommendation 1: Market to Children and Parents
Our analysis of the Business Model Canvas has revealed a minor hole in the channels section. We
feel as though the company's business plan failed to account for a very significant customer
segment: kids. Currently, marketing is directed towards arcade enthusiasts and middle to upper class
adults. The hope is that parents will be intrigued by the company's value and bring their children to
the arcade. However, considering that the value proposition seeks to serve children ages 5–12 as a
target customer segment, the Business Model Canvas would suggest that a channel should exist to
directly connect The Fun Center's value to children. In addition to advertising to adults with
traditional methods, we recommend that The Fun Center also market directly to children in order to
improve reputation and garner more interest. For example, advertising The Fun Center on children's
shows and radio stations will communicate to children in ways that are already familiar and
comfortable to them. According to small business advice from Hearst newspapers, it would cost 200
to 1,500 dollar to commercially advertise The Fun Center on a local station, a small investment for a
large long term benefit (Wagner, 2015). In in the same way they react to new toys and cereal, they

Comparison And Contrast Of Art
Comparison and Contrast of Art
Art is able to transport its viewer through time and connect us as a community. Audiences are able
to infer the content and context of the artwork. Art displayed through different mediums and about
different topics can share many similarities and draw connections between one another. Exodus,
created by Shelby Lechman (2015), uses oil paint on canvas to depict a young boy and father in a
train car, leaving their home in Hungary during the time of the Hungarian Revolution (fig.1). Back
into the Earth: Creation and the Interpretation of Meaning, created by Tamara Himmelspach (2015)

traditions of the Ojibwa culture ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, further connection in context and content can be developed when analyzing the
connection of the works roots and art in history. Exodus exhibits the reality of human suffering as a
result of war and oppression during the Hungarian Revolution. The historical relevance of this work
dives into a deeper significance than its basic face value. The oppression and struggle for power
signified in Exodus also translates into Figure 2. Both cultures, in their own time have faced their
traditions and way of life being threatened. As Hungarian citizens are forced to leave their country,
Ojibwa members were constantly threatened by European immigrants. The human experience is key
in understanding and studying art. Besides the main styles and usage in appearance, the connection
to a point in time and the influence of that time allows the audience to connect with the artist and the
characteristics of the artwork. Audiences are able to connect past themes to present day issues, such
as the difficulties facing many Syrian refugees and the numerous Native American women who have
gone missing. The importance of home and culture is evident in both works despite their different
purposes and artistic modes. Limits are explored and barriers of past, present are future are removed
when audiences are able to interpret the work from any point in time and understand the significance
of its visual and non–visual means.

The Space Is Empty

  • 1. The Space Is Empty The space is empty, only a shadowy figure can be seen. Their bright silver eyes pierce into my soul. A mischievous smile is drawn upon its face, sending chills down my spine. Their long curvy horns are attached to each side of its dark smoky face. Their long tail is divided into three wispy strands. It approaches slowly, as if waiting for an opportunity to strike. I try to escape, but my legs are under a wave of fear. The figure is closing its distance, raising its arm out towards me. I prepare for the worst, but no attack came in contact. Instead, it held out its shadowy hand. "Do you wish to find the truth?" Truth...? "Who are you...? Why am I–" "I will only answer if you agree." I hesitate to answer. I can't trust this creature as well as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The room is shaped in a large circle, containing stacks of broken canvases and papers drenched in dark liquid. Small waterfalls of black and white flow into small pools. The remaining waterfalls are empty, only small drops fill the basins. To the side of it are an array of ruined art utensils, with gallons of black water overflowing its container. Long marks are carved into the doors in the back of the room. It was every artists' worst nightmare. "Now where was it...?" It searches through the piles of canvases and papers, tossing each one to the side. While it searches for whatever it's looking for, I explore the rest of the room in hopes remembering how I ended up in this place. More importantly a way out. I open some of the drawers to discover more broken utensils and crumbled pieces of paper. I open some of the crumbled papers in hope for a note or journal entry, only find sketches of people. How can someone waste all these materials...? I close the drawers, feeling sorry about the misused materials. Moving on from the drawers, I open the nearby doors. Art books, papers, pencils, markers, everything is stacked up on the dusty shelfs in an organized way. How much supplies does an artist need...? I sigh in defeat, leaning against the wall. Not a single hint of a door with a neon sign saying EXIT. "Aha! I finally found you!" The dark figure holds up a large canvas in victory. It then carries it to the center, and with a wave of its hand, a metal easel ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. User