2. Introduction
When creating my media product I have to ensure that I attract and
address my audience which are females from teenagers to young
adults.
Addressing and attracting my audience is important in any film
opening, so to ensure I did I had to use the key features and make
sure that they were met.
3. Actors
One way to attract and address my audience is by using the right actors, which is why I chose to
use young and attractive male and female actors.
By using young actors I have allowed the audience to already feel connected to the film as they
are the same age etc. If I was to attract an older audience I would have picked older actors.
By using attractive actors it allows the audience to be attracted to the film more as it is a natural
thing for people to do and feel, as they are able to accept their roles if they feel comfortable with
their appearance.
4. Location/Set
The location that I used at the beginning of the film was at a school classroom, which for the
audience I have chosen to attract to watch my film is young adults to teenagers it allows them to
understand the characters more and feel in sync with them as they have that knowledge and
understanding of being at school and the experiences that come with it, especially the romance
that happens within school, such as the different groups that are within school, for instance the
“popular” group which is commonly used in most films. So by using this commonly used aspect
the audience are able to see and understand which attracts them to the characters depending
on where they see themselves and what their experiences are at school.
5. Genre
The genre that I used is romantic-comedy which is largely watched and enjoyed by females at
the ages of 15-25 which is my target audience.
By using this genre to attract my audience I have stuck to the stereotypical genre for this
audience.
I have modified the storyline to meet my own needs, as it usually follows the ‘boy meets girl’
story, as I have made it that the boy is in love with the popular girl and doesn’t get noticed etc.
which is usually in most films the opposite way round. I have done this so the audience can feel
sorry for the boy, which can attract my audience more than having the same story as they watch
how he wins her over.
6. Audience Expectations
I have attracted my audience by having the audiences expectations challenged by the boy
already in love with a girl that is out of his lead which is explained in the slide beforehand, as the
expectation of the audience is for it to be ‘boy meets girl’ which is challenged completely, as it
follows a different line.
However the expectations after the opening may be right, but this attracts the audience as they
will want to find out if they are right, or if he gets the girl or not.
