Research
so, in my research PowerPoint, most of what I put into that PowerPoint
relates a lot to what my final project has turned out, with both including the
Developers of the original game of Friday Night Funkin and the modded
version made by Nate Anim8, even the micky mouse research sort of comes
in this with its simplistic art style.
However, the one thing I included was about the Persona 5 dancing in star
light, didn’t really come into play but at least both my project and that game
come under rhythm games.
In my opinion, all this research when it comes together sort of makes my final
project with everything being based on both art style and rhythm games
And also, little extra sites were used in the making of the final project which I
used a Wiki about Friday night funkin mods to look at art styles and some
gameplay on YouTube.
Planning
The only bit of planning I needed was my mind map, story board and some
concept idea, which sure the other planning did help but it was more wasting
time like the mood board, it did help though when ever I needed a quick
reminding of my main idea or just to just have a look back at to change some
ideas.
The only weakness with this was that my project is very simple to know what
to do, so meaning I never needed to look back at my work because I knew
what I was doing. The one thing I could of done better was to look more into
deadlines of my course because I couldn’t do all of what I wanted to do in my
planning which would of given me enough time to make an starting animation
before the dialogue animation
Time Management
• At the start I was doing well for time management but that changed
around near the end of the project after I realised that I didn’t have
enough time to do the starting animation. But thankfully that’s the only
thing that is missing within this project because everything else was made
in time.
• If I were given a lot more time, then I would have had the starting
animation and MAYBE even an intro for the game
• This is the menu for where
in the game Friday Night
Funkin, you select the week
you want to play that brings
you into gameplay (they are
called weeks because the
main character is going on
an adventure to be with his
girlfriend on a Friday night)
no way im
with daddy
dearest
that’s his
ame don’t
ook at me
weird)
Technical Qualities
I never made a gif of my
character doing his
animation but it's sort
of based on the guy
with the red shirt
the eye thing is a
reference to my
other project
(the 8-bit
animation I did)
These are all the sort of references
that show some resemblances to my
project, there is also voice lines but
I'm sure you can get the idea of that
(only saying that cause it will be a bit
tricky to get the voice line sound
effects
See now, I know the text boxes
shown are all square bit I
wanted more of a bubble text
kind of dialogue box because I
liked that sort of style more
(and I didn’t really think about
square text boxes as well)
Me with longer hair
because I didn’t get it cut
for a REALLY long while
(3 months probably)
No way is that
the real
Shaggy?
Like. Totally
man.
Just so this don’t
look so
confusing, the
guy in the green
shirt is also a
dialogue icon
(aka the
character behind
the dialogue box)
but its just
showing the full
sprite of the
character instead
of him behind the
dialogue
Aesthetic Qualities
I personally really enjoyed doing this personal project and I think it looks amazing for my first time doing anything
like this. The best part is the animation part (not the part with dialogue) because that is the most important part
of the project due to both the original Friday night funkin and the modded versions also have an animation that
shows the character doing an idle animation
However as good as it is, there is some things I would improve on and that being the characters in the
background. Hayden was by far looks the most detailed and so does everyone but jack. There isn’t anything wrong
with his look but more his posture, make the main character have my style and possibly make
the interaction longer with an extra intro.
my strengths with this project would have been the art style, animation and video
editing but my one weakness would be the
uploading part which has been giving me and
my helpers a lot of trouble with either it being the
computer's fault or just a slight mistake with
uploading it
Audience Appeal
Well, when it came to making the animation, I had my idea stuck in my head and
wanted to do what I wanted to make, so there were some thing I didn’t take to
consideration with my audience like the question about the area being somewhere
fantasy instead of inside of college (which in all honestly, would have had a lazier
background). Ill post some images of the audiences that went along with the project
The only reason to why I didn’t pick some of the ideas that the audience wanted was
because I really wanted to do my plan and it was more just asking about certain
things that could have been good ideas
But I know I at least pleased the audience with certain things that I did add from
their request such as background music, more than 2 characters and a good use of
bright colours
Peer
Feedback
Feedback 1
• What did you like about the product?
– What I like about this product is the voices when the
characters speak, the designs in the background, the
square boxes to see when the character is speaking, a
lot of detail with the characters and the background
design. I also loved the background music.
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
– What you could do next time is to add colour to the
arrows so then it looks as if you're playing the
game, overall, I thought I liked this product.
Feedback 2
• What did you like about the product?
– I think that it looks really good, and I like it when
everyone moves at the same time in a rhythm and the
sounds worked well
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
– The improvements that you could have made are:
changed the background that has more colour to it
Feedback 3
• What did you like about the product?
• There is a really good use of audio in the
animation. It really helps bring the whole thing
together and give the characters personality.
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
• I would have liked to have seen the text carry on
with the incremental appearance that it starts
with, but I realise that there were time
constraints.
Peer Feedback Summary
• What do you agree with from your peer
feedback? I agree with the nice complements
about my art and the good work of audio :)
• What do you disagree with from your peer
feedback? The only thing ill disagree on is
what Sam said about colour on arrows
because that would have taken too long (I'll
explain more on the next slide)
Peer Feedback Summary
In all honestly, all the feedback that I got from my 3 friends were all good and there wasn’t any big improvements I needed to make
With Chris saying "I would have liked to have seen the text carry on with the incremental appearance that it starts with" I would have
done this but due to time and how annoying that would have been to see so many layers with just text on them would have been a dread
(and hiding them would have also taken ages to do)
And, what Sam said, "What you could do next time is to add colour to the arrows so then it looks as if you're playing the game". So, in the
game this is a thing that coloured arrows appear, and the player is needing to press the arrows with using your keyboard, but the problem
was that when you press the key to press the arrow, the character dose an animation of the direction depending on which one you
pressed
And that’s the big problem, it would have taken n way too long to make just in college, which at the time I didn’t know that Photopea
supports Photoshop so I could have spent time to make sprite animations, but I didn’t have enough time.
This is where the
arrows must go before
they are pressed
These are the arrows
that come towards
the colourless arrows
that you have to time
to press them (or
follow the Rythm of
the son and press it
when it sounds right
And this is used for when you need
to hold down the arrow