Interfaces ( Ui 's ) User interfaces (UI's) are a core feature in just about every modern software application. Games are no exception to this rule. The vast majority of games utilize some form of UI to display information such as health, skills, maps, ammo for a weapon, and more. Unity 3D offers a variety of UI elements that you can use in your game. In this post, I'll provide instructions on how to create a simple Pause menu in Unity. The Pause Menu will display text that says "Paused" and it will have three buttons; Resume, Retry and Quit. It will also display the game time since the scene loaded. By the end of the instruction, you should have something that looks sort of like this: How to Create a Simple Pause Menu in Unity To start off with, open up Unity and create an empty project. It doesn't matter if it's 2D or 3D. Once the project is created, save your current scene and call it whatever you want. I am calling my scene "Test". Now, let's make the UI. The Canvas is required for all UI Elements in Unity. The canvas is, essentially, what you place your UI elements on. Any UI Elements you create will have to be children of a canvas. When you create the Canvas, you'll also notice an item called an "EventSystem" will be created in your hierarchy. This object is used for determining things such as mouse input, which is crucial for UI elements such as buttons. The render modes for canvases are discussed in more detail here. For this tutorial, we will just use Screen Space – Camera to keep ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Abstraction Of The United States Through The Twentieth... Abstraction in the United States Through the Twentieth Century Abstraction is the creation of art without representation of objects, in which the artist has total freedom of the art that they are creating. I will be using three paintings from three different time periods in order to show the development and lasting effects of abstraction in the twentieth century. The first work that I will be looking at is Foghorns by Arthur Dove. I will use this piece to show the beginning of abstraction, and how ideas of abstraction were present before the movement began. The second painting that I will be looking at is Jackson Pollock's Lucifer. I will be using this painting as an example of the height of abstraction in the 20th century and will be discussing Pollock's influence on abstraction. The third piece of art I will be looking at is Many Mansion by Kerry James Marshall. I will use this work to show the remnants of Pollock's influence, and the influence of abstraction in general, on art in the later half of the century. For the development of this paper I looked at two of the course readings. The first reading that I used was The Tradition of the New by Harold Rosenberg. I used this article to show how Foghorns by Arthur Dove relates to abstraction, and to show how ideas in creation of this painting can be linked to ideas of abstract art. The second reading that I used for this paper was The Legacy of Jackson Pollock by Alan Kaprow. I used this article to gain information about ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. My New Body Of Work I would say my justifications are leading and concerning on being mindful. I would describe mindfulness, as a way of life that is peacefully perceptive, deprived of the stimulus of cravings or viewpoints. That is how I behave in the studio. I dominate my rational brain with technical focuses so that it stays occupied. As I am engaged with technique a fragment of myself is allowed to observe unrestricted by my thought process. It is that openness that truly enlightens my work. My new body of work is a continuation of the work I have initiated earlier this year. It consists of a series of large canvases where I am painting a distorted enlarged self. I paint with oil colors on Italian linen canvases. This paint layer gets built up in a traditional lean–to–fat technique. I used to paint women portraits, but I gradually became more interested in flesh and less in the facial expressions. Coming to an understanding about how the body alone is a vehicle to convey emotions and how those moods can be exuding from a flat surface. Throughout my artistic growth, the contemporary British artist Jenny Saville, that dedicated her career to traditional figurative oil painting, has acted a massive part in my developing work. The subjects of her paintings, the large canvasses and bodies exposing the flesh. The explanation of her work, tends to be eccentric and encompasses discourses about feminism i.e.: 1 'feminist aesthetics of disgust ', her use of uneven scratch marks, the strong and ... • 13. Essay on Frank Stellar Frank Stella An American Artist Frank Stella is an American painter who remains poplar after almost four decades of work. He was born in 1936 and studied at the Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts under Patrick Morgan and at Princeton University under William Seitz and Stephen Greene. After 1958 he lived in New York. He came to the fore in the 1960s as one of the most inventive of the new school of Post– Painterly Abstraction, a reaction against Abstract Expressionism. He was then exhibited widely in New York, Los Angeles, and elsewhere. A retrospective exhibition in 1970 was held under the auspices of the International Council of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. He began as one of many post war minimalist painters, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His work in this respect had affinities with the primary structures of some minimal artist and with the All–Over style of painting in which attention is evenly diffused over the whole canvas, leaving no outstanding points of interest brought together by balance, harmony, rhythm, and