Poetry is a language used most skillfully and there are
more regular construction in poetry than irregular
forms.

 Poetry is musical and metrical form of
Language.
 It is intimately weaven with nature and
life and it is more to the ear and heart than to eye.
 AS Wordsworth says “ Poetry is a
spontaneous overflow of
powerful emotions”.

O To enable students to appreciate the
beauty, Rhyme and style of the poem.
O To develop the taste for Poetry reading
and writing.
O To enable the students to enjoy recitation
in individual and chorus.

experiences of the pupils.
3. Facilitation: Poetry facilitates the natural
aptitude for poetry in pupils.
4. Rhythm: Poetry enables students to learn
speech rhythm through the rhythm of poetry.

5. Cathartic : Poetry has cathartic value because it
helps in expression and training of emotions.
6. Pleasing: Poetry always imparts enjoyment and
pleasure to students.
7. Varieties: Poetry always imparts enjoyment and

8. Pattern teaching: Poetry teaches pattern
sentences because of repetition of certain patterns
in a poem.

To make the students understand the
poem, the teacher presents the gist of
the poem.
Model Reading:
The teacher recites the poem
while the students listen to him
carefully.

 Pronunciation Drill:
 The teacher should conduct the
pronunciation drill of the difficult words.
 Here is an example for a teacher
giving the pronunciation drill for his
students.

 The teacher should do the model
reading for the another time and
teach the poem
 The meaning of the difficult words
and phrases should be explained
by the teacher.
 He can also bring the beauty of
