The document discusses the author's experience completing a filmmaking task. Some of the key things the author learned include how to use professional camera and tripod equipment, the importance of teamwork, and skills like camera operation, editing, and following shot types and rules. The author reflects that their group struggled with cooperation, which impacted the final product. Overall, it was a valuable learning experience about the filmmaking process, but the author hopes to improve their skills and work with a stronger team in the future.
2. Throughout this task, I have learnt many things. One of which
is the use of a camera and the tripod. Beforehand, I had
never had access to such things of high quality, so much
so, I didn’t even realise that some tripods need specific
plates attached to them for the camera to fit on.
It was great to understand and utilise the tripod in this task
mainly, but also the use of the camera aswell. Having never
used one professionally before, it was an eye opener to see
the things that were useful to do, such as knowing when to
zoom.
3. It was more I learned than just the equipment itself. The
teamwork needed is more than what I anticipated. If the team
cannot cooperate, then there may be no point trying. A good
team needs to work together, and be able to organise times
to record also. It was something that was quite unsuccessful
in our group, but we made it in the end.
4. I feel like I could have done better, but I guess some things
went well. We managed to adapt a plan overtime for starters.
We didn’t choose one plan and made sure that it was the only
thing we could do, we adapted the plot, changed roles when
needed and worked to each others strengths. Even if
something went a bit wrong, it could be changed to make it
work.
There was also the editing. While I know it could be better, I
was pleased with the result. It was my first time ever editing
and using Premier Pro, so for what I did with my first try I was
pleased.
Finally, the brief of the task was met. Performing match-on-action,
using a shot/reverse shot while following the 180
degree rule.
6. As I touched on briefly, this wasn’t something I was the most
proud of. The final piece felt unfinished, and needed more
editing or extra footage. I would have spent more time trying
to get footage to have extra to work with while editing,
however due to time restraints within the group we weren’t
able to acquire the footage needed.
Another thing is the group. I know good teamwork was needed
and unfortunately wasn’t able to get it with those I worked
with. Often arguing, there was little productivity,
procrastination seen often and no cooperation between the
three of us. It was a wonder we got the footage we needed.
Also with their lack of ,‘on-camera skills’, there was more
footage of outtakes than there was real footage. I understand
it was my first time also, but the lack of professionalism was
disappointing.
7. Even though we met the brief, I felt as if the shot/reverse shot
needed improving. It was too close to the line for the 180
degree rule, and felt as if the characters weren’t actually
talking to each other.
Finally, I wished to edit further. While the simple cuts and
transitions were adequate, I had hoped to add additional
effects to the piece, such as sound and colour changes or
amplifiers. There is so much to the world of editing, and I
want to explore that further; especially for the main task.
8. I asked another group their opinion of the piece and this is the
feedback.
9. I ended up doing a bit of everything overall, getting to take the
establishing shot, while performing the lead role and doing
most of the editing. I worked well enough with the resources I
had to make this piece, and was available at anytime I was
needed.
I have started to learn so many skills, and wish to learn more.
From the camera itself, to the footage gained from it, to the
editing of the acquired footage. I have, however, learnt that
nothing can be done without the proper team.
I worked my role effectively, and put as much time as I had into
this piece. I worked professionally on set, as well as off. I am
glad that this was the preliminary, though, as there is so
much for me to learn.