so on (Osborne 521). Until his last month at Princeton, Stella had painted in a style that was derived from de Kooning, Frankenthaler, and Kline, and he would subsequently absorb influences from Gottlieb and Motherwell. At the end of his time at Princeton he entered on a period of rapid development in which he produced compositions containing single or multiple box forms placed in varying contexts of bands or stripes. These pictures make up the bridge, or transition, to the Black series in which his profile as an independent painter was established. Many of these transitional paintings reflect Stella's excitement with the ambiance of New York City. In Coney Island, for instance, a blue rectangle floats on a field of alternating red and yellow horizontal bands. In Astoria it is possible to see a stage beyond Coney Island, for in this work the geometrical forms have been overpainted to produce a design made up entirely of horizontal bands (Rubin 10). In his early work, Stella was a practitioner ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Analysis of Thomas Birch’s painting An American Ship in... Analysis of Thomas Birch's painting An American Ship in Distress Examining the formal qualities of Thomas Birch's painting An American Ship in Distress was very interesting. This paper will analyze and illustrate what I saw in this particular piece of artwork. The paper will also discuss the art elements such as line, shape, color, texture, scale, and composition of the artwork. I chose the art piece entitled An American Ship in Distress because it looks pretty amazing. Another reason I chose to analyze this piece as opposed to the others is because it was the piece I liked the most, therefore making me analyze it more closely and discover other aspects of the work would make me appreciate it more. I also chose this because I enjoy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I think the artist is able to communicate the bad condition of the ship and its crew is in. The mood of the work is scary and gloomy. The design and intensity of the waves, the changing weather, and the ships in the ocean seem to make the scene come alive. It really conveys a since of naturalism in the painting the way it depicts the environment around the ship. The texture of the canvas works very well with the subject matter portrayed in the painting. The strong ocean current and the cloudy mountain side are complimented by the canvas. It makes the waves seem like they're moving against the ship. The ship is nicely detailed as well as the people in the painting. The brushstrokes are very clean and precise on the waves in the foreground. The brushstrokes do create a sense of movement in the painting. The surface of the artwork looks rough where the ocean is painted and where the clouds are painted it appears smooth and soft. This artwork is linear rather than painterly. The distressed ship is the biggest in the painting, making it the center of the piece. The artist drew the two other ships small to make them seem distant and another small boat close to the damaged ship. The scale of the painting itself is pretty big; it's 36 inches long and 53 inches wide. The lines on the ocean made by the waves seem to point to the ships direction as if guiding your eyes to where you're supposed to be looking at. Also the lines on the mountains seem to be pointing to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. Business Model Canvas : A Coherent Framework The Business Model Canvas is a coherent framework that comprises holistic perspectives, elements, relationships and logical expression of a specific entrepreneur in generating, delivering and capturing values (Osterwalder, Pigneur & Tucci 2005). Through this business model, business can assess and bring innovation to their business concept. According to Osterwalder (2004), the Canvas contains nine relevance building blocks include value proposition, customer segments, channels, customer relationships, revenue streams, key resources, key partners, key activities and cost structure from the creation of the product and service. Those nine categories can be classified into four main groups consist of product (value propositions), customer interface (customer segments, channels, and customer relationships), infrastructure management (key resources, key activities, and key partnership), and financial aspects (cost structure and revenue streams). The Value Propositions building block refers to the overall view of company's products and services that create value to satisfy the demand for a specific customer segments (Osterwalder, Pigneur & Ferreira 2011). His classification has nine categories of e–business models: brokerage model, advertising model, infomediary model, merchant model, manufacturer model, affiliate model, community model, subscription model and utility model. E–business models are comprised of a set of components so we need to choose the appropriate application framework to define the relationship between them. The growth of e–business has raised interest in transforming traditional business models to exploit opportunities through innovation (Pateli and Giaglis, 2003). This particular work is composed of oil on canvas though the dimension were not specified at the Museum of Fine Arts in Saint Petersburg, Florida. The overall focus of this painting is landscape in along a northeastern seacoast in the United States. To begin, the formal element of line can be seen throughout this artwork and helps the audience understand the dimensions and viewpoint the audience Bricher grants his audience. The first noticeable line is defined by the shoreline giving the painting depth and expressing distance. There is also a line along the bottom of the seaside cliff that allows the audience to further