Reflection:
4. Pre-production:
I wanted to do some colour grading experiments to see what colour designs and pallets I
wanted to use. I experimented with the different temperatures of colours to see which one
suited the style of the video the best. I made the temperature warmer to start with however
the colour felt too warm and took away the grittiness from the workout. I then tried colder
and that added a darker feel to the video however I did not want to go too low as it would
then look too dark and have a more depressing feel. I decided on a 1.1 temperature which is
slightly warmer. I balanced this out with a -5.3 tint to give the initial look a slightly warmer
feel. To balance out the tone, and make the colour look more natural, I put the exposure up
the contrast up, highlights down, shadows down whites up and blacks up very slightly. This
balanced the full colour grade out and made it look more professional. I will be using some
of the skills that I have learned in this experiment as it helped to pick up the flat footage and
bring it to life.
6. Pre-production:
I did some experiments on making a first experiment draft for a logo. This experiment
gave me some basic ideas for making a logo. For example I was able to learn about
layering and the importance of making layers and building your logo up by using them.
When I used a few layers the logo looked flat and boring. When I make my final logo want
to add layers of shape around the whole logo so that it doesn’t look flat and it has a more
professional look. I experimented with some different fonts as well and in the end I went
with a simple serif font. I chose this font because I thought that it was simple but effective
as it didn’t overcomplicate the logo and was very direct to the audience. Overall this
experiment went well and helped me visualise what my final product could be.
8. Contingency Planning
Potential Issue Solution
Equipment batteries running out. Always have fully charged spare batteries.
SD card corruption or not saving. Check that the footage is saving properly and
have a backup SD card.
Actors not showing up or becoming ill. Have a backup day for shooting.
Locations might be inescapable on the day. Have a backup day for shooting or a backup
location.
It may be bad weather on the day of shooting. Have a backup day for shooting.
Time management. Plan for everything and have a backup plans so I
don’t get behind.
9. Health and Safety
Potential Issue How will the issue be
avoided?
Tripping over equipment wires from cameras
and lighting etc.
Keep the set tidy and tape wires down on the
floor.
Electrical equipment becoming faulty and
causing accidents.
Make sure all equipment is PAT tested.
Heavy lifting or injuring yourself to heavy
lifting.
Using a trolly to carry equipment. Taking
multiple people to help carry equipment.
Getting injured using gym equipment. The person doing the exercises has to be
experienced and doing them properly. All
equipment should be put away properly after
use.
COVID 19 restrictions. Wearing PPE, social distancing, washing/
sanitising hands and testing before shooting.
COVID 19 positive tests. Contact tracing, symptom response plan,
communication,
11. Location Reece
Potential locations
description.
Photograph of
location.
Precise Google map
image of location.
Suitable location
choice (genre,
narrative, research
undertaken.)
Inside of a private gym with
various gym equipment. Will be
used for shooting a workout
sequence.
This is a suitable location choice
for my product as it follows my
research on audience, social
status, genre and narrative. For
example the location is secluded
and private which entices the
primary audience of personal
training as they are drawn to a
private gym that can show
wealth.
Outdoor rural secluded track
near the first location. Will be
used for shooting a running
sequence.
Middle of the red outline shows
the route that the run will take
place. Different shots in the
sequence are marked in yellow.
This location is a suitable choice
as it expands the location
choices well. I learned from my
research that audiences from
this genre, and also audience in
general, like lots of different
locations and a variety of
different activities in these
locations to keep them
entertained and also show the
versatility of the product.
12. Style sheet fonts
I always wanted to keep the fonts of my products very simple and direct so that the
audience understood what the product was and what it gave straight away. I didn’t
want to overcomplicate the products by using any unique or deluxe fonts that could
make the product seem outside of the target audiences social class or range. I thought
that the best fonts to use where the very basic serif and sans serif. They are both
simple but do however still have differences. For example the serif font has more
curves on the end of the letters which could connotate more luxury and austerity. It
does this whilst also keeping the font very neutral as the body is still very basic. I will
be using more sans serif to serif font as the sans serif font can target the audience
more directly.
13. Style sheet colours
After looking at different colour wheels and colour schemes and experimenting with
colour grading I have decided on a analogous colour scheme. I have chosen this colour
scheme as it uses three colours that work together well and look aesthetically pleasing
to the audience. This colour scheme also worked well as it gives a feel of hard work
and fatigue but the green can balance it out to give it a more powerful and upbeat
feel. I will be using this colour scheme in my products colour grading, costume and
logo.
