This is to certify that Mr. Upendra Samarasingha Gunawardena was attached to Hemas
Manufacturing (Pvt) LTD from 3'd October 2003 to 30'h June 2OL2 and held many important
positions in Sales and Marketing during the period-
Mr. Gunawardena joined the company as an Area Sales Manager in year 2003 and was
promoted as a Senior Area Sales Manager in 2006 due to the progress his territory made. ln
2O07 he was prornoted again as a Regional Sales Manager with the responsibility of overlooking
two Regions. Due to the excellent results delivered he was promoted as Field Sales Manager to
supervise five out of the ten sales Regions in year 2008. ln the same year the company went for
a distribution resructuring project nationwide reducing 167 distributor network to 108 and
amalgamating two sales forces into one. Mr. Gunawardena gave leadership to this
transformation project. He handled this project exceptionally well to deliver on time and it
resulted greater operational efficiency and cost savings. These initiatives were highly recognized
throughout the group of companies and Mr. Gunawardena was nominated for the prestigious
"The Most Valuable Employee of the year- 2009" award. ln 2O1L he was picked to head the
island wide sales in the key position Sales Manager - General Trade; the prime channel of the
company that contributed almost 85% of the national sales. This highly demanding role required
him to managelgS distributors and 287 members in the sales team to achieve total company
Sales and Operational Plan.
Mr. Gunawardena has expertise in Sales Management, Sales Operations, Agency / Distributor
Management, Sales Administration, Channel Management, Trade Promotions and Strategy
Formulation in FMCG markets. Further, he performed an advisory role for Brand Teams of
Hemas FMCG including the Sri Lanka's market leader baby care brand Baby Cheramy.
I believe Mr. Gunawardena exhibits many of the qualities that are essential for a senior business
executive such as exceptional leadership traits, sound management judgment, innovative
thinking and positive aPProach.