understand that this painting is of a three–dimensional landscape. Moreover, where the blue sky meets the grey and black of the cliff provides an outline for the physical landscape the artist wished to capture and defines the space it occupies. Also, the line outlining where the water is located provides an outline for the entirety of the shore. Furthermore, another formal element of art that appears in this work is space. Bricher was able to transform his two–dimensional depiction into a window to a three–dimensional space by simply manipulating his audience's point of view. In the foreground, the artist rendered the images of the beached seaweed, rock formation in the water, and rowboat with comparably great detail. As the viewer's eye travels up the physical ... • 31. The Genesis Of The Business Model Canvas The genesis of the Business Model Canvas (BMC) consists of nine building blocks that describe a business model. They are: Customer Segments, Value Propositions, Customer Relationships, Channels, Revenue Streams, Key Partners, Key Activities, Key Resources and Cost Structure. (Osterwalder, A., Pigneur, Y, 2010) One of the unique features of the approach of the Business Model Canvas is that this tool allows for easy, visual representation for decision makers to think about. The tool provides a dissection of the major concerns impacting the business and also represents the direction the organization is taking through its business model. As author Dan Roam states, "visual thinking to solve complex problems" is what the BMC is all about. The Business Model Generation does have it strengths and weaknesses. Perhaps the main asset of the BMC is the visual illustration. One main drawback is the limited aim of an organization; that is, it targets profit generation and for non–profit purposes of an organization. The benefits will be touched on below, but the Osterwalder/Pigneu business model leaves out one key ingredient. Omitting the basic fact that competition is not mentioned in this theory seems to be a glaring omission. Advancement springs from competition and so does better customer service. In our reading, the business model canvas is a great tool that fosters "understanding, discussions, creativity and analysis." The nine basic blocks demonstrate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. Psychopathology In Canvas This brief opinion paper attempts to answer the question, "Where is Psychopathology Located?" –– Is it in individuals, in relationships, in families, or in broader social structures? It will also examine the shortcomings of my position. Some of the points mentioned will be a reflection on the movie, Canvas (2006), which dramatically presents the story of a mother, a father, and their son, in the midst of the psychopathological illness, schizophrenia. In my opinion, the movie convincingly portrays some of the dynamics of mental illness and its effects on the character's family structure. In the movie the mother, Mary, is the one affected by the illness. She is hospitalized due to her psychotic behavior. In her absence the father, John, tries to cope ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He begins to act out by skipping school and, like his father, reflects on happier times shared with his mother on warm, sandy beaches. For the three of them, their saving grace is the metaphor of the "canvas," as the mother paints on canvas to relieve her psychotic symptoms, the father wishes to fill the canvas sail with the wind of change, and the son sews patches on the ripped and tattered sail, just as their lives are in so much need of healing. Psychopathology can be defined as the scientific study and classification of mental disorders, including their biological, psychological and social causes. The classification and treatment of mental disorders varies across several professional physical and mental health disciplines including doctors, psychiatrists, chiropractors, psychologists, nurses, counselors, social workers and ministers. Mental disorders manifest themselves in many ways depending on the severity of one's illness, from suicidal tendencies, hallucinations, and hearing voices on the extreme end, to minor discomfort and anxiety with daily living on the other end. ... Currently on display is "Hodgepodge", a collection of about ten canvases by Brian Bundren. While Bundren has been painting and displaying his artwork for quite some time (his first gallery was in the mid–1990s!), "Hodgepodge" contains paintings only from 2013–2016. All of the artwork shows great precision and attention to detail. The colors are vibrant and rich. That is not to say the colors were bright or cheerful (only one painting was particularly "bright"), but the colors were all pure and distinct. Most of the paintings, in my opinion, would fit under the umbrella of surrealism. Walking into the gallery immediately starts to produce feelings of unease and perhaps feelings of being threatened. The individual objects in the paintings are very realistic but mashed together in unnatural ways. Only one painting, "J.V.'s Thunderbird", felt "calm"; it did not cause me to personally feel discomfort, even though it was not peaceful. It was a large canvas displaying an underwater scene in bright blue. A Thunderbird was half–visible along the bottom edge of the canvas. A deep sea diver was present, ... They imagine it as a deserted place, in which a businessman can create anything they dream of. However, the harsh reality is, Detroit is not a blank canvas. It has been splattered with an era of prominence, scribbled on with the invention of the automobile, and engraved with a history of racism and corruption. Although much of Detroit's glory has been stripped away, there are still people who exist in the city's remnants. Actual