1. Lady Gaga research
When and how did Lady Gaga’s career begin?
Lady Gaga had wanted to focus on her musical career as she withdrew from school in the second semester of her sophomore year. Her had
dad agreed to pay her rent for a year, on condition that she enrolled to a school if she was unsuccessful with her music career. She had left
her entire family and had gotten the cheapest apartment she could find. She had settled in a small apartment on Rivington Street towards
the summer of 2005, Gaga had recorded a couple of songs with hip-hop singer ‘Grandmaster Melle Mel’ for an audio book accompanying
a childrens book. She had then began a band called the Stefani Germanotta Band with some friends in NYU. Gaga had worked with a
producer Rob Fusari as he sent his friends her songs to his friend Vincent Herbert and he was quick to sign her to his label. Gaga had also
struck a music publishing deal with Sony/ATV. From this she had been hired to write songs for Britney Spears, Fergie, and New Kids on the
Block and the Pussycat Dolls. At interscope Akon had recognised her vocal abilities and had convinced InterScope-Geffen-A&M Chairman
and CEO Jimmy lovine to form a joint deal by having her also sign with his own label Kon Live.
Who creates her outfits and tour concepts?
Lady Gaga has people make her clothes that she has designed through other popular designers such as Alexander McQueen who had
designed an outfit and many shoes for her video clip ‘Bad Romance’
How is this funded?
House of Gaga
Research and describe Lady Gaga’s fans
Lady Gaga’s fans are called ‘Little Monsters’ and she is known as the ‘Mother Monster’.
3. ‘Florence Welch’ is
used on this double
page magazine
spread. She is
wearing black
clothing which
would portray her
elegance.
However, it is also
slightly revealing
which would
demonstrate she is
quite ‘sexy’ and
‘attractive’
As the colours in the
background are pale
as the colour white
and grey are used, it
enhances the colour
of her hair which
then makes it eye
catching and one of
the first things
people see when
they look at this
page of the
magazine.
In the image Florence herself is also looking at the audience of this
magazine, therefore she is drawing them into reading the story aligned with it.
This immediately signifies that she is the current topic of this story and informs
the person that is looking at this that it is all about her.
The text used in this magazine
double page spread is delicate which
links to the idea that most women
are perceived this way. This font is
quite elegant and classic which
would maybe portray her personality
or inner feelings.
Behind her image and text there is
written in bold capital letters ‘USA’
which is quite significant as it takes
quite some space even though it is
behind her.
The colours mainly used on this
magazine are white, black and red.
As more of white is used in the
background it is quite subtle which
makes it easier to bring out the
‘wild’ and ‘crazy’ in her as her
clothing is very unique and different
which is quite striking to the
audience as it shows her as an
individual.
4. The key image on this double page
spread is of Alexandra Burke. From the
way in which she is standing we can
interpret the confidence she has
because of her posture and because of
the position of her arms. Also, she is
wearing revealing clothing which
shows she is comfortable with the way
she is.
She is looking towards the audience
in this image which conveys she is
wanting attention as her facial
expression is provocative which
suggests she wants to be seen as
appealing and attractive to the
reader.
The pink text on this double page
spread could portray innocence and
more of girly colour, therefore
women are more likely to be
reading this story.
Furthermore, as Alexandra Burke in
this story has just won the X-Factor
it could signify the idea that she is
now entering a new world going
from innocent to a more revealing
stage in her life which links with the
image that is used as she wears
more explicit clothes.
5. Lana Del Rey is used on this front cover, her
image is close up which portrays her
confidence, especially from her facial
expression as she seems quite comfortable as
to what she is doing.
As her name ‘Lana Del Rey’ is written in capital
and in a sleek font we can interpret her
elegance and her importance to this specific
story as her name is in capitals.
The colours in this photo and quite
soothing, faint and exquisite. This demonstrates
more of a calm, comfortable situation as the
reader isn’t shocked by too many
colours, therefore this is relaxed making the
audience feel relaxed with it. Furthermore, as
these colours present these connotations, we
can instantly interpret the sort of person she is.
This would signify that she is quite a moderate
and laid-back person. This would draw a reader
in to have more of an insight as to why she is
the way we see her.
We can assume that Lana Del Rey from this
photo is quite respectable as she isn’t sexually
objectified therefore we can derive that she
prefers showing closer pictures of her face. This
would also link with the idea that Lana Del Rey
cares about her appearance as she is wearing
make-up and we are just about slightly able to
see a bit of her hair which is most probably
done for this photograph.
6. Interview questions about our artist
How have you dealt with your rise to fame?
I honestly would say, it wasn’t that easy. It wasn’t handed to me as I would have liked it to be. Especially when things got hard I just kept going even though I
thought I couldn’t handle it anymore. Along the way, I’d lost a lot but I’d definitely say it was worth it. Looking at how I live now, I could have never imagined a
better life for myself but there’s always a part of everyone which says they want more and I want that. One thing I’ll never do is give up, especially after
everything I’ve given up to live the way I am living as no one but myself believed in me. Being famous isn’t all about the money or the attention, I’ve just always
seen my situation now as more of a passion that I never want to end in my life.
What’s your favourite track on your new album? Why?
My favourite track on my album I have to say is ‘Ride’ I loved making that music video it just felt so real, I just got caught up in my own little world and I didn’t
want to leave.
What or who inspires you in your life and your music?
I had grown up listening to a lot of Lana Del Rey and Lady Gaga. I’ve always been interested in different genres I’ve never been someone to just have a particular
genre and never listen to anything else. I love everything because every time I listen to the music, it’s the lyrics that I focus on as the lyrics are most important
for me when I write my own music.
7. Magazine interview
In this magazine interview Iggy Azalea is being interviewed and is asked about
her type of music and her style. It also talks about how she struggled to
become an artist and how she pursued her dream. This magazine interview
shows her determination in what she’s doing and where she had travelled to
do this. Iggy talks about a business she had started with her friend so that they
would make legal money where they had imported hair extensions and sold
them to the public. Iggy also states that she is living out of her suitcase as she
doesn’t have a house at the moment in this interview which automatically
indicates her courage and dedication to produce her own music. From this
interview we can interpret the type of person Iggy Azalea is, which is laid back
however very hard working. We can tell that she is laid back from the way she
speaks in the interview as its quite informal which would make the reader
more comfortable as it targets a certain audience of a younger generation as
the way they speak blends in with how she does. This would attract that
audience as they would then feel like they have the advantage to understand
her better than others would.
From the image of Iggy on the magazine interview we can see her confidence
in the way her arms are held up along with her face. As Iggy had set up the
business of importing hair extensions that ties in with the fact that she looks
like she cares a lot about her image as her hair is done along with her make up
and what she is wearing. We can infer that she is trying to stand out from this
image compared to other artists as she conveys her individuality for example as
she’s wearing glasses where some artists don’t but instead they look directly at
the audience this portrays how much she wants the success as she’s looing
upwards which could be a sign to show she wants to strive for more in her
career.
