2. Scope of Pharmacognosy.
1. Herbs as pharmaceutical Aid in Herbal industries.
• Pharmaceutical aids are those substances which ha very less or almost no therapeutic
property but are used for flavouring, colouring or to increase the bulk.
• There are many herbal and food industries which uses volatile oil derived from plants for
flavouring purpose .
• E.g. :- Rose oil , Mentha oil.

3. 2.Quality control of drug.
• Now when a crude drug is synthesized into its newest form or converted into herbal drug
for use on large scale, it is needed that it should give more benefits and less side effects.
• With this approach we make herbal drugs more safe and effective by minimizing toxicity,
dug interaction and contraindications.
• E.g :- Heavy metal detection, chromatography, microcopy etc.

4. 3. Biogenetic/Biosynthetic pathway investigation.
• Biogenesis means generation or production of chemical constituents inside the plant
parts. With the help pathway investigation we know how the plants make their chemical
constituents.

• This is the another approach of Pharmacognosy were we study about the methods by
which we can increase the yield of bioactive moleules /compound in plants.
• For this we use genetic modification technique and plant tissue culture.

• Now with spectroscopic technique we can draw the structure of any compound present
naturally in plants,.
• with the known structure we study about their specific activity, Means a compound
having structure like :- Benzene will have only a specific activity associated with it.
• This help us in making of new dug and using them for specific therapeutic efficacy.