people, with actual families, actual homes, and actual lives. There are many factors to point blame at when considering Detroit's failure. A city that was dependent on manufacturing cars was bound to flounder when the factories moved elsewhere. Tensions among races became prevalent throughout the city, ending with whites moving into the suburbs. Corruption consumed the city's government, and the leaders led the city into the ground. The aftermath of these actions have been thrown upon the people who stayed in the city of Detroit. These people are living in unsafe conditions due to the fact crime rates are so high, and the police presence is so scarce. The children are apart of a failing education system; the foundation of the buildings aren't up to public health code, they have limited resources, and a lack of teachers willing to work. When talking about the future of Detroit, where does one see the future for these people? Why is there a new hockey arena being built, while the deteriorating schools are being left to fall apart? Large sums of money are being poured into the city's assets, but the investors are forgetting the most important asset of Detroit, it's people. In addition, the paper will also discuss the medium that the artist selected and highlight a number of the other fascinating aspects of this Benjamin West painting. Benjamin West first displayed his work of art in 1784 at the Royal Academy of Arts in London, in conjunction with three different works that he had planned to paint. The artist used oil on canvas as his final medium and the painting measures twenty three by fifty inches. It is signed within the lower right corner "B. The style that West used is described best through his choice of colors that are very warm, and thus, in all probability influenced other painters who were part of the Romantic era of the Nineteenth Century. What is distinctive regarding this specific painting is that it merges art with recreation. The theme is deep as a result of the many things that are happening within the background and the foreground. As an example, there are bodies with garments ripped of from the battle and a fallen horse at the front center of the painting; however, the background also contains many winged demons and murderers who ride in from some distant place. As for the forms within the painting, they are realistic, and never flat. The horses are spherical and appear to be very strong; the lion 's claws are immense and tear blood from the flesh of the person the lion attacks. The forms are well accomplished and reinforce the drama of the scene, which the artist meant to depict. All of the shapes are meant to be full to provide weight and seriousness to the piece. None of the forms are lightweight or ethereal, even the clouds are giant and full. Most of the figures have significant shadowing and strips of highlight to deepen the distinction between the dark and lightweight colors. With reference to the lines within the painting, every figure within the painting, including all of the ghosts that float in from heaven, are well carved. The lines are harsh ... The painting is non–realistic but speaks to a theme of politics and social order. Francisco de Goya, Executions on the Third of May, 1808, 1814–15 oil on canvas is a stylized depiction of life during the invasion of Spain by Napoleon. Like the Picasso, this piece also speaks to politics and social order. The line is the first noticeable difference in the two pieces. Picasso uses very straight lines and geometric shapes, giving a feeling of end or absolution, while Goya has a much more flowing line which lends to motion, and reality. Goya uses bright vibrant color to draw the viewers eye the man with guns being panted at him and then to the red blood spread around below him, while Picasso uses a gray scale and value allowing the mind to either fill in the color, or, as it does for me, really combine it all like an explosion, and parts and pieces of each. In the mid–1960's, Stella created a series of paintings, the "Protractor Series," which are prominent for their semi–circle shaped canvases that resemble a protractor. Despite Stella's popular motto, "what you see is what you see," Stella did, in fact, have an inspiration for his famous masterpiece. Frank Stella created beautiful, simple paintings on canvas often using polymer paint. As she delved into writing and started working on the book her mother passed away and she sank into a deep, grieving depression, getting little to nothing accomplished. Joanne thought she would give it another go but she failed to make progress, she fell in and out of love ending up with a failed marriage and a baby daughter which she had to raise alone. She was a single mother struggling to support herself and her daughter, Jessica. Joanne then decided that during her spare times she would continue writing her book, it was her only peace. After sending her manuscript and getting rejected 12 times by publishers, Joanne lost confidence in her book. Finally, a company agreed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Again, time only gives us one chance and we must use this chance wisely. We again should use this opportunity to cultivate an open mind. We should be flexible, adaptive and open to new experiences and find alternate ways of looking at things. If we choose to approach life in the same way day after day, as well as becoming bored and uninspired, we will reduce our intellectual aptitude. If, on the other hand, we seek new ways of doing and looking at things, we will expand our intellectual capability, find life way more exciting and broaden our experiences. By opening our mind to new experiences and opportunities we strengthen the belief in ourselves and it helps us live a happy and satisfying life. Time is precious, do