There is plenty of light
which is used to show it’s
the morning and that it’s
a happy mood. This high
key lighting shows it is a
light hearted coming of
age film comedy as
opposed to a horror.
This is the first shot of the movie.
It is a shot of the whole house and
sets the scene well as this is where
most of the film takes place. It is
important that the audience
knows where the action is taking
place and this is why this shot is
there.
The sound at this point is the
mother talking inside the house.
They have decided not to use a
voiceover as this does not suit
the vibe of the film.
This shot of the house implies that
the family is quite rich which plays a
part in the film. This opening shot is
also used to set the scene as this is
where a lot of the film takes place.
The audiences’ first impressions are
made from the opening shot so it is
important.
In the second shot, the camera focuses very
close to Ferris’ face, a close up. This is to
emphasis the strong look on his face and to
show he is ill. It’s important for the audience
to know that he is ill so that we understand
what happens in the film.
There is a light on his face so the
audience can see it and all of our
attention is on his face. The lighting
highlights his facial expressions.
The fact that the parents don’t realise that Ferris is
clearly faking it shows that they are quite gullible and
dumb. This gives away some of the narrative of the
film
The camera is placed like this so it
looks like it’s from the point of view
of Ferris, as he looks up at his
parents. This shows their dominance
and power over him as they are
looking down on him.
The parents are wearing smart clothing which
suggests they are rich and successful. These
props give them a lot of power and presence.
This only adds to the plot because it means
they would want him to do well at school, not
faking an illness.
There is a lot of light on their faces so
that the audience focuses on their
facial expressions and not the
background etc. It also suggests that it
is a light hearted film as there is high
key lighting. There is a very concerned
look on her face as she is worried abut
his illness.
This shot shows the whole
of his room. This gives the
audience an insight into
what he is like and
therefore what the film
might be like. It sets the
scene of the film and
where a lot of action might
take place.
There are posters on the wall which the
young audience would be able to relate
to. This would be a typical young persons
room of the time and implies that it’s a
coming of age film targeted at a young
audience. Most of the things would be
trendy at the time which would appeal to
the audience and get them interested in
the film.
Typography: the font of this dialogue
really expresses the style of the film as
it is a very relaxed and funky style. The
colour suggests the audience is young
and it is a comedy coming of age film
rather than a horror or more serious
film. This font would appeal to a young
audience and get them hooked to the
film.
