  sports	
  to	
  
which	
  the	
  target	
  audience	
  have	
  expressed	
  clear	
  interest,	
  but	
  at	
  a	
  lower	
  rate.	
  
	
  
These	
  16	
  to	
  20	
  year	
  old	
  men	
  are	
  mainly	
  seeking	
  tips	
  and	
  advice	
  on	
  how	
  to	
  become	
  or	
  
keep	
  on	
  being	
  fit,	
  to	
  be	
  able	
  to	
  carry	
  a	
  nice,	
  sculpted	
  figure.	
  Men

  group

  formers	
  or

  their

  university,	
  therefore	
  they

  be

Target Audience Profile

  • 1. TARGET  AUDIENCE  PROFILE   My  magazine  focuses  first  and  foremost  on  fitness  and  sports,  engaging  mainly  with   single  men  within  the  age  group  of  16  to  20,  and  has  its  focus  on  keeping  a  nice   sculpted  figure  and  music-­‐related  activities.  However  it  also  relates  to  some  sports  to   which  the  target  audience  have  expressed  clear  interest,  but  at  a  lower  rate.     These  16  to  20  year  old  men  are  mainly  seeking  tips  and  advice  on  how  to  become  or   keep  on  being  fit,  to  be  able  to  carry  a  nice,  sculpted  figure.  Men  in  this  age  group  are   either  6th  formers  or  in  their  first  years  of  university,  therefore  they  have  to  be  very   self-­‐confident,  brave  and  dedicated  to  keep  on  approaching  they  different  challenges   that  they  will  regularly  come  across,  mainly  in  the  academic  field,  but  also  when  it   comes  to  putting  in  practice  what  they  absorb  from  the  magazine.       They  are  young  adults,  and  so  their  physical  aspect  has  a  big  importance  to  them,  in   terms  of  how  they  will  look  to  other  people,  mainly  to  girls,  to  whom  they  start  to   develop  a  greater  attraction  than  earlier  on  in  their  lives.  They  will  want  to  make  the   best  of  their  figure  keeping  on  searching  for  new  ways  in  which  they  can  achieve  such   aim:  from  gyms  which  offer  the  best  and  most  attractive  facilities  for  the  exercises   they  want  to  focus  on,  to  accessories,  clothing,  and  any  type  of  hardware  to  improve   their  performance  and  help  them  achieve  results  in  the  most  efficient  way.  They  are  an   active  audience  in  this  sense  and  will  be  following  the  “Uses  and  Gratifications”  theory   (by  Blumler  and  Catz  (1974)  as  they  will  be  using  (mag  title)  to  be  informed.     However  the  (mag  title)  reader  is  not  short-­‐minded  and  focuses  exclusively  on  his  body   and  academic  duties.  He  is  more  than  keen  on  hanging  out  with  his  friends  and   enjoying  his  social  life  as  much  as  possible,  carrying  out  his  favourite  leisure  activities:   going  for  the  night  to  nice  bars  and  have  a  drink,  attending  concerts  of  his  favourite   bands  and  going  to  see  his  favourite  sport  live.     So  music  is  a  big  companion  to  these  16-­‐20  year  old  men,  both  in  their  free  time  and   during  their  work  out  tasks.  Electro,  dance  and  rap  come  top  in  the  genres  they  like  to   listen  to,  therefore  artists  like  David  Guetta,  Kelly  Rowland,  Sebastian  Ingrosso  or   Hardwell  will  dominate  their  Ipods,  which  they  always  carry  with  them.  Hence  why   (mag  title)  will  provide  them  with  relevant  music  related  activities  they  will  enjoy.     The  disposable  income  the  (mag  title)  reader  should  have  is  medium,  which  perfectly   matches  his  situation:  student.  The  accessories  needed  to  carry  out  the  sports  and   activities  featuring  inside  the  magazine  are  pretty  accessible,  but  yet  not  the  cheapest.   These  may  include:  sneakers,  t-­‐shirts,  shorts,  or  in  some  cases,  specific  material  for  a   certain  sport:  football  boots,  rugby  head  protector…     The  clothing  style  of  these  16-­‐20  year  old  men  can  take  a  wide  range  of  shapes,  since   there  can  be  a  large  variance  in  this  aspect  within  them;  we  can  have  stylish,   sophisticated,  elegant  and  posh  readers  who  like  fine  suits,  smart  shirts  and  nice  Italian   shoes,  at  the  same  time  as  we  have  more  of  a  simple,  tracksuit  lover,  hoodie-­‐like,  Nike  
  • 2. air-­‐max  one.  There  is  not  a  fixed  code  they  all  follow.  At  any  rate  they  all  want  to  keep   their  physical  aspect  to  the  highest  standard  in  their  own  way.     The  vast  majority  of  the  target  audience  will  aspire  to  the  ideal  the  magazine  portrays   and  use  it  as  a  form  of  escapism  from  their  daily  routines;  reading  about  the   celebrities  presented  and  how  they  got  to  where  they  are.  Moreover  the  (mag  title)   reader  is  a  qualified  one;  he  attends  a  gymnasium  or  do  work  out  every  2  days.   Therefore  he  is  interested  in  good  quality  and  relevant  information,  which  he  is  able  to   use  and  enjoy  relating  to  his  own  experience.     In  conclusion,  this  magazine  brings  together  fitness  and  sports;  along  with  some  highly   relevant  leisure  activities  in  the  field  of  music  to  fulfil  the  target  audience  wants  and   needs  providing  them  with  information,  entertainment  and  a  way  of  escapism.