not let it pass by. All the memories and knowledge we've gained throughout life is our own artwork, crafted by our very own hands. This artwork forms our masterpiece which was once just a blank canvas. • 67. The Marketing Model Canvas As An Analytical Framework Critique Our group has used the Business Model Canvas as an analytical framework to evaluate The Fun Center and generate recommendations to further improve the delivery of its value proposition. The Fun Center aims to provide children with an exciting and safe place to have fun by providing an array of arcade games, food and beverages, and event hosting. We made no changes to the general premise of the Business Plan, but rather we fine–tuned the aspects we felt lacked clarity. The gaps that we originally identified in the first version of the Business Plan were minor and posed little threat to the company's overall success. However, we felt that The Fun Center's lack of distinctiveness would limit the company in terms of potential growth. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Recommendation 1: Market to Children and Parents Our analysis of the Business Model Canvas has revealed a minor hole in the channels section. We feel as though the company's business plan failed to account for a very significant customer segment: kids. Currently, marketing is directed towards arcade enthusiasts and middle to upper class adults. The hope is that parents will be intrigued by the company's value and bring their children to the arcade. However, considering that the value proposition seeks to serve children ages 5–12 as a target customer segment, the Business Model Canvas would suggest that a channel should exist to directly connect The Fun Center's value to children. In addition to advertising to adults with traditional methods, we recommend that The Fun Center also market directly to children in order to improve reputation and garner more interest. For example, advertising The Fun Center on children's shows and radio stations will communicate to children in ways that are already familiar and comfortable to them. According to small business advice from Hearst newspapers, it would cost 200 to 1,500 dollar to commercially advertise The Fun Center on a local station, a small investment for a large long term benefit (Wagner, 2015). In in the same way they react to new toys and cereal, they will ask their parents to bring them to The Fun Center. Further, to partner with local elementary ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 69. Canvas Struggles At the beginning of sixth grade there are different struggles for everybody, my main struggle was technology. I didn't understand Powerschool, or TCSD Live, and most of all I did not understand Canvas. Canvas confused me a lot, in class I often got behind because I didn't know what the teacher was talking about. I figured Canvas would always be hard and I would never understand. In my fifth grade class, we never used computers, unless we were in computer class. I had been on Canvas once before sixth grade and didn't understand it in the least bit, I never thought I would need to use Canvas, (I was wrong.) I didn't know how to use Powerschool, because I never used it in fifth grade. Also in fifth grade we never typed on computers, it was a big deal if we did, and so I wasn't very good at typing either. Also in fifth grade I didn't have an email, so it was very confusing for the first part of sixth grade. In the beginning of sixth grade I was behind a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I had to understand that hardly anyone knew how to use Canvas. I got over feeling stupid when I realized that I wasn't the only one who didn't understand Canvas. Also I had to be patient with the teacher. And finally I realized the teacher knew that most of their students were struggling. Also if you are like me you are not going to like being behind or accepting the fact that you don't understand something, but trust me if you can just be patient with the teacher, you will get there and Canvas will become easier. This worked for me and I hope that this will work for you too. To be honest sixth grade will be hard at first. Some things you can do to make it easier for you are, try not to get panicked if you are behind, I know this is hard, but I know you can do it. Another thing that helps is to use your relationships with teachers and friends to help you, it's not hard to ask a friend to help you, they won't think you are stupid and neither will the ... Exodus exhibits the reality of human suffering as a result of war and oppression during the Hungarian Revolution. The historical relevance of this work dives into a deeper significance than its basic face value. The oppression and struggle for power signified in Exodus also translates into Figure 2. Both cultures, in their own time have faced their traditions and way of life being threatened. As Hungarian citizens are forced to leave their country, Ojibwa members were constantly threatened by European immigrants. The human experience is key in understanding and studying art. Besides the main styles and usage in appearance, the connection to a point in time and the influence of that time allows the audience to connect with the artist and the characteristics of the artwork. Audiences are able to connect past themes to present day issues, such as the difficulties facing many Syrian refugees and the numerous Native American women who have gone missing. The importance of home and culture is evident in both works despite their different purposes and artistic modes. Limits are explored and barriers of past, present are future are removed when audiences are able to interpret the work from any point in time and understand the significance of its visual and non–visual means. ...
